im a jobbing deerstalker and have been looking for an allrounder for ages.did my research and mine arrived today.i shot two munties this aft gralloched them out and took head and legs off didnt miss a beat. fallkniven recomend their own stone to sharpen the knife and their web site currently has some factory seconds that are superb stones great vid love the channel cheers scout 1
Enjoyed the review very much...thanks for taking the time. I have a becker bk11 and a coldsteel pocket bushman that I use for smaller tasks. For bigger I like the kabar 7" utility and for heavy jobs the Ontario SP10 Marine Raider. Love watching your all's vids and learning from you. :)
I love these knives. The F1 is in my top 5 list. The rubberised handle also helps in the first cut that you did with it resting against your knee and also works as a shock obsorber when battoning. Good review guys. 5*
Hi, its great to get back on line. A very good review. It dates back a while and since this was first aired, there’s been many more knifes and custom knife makers enter the field. That said, it would seem this knife is very good and has many loyal users. Its great to read about six years use and still going. I would be hoping to get many more years than that, if possible. I have one question, the F1 looks brilliant, but I am also interested to find out if any one has used the Northern Lights, NL5L Idum. This knife also appeals to me.
@NaturalBushcraft Takefu doesn't export and of their VG or SG series steels; something to do with Japanese governmental regulations. Any blade that is made of VG-10 has to be produced in Japan.
Good review! I have been using my F1 for about 6 years now for winter and summer trips in the bush, and I am very happy with it. For feather sticks it takes some practice to develop the muscle memory to control the convex edge, but once you get it, you can make multiple curl feathers like Mors says are the best curls. Its a beast for battoning, no worries. This knife can baton cross grain through wood with ease, just as you showed. It is a true survival knife. I did work it on water stones to make a micro bevel, for ease of touching up in the field with a stone. The micro bevel also works well for stropping. I find that regular stropping with compound, or very fine wet-dry sandpaper followed by compound on leather, finished on a leather belt, keeps the edge very sharp, and its rare that I actually need to "sharpen" the edge. Its light enough to carry with pleasure.
The conclusions are correct. Only the convex grind is bit more difficult to sharpen. Feathersticks are indeed slightly more difficult to make with this knife. But overall I would give this knive an 9 out of 10.
Out of my arsenal of knives I have two "go to" blades. The first being my F1 and the second being a handmade knife in 01 tool steel carbon. I almost always take the carbon blade with me. The F1's convex bevel is lacking compared to a scandi grind and I'll take carbon steel over stainless any day for many different reasons but mostly for it's ability to strike a spark off of flint and other rocks.
@NaturalBushcraft All the Fällkniven knives are made in Japan after a spat with Linder Cutlery in Germany (who initially manufactured the F1) though after they ripped of the design and sold their own (allegedly w. even the same lettering on the boxes) the cooperation was cut off and they went with the next best company who could make the powder steel to specifications.
@scargill8 You dont have to clean it every time you put it in your sheath, just at the end of the day when you put it away at home. If your out in the woods for multiple days its not a bad idea just to wash it off. You dont need to do an fancy cleaning, but if you have a 100 dollar knife you want it to last.
@poseidon2267, what are you going to use it for. For general purpose I'd recommend the F1 (more control, and versatility) but if you need the extra length go for the A1 (easier to baton, better for chopping).
Hi! I prepare to buy really good survival knife and i want to ask you about this F1 and Ontario TAK-1. How long F1 is still sharp and its hard to sharpen it? What about size, does it make any problems in harder tasks like bigger wood or something? It is good to make food? what knife should i take TAK-1 or F1? maybe u can make review of Ontario TAK? BTW i love ur videos-they are maked profesionally!
Nice review .. but I wish it had been the standard knife in swedish army .. we "only" get Mora knifes (not bad but not as good either). It's said to be used in the airforce, and that I can't say anything about. But the pricetag is way to high per knife for the Swedish army to use it as standard knife.
have to agree good knife, I've had one for about six months, a little brother to my A1 for smaller jobs but on a different topic, I like your hat, what's the make? is it leather? where from? I want one
Absolutely .. I would be glad if I had a Mora knife in the woods. I take that any day in front of knifes twice or even five times the cost. Mora sells quality in quantity .. other brands try to market themselves as quality by price .. which is like saying "I'm swedish .. therefore I can play tennis " =)
Based on your experience this Fallkniven F1 is a really good knife as they say? I'm looking for a sturdy knife and not great it can last for very very time, I want a great product, you can do in my case this?
Great honest review for the F1,,,for a ton it can make the woodlore look expensive at £280 and with that thermorun handle it does look very resilient,,,thanks for the video ..if you fancy a laugh at my knifemaking efforts checkout one of my recent uploads..my blades look like a troll's made it on a bad day ha ha !! cheers guys!!
I enjoy the wilderness, I also induce survival situation, God forbid a real emergency survival situation, my practice would come in handy, I think Fallkniven knives rock, althoughy preference is the A-1 as my survival knife, although I enjoy other makers, Busse, Bark River, etc. F-1 makes a good size for bushcrafting, in survival I find a bit larger blade size, is the way to go for me.
hi I have this knife abd think is a goog survival knive. For bushcraft I don´t like: Too thick blade=to thick convex grind Too squary handle=unconfortable to make feathersticks becouse dig in my palm Too grip handle=blisters. bye
@flatout1001 You don't have the slightest idea what you're talking about. VG-10 is produced by Takefu Special Steel Co. of Echizen City, Japan, and due to Japanese export laws, any blade made of VG-10 must be produced in Japan. And no, there is no folding whatsoever with the f-1. 2 pieces of softer stainless (probably 420 series or SUS) are merely welded/laminated to a piece of VG-10. Stop spreading misinformation.

Informative and helpful review. Thanks for posting!
Great product review! Thanks!! I'd love to see you sharpen that knife.

Yours is the first sub I've given in a while. This good ol' Iowa boy loves the U.K.

Your reviews are fantastic :) you should have your own television show!
Another excellent video chaps! Well done!
my fav and most trusted bushcraft knife, but i read the hard core might chip tho
Great review! Thanks, I love this knife!

My Favorite Blade. Nice video fellas!
That handle looks almost identical to the Benchmade Rant series.
Your reviews are fantastic :)

I wish they made a flat or scandi grind version, too. Being 'fatter', a convex edge is better at splitting, but not as good for slicing.
i love this kind of review! perfect
CONGRATULATIONS your vidéo is really great !!!!!
Is it worth to buy F1 in 3G steel instead of the VG10 laminated steel? Have you had a opportunity to compare these two steels made by Fallkniven?
have to agree good knife, I've had one for about six months, a little brother to my A1 for smaller jobs but on a different topic, I like your hat, what's the make? is it leather? where from? I want one
Good Job :D , i owne this knife and im very happy whit it

Michele Trekkning I see you asking the same exact question in every Fällkniven video.....
yeat ,, thats true itis a really good survival knife,
fredde
you should try another great swedish knfe. the eka nordic w11. its my fav knife
nice knife
@NaturalBushcraft the steel is only found in sweeden then it is sent to japan to be folded like a sam sword
@scargill8 you clean the knife before it goes in the sheath. pretty obvious really
Fun info as well, Fällkniven means ''(the) folding knife'' :)
Is the knife very resistant to rust?
great channel i subbed.
how is this knife for someone with larger hands?
Just remeber ALL Fallkniven knives are made in Japan, NOT Sweden. Do the rearch like I did. Its like finding out your VOLVO is really a Nissan.
where can i buy this knife? i live in the usa.
whats convex edge?

@flatout1001 well nothing wrong with that. The japanese make very good knives.
like yr nissan engine is actually a renault.......
the f1 or the a1?
@robin6512 i no ive got one with my own oak handle
Where the hell do I get that jacket?
Hey u guys, (anyone who commented on this vid) should I get: Becker bk2, esee rc5, or fallkniven f1? Thanks a lot! ~wolf
Bk2 is your best bet
Official survival knife of the Swedish airforce
how much in american dollars is it?
Get this, its ''Fell-kniv-en'' not ''Falniven'' ^^ The K is not silent!
Great vid though! Again, proud Swede! ;)
hi I have this knife abd think is a goog survival knive.
For bushcraft I don´t like:
Too thick blade=to thick convex grind
Too squary handle=unconfortable to make feathersticks becouse dig in my palm
Too grip handle=blisters.
bye
Easy choice .. =)
Fällkniven F1 will stay with you until you retire.
Swedish Army?
@NaturalBushcraft phone fallkniven up and thay will tell you
£120+ = not for the week end bushman just for the pro or the knife tart
umad? i was just saying so he knows... stop getting your knickers in a twist rofl

Knee is pronouced nee, not K-nee so the way u said it there makes the K silent
For $300 you can buy a lot of knife... Thing better be superb!
Where are you buying it that it's $300? lol it's about 130 on amazon
