    Guys I have been watching a lot of youtubers (gamers, gear reviewers, bushcrafters) over the last 3 years and just recently about 4 months ago I found you guys and I must say you guys are my absolute favourite. If I see a positive knife review from you guys, I trust my life with that knife. As a bushcrafter my self in Canada thanks for this review and I will be picking up this knife as my go to bushcraft knife and a lot of other uses. Great video! Keep up the amazing work guys it really pays off.

    Don't forget to strop your F1d (or any other knives) before use! I noticed a very small chip after going through about 6 cardboard boxes. Supposedly stroping the edge before use will help limit minor chips from forming.

    Say Heah Micky and Marty. Yeah, Maybe when I get around to it, They might have the A-1 and H-1 in the Laminated CoS Steel. For now, I'm enjoying my old school A-1 and the H-1 which right now are my Fav. wet weather go to's. Infact I just got a fantastic deal on a Fox Bushcraft Parang. It's a little different then my first Fix Bushcraft Parang. It's shows that its a week longer blade and the jumping is on the whole spine. But other than that its the same as my other Fox Bushcraft Parang. Infact I'm specifically getting the Mora Kansbol and Ekdris to team it to my new Bushcraft Parang, I think in green it will make a lovely piece of kit. Then if they make the A-1 and the H-1 in the new steel, I'll consider it because I really still like my old school Fallkniven knives I have now. Ofciurce in a carbon blade, My go to still is my Modde Rodent 6 which I had thinned down and the top guard taken off. Infact its one of my Fav's 6" blades and it L@@Ks like a Ratmandu on steroids. Assbadsarie at its best. anyhow I Piggyback it with my Rodent 3. oral Beans, Yeah, I like that new steel on your review. Thanx You, M&M.,,.

    I wish I knew how you guys make videos like this, the editing, the music, the slow mo, it's pretty cool. Feel free to make a vid about it lol.
    But on to my main question / request, can you make a waterstone convex sharpening video? If you do, please, make it so we can clearly see your hand movements in slow mo, what exactly you do with your hand and with the blade. Thanks guys and you guys make me wish I had a spot like yours (and a friend lol) to do bushcraft, it's awesome. Cheers and bonjour du Québec :)

    Great video brothers thanks for sharing. I have the F1 Pro and love CoS steel as well. How about a video comparing the Gunny in 3V against the F1DZ or F1 Pro? That would be a good one to see. Cheers bros.

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 років тому +3

      Hey Christian, It's kind of a awkward comparison I think. Both knives and both steels are awesome but shine on different parts. 3V has amazing edge retention and toughness but is kinda hard to sharpen and can rust. The gunny knife has perfect handle geometry but needs a bit of care once in a while (also depending on which material you choose). The F1 is a completely care-free knife that needs no looking after what so ever. The CoS is a very balanced steel that takes an amazingly sharp edge, holds a very decent edge but is still extremely easy to sharpen for it's hardness (60-61HRC). It's like comparing a delicious fish with a delicious piece of meat. Both are excellent in their own way.

    • @LetoAt77
      @LetoAt77 8 років тому +1

      I agree on those points. I run my A2 and 3V knives in kydex and resheath them dry and have no issues with rust. For survival purposes I prefer A2 as it can be honed on a leather belt without compound in a pinch. 3V is the obvious choice with a field strop and for processsing game as it handles accidental bone contact better than A2 without chipping in my experience. I will say CoS is an impressive very nice SS and BRKT & Fallkniven are the two best production knives on the market IMO.

    Ok, you guys have done it. You have this old fart wanting higher priced quality knives. I have been using knives for years with cheap steels like what you find in an Old Timer Sharpfinger and different Schrades with 1095. My first fix blade knife is a Old Timer Sharpfinger that I got almost 40 years ago and has field dressed squirrels, rabbits, deer, and has skinned muskrats, mink, raccoons, and coyotes. I have used it for batoning and feathersticking. I have never broken a knife and have been satisfied with what I have had. I even own a couple Mora knives (Companion and Companion HD) I usually don't baton the larger stuff that you guys show because I usually go to a hatchet for larger things. Thanks to you guys I am wondering what I am missing out on in a top notch knife. I am longing for a Bark River or a Fallkniven. Can you recommend any knives in the $75.00 to $100.00 U.S.? Thanks to youtube and your channel for making me long for something better!!!! LOL!

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  7 років тому +1

      +Ben Schildgen that's a pretty tough price range. The Mora garberg offers a very robust option with a bit better stele than the regular models. I do think the geometry isn't best for hunting though. Perhaps a patriot manly in cpm154 would be a nice option. It's a very simple design but one of the cheapest for that steel

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 років тому

      hey Chris, that's almost an impossible choice for us haha. Both brands have their own qualities. If I had to choose or die I think I'd choose bark river because you have so many ways to semi-customise your blade. As for the model I think it would be the gunny scandi in CPM-3V. I don't like A2 at all from bark river.

    • @chrisxx012
      @chrisxx012 8 років тому

      Dutch Bushcraft Knives the gunny is more of a hunting knife then Bushcraft?

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 років тому

      it's pretty much best of both worlds. It's an awesome bushcrafting knife. Maybe not the best survival knife because it lags in size. For hunting it's very decent. The handle geometry however leans more towards bushcraft then hunting.

  • @bmo5565
    @bmo5565 8 років тому +1

    hey DBK, great video as always! I had a question.
    Given the choice to have one of the two for a bushcraft/survival knife, would you choose the new F1D, or the original S1 in VG-10?

    • @truthseek3017
      @truthseek3017 8 років тому

      bmo5565 I'm wondering this too! :)

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 років тому

      As a one knife survival knife I would personally choose the S1 over the F1D because of it's size. The extra length of the S1 makes it more versatile. If not for survival I would pick the F1D because I prefer the smaller sized knives for my personal use and just love the CoS.

    • @bmo5565

      Hey, thanks a lot! reprofiling took about 30-40 minutes on waterstones.

    How does the F1 / COS steel compare to the Gunny in v3? Eventually I'd like to own both, but I'm having a hard time finding the Gunny scandi. You guys are making some really great videos.

      Thanks a lot Don!
      CoS is a completely different steel from 3V. CoS is a very well balanced steel that takes an amazing edge. it's easier to sharpen but won't hold it's edge as long as CPM-3v. CoS is also a stainless steel where 3V can rust

      Dutch Bushcraft Knives, thank you for the reply. I'm going to purchase the F1D. Hopefully someday I will find a Gunny Scandi in 3V. One can never have too many knives. Take care and thanks again!

    Do you guys think the F1D would survive the tip test that broke the F1? Also since I'm new to bushcraft and knife sharpening is is it better to start with the F1 to learn those things or is it worth it to just get the F1D now? Thanks guys, really love your videos!

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  7 років тому

      +tvuvx CoS is a lot better so I think it would survive! Both the f1 and f1d are great as long as you use them for what they were designed for :). The f1d is of course better

    How can I check if my f1d is cos steel? I find my f1d performs more toward to vg10 in the edge holding. I saw a review that bark river messed up the blade steel with wrong steel mark on the blade on youtube. BTW I was sold by you guys to get my f1d, great works!

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  6 років тому

      Mm I'm not sure! In terms of edge retention cos should be a bit better not a world of difference though. In terms of toughness and how easy it gets crazy sharp cos should excell

    I saw this on KAT recently too, lol. Looks awesome, but not sure I want to spend nearly 100 bucks more on it than the Lionsteel M4 I was originally going to get..
    Any chance you guys will make a sharpening tutorial? I'm currently wondering whether I should get a sharpening system (Edge Pro) or a set of stones to freehand..

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 років тому

      I would always recommend stones for free hand sharpening. It might be harder to learn but it's much more versatile. Sharpening video is still planned for early 2017.

    Subbed! What camera do you guys use? Especially for the slow motion stuff. Great work!

      Hey Tobias, thanks a lot! For the main shots we use a Canon 700D (in this video a 50mm 1.8 Lens) for the slow motion shots we use a sony rx100 iv that can shoot up to 1000fps.

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 років тому

      Hey Tobias, thanks! I don't know the steel to be honest. We don't really use cold steel knives. I don't like how they present themselves haha.

      thx for answering. the videos are just fun to watch haha but when it comes to edge retention etc. the tests are garbage. but you should take a look at the master hunter or srk in 3v, awesome knives!

      I've been wanting to compare the SRK in 3V to the fallkniven a1 for quite a while. Still planning on doing it!

    Hello DBK, great video again. I have question for you. I recently buy f1d with Lamcos steel. I use it like once, make fire, some feathersticks and black coating on the knive is gone. (like 3 mm on the edge) Is it normal? Because on my BK2 coating is still holding and was used like 100 times.

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  7 років тому

      +Jan Jeřábek I think the biggest reason is that the f1d is convex and the bk2 has a secondary bevel. The secondary bevel pushed the cutting material away from the coating. Luckily the f1d doesn't need a coating to prevent it from rusting
