imma be honest you really need both
but you MUST at least start with hiragana

Hiragana really does only take a few weeks of dedication to learn. I was surprised how quickly I picked it up.
I just used flashcards, in groups of 5 or 10 characters and 15 with the h-, b-, and p- pronounced characters. With the 10 characters just being 5 characters with dakuten. Example: か (ka) and が (ga). Then I'd practice writing all the characters I practiced flashcards in a notebook for a whole line, saying the sound of the character aloud.
And once you have hiragana down, katakana isn't as bad since you already know the Japanese phonics. Except a little bit of negative learning as there are characters that look close to each other but are different sounds. Like し (shi) and レ (re).

Is it normal that i can read them but i can't write them?

It is. You recognize the characters, and that hint is enough for your brain to recall them. However, it may not be able to recall them without a prompt yet. I recently finished learning katakana, and if I go a week without trying to write all the characters, I forget how to write a few characters myself. But I instantly know what they are when I see them.

Same here! I thought I was the problem because I could read them and say them, but once you tell me to write a character, I go BLANK! 😂😅

@leosolis8050 Yes. I think it needs more time and practice to be able to remember how to write characters. My reading isn't that good but I know all letters and it becomes better day by day but I'm zero at writing😂
