JeninTheTurtle I’m going definitely going’s to do this to my siblings. Except I’m not giving them anymore heads up about it. When I get good enough at 日本語, I’m just going to start speaking it all of a sudden and blow their minds.
I hired a native speaker to help teach me, 3 weeks into it now, and my last session, and I asked for easy reading material like newspapers, she started recommending manga, and I must have looked like a deer in the headlights, because all I could think was “how did you know??”
My reasons for learning Japanese: -impress my friends/family -be able to read manga before translated -I think the language sounds really cool -go to Japan -sing the song “summertime” without it sounding like gibberish -and to suffer throughout my learning
SO! I am so happy. A little over 100 days ago I decided to try to learn Japanese. I first watched this video and was like what? But watching this now, I'm shook at how much I've learned. I make sure to practice a little everyday even if for just a few minutes. It's really trippy to me. I can read/write Korean - so it's like that. Just seeing characters and being able to read them literally feels like unlocking a power. Anyone reading this: KEEP GOING! ~
Congrats dude. I learned hiragana in 1 day 15ish hrs and I think im gonna rest my brain for a couple of days before tackling Katakana. I better get ready coz' after Katakana the nightmare starts...Kanji and it's 2100+ characters
Hi people.. Good to see you all learn Japanese. I am risa. ☺ by dway, i also teach Japanese at my UA-cam channel. You can check it out if you want. I hope my lessons help u😇...
Maybe they were disappointed that they didn't "Learn ALL Hiragana in 1 Hour". It's a good video, but there's no way anyone's going to remember them all after one hour of study.
Almost a decade later and still one of the best resources (probably is simply the best) for learning hiragana. This video plus some flashcards = success. Thank you so much!
Yes! Duolingo doesn't teach you all hiragana and katakana characters. They start too early with the kanji. It's much easier to learn with Duolingo if you've watched this video
Yep I was learning from Duolingo but they start hard lessons too soon.... I'm learning by writing down each and every character here then I'll be back on Duolingo
LingoDeer is much more informative and will help you memorize the scripts as well as teaching you how to write them. You can also learn Katakana and Kanji there
So in other words : Hiragana : basic alphabet and sounds exactly the same Katakana : Use for foreign words Kanji : SSS tier difficulty words with infinity meaning
Most Japanese people dont even know all of em💀 how do you want me (A trilingual person excluding Japanese cuz I cant speak it yet) to learn all that Kanji shit and not forget the other 3 languages😐 IMPOSSIBLE PERIODT
@cotton candy Nah it can be even more confusing since they share the same characters but different sounds and meaning. E.g 先生 means Mister (Mr.) or Sir. in Mandarin but Teacher in Japanese. The easiest way of learning Japanese from another language is if you learned 注音(ZhuYin), a method of writing a character via formation other than writing (strokes), 部首(BuShou) which uses the "category" of a set of characters to find the right one or 拼音(PinYin) which uses the sound to find the character. It is a common method of typing or reading used in Taiwan. Japanese is derived from Mandarin so it is easier but as long as you do not use existing knowledge, it is at most, A- tier difficulty. Hiragana and Katakana are parts that Mandarin does not have, making Mandarin the only system that has sounds which presents 10 to 100+ characters each.
It’s tough to memorize everything I’ve learned so far since I literally JUST started, but surely I’ll make it. To anyone else who also struggles to remember things in these lessons, you can do it! You’re not alone, we’re learning with you!
Some suggested mnemonics: ろ - looks like a '3': 3 in a [ro]w よ - looks like a person doing yoga: [yo]ga を - looks like a person feeling the water with his toe: [wa]ter dipping I really like the suggested mnemonics, it really helps me studying the syllables! Keep up the good work.
Indeed, very nice suggestions. Many ideas of the film above are much worse in that respect :) The problem is a bit worse when you have to write. Especially, that you have to remember the order of strokes. But even without that... Just imagine you have to write Japanese wa and you remember about "a person feeling the water with his toe". Not easy to guess what to draw... :)
@hetultanna4980 they have them all over the world. Happy to see they got in right near me at FIU. Dont know if ill know enough to take n1, since its coming up in about a month, but damn it ill try.
Why i want to know Japanese: -Anime -Flex knowing 3 idioms -Also flex in front of my family -To know more people -To feel smarter somehow -To play that one mobile game that is only in Japanese
Finally. It took me a month, but I finally finished. I wrote notes and everything. I'm so tired. (also edit: just want to note, I purposely took my time with this and spaced it over a long period of time because taking breaks to let smaller amounts of information sit in helps your memory, so for anyone taking this lesson, feel free to take your time)
Hey Uma!, I have some really simple and effective beginner lessons on my channel if you ever wanted to check it out! Would be great to see you there and help you!

@Zalaxci honestly you only need like 10 minutes of free time a day to learn one columb of hiragana and soon you'll learn everything (this goes to katakana as well)
I’m Japanese I respect who can speak Japanese also learn Japanese so difficult. Japanese has 3 alphabet hiragana katakana kanji. And we use mixing Sorry my English is terrible I learn English! I’ll keeping getting better
Pretty good comment , there are a few grammatical mistakes yet you're completely comprehensible . Also those of us who speak English tend to make mistakes all the time as well ironically so at some point you'll come off pretty eloquent compared to native speakers if you study hard enough .
Hi people.. Good to see you all learn Japanese. I am risa. ☺ by dway, i also teach Japanese at my UA-cam channel. You can check it out if you want. I hope my lessons help u😇...
Yejin Unicorn It takes time but if you keep memorizing it and identifying it. Your brain will be able to process it at a faster pace. The reason for the brain that’s processing slowly, is because it lacks experience. So that’s why it’s adapting in learning.
Pen and paper helps a lot,I'll just write everything over and over for like an hour and it's been helping me recognize the symbols easier,as well as some "muscle memory". Phonetics is a different story.
Ya it’s been a month now and I’ve mostly gotten the vowels down. Sorta kicking myself I waited till now to start learning. Have always had an interest in Japan (no not cause of anime). And have wanted to visit. Guess as a kid that seemed unattainable so I never bothered to learn. But now as an adult it’s doable. And I’m a believer in if you go somewhere you should at the very least know enough of the language of where you’re going to be able to communicate at a basic level. Edit: First week was rough, but then bought a note book and started writing the symbols and the pronunciation.
Hey guys! It took me about 3-4 days to memorize and finish this video, but it was worth it! I just want to motivate whoever is reading this... So keep going! It may or may not be difficult, but please don't give up! :-D
Currently on my 3rd day on learning hiragana. I must say it really depends on the person studying this. I always pause the vid whenever there was a new word or when the quiz starts (I really read so slow). I also occasionally mix up some of the characters so I guess it will take me a week to learn hiragana.
@@aesca2447 heh I'm taking my time as well. Spending respectable amount of time on each lesson so I can recognize those characters (and also writing them) to better understand how do they work and how to write them
I created flash cards for all the characters It helps A toooon also if you just read them in random words or just recognize them they become easy to know at just a glance
Man I thought I was the only one! I have Japanese classes in school and it’s so difficult so I started using UA-cam to help me study cuz I don’t want to fail lol.
I have a tip for remembering も “mo”: I like to think of it as a fishing hook with bait, and when you use bait, you’re trying to catch mo’ fish (more fish).
TFW you spend the past 4 months watching this video, and finally got every single hirigana stuck in your brain and can actually read some japanese now. feelsgoodman
I have learned so much from just 13 minutes into the video, 13 min has been 1 hour of me writing and studying. I will continue watching but I am thankful for this video. I’m so excited to learn💙
It only took me a total of two hours, but writing is just so hard. It's not because of the strokes, but because I forget what something like ゆ looks like.
Im looking at this and soo badly want to juat sit in my bed like i do with all my fav songs and just repeat this over and over until I get it but iknow once i start i cant stop so im just like 🤯😔
I remember giving up japanese last year because none of the characters stuck. I tried again 2 days ago, and i'm now half way through the video having memorized everything i saw so far. This is miracle material.
@@that_random_trashcan7261 Best way to learn language is to watch with said language subtitles. That is how i learned English. And that is why i am learning how to read Japanese so i can learn it too.
I wish I had language classes. I studied French on my own, and being a FIlipino which was the total opposite of how we pronounce words are very challenging. Now that I've come so far though, I'm here learning Japanese. I swear I planned to learn Japanese instead of French years ago but I was intimidated by Kanji. Now there's nothing I fear since I have an experience in learning a language, so thank you for this!! If this is your first time learning a language, don't EVER give up! It may be hard now, but every little progress you make is a huge step forward! And months or years from now, you'll be glad you didn't give up :D
I know how yo solve every single rubik's cube and puzzles like that so I am learning japanese like a puzzle and when I do that it seems easier than those puzzles
treat this like you are in school! pause the video, take as many notes as possible and truly test yourself without cheating yourself. I'm only 30 minutes in the video but have spent 10+ hours writing everything! This is so helpful and once I'm done I'm going to do it all again to obtain true understanding.
Yep. So glad I found this video. I've learned more in 1 hour with this video than any other Japanese-language resource. Took me an hour to learn the first 10 characters (15 sounds) and the other notes... and I've probably written each character 100+ times and test myself with flashcards. Take your time on this video and you'll be on you way to mastery!
A suffix is the end of a Latin (maybe Greek too, I forgot) base word. The word could also include a prefix, which is the same thing, but it is in the beginning of a word. Example: [intellect] and then [ual] and the suffix "ist" means a person who studies something.
It's strangely interesting how I unknowingly associate certain hiragana with certain English words that she taught in this video. So, everytime I try to read Hiragana it is immensely easier for me to recall what I learned. Arigato Gozaimasu!
A good thing to think about to is that english is kind of like kanji. When you are talking you arent thinking of each letter you say. You just pronounce the word, like kanji! じゃね
@@toastedsockfor me since English is my third language, I use things to remember the hiragana with and the first time I see it as that I never forget for example あ looks like an apple 🍎 like she said and now it’s etched into my brain

I totally agreee, before seeing this video I was studying Japanese on duolingo, this is so much faster to learn and more eficient. Now I don't even use duolingo
@@dangomeister yeah i totally agree, i think because Japanese has very complex alfabets what I mean is that you even have to learn the order of the lines and duolingo doesn't teach that. Also lots people memorize the characters by them remembering them by an image like Riza does, and duolingo doesn't do that either

My reasons for learning Japanese:
-impress my friends/family
-be able to read manga before translated
-I think the language sounds really cool
-go to Japan
-sing the song “summertime” without it sounding like gibberish
-and to suffer throughout my learning

Thanks man❤️

I tried learning japanese from Duolingo but this video was way more informational and helped me actually
Yes! Duolingo doesn't teach you all hiragana and katakana characters. They start too early with the kanji. It's much easier to learn with Duolingo if you've watched this video
Yeah I’m on a break from Duolingo to learn all the hiragana and katakana. Than I’m probably going back to Duolingo
Yep I was learning from Duolingo but they start hard lessons too soon....
I'm learning by writing down each and every character here then I'll be back on Duolingo
yeah i wish they would start with the alphabet rather than start with big words like konichiwa and sayonara
LingoDeer is much more informative and will help you memorize the scripts as well as teaching you how to write them.
You can also learn Katakana and Kanji there
So in other words :
Hiragana : basic alphabet and sounds exactly the same
Katakana : Use for foreign words
Kanji : SSS tier difficulty words with infinity meaning
X+ difficulty where there are thousands of characters each with a different meaning and an average of 3 years to master
Most Japanese people dont even know all of em💀 how do you want me (A trilingual person excluding Japanese cuz I cant speak it yet) to learn all that Kanji shit and not forget the other 3 languages😐 IMPOSSIBLE PERIODT
I learned chinese from kindergarten or first grade all the way to sixth grade. I only know a few. The rest forgotten. Reduced to ashes
Help I decided to start learning Japanese while I'm learning Spanish, Latin and Mandarin in school. Why do I do this to myself?
i took notes in a little note book and brought it to school, two of my friends ended up copying those notes for a whole day, the power of one video

Haha, so true
LMAO... Me too🤣🤣🤣

よ - looks like a person doing yoga: [yo]ga
を - looks like a person feeling the water with his toe: [wa]ter dipping
I really like the suggested mnemonics, it really helps me studying the syllables!
Keep up the good work.
Awesome associations 👌🏻
Indeed, very nice suggestions. Many ideas of the film above are much worse in that respect :) The problem is a bit worse when you have to write. Especially, that you have to remember the order of strokes. But even without that... Just imagine you have to write Japanese wa and you remember about "a person feeling the water with his toe". Not easy to guess what to draw... :)

Edit:
First week was rough, but then bought a note book and started writing the symbols and the pronunciation.
I finished both lesson 1 and 2 in a day 🤷

And no one should be discouraged if it takes them longer to learn. Just keep practicing every day and you'll learn them all eventually :)
Currently on my 3rd day on learning hiragana. I must say it really depends on the person studying this. I always pause the vid whenever there was a new word or when the quiz starts (I really read so slow). I also occasionally mix up some of the characters so I guess it will take me a week to learn hiragana.
Imo it's not about difficulty. Just patience. Give anything time and effort and you'll memorize it in the back of your head

Did you just watch it once a day then started to take notes once you knew some or just kept watching it till it stuck?

Can I ask how did you study French on your own? How long did that take? I'm also studying French but i'm currently kinda stuck.
Very good motivation thank you I will do my best

How are you in japanese now?
The visual drawing on how you can remember the Hiragana (unicorn, robbed ruby, etc) makes this easier and I really appreciate it so much!
when they compare Japanese grammatical systems to English but you dont even remember what a suffix is
Now think on my situation, my mother language is Portuguese :v
Facts :'D
A suffix is the end of a Latin (maybe Greek too, I forgot) base word. The word could also include a prefix, which is the same thing, but it is in the beginning of a word. Example: [intellect] and then [ual] and the suffix "ist" means a person who studies something.

It's strangely interesting how I unknowingly associate certain hiragana with certain English words that she taught in this video. So, everytime I try to read Hiragana it is immensely easier for me to recall what I learned. Arigato Gozaimasu!

you mean ありがと ございます
A good thing to think about to is that english is kind of like kanji. When you are talking you arent thinking of each letter you say. You just pronounce the word, like kanji! じゃね

This is much much more WAAAY helpful than duolingo
I totally agreee, before seeing this video I was studying Japanese on duolingo, this is so much faster to learn and more eficient. Now I don't even use duolingo
I just came off of that to find a more efficient way of learning hiragana too! lol
@@marr3708 yea it feels like Duolingo is a really bad choice for learning Japanese, but it works really well for other languages and idk why
YESHHH I AGREES WITH YOU
Even nearly 6 years later, this is the most easy and understandable way for me to learn hiragana. Whoever came up with this idea of explaining it is a genius! Thank you so much! You made me learn something in a fun way which put me off from learning Japanese before I found the video!
