I'm 75 my hair fell out last year due to box haircolor. Over the last year it has grown back and is completely white. Everyone loves it. I wish I had stopped years ago
I'm 69 and I had my hair colored professionally for over 20 years, however, in-between I had to use powders, root coverup dyes that messed with my scalp. I also began to lose my hair which had always been thick and healthy. I suppose my scalp was screaming at me to stop and the pandemic lockdowns were the final straw. I went cold turkey and four years later, my hair has grown back; it's long, healthy and I receive lots of compliments. I also wish I had done this sooner.
I'm so sorry your hair fell out. Mine just did. I cannot take the hair dye anymore. Question: did you go to your doctor about the hair falling out? And if you did, what did they say?
I quit highlighting my hair (never did all over color) about 10 years ago. My hairdresser helped me wean down the amount of spots highlighted until we just stopped. I’ve had so many people compliment me on my hair! Strangers will come up to me and tell me how beautiful it is. I have long single length hair now and I love it! Fewer trips to hairdresser, easy to put in a ponytail or up in a clip, it takes care of itself. Very little fussing. Good for you, encouraging others! Two of my friends decided to go gray after I did…they both look fabulous (and way better) gray! Courage is contagious!
I'm early 50's, just lost my waist length straight black hair thru chemo, now it's back curly, gun metal grey and I LOVE IT ❤ Grey is a beautiful hair colour.. don't fight nature.. ❤
2:03pm I have been dying my hair on a regular basis for over 5yrs, before that it was hit and miss. I decided to stop dying this year after I dyed it in January. My husband isn't on board with my going gray. I have to say he is the reason I have been dying my hair. Like many people he thinks having gray hair makes people look old. I enjoy watching the silver sister videos it helps give me the inspiration to keep going thanks to all of you lovely ladies
You look amazing with your natural gray. I used only henna to dye my hair. Stopped using it 4 years ago. I love my gray hair and it does not make me look old (almost 65). I have long and curly hair a d it's much healthier, less dry.😂
Aww this comment made me so sad. Your life is about you. What makes you happy, healthy and alive! Another person has no right to dictate what you do with your body / hair. Does he also put himself in danger and put chemicals on his body in order to look good for you? I wonder about the thought processes of these men, truly. Look at 11:25 in her video. I am sure you are beautiful no matter what hair color you have! You are inherently worthy of love and adoration and that doesn’t go away simply because you’ve allowed gray hair to grow out. All the best to you! ❤
Yep , I quit 4yrs now and have long healthy silver hair. Best beauty decision I have made. I noticed too it grows quicker without all the chemicals and breakage it's a win win. 😊
I stopped dyeing 3 years ago. My hair just keeps getting better and my natural curl is coming back. I also get compliments on my hair. My boyfriend loves it and I love saving all the money!
I love my silver-streaked hair. I only wish it was more white! My Mum is only 16 years older than me, and she has pure white hair that money just can't buy. I get compliments on my hair all the time, and men love it. They say I look unique and authentic - which is a nice bonus!
I stopped dyeing during the pandemic after 30 years of coloring it. Took 2 years to grow out. I like it gray! It’s healthier. And mine has a lot of natural highlights/variation in color. The one downside is that people definitely treat me differently - like I’m old. So while I used to look 10-15 years younger, I no longer do. Oh well.
I almost considered dyeing my hair again because of the very reasons you wrote, people treat me different, I also looked younger, maybe I will get a rinse 😂
You can change your hair style to a more youthful look, change your makeup, wardrobe etc. I have been told I look younger than I am but quite frankly, I ready to share some wisdom, maybe they will listen😂.
Women are starting to embrace our natural state. When we get older and wiser we realise we don't need to please men at our expense. Our priorities change and that's a good thing. Because once we stop using that dye bottle, what's left is our true self. ❤
I decided in my late 20’s to never dye my hair again. I didn’t really do it a bunch before that point… I worked around a bunch of other older women and the way they talked about their hair and how they needed to dye it would make me cringe. 😬. I just got to the point where I felt bad for other women who thought that their natural beauty was not beautiful. Then on top of that I jumped on the natural living wagon and started purging my life of all the toxic chemicals. It just blows my mind how toxic a lot of things are and hair dye is just awful. I’m 39 and have been excited about every new silver strand I get. I love it. My hair sparkles now. I look forward to having a full head of silver hair.
Your hair is gorgeous! It makes me want to grow this blonde tumbleweed on my head out and see what’s lurking there & just rock it. Thank you for this video!
Me too!!!!! I was so tired of the cycle and only feeling "good" about my hair for 10 to 12 days!!!! I was "expected" to dye it as I work in a professional environment. But one day I woke up and just knew I was done. Some of the Silver facebook pages started looking intriguing!!! So now it's been 2 years and I've NEVER had hair this healthy since my teen years. It's soft, healthy and happy and I NEVER have to worry about roots EVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!! I love your videos and I hope I can grow my hair as long as yours!!!
I'm 58 and have faithfully dyed my hair for years...and sometimes a few times in the same week....crazy!....I couldn't keep up!..I was so grey that 5 months ago,i thought I'd just see what my actual real hair looked like..as I've been coloring since 16.....wow.....it grey in thicker and almost silvery....I love it!...so does my husband and friends...I really don't miss fighting the grey, fighting the brassiness, and it feeling self conscious over how thin it was getting.....great video!
I am in my 50’s and I am asked on regular basis about what I do to get the color I have and I tell them: I leave my hair ALONE! I absolutely love it! I was told that if I stop dying my hair, I will look 10 years older. That is not true: I get compliments how young and fresh I look. I look my age. I look good and my age. And I’m confident and healthy and happy: all I want at this stage of my life. So happy I stopped spending money on stupid stuff!
It's true, as we age our skin tone changes and and the dark hair we had before suddenly starts to looks harsher against our skin if we keep dying it. But the natural grey and lighter colours that come through as we get older will automatically complement our skin tobes!
My hair started falling out. I am 45, and I have been going grey for 2 years. My hair is way healthier, and I get compliments. My hair and skin go together now.
I had been coloring my hair blonde for decades. It was very expensive, high maintenance and my hair became dry. One day I dyed my hair a color close to what I thought was my natural hair was. I let it grow out and never looked back. I love my natural color and am embracing the gray. It is so healthy now. No regrets at all. 😊
I dye my hair with herbs and plants like henna. I add things like hibiscus, moringa and neem. Those who prefer darker or black hair, I suggest adding indigo powder. These natural products provide great benefit for my then thinning and breaking hair.
@@Snappypantsdance It really has worked for me. I dye with body quality henna (not the liquid chemical-filled concoctions out there). Took some getting used to, but the results makes it worthwhile. Please check out YT vids on how to apply. Today is natural hair dye day!🥰🥳
@@libbylib1819 thank you so much for replying and the info! I will watch a video tomorrow and I may have some questions for you if you don’t mind me posing some:). Is your hair still thinning? Mine was as I lost my hubby at 45 and went prematurely white and thinning. So glad to have come across your comment honestly! This could be kind of a game changer for me, as I really might need to consider coloring for professional purposes. Thanks again:)!
@@gohomo2384Fresh ginger - consumed every 2/3 hours (as is/in smoothies/chopped up with hot water, lemon and honey, etc - is actually fantastic for coughs and colds/flu. Semi accidental and joyful discovery after finishing 3 bottles of cough meds and rupturing a vessel in my nose from the endless sneezing. I have never bought another cough meds since. I do take other non-ayurvedic remedies/meds. I just limit their usage when I find butter natural alternatives. I wash with black soap as much as possible - not exclusively and looking at recipes for natural, no lye/soap laundry detergent to combat some health conditions. There's nothing wrong with trying to go natural where possible, practical, healthier or affordable.
Stopped coloring in my late 40's. Best decision ever. I found the freedom that I had in my 20's. Could go anywhere and do anything at a moments notice. My gray hair is healthy and looks beautiful. My hair is no longer fried, its soft, shiny and with great body. No one supported me at first...NO ONE. But that didn't stop me - stayed committed and I never looked back. ❤
This natural color looks better on you than all the others you had. It looks brighter and healthier. My hair is mostly white, natural platinum, and I’m keeping it. Will never go back to the drudgery and damage of dying it. But there are color shampoos and conditioners that can add a tint if I ever want a subtle temporary change.
I got my first gray in my 20s but had been highlighting my hair since I was 16. For over 30 years, I was regularly coloring it. Then, the pandemic hit, and I had to medically retire due to chronic pain. Salons were closed, so I stopped coloring my hair and washing it daily. I now wash it every 2-3 days and seldom use heat. I do sometimes throw some fun semi-permanent colorful streaks of purple or pink, but nothing permanent or all over. My hair, that never went past my bra strap, is now down to my waist, and I have a really cool white streak of hair framing my face. I have a couple other grays, but the streaks get all the attention, and I love them! #EmbraceTheGray
This is one of the best videos I've seen on going gray. You clearly expressed many of the same thoughts, emotions and ultimate realizations that I experienced throughout my journey. I stopped dying in 2017 and never looked back, love my silver hair. Like many woman it was about more than just hair, it was the start of a positive lifestyle change.
I found this very interesting. I have never dyed my hair. I saw lots of other peple do it, but one of things that did stop me , was i could see all effort people were putting into it and knew i would not want to do that. 65 now and actually still have lots of dark hair along with the grey. I think it looks softer around the face than dyed hair.
I haven't colored my hair in 10 months. I'm super excited to have my natural hair color . My hair is starting to look Shiny and healthy. I'm about halfway there. I think I need another year before my hair's back to normal
@@BlueBlossomsBlues It can come in course, though we all have different hair types. I use oils on mids and ends. I use conditioning pack's after shampooing. Mine is medium with curls.
I’ve been dying my hair since I was thirteen and stopped three years ago. I would never go back to dying my hair every two weeks (that was how fast my greys came in). Thank you for putting out this video ❤
Hot roots are the most frustrating thing! I have just passed the 4-year dye free mark thanks to the early support from you and my fellow silver sisters. Thank you for keeping the message strong and inspiring on! ❤ thegrayist
I'm 48 and grateful for my natural brown hair. I am psychologically ready to go grey now. I think, if I had gone grey sooner, I would have started coloring it and gotten trapped in that cycle. Thanks for helping me look on the bright side for where I am headed...grey pastures! lol
I tried growing my grey out a couple of years ago, but then one day I went back to dyeing. Until recently. I turned 70 and with grey growing on top of my bright red, I decided that was very ugly. So I dyed it one more time in a natural brown and now, let the grey appear, can't be bothered anymore. I love your hair BTW
I’ve been coloring my hair every shade of red for 12 years. I’m tired of the keep up. I’m going to go a neutral light brown and then see what happens. Last time I asked I was a natural ash brown.
This is inspiring. Just started letting my white hair grow out for the last 3 months after coloring since 13 years old. At first just for fun, at 16 for the grays and fun! Now 71 and more than ready to embrace my age and white natural hair. Great video for all at any age.
Hi! 👋 Loved your video and subscribed. I’m at about 2 inches into my going grey journey. I’m so excited to watch it grow out. Most of my friends dye their hair, but are supportive of my decision. Thank you for this video and I look forward to seeing many more! Your hair is beautiful!! 🤩
There is nothing more tragic than dyed black hair with grey roots. I am about to give myself my last haircut to get rid of the previously bleached/dyed hair - it's the last two inches and my hair will still be well below shoulder length. I didn't get my first greys until my early 50's and now at 58 I just do not want the hassle of dyeing and worrying. My hair looks fabulous with it's natural highlights and blocks of grey around the face. It's taken about 21 months and been well worth it.
I’ve been suffering with an auto immune diagnosis that has been almost bed bound. The only time I leave the house is to get my hair coloured! Wow…thank you for the info…I’m quitting dye today.
I retired in 2020 during the height of the pandemic and I decided that since I did not have to go to a job, that I might as well let my gray hair come completely in. Sometimes I miss the color, but I have learned to embrace my gray hair. It is just in the front and on the sides, and I am excited to see it completely go totally gray. Thank you for the confirmation!
I stopped dying my hair at 20 and I never looked back even now at age 34 I now have so many grays they blend in beautifully into my chestnut brown hair and I love them. I get a pink tinted conditioner that I use occasionally for a bit of fun, it makes my grays slightly pink and washes out so no damage and just as much fun as actually dying my hair 🥰💕💕💕 thankyou so much for this video I resignate with you so much 🧘
Hi,I read your comment I like to try different color’s on my hair but I want it to wash out also what is the name of the Pink Conditioner you use for your once in awhile fun ?? Thanks 😊
I love my silver gray hair! It naturally shimmers. A good cut every 5 to 6 weeks plus using a good shampoo & conditioner is all I have to do with it. Absolutely no regrets!
What a great video :) I stop dyeing my hair in 2019 and never looked back. The more white I had, the more difficult it was to get to a natural color, I always had either a red or blue undertone. And I also was diagnosed with an autoimmune illness in 2016, so that contributed to my decision. The most underrated "side effect" of going grey for me was that new found confidence :)
I have never dyed my gray. There’s more of it every day, especially at the crown. I started to go gray about 6 years ago when I turned 50 but it’s still mostly brown. My mom dyed her hair for about 30 years and just stopped this year because she realized that it was too much work and has lovely silver hair.
I stopped dyeing my hair when I was 37. I'm 44 now and I get tons of compliments on my hair. So many women will say, "Well, I would do that too if I knew it would turn out like yours," and I have to correct them by saying, "I had no idea what it was going to look like until I did it." I hated the two-year grow out process (looked terrible), and then another few years to get the long length I wanted, however it was SO worth it. My advice is to quit cold-turkey and wear a scarf, hat, or wig until it's grown out. I ruined my hair (bleach to lessen demarcation only lead to my hair breaking off).
I felt I freed myself to me really me when I stopped dyeing my hair! It's a beautiful silver-white now and I get tons of compliments! I really like it and I am glad I did it!
I worked in the beauty industry for awhile and honestly when people start wondering wether or not they should cover their grays I always would let them know they are going to be a slave to the touch ups and if they want to go back to gray they will either have to live with the awkward regrowth for awhile or spend a lot of time and money on a color correction.
Thank so much you for this great video. I've just started my going gray journey and my biggest concern is people's opinion. The good thing is I'm also very excited to rediscover my real hair colour. I've been dying my hair for 12 years and it just doesn't make sense anymore.
One of my best friends got her first greys this spring, shes 33 and she is over the moon! She would love your colour sooner than later. Glad you see the beauty of your hair now too.
I stopped dying my hair about a year and a half ago and I never got more compliments about my hair... I loveee my natural grey highlights, sooo freeing and I never felt more beautiful and more confident, I stopped wearing makeup too... Quess I'm a natural beauty now and I loveee it..... 😊❤
I am heading into week 9 of no dye and this past week I thought to myself I would have colored 3 times in this amount of time.😮 Also, this week pushed me further over the hump because the greys are starting to bend/blend into the darker hair rather that look like a bad case of razor stubble. Not gonna lie, weeks 3 -7 not a happy camper.😢 But I heard a Silver Sister say you have to give it until at least week 10 to see your hair pattern and Iam pleasantly surprised because it is not what you see in the beginning weeks! I am loving it and am finally starting to enjoy the process. Also there are 2 ladies at my church doing it too we are all at different stages.❤
Same here. I'm not ready to go grey. I've switched to henna. I now dye my roots every 8 weeks. I let the henna dye stay for 1 hour (even if the box said only 30 min). When I used chemical dyes, sometimes I'd leave it for 3 or 4 months. Good luck!
I discovered gray in my hair at 18. I'd been coloring my hair since I was 14. In my early 30s, I developed a substantial gray streak on the front left side, and I felt like I had to cover it. By the time I turned 40, I was tired of it, and now I'm 52 and enjoy the gray. Because I kept my hair short, it took no time for it to grow in, thankfully. I feel better about myself, and if I want to have some color, there are options that won't hurt my hair. I'm just so happy that I don't have to color my hair every three weeks.
I am 63 and been dying my hair since I was 23. 40 years !!!! I stopped 2 months ago and my natural colour is now coming through. The rest is red. I really want to see this through and stop dyeing and I hope I can keep going. Thanks for the inspiration.
I am 72 and started dyeing my hair in my early twenties. I had started turning gray in college. By the time I stopped dyeing it about 6 years ago my hair was a beautiful silvery white color. I love it!
I’ve been having blonde highlights on my light brown hair since I was 16 and I’m 55 now. I learnt from my Mum, you just carry on and the grey blends with the blonde. I haven’t changed how i look after my hair and it looks great …..so I’m told. 🤷♀️
I had my hair highlighted at a salon for years. I never had a whole lot of grey but after i lost my hair from chemo (ladies, be careful about ovarian cancer), my hair grew back in quite grey. Im struggling because it really does age me, I am 59 but always looked a good 10 years younger. I love no upkeep and the money savings but i look older....help!
I developed eczema which was perplexing for 3 yrs until i discovered it was due to hair dye. I stopped coloring my hair and my eczema is gone. Great video, thank you
I’ll be 62 and my grey hair began a few years ago. Right now it’s about 20 percent and I’ve been dying it but because of this I don’t want to anymore. I have seen so many women who look good with it and it’s not about changing the minds of others to go grey but it all about me deciding I think you look so great and your hair is so pretty. So I’m quitting
You look beautiful! I’m not there yet, but I am noticing “resistant greys” getting worse. I only dye every couple months at home, so it doesn’t seem like a big hardship, but you’ve given me something to think about. ❤
Ive never dyed my Hair. I did use natural Henna a few times in my 20s, but basically I'm lazy and/or self-satisfied - my natural dark reddish blonde was fine. I'm 76 now and the hair is a silvery pale brown. Fine with me!
I loved growing out my grays. But unfortunately, there’s a negative societal impact- can also affect your growth at work- it’s all optics. But your livelihood gets attached to it. I use henna and indigo. I’m lucky, I have dark hair that really benefits from this combo. Keeps my hair healthy. But it is a lot of time, effort, and clean up.
DYE AND BLEACH FREE since 2017! The most wonderful and important thing about your journey is the shift from “what THEY think” about your hair to “what I think.” In my case, I had a stylist literally turn my hair into ramen noodles-dried ones. I then found a stylist who would cut my hair into a Pixie. Shortly thereafter, I got a painful case of “frozen shoulder” and literally could not style my hair. The Pixie worked wonders, and I loved it. Now it’s grown out past my shoulders. So many things have changed! I don’t even THINK about gray hair anymore. I have things to do!
I started color my hair when I was 12 by using sun in lol! I’m actually a dark blonde anyway. Now I’m a hairstylist. I’m the colorist at my salon. Funny thing is I’m the blonde specialist but yet I don’t keep my hair blondel lol!
In 2020 when I couldn't see my hairdresser I decided I would just stop dying my hair altogether when the roots grew through, and for the first time I thought "Hey they don't look so bad!" All the dye is gone now, and I have healthier, thicker, shinier hair! I too have an autoimmune condition and since I stopped getting my hair dyed, that has improved too! Lots of girlfriends are doing the same too. Just a bit of purple shampoo now and then, to bring out the highlights and I'm good. Your hair looks fantastic, btw. It really does suit you (and it doesn't make you look older!)
I dyed my hair from my early 20s because of gray hair but I never really liked the color of my brown hair. Then in 2020 after becoming ill, and just not having the ability to go to the salon, or even wanting to do it at home, I decided to bite the bullet and let it go gray. I absolutely love my dark gray with silver highlights. It almost looks like I’ve had it professionally done. And I to get compliments all the time which I never received in my younger years. I now enjoy playing with new makeup and new colors of clothing to accent my hair. For me, it’s been a win-win situation.
I quit, dyeing my hair when I was 28 I am 38 now I have mousy brown and grey hair. I really like my hair I really like my natural colour. I don't have any damage anymore. Some people ask me of I did it myself with the streaks. I didn't. When I did colour my hair I bleached it so bad it was falling out and breaking off it was really damaged and unhealthy. I never coloured it again after that. Now I care for it with everything and its grown back so much better. I actually couldn't care less its natural. My clothes and style and makeup are easier to go with everything. I think about the colouring process but then I know I would regret it straight afterwards. My hair is quite fine and it isn't strong enough to carry on colouring. You go to the salon they like to announce oh your hair is so fine/ thin. Yeah I already know .
Thank you for sharing your point of view! I can agree with a lot of points, classic hair dyes are just damaging. I don't have a single gray hair yet but I like to dye it, and I discovered herbs like henna and I'm using it to make my hair look the way I want them to, I'm having a lot of fun, and it's actually healthy for my skin and hair :)
I’ve had an autoimmune disease my entire life. I used to dye my hair with henna years ago and I think that’s the only healthy way to go. My current routine is DIY hair and DIY hair color. My life is not established, I don’t have a career, I don’t make the money I want and I don’t have the life I want. All of it is still in progress. Therefore me changing my hair color whenever I want gives me a little bit of hope that life is in my control and that it will perhaps get better for me, one day. I love grey hair and one day I’ll go there when I actually have a life that’s established and doesn’t demand that I look younger. Also when I live in a different country, not the USA, that won’t age discriminate me as I grow older!
I know and understand the wanting to not look older by Grey hair… I too was an early grey at the age of 19 😳… About 4ys ago I decided I was DONE with coloring my hair every 3/4 weeks… and feeling HORRIBLE when the grey started showing up… yep a confident felt at first dye is completely gone about 3weeks into coloring my hair. My hair grows really fast. I have ALWAYS wanted that Blue tint the little old ladies had when I was little… I got my Wish! Except I went Purple.. and absolutely LOVE LOVE it! And it was EXTREMELY freeing to not have to pay attention to my roots! Ps… The natural part of our Life Cycle is our bodies get older… and our hair becomes grey in some cases white… And personally seeing an older lady with stark dark hair makes them look older than they are!..
During lockdown I developed contact dermatitis and I stopped dying my hair. I have pale skin and blue eyes and I have found that I cannot wear warm colours anymore! I wear black, mulberry, royal blue, green (not olive) teal. I have had to changed my foundation and really pencil in my eyebrows otherwise I look washed out and grey! Sorry but I miss the blond number 9 box colour! I am really thinking of getting highlights to brighten up my skin. That being said, I do enjoy not having to dye my hair and my hair is thicker especially around the front and at 60 that is an area which can be an issue!
I was blond till 16, wanted more blond , started dying going with highlights till 40 decided to stop, 5 years in and it been the best decision I've made, I'm a dirty blond with stripes of grey , it's a bit dry but some good products belp .
I am 58 and don't really have any gray hair (maybe a stray one here or there.) However, my hair, which naturally was a dark blonde or dirty blonde, has now become a very boring brown color. So, every now and then, I will try to lighten it, myself, with varying rates of success lol. I WISH I would get some interesting gray in there so I wouldn't have to mess with it. I think it would add the...I don't know what to call it...texture? variation? something that it doesn't have with this flat brown color it has become. There is nothing wrong with gray hair!
I stopped dying my hair about 7 years ago, I am almost 60. I get compliments about my grey hair. I have had people asking me if I died it. They were so surprised when I said it is natural.❤😊
I don't like how continuous dying effects my hair health. I've noticed how men are allowed to have grey in their hair and still be considered an "attractive mature man," by our culture. You'll never see a female celebrity, or media reporter, starring in a movie, and portrayed as an "attractive mature woman." Why is that?.....? The only mature female celebs starring in films have to dye their hair and get cosmetic surgeries to continue to get roles.
I haven’t dyed my hair for about 5 years now. I’d love to say it’s shiny and flattering, but due to genetics and age it’s wirey and dry and thin. This would be the same if I dyed it except I think I’d look a little younger because of the color. So what I’d like is advice on creating healthier hair and what to do to address the other issues since I’m not planning on going back to dying it. I’ve been taking gelatin daily in the hope of strengthening it but it hasn’t grown out enough to know if it’s helping. I’d love to say I’m past being vain about my appearance, but aging really is disappointing. Due to perimenopause and weight loss I’ve started to age really fast ~ feels like 10 years of aging in the last 2. I’m trying to mentally adjust, since it’s inevitable and in the bigger scope of things, not important.
Awesome video! I hope you get more subscribers!! You deserve it!! Went henna/indigo free in January 2023!! I still have a short bixie ( sigh ) bit almost all the henna digs is gone! I’ve been playing around with using overtone last 6 months as a temporary way to feel better. Luckily it fades out within a month and doesn’t leave a demarcation! So until it’s long and glory again, I prefer mixing it up with the overtone! I use a combo of espresso brown and extreme silver and love the vibe. It’s not for everyone and may stain some hair types, but for me it’s a good short term fix. Your hair is beautiful!
This does give one pause to consider not colouring anymore. I don't mind some gray showing and I don't rush out to get hair colour the minute I see gray. I do it every 6 weeks or so. I just might give it up now
I have a love hate relationship with my gray salt/pepper hair. Personally, I think it looks nicer if you still have a young face. If you are a bit older, like me, it is a bit more difficult to accept. Getting the right hairstyle and makeup can work wonders. I do believe in that. My hair also seems finer and thinner than when I colored it. Most of the gray is at the temples and I personally don't find that flattering. If you have nice thick hair, then I think gray looks nicer. Still the coloring stopped during the pandemic. Now I subtly leave some meches in my hair twice a year. Also to create some volume. So far I am satisfied with this. This is my personal opinion.

Aw thank you! Show your hubby what fully grown out gray looks like! This is not grammas gray hair!
It's how it is styled, not its color! You are going to rock your unique gray pattern and I have never seen a pattern that wasn't beautiful.
You look amazing with your natural gray. I used only henna to dye my hair. Stopped using it 4 years ago. I love my gray hair and it does not make me look old (almost 65).
I have long and curly hair a d it's much healthier, less dry.😂
Be sure to show your husband the pics. Might just change his mind .
Healthiest hair of my life!
I'm sure you are really beautiful and lovely .
You can change your hair style to a more youthful look, change your makeup, wardrobe etc. I have been told I look younger than I am but quite frankly, I ready to share some wisdom, maybe they will listen😂.
Me too! Upside - young people give up their seat for me on the bus now! 😂😂
Yes it's a crazy cycle of love and loathing! Glad you broke free!
I have to be honest there was a corporate person addressing our group via Zoom who was half way grown out. She gave me the confidence to go for it!
I think the natural hair color softens facial features!
@@grayawhile I agree
It's true, as we age our skin tone changes and and the dark hair we had before suddenly starts to looks harsher against our skin if we keep dying it. But the natural grey and lighter colours that come through as we get older will automatically complement our skin tobes!
I found it very freeing when I quit dying my hair. Love my ash silver shiny hair. Wash and go! Saves so much money and time!
My hair started falling out. I am 45, and I have been going grey for 2 years. My hair is way healthier, and I get compliments. My hair and skin go together now.
That is awesome!
Thank you for this comment. It’s the one I’ve been looking for:).
Yeah yeah go wash yourself with soda, wash ur hair with vinegar, treat a flu with a lemon
Lol
I stopped about 10 years ago after 35+ years of dying my hair. Perfect choice for sure! You are right.
Omg thank you. I'm seriously honored! 🥰
I'm the same. 😊
I haven't colored my hair in 10 months. I'm super excited to have my natural hair color . My hair is starting to look Shiny and healthy. I'm about halfway there. I think I need another year before my hair's back to normal
Wow! This really is spot on. I made the decision to stop dyeing last year. It’s about 1/2 way grown out & I love it. I actually feel more confident.
🥰🥰🥰
Never had so many compliments with my shiny healthy hair. Have to admit the transition when it's half half can be difficult but worth it in the end
Totally worth it!
You have shiny grey hair?!?! Wow didn't think greys grew smooth and shiny, mine certainly don't.
Agreed! And you're welcome!
Hot roots are the most frustrating thing! I have just passed the 4-year dye free mark thanks to the early support from you and my fellow silver sisters. Thank you for keeping the message strong and inspiring on! ❤ thegrayist
Hi!! And you are so welcome!
"I've discovered my own validation". Love this Lynn! Quality video here! You hit every point.. loved this!
Yep when you're ready you're ready! Thanks so much for watching
Welcome!!
Your natural haircolor is so beautiful!!!❤
Thank you so much
I’ve been suffering with an auto immune diagnosis that has been almost bed bound. The only time I leave the house is to get my hair coloured! Wow…thank you for the info…I’m quitting dye today.
Yes the research i found showed a link so I figured why not stop!
I get a pink tinted conditioner that I use occasionally for a bit of fun, it makes my grays slightly pink and washes out so no damage and just as much fun as actually dying my hair 🥰💕💕💕 thankyou so much for this video I resignate with you so much 🧘
Thanks for sharing! And for watching!!
Hi,I read your comment I like to try different color’s on my hair but I want it to wash out also what is the name of the Pink Conditioner you use for your once in awhile fun ?? Thanks 😊
Hello, thank you for the video! I like your way of thinking about gray hair.
So wanting to ditch the dye and feel better about me. Praying for strength to do it!
Thank you. This helped me.
You can do it!
I love my silver gray hair! It naturally shimmers. A good cut every 5 to 6 weeks plus using a good shampoo & conditioner is all I have to do with it. Absolutely no regrets!
Same here! 4 years without dying my hair. Now i love my gray soft hair and i expect them to go more gray!
Thank you so much! The confidence was so unexpected!
This is the most beautiful thing I have seen in a long, long time. KEEP GOING!
I’m 59 and I stopped any hair color December 2022. Never coloring again. Everything you just talked about. I went t through it and I agree ❤
Your eyes and natural hair are gorgeous.
I stopped dying my hair about a year and a half ago and I never got more compliments about my hair... I loveee my natural grey highlights, sooo freeing and I never felt more beautiful and more confident, I stopped wearing makeup too... Quess I'm a natural beauty now and I loveee it..... 😊❤
Thanks for sharing! 🥰
I am heading into week 9 of no dye and this past week I thought to myself I would have colored 3 times in this amount of time.😮
Also, this week pushed me further over the hump because the greys are starting to bend/blend into the darker hair rather that look like a bad case of razor stubble. Not gonna lie, weeks 3 -7 not a happy camper.😢
But I heard a Silver Sister say you have to give it until at least week 10 to see your hair pattern and Iam pleasantly surprised because it is not what you see in the beginning weeks! I am loving it and am finally starting to enjoy the process. Also there are 2 ladies at my church doing it too we are all at different stages.❤
I'm not ready and I dont think I will be soon. I could swap for henna type of colors.
Same here. I'm not ready to go grey. I've switched to henna. I now dye my roots every 8 weeks. I let the henna dye stay for 1 hour (even if the box said only 30 min).
When I used chemical dyes, sometimes I'd leave it for 3 or 4 months. Good luck!
Your hair is beautiful, indeed much better without dye
I discovered gray in my hair at 18. I'd been coloring my hair since I was 14. In my early 30s, I developed a substantial gray streak on the front left side, and I felt like I had to cover it. By the time I turned 40, I was tired of it, and now I'm 52 and enjoy the gray. Because I kept my hair short, it took no time for it to grow in, thankfully. I feel better about myself, and if I want to have some color, there are options that won't hurt my hair. I'm just so happy that I don't have to color my hair every three weeks.
Such a difference between curled and straight.you are beautiful both ways.
I am 63 and been dying my hair since I was 23. 40 years !!!! I stopped 2 months ago and my natural colour is now coming through. The rest is red. I really want to see this through and stop dyeing and I hope I can keep going. Thanks for the inspiration.
Your hair color is beautiful. Really beautiful. I love it.
Thank you so much!
I started henna, rubbia and cassia herbs, love it!
I developed eczema which was perplexing for 3 yrs until i discovered it was due to hair dye. I stopped coloring my hair and my eczema is gone. Great video, thank you
Wow that's amazing!
im off dye as well:) its very healing
🥰🥰
I did quit too and I love the way it looks
That's awesome! Did you go cold turkey or blend it at all?
I’d like to see pics of how you let your natural hair grow in?? That’s where some get stuck!!
Aww that's awesome!! I'm here for support!
You have beautiful hair and the cut looks great on you!
I gave up the dye years ago and Love my silver hair, it is so healthy now (and calf length).
You look beautiful! I’m not there yet, but I am noticing “resistant greys” getting worse. I only dye every couple months at home, so it doesn’t seem like a big hardship, but you’ve given me something to think about. ❤
If/ when you're ready, you'll know! 🥰
Thanks for sharing! 🥰
I started color my hair when I was 12 by using sun in lol! I’m actually a dark blonde anyway. Now I’m a hairstylist. I’m the colorist at my salon. Funny thing is I’m the blonde specialist but yet I don’t keep my hair blondel lol!
Omg Sun-In hahaha 😂 we used lemon juice too!
@@grayawhile Cool!
Thanks for sharing! 🥰
I just quit dyeing (blonde).
I think your hair is beautiful 😍
You’re beautiful. I stopped dying my hair four years ago. ❤️
Isn't it the best?
Sadly ageism is a thing. And you are so right about the US. And honestly if dyeing your hair makes you feel good, then do it.
While you have always been a gorgeous lady, I must say your salt and pepper hair looks amazing!
Thank you so much
I know and understand the wanting to not look older by Grey hair… I too was an early grey at the age of 19 😳…
About 4ys ago I decided I was DONE with coloring my hair every 3/4 weeks… and feeling HORRIBLE when the grey started showing up… yep a confident felt at first dye is completely gone about 3weeks into coloring my hair.
Agreed! Thanks for sharing! 🥰
You Are beautiful! I am definitely going to go gray when my hair tells me it’s time.
Thank you! And yes embrace the gray!
I wish I could let my fairy floss frizz hair grow out to its real gray - but, no! You are beautiful and so is your hair ❤
Thanks for sharing! 🥰
I was blond till 16, wanted more blond , started dying going with highlights till 40 decided to stop, 5 years in and it been the best decision I've made, I'm a dirty blond with stripes of grey , it's a bit dry but some good products belp .
I just am not ready to quit dying my hair…good for y’all! When I’m ready, I’ll be ready!
Yes you defined have to be ready!
I think grey hair does make people look older… but you can age gracefully and still look classy.
I’m 39 and getting more grays, not too noticeable now they’re mostly hidden, but I’ll probably color my hair then get sick of it and quit someday
Started dying my hair at 16. About a decade ago, mid 40s, I stopped dying it. Have never been so happy in my life. 2 thumbs up, can recommend.
I'm 59. Not ready to stop
You don't ever have to stop! But you know where to find me if you want to 🥰
I stopped dying my hair about 7 years ago, I am almost 60.
Yes. I got so tired of chasing the gray. I also have autoimmune disease, not sure how true that is. I'm def sure it drives inflammation!
PS this video made my day. I am so sick of ageism. No other -isms are acceptable!
I just don't want to take any chances!
AVEDA has great products for maintaining strong healthy hair.
I have a video with healthy hair tips!
Thank you!!
