About the airbag light. Just remove the lightbulb. No bulb no airbag light.
DDHEE
Whoever tuned the 720gtr, they can most likely tune-out/code-out the airbag code..
Sounds like you should’ve bought a Dodge. He won’t have these expensive problems.
I would call Tavarish and Gintani to help finish the build and advice. Sell the hummer. Try to borrow the missing body panels.
The seat coding thing is what Louis Rossman and many others are fighting for which is the "right to repair". Why is it when I buy a car and buy another set of seats of the same car I still have to "code" them into the ECU in order for it to work properly and not give errors. Of course the coding and special coding tools all have to be done by mclaren which won't share any of the knowledge or tools. The crazy thing is that the whole car is done this way like the guy says at 10:07. What happens when eventually mclaren discontinues the 720 and all the tools and special coding tools? At that point any damage can total the car bacause no one can repair it anymore, and the whole thing has to be scrapped because even the good parts cannot be reused for other cars since they have to be coded...all while companies preach about being green and sustainable. Mclaren and others, do better.

They don't like to collaborate because then they don't get 100% of the attention of the viewers. They're afraid viewers will switch to the channel repairing the car. Stradman is the same way. Freddie offered to fix his Lambo.
They have already quit making them .. the replacement is the 750
Hi great comment. LR is a great man.
We all need to fight for the right to repair!
If only there was a youtuber out there that can help build this car without McLaren helping..... If he can build a P1 he can probably figure out the 720!

That McLaren dealership is legit! Honestly massive respect to everyone involved in the DDE team and McLaren. Seriously wish I had that type of professionalism where I am. ❤️
they are all mostly like this. They all try and help when you have a $400K car.
Not sure if it will be an option for you guys, but 2 options I've always used in the same scenario. 1. insert a 3.2ohm resistor into the factory plug that the original seat would have plugged into. This will trick the ECU into thinking the airbag is still connected. 2. take the dashboard cluster apart and solder a jumper wire between the Air bag light and the engine management light, then the air bag light wil illuminate with the ignition turned on, and go out when the car is turned on, as it should do. Both are very very cheap to do. Good luck.
Exactly what I was thinking… theres no point in buying new seats
Yeah just fake it out. Absolutely!
I knew there was a way to trick the ECU but didn't have a clue how to do it. I reckon the resister option would be the best and probably be able to do themselves.
2 resistors for less than $1 and 5 minutes work problem solved.
I was thinking this same thing. Worked like charm swapping out the stock GTR seats.
Fair play to the guys at the McLaren dealer for trying to find solutions and thinking out of the box.
They're right on track too, they're implying "hey guys, get these cheap seats to pass inspection, then whatever you do is up to you!" Dave has main character energy in this one, love seing him step for Damon and the channel 🤌🏻🔥🔥
As stressful as all these videos are for Damon and Dave. They are very interesting and give a lot of insight into how much work actually goes into one of these cars.
Most of the stress is created because two 50 year old men started this page on wraps and rims. They don’t know or understand the majority about their cars or how they work. That being said they did things that screw them over down the line and drive the costs through the roof. They know their the majority of the channels viewers aren’t old enough to drive and are focused on all the wrong stuff. The only reason I’m watching this video now is because of Mike to see how the shop and a steady mechanic might change things. Without the mechanic and technical aspects this channel is a male soap opera for 13year olds. Think about it always some kind of drama and self inflicted deadlines. It’s the old reality show formula mix fake drama with deadlines.

Yeah an air bag only basically completes a circuit at a set resistance, you can get a resistor to go into the airbag plug to trick the system
That's what I used to do on my audis
Yes!! Just get the same OHM, and you will be good 🤣🤣 why do they make its a big problem🤣
Not quite so simple. The airbags are detected by the control module on the seat, and its the signal from the module that is missing.
You could actually quite simply trick the cars CANBus using can gateways. Use them to spit out the correct can values and airbag ID onto the bus and problem solved.
@@jacobchapman2789 that only works if you know the correct values to send
You could check the ohms on the cables going to the seats and put the correct resistor in the conection. I have done this when changing steering wheels that have had air bags to remove the light.
Yes. Old trick shady car resellers used to fool ecu. One time had a car which did not have any airbags and still no airbag light was present bevause of resistors
Use a resistor to bypass/confuse the system if you want to put the seats back in unless you can see/do this before the inspection
This is the best solution, I have a 23 brz and the only way to get rid of airbag lights with aftermarket seats was to use a resistor, a lot of new cars are impossible to code out airbag lights
Unfortunately this wouldn’t work in this car. It is not only looking for the resistance, but the unique code of the specific seat.
@@bryce7720 maybe they can rig a pi chip to do both lmao
Friendly tip on every vehicle, just put on a resistor on the plug for the airbag and it will clear the light on its own
You would have to know the precise resistance value. I have done this on several vehicles and sometimes that value is not easily available. But yeah that would do it for sure.
Airbag light measures resistance as I’m sure Mike knows. Get the right resistance on some resistors and the light will go out
Yes, thats the American way, sell a car fraudulently with missing airbags!
Did you even watch the video? The airbags need to get programmed into the ecu for the light to go out. This isn't a hardware issue. It is a software issue. A hardware issue wouldn't cause such a headache. You can't fool the ecu if it actually tries to communicate with the seats to verify they are the correct ones. And only mclaren could reprogram new seats into the ecu. Which means you can't even buy used ones.
@@tobiasl.726 eh... tiny is correct... The ECU and really its the crash computer needs to see the airbags in seats. This is done by reading resistance on the airbag plug. This fixes the light on seat swaps (anyone that tracks a car and swaps in a seat for safety knows).
The "coding" is just a resistance reading range it allows. They don't have a MCU inside the seats... The largest issue is figuring out how to clear the crash computer; again not impossible for any given hardware engineer.
So yes... you can hack them and yes, the American way is to be able fix stuff you purchased (actually a law under right to repair)
I love that this company has ONE purpose and, that ONE purpose is to make Damon smile!😂 😂

Exactly. It’s fake drama for the views. I think they said Alex did it the first time. He can do it again.
That’s exactly what I was thinking
Its a safety inspection they will check for the airbags in the seat. Since on the manufacturers book it’ll say theres air bag seats.
And they could take it to any Indy to replace the suspension lines. In SoCal there are tons of shops
@bryan4723 Doubt a safety inspector knows the difference between a Senna seat and a 720 seat. If the light isn't on, he's not dissecting a car to make sure airbags are actually in there.
You can code it out the airbag fault from the Senna seats easily from an aftermarket tuner by switching the code to manual seats.
Don't McLaren need to turn the light off as it's hard coded into the ecu?
@@johnnycoolnessno. Everyone will tell you yes bc they don't know what they're talking about. But no, they don't. With the right software, you can code out anything.
@@johnnycoolness im sure uncle ray2 or guy from SRauto knows the trick since they are the once change the seat in the first place, he just cant say it in front of camera, it could create issue to mclaren.
You can meter out the air bags on a stock set of seats and get the value of the resistance and buy a resistor to get rid of the light on the dash.
Sounds like you need to go take a drive over to Alex and have him code that light out
Do u think he can do that?
@@itz.xander.h0859 I'm sure he can. I know a few guys that can code anything out, including milage reductions. Not saying any of that is the right thing to do, but on a total loss vehicle that you own, I would. I coded out my seatbelt light after changing my seats with harnesses with my last leased car.
the mclaren dealership itself can do it but they really need to fix it by switching to a 720 seats. you cant just clear that kind of code when it got to an accident i think
We used to put a "relay" on the airbag wire and let the car know that the airbag was connect it costs around 10$ probably this can do the trick.
Coding it with that Autel scan tool should be possible, if you got a pair of used seats. Essentially all that would be happening it swapping the VIN number inside the module telling the main DME and other modules that it belongs in that car.
Or could keep it really simple and add some resistors in the harness where the seat plugs in which could also turn the light off. Really common to do when installing aftermarket seats.
Better hit up Alex and see if he can work some ECU wizardry
Love how you guys say you love each other thats real brothers 💪🏾 i tell all the homies i love them anything could happen at anytime
Love the relationship you guys have with the dealership's 😂😂 its brilliant what they can do for you and the banter too
Have Mc'Medics replace the accumulators, they did them for me and many people I know. There also a quarter price of the dealerships. The airbag lamps can be tuned out as well or readiness monitors can be tuned to ON. I'm sure Alex Gintani can help with this
This is the trouble with companies nowadays they make it so hard for you to do anything yourself and then make the parts so complicated I've just read one of the comments below mentioning Louis Rossman and his absolutely spot on i watching him as well
All you need is a few 2.5OhM resistors. There will be yellow wiring for the airbags. Make a connector where you put the resistor instead of the seats connector, and the system will think there is a airbag present. Light will go off.
I was gonna suggest this lol and am sure the high end diagnostic,s can turn on and off manufacturers functions, am sure gintini can do this🤔
It's going to be more than this on a seat that has it's own module. You can probably trick the ECU with resistors indefinitely once the seat is coded but not before.
@@dcsteve7869
Im not gonna start a discussion here, but the airbag and body modules are on separate networks, the problem is the airbag light, and for that you would only need to trick the airbag system. Without comparing or saying anything with 100% confidence, I have done the same in high end BMWs without any issues, at least here in Norway / Europe where I live it's a part solution for the problem.... But then again, they need to make content for us viewers haha 😂.
As others have mentioned just try the $0.10 resistor method first which should do the job before spending $10k on a set of seats. That or just make a deal to rent the seats from the dealership for a week or so that you will need them and then just swap the senna seats back in after car week.
that doesn't create UA-cam drama though.
Or just clear the code not rocket science

tavarish cant fix half the shit without the dealers help. And VC-tuned? They know zero about mclarens.
I guess Dave didnt listen to the Dealership guy. IF he has take off seats in stock they can code it to the car. Have McChicken code the new seats then have it inspected then swap seats out back to Senna seats

it's really awesome the Maclaren dealership has fixed the suspension, that they did not black list you and they are even willing to work with you to get it back on the road..... :)
I was wondering Mike, if you get some sheets of aluminum whether you cannot just cut out some of the more flatter pieces with that laser cutter and then paint it with some high temp black?
As for the seats thing, that sucks? Maybe they haven't yet shipped it over to China.... also, you have to remember, that the guy who bought the seats may be facing the same issue as you because they will have to code those seats to their car and Maclaren may not approve it - so then it's a total loss for them too..... So maybe if Maclaren knows that you guys want your seats back, they won't approve that coding on the guys that bought the seats? Then it's in their best interest to sell it back to you and try and recover some of the costs.....
Man even if the 720 can't get to monteray I hope you guys can meet the right people from mclaren there and have them help you with coding the airbag light out for my favorite build on the channel of all time 🤞🤞🤞

These new video are doing a really good job of catching the stress of building a car. I’m stressed for DDE!
If your actually in a situation reach out, we can code SRS with a small application patch, or we can kill the error path to this DTC (ABS would still be 100% functionally the same as right right now) they are multistage airbags from factory, i have track prepared several McLaren's with aftermarket seats.
I think you guys either a) need to get a hold of the shop that put the senna seats in and coded them the first time to do it again on the downlow or b) call alex from gintani and see if he can tickle the keyboard in a way to make the airbag light disappear from view and do that on the downlow.

For those who are struggling to understand the coding of the seats to the vehicle, every module for a vehicle like this is VIN locked for various reasons (one big reason is to prevent theft and resale of components, think chop shops). When you replace a module in a vehicle, that module must be adapted to the vehicle and coded in using (usually) factory scan tools so that the rest of the modules recognize the new one and are programmed to communicate with the new module and forget the old one; during the adaptation process component protection will also be disabled. Component protection basically keeps a module in a deactivated state so that it does not get damaged during transportation process (remember, components are usually coming from overseas and must go through customs and get x-rayed, etc), as well as to prevent anyone from being able to take a stolen module and sell it. So while it may seem like McLaren does this to force you to take your vehicle to the dealership, it is actually done by many manufacturers for much more technical reasons than you would really consider as an average person.

You should always keep your spare parts for moments like this especially with expensive csrs
As a former but still certified Canadian service tech in Ontario, for a vehicle to be recertified and branded rebuilt, it must pass a vehicle safety inspection in the province it is being registered in. An airbag light will NOT fail for inspection. Airbags are, and to my knowledge, still are considered secondary safety systems. The inspection requires that seat belts and retractors be in good working condition and not damaged. Belts must not be stretched or physically damaged. Retractors must lock in a collision and retract when the belt is released. The same goes for ABS. Only the main braking system is inspected and ABS only fails if the system interferes with braking operation, such as premature ABS activation when coming to a stop and extending stopping distance due to a damaged ABS reluctor dropping out at slow speeds.
Man what a pain in the ass.. I highly highly doubt they're gonna be able to get this done for car week.. waiting for parts alone could take weeks or months.. but fingers crossed 🤞 and hopefully nothing major is damaged with the white smoke and coolant system.

I have just watched a video on how to change Mclaren seats over and also another one on how to change the accumulators on a 720s and bleed the system. Both on youtube. The seats have a sensor box under them which needs swapping over to the replacement seat, then no recoding is required at all. So if that guy who bought the 720 seats still will have the original sensor boxes he wouldnt have needed those anyway, he could send just those back and then they get attached, screwed to the underside of the Senna seats. You don't need the compete seats at all. Fingers crossed.
Have you tried completing the circuit for the seats so that the lights goes off....you may have to put a resistor .....

Gently place the tip of the bat on the service manager's desk advise him it's in his best interest to repair the vehicle right there and then. That's how things get done !
Seeing the effort involved is insane
Just buy the ecu:s from the seats and plug them in. Airbags are easy to simulate on them. (on normal cars)
Maybe hit up V-Tuned, he rebuilt his 720 and might have some extra parts or possibly know how to get the airbag coded out, potentially borrow his seats. I know there’s independent repair facilities that have found workarounds or have the correct software to get around these issues.
You can code them without McLaren or you can use a resistor to bypass the airbag light.
*** Have Gintani code out the airbag seats... *OR* see if you can buy a set of 720S seats used, and have them coded.. those would be the cheapest options.. Gintani can code it out using resistors..
