Using Milorganite to Apply Epsom Salt to your lawn
Вставка

- When you do a soil test sometimes you need to apply micronutrients or macronutrients to the soil. And sometimes it's at such a small rate that is a bit difficult to spread out evenly. Mixing the nutrient with Milorganite is a great way to ensure even coverage.

Looks pretty easy..going to use today before rains begin. Thank. 😊
Another thing worth mentioning is that grass takes up more magnesium toward the end of the growing season than at the start of the growing season, so a fall application of epsom salt, is better targeted to when your lawn will actually utilize it. Good targeting is important with something like epsom salt because of how fast it dissolves and leeches through the soil below the root zone.
Great tip! Thanks
Thank you!
Nice quick video, subbed.
Your camera is phenomenal! Which camera did you use?
Just got my 1st bg. of Milo today. I just hope it's better than Vigoro.
Milorganite Master.....!
Have areator shoes 👞 for years had to retroe them many times especially to shore up tines with washers I like them does good especially weed and feed had good looking lawn last year but missed fertilizer this time to hot now. You know anything about rain barrel irrigation.let me know thanks
I applied milorganite at my mother in laws this season a week after they got their sewer main replaced. They thought there was another leak and I had to explain! :)
hahaha the wife came home and thought I let the boys diapers get bad, but then I pointed out the neighbors getting their septic pumped. I was like CMON even I can smell that!

Man, I need some to soak my feet at the end of the day! lol That's very interesting great to know! thanks
+Bizzy Beez lawn-n-landscape I'd skip the milorganite before you soak your feet =P
The thing about epsom salt is that it readily dissolves in water, which means that every time it rains, a lot of your epsom salt is going to either leech through the soil or be lost as run off before your lawn and garden plants get a chance to utilize the magnesium in it. I do use epsom salt to address a magnesium deficiency in my garden soil, but I apply it in very small quantities to maximize how much is actually taken up by my plants and minimize how much gets lots through leeching and runoff.
I though winter feed had some epsom salt already in it. Yes??/ No??
+Paul Rock epsom salt is magnesium I dont know of any fert that has it in it
Makes sense to dissolve the epsom salt with water in an empty prayer and water with it only when you need it.
What setting did you use?
Can we use on centipede grass?
What do set the spreader at ???
What setting on drop spreader?
So I got a soil test. Mg was low at 15ppm. How much to apply per 1000sq. ft?
Also low in: Potassium (9.5ppm), Na (1.44ppm), Zn (0.05ppm), Cu (0.03ppm), Boron (0.06ppm)
Love your tasty content my name is
e the real and my question to you is what if I don't have anything except for Epsom salt and a fish fertilizer that's liquid base what do you recommend let me clarify its fish and guano fertilizer and I'm using that on the lawn with Epsom salt
grind milagomite in a blender it very very fine powder , disolve epsom salt, mix the two together, use a garden hose end sprayer.
Tell me something, is it safe to spread Epsom salt and humid acid granules together via rotary spreader? If not, can I use the hand held spreader to spread? Just looking for a way to spread since I don’t have milorganite and may be spreading it stand-alone is just too fine. My other question below which you did not answer is if Epsom salt can be spread via miracle gro garden feeder and the rate of application/1000 ft pls?
I'd like to see a video of before and after (2 week or so) of the effect of using Epsom salt on a lawn.
Epsom salt is to raise the magnesium level in the soil so you wouldn't see a drastic difference in two weeks.
@@GrassDaddy Thanks for the reply. Maybe longer then, since Mg is needed for chlorophyll production I was interested in seeing how much it greens up the lawn, etc.
I apologize if you have already show or answered, but I am going to hit my 30 day old new seeded lawn with some straight Kentucky blue grass in the fall. Would it be okay to mix in the same spreader that seed with milo and apply at same time?
You could but it might come out uneven.
When I was a kid, my dad was in the Navy and would get milorganite from the base waste treatment plant. It had to be pulverized some to use in a spreader. It worked great. Our lawn was almost a blue/green, and very lush. A neighbor from down the street called and asked what he was using, and he told her. She then said "but it doesn't smell". He responded with "It's from the officers". Her husband had earned his commission from enlisted. She hung up on my dad, then later figured he was kidding, as he was going after his commission as well.
Why not put Epsom salt via garden feeder?
I just had to dig up all my dead grass due to my neighbor having fungus. Right now I have no grass but will be laying more down satruday morning. Any advice on how I should apply fungicide, fertilizer, milorganite and epsom salt? Your help would be great.
+Itz Reece fungicide the key is to find out what disease it was and get the fungicide best for it. Most will label for everything but they vary in effectiveness for each disease.
can you dissolve it and spray with hose sprayer
I'm not sure.. It's a LOT of salt to be trying to dissolve though.
Sounds like a Logan Labs test and a ATY Rx.! 😉
yessir!
What do you have your spreader set on?
branden burks for this I have it set to 11, I found one bag across the whole lawn is 11 so its easy to mix the nutrients I need to apply with it and just go. but when I'm applying for fertilizing I open it all the way.
What setting in Scott’s hand held spreader for epsom salt?
3
The grass is a dark green know before you start
How do you measure how much to put down?
SwagSubscriber I needed to apply 2lbs per k, and I was doing 5k. the bag was 19lbs so I just did half a bag
What about timing when to do it will it hurt lawn when it very hot
Nope, milorganite is fine anytime
I have burned with corn gluten though.
GrassDaddy, Where in the Ocean State are you?
John Egan I don't get specific in public;)
no Problem, I am also from little Rhody and recognized the plate
Do you always need epsome salt when u milorganite when do you water
No, my soil test showed the soil needed the epsom salt for magnesium deficiency
hey I got a tee as well. did you enter the LCN contest
Ryan Basdeo I'm not sure if it was the same thing or not someone posted a link in a forum
I bought milorganite and put it down today for the first time in my sad ugly yard. You never told me how stinky it was haha. My husband was like why does it smell like poop out here LOL. Then I explained what it was. Idk why I thought it wouldn't smell but I did. I feel betrayed now 😂😂😂 in all seriousness though thanks for the Tips and if you're ever in NC I'll pay you money to fix my ugly lawn 😂😂
+Leslie Lazarus hahaha yeah my friend felt the same way he still talks about it =P
I've never noticed any smell from milorganite
I always wait for the weather report. If it's going to rain 2 days in a row, I'll put it down the day before. It will only smell when you put it down and ever so slightly after 2 days of rain. I also use 3 times what it says on the bag, for my first Miloganite application of the year.
I put mine down and it stayed smelling like a swamp for maybe two weeks. After a rain when it was humid was when it was the worse
Does not smell like poop at all
Im no turf specialist but i think the milorg should be watered in after spreading or right before a rain. Epsom salt dissolves in water so wetting the mixture does nothing but make a clogged mess in a spreader. The milorg and salt have to break down to be absorbed not stuck too the grass! Smh!!!
So might not want to comment if you aren't.. milorganite doesn't have to be watered in and the salt sticks to the milorganite it doesn't dissolve.
I put epsom salt in my fertilizer and it got very WET and I barely got it all out of the spreader. Will NOT do that again.
Yeah you only need a small amount of moisture to get it to stick
Is malorganite a chemical? I want something organic.
can i use epsom salt as a fertillizer while seeding my lawn?
No, Epsom salt has no NPK value, it is only providing a micronutrient. The new grass should get some starter fertilizer
We can't get Milwaukee's poop here in the UK , Shame
Gixer750pilot They no longer ship to Canada either.
Gixer750pilot
More municipalities need to make it themselves. Not like shit is a regional thing.
Gixer750pilot
Was that a burn?
aguyandhiscomputer NJ and MA make it. they used to pay landfills now they profit off it!
Grass Daddy
Glad other places are doing it. Anything we can reuse is a good thing.
Where can you get the minorganite
Walmart
where do I find milorganite can't find anywhere IN.
David Wilson Yes you can.. Wal-Mart carrys it. 13.99 a bag and 9.99 a bag at rural king BUT you gotta get your supply early.. Rural King had a full pallet.. I went to buy some the week of memorial day and it was gone.... all of it!!
found some
David Wilson Menards
Claude Crawford I found some thanks
The water will activate the poop monsters
I know this video is very old, but isn't salt bad for the lawn? I know your mixing it with milorganite but why are you putting down salt
Epsom salt not just any salt. It brings up the magnesium levels in the soil.
you need a concrete mixer
lol that'd be a bit overkill =P
Why the salt?
+leonard payne epsom salt is for adding magnesium to the soil, my soil is low
i grind up 10 dollar bills and stir in milorganite you can use 5 dollar bills but 10 seem to make it much greener--then i mix 4 beers and a half pint of bourbon--place spreader on high ofcourse and then drink the mix--my yard looks like shit but--i dont care--i do this 4 times a month
20s look better
Where did you get such a big bad of Epsom Salt?
Andrew Burris amazon
Amazon Prime?
+Andrew Burris yes! ain't got time for non prime haha
My local feed and grain mill has 25lb bags
oh nice I'm gonna have to check that out!
I don't think it is possible to burn with Milorganite.
John Lindborg I dont think so either. I dropped a pile on the baby grass and it didnt burn, just got super dark!
I used to work for a golf course and they used to use it for fertilizing the rough. They had a big wagon (think farm). In the spring there was a small dark green spot. The greenskeeper said it was spill from the wagon.
+John Lindborg hehe nice!
Thanks for the info Moon Pie.
What happened to the happy music??? lol
hahaha you win!! I was wondering if anyone would notice. I must have been in a rush when I edited it and forgot =P
lol, It's almost not the same without it! That's your trademark!
Tommy Peppers Topics lol its what's going on in my head (minus the voices!) =P
HOW does one spread ONE gallon of this mixture over ONE acre, 43,560 square feet ????? What is the real coverage per gallon??????
I'm not sure where you get those numbers/measurements from. BUT if you are trying to apply one gallon of something over an acre, you'd be applying about 3oz per k.
These amounts were given on the original video by Dr. William Mount I saw about 10 months ago. I checked it again this a.m. and nothing changed, ((ONE gallon per acre)). I asked for clarification from Dr. Mount 10 months ago, then again 7 months ago and NO response. ..." The Cure for Lawn Diseases" is the video/s title.
Thom V ah I'm not familiar with his recommendations.
Doesnt the fert have Magnesium. Heck the only thing that fert is.. is Micro Nutrients. 5-0-0 Which the website said what is in it.. LOL
Torpedomtb my soil test revealed the need for magnesium. Ive also used milorganite to apply potassium - the supply store only had it in powder form for irrigation delivery. mixing it with the milorganite made application possible.
You can use regular table salt too, and it's cheaper than Epsom salt.
Get out of the camera dude you're scaring me.
