- Jeff compares rear sprocket weights and service lives. There are a ton of sprocket options available - some are made out of aluminum alloy, chromoly steel, high carbon steel, and dual compounds. We want to make sure you know what you are getting!

Wow! I’m totally surprised on how heavy the twin metal sprockets are. I have been using them but haven’t weighed them out. I will now! Thank you for sharing this information!!😎👍🏻
Great video, thank you! PLEASE do a video comparing the TBI-xc versus TBI-xcw.
It’s so hard to buy a bike and your knowledge and opinion is so helpful! Thanks, Jeff
Hello:
Sorry, I won't be making that video. If you are a trail rider, buy the W. If you are Ricky Racer, buy the XC.
I'll be quite honest and say that I went for the dirt tricks sprocket due to looks - and perceived quality . I've been to beach races where you could hear who was running an alloy sprocket when the teeth wore down the chain would 'snap' around them.
I normally run DDC or Dirt Tricks. I don't use aluminum cause they won't even last as long as a chain. That is if you have a good o ring chain.
70-80h on aluminum is normal with oring chain.
That is what I use @@johnfryman4428
I’m into keeping my bike light, but I favor keeping my wallet heavy.
The JT is lighter than a standard steel sprocket, but heavier than the aluminum. Only 3 ounces more than the Dirt Tricks. That $80 definitely increases wallet traction.
Thank you Jeff for all you do! But for myself i'm not worried about a pound. I would rather have the longer lasting sprockets because you also replace the chain as well im sure which really adds up costs. I have lost 27 pounds lately so if you really want to go that much faster and worried about 1 pound put the fork down!
We all need to push away from the dinner table more often and put the fork down.
I run the iron man/doet tricks for amazing durability. But I always tell guys a a standard steel sprocket for 30 bucks will long out last a aluminum one , just not as light and sexey as the iron man.
Also are you sure the two alumiunum sprockets are the same alloy, because I can tell you the orange anodized junk sprockets are a low grade aluminm whereas the high grade 7075 sprockets actually have similar wear to steel.
Yes, aluminum sprockets can live as long as chains(it usually recommended to replace chain every 100h). But as I know even cheapest chinese sprockets are made of 7075
Hello:
All of the alloy sprockets we sell are made from 7075, the industry standard.
Well, obviously, the Renthal sprocket is going to be the lightest, because it is much smaller than the other sprockets
Hello:
It looks like the Renthal is smaller but it is actually larger. The Renthal is 48T, and the alloy Sunstar is 45T.
@@slaverace1are you sure it is 520 sprocket, because it looks like 428?
Jeff why didn't you measure the stock supersprox sprocket?
Hello:
The stock sprocket is not Supersprox.
Dirt Tricks Zirconium for life!
Good choice.
I like the SuperSprox. Weight is not a consideration.
Whatever rocks your boat works for me.
Best one isn’t on there. Renthal twin ring
Hello:
The Twin Ring is a great product but no better than others we sell, but if works well for you, use it.
