    I'm here because I saved a beautiful old lighter in 1987 from a junk car, it was in some water,
    Now after 34 years I'm going to nickel plate it and need to completely disassemble it to get perfect results.

    Thanks I just took apart my Queen Anne 1949 patent. Blue Magic Polish works great! Its an ammonia paste. Then I ultrasonic cleaned the parts. I had to brass brush the striker wheel to remove minor oxidation. Using 2 flints made it strike every time despite the tired spring. I didn't wanna use the original wick so I wanted to see this first. Thanks!

    At 11:01 you clicked that lighter over that pile of wadding. My heart about stopped figuring I was about to see you set fuel-soaked wadding on fire from a stray spark. Taking out the flint before you do any of this would be a great idea. IMO

    I have another vintage lighter. I'm from Las Vegas, and this is a Caesars Palace lighter from about when they opened, in 1966. It's a slim cylindrical, very feminine lighter. This was super helpful. Thank you! I put the wick in, replaced the cotton, and added new flint in it (after making sure no old ones were stuck in it), added lighter fluid and it still won’t spark or light. My guess is the spark wheel mechanism isn’t put on correctly since when I took the screw out at the beginning it disassembled and I couldn’t figure out exactly how it went back together. I tried my best to figure it out by looking back in this video but it was hard to tell from the camera angle what tiny part went in what order. Does the order/direction of the spark wheel matter? Or do you have any suggestions on what could be causing this issue?

    Have you made a video for trouble shooting why a Queen Anne won't light? It has fluid, a wick, and a new flint. I'm not sure if changing the wick will help this. I used WD40 because when you pressed it, it wouldn't open all the way. Now it does all that properly...just won't light. It sparks sometimes. I keep cleaning with a cotton swab and a pipe cleaner to make sure the WD40 hasn't caused this. But just don't really know what's wrong. I have a Crown that works great and use it daily. Thanks in advance!

    • @DependableFlame
      @DependableFlame  3 роки тому +2

      The WD-40 will inhibit flame and spark. If the wick is contaminated it may need replaced or possibly can be pulled up with a pair of pliers and snipped off. You'll need to take the mechanism apart and soak it in alcohol or some other solvent to get the oil off. This video should help you get it back together:
      ua-cam.com/video/NR5a0b7rnGs/v-deo.html
      I also have a video to help you rewick it if you need that.✌️

    I have a rowenta bridge table lighter which I had to change a wick with. It was similar to this one, where you have to remove the cotton through a rather small hole. I did manage to change the wick, but when I put the cotton back in the tank, the entire load of wadding didn't fit, I had stuffed only about 75% of the entire cotton wadding I pulled out.
    Do you have to put them all back in? The rowenta works just fine, but the thought of it just bugs me.

    • @DependableFlame

    • @DependableFlame
      @DependableFlame  5 місяців тому

      No, I don’t even worry about it. Sometimes you just got to know that the lighter is going to drink a lot of fuel because if petrol leaks around an unsealed screw then it’s either under wadded or over filled so the only real issue is the rate of evaporation.😜✌️

      Assuming it is not contaminated with anything, you can but the old fibers breakdown over time and may not absorb as well.✌️

    I got an Evans table lighter and pulled out the cotton wadding and discovered most of the chamber was filled with sawdust. Wtf? Is replacing the wick on this the same idea? Will I need to get the sawdust out before I feed the wick through?

    • @DependableFlame

      Yes, you can just replace the sawdust with cotton or some other absorbent material.✌️

      I like to leave it as long as possible provided it doesn't bunch up under the closed snuffer. I also like to spread out the top of the wick which aids ignition.✌️

      Oh ya, shouldn't be any problem. I have quit cutting on the older ones because of asbestos concerns but the vast majority will still work as long as they haven't obviously been contaminated with something.✌️
