Ranking Every Pokémon Generation from Worst to Best

- Опубліковано 13 чер 2022
- Each Pokémon generation has it's own unique flavor, with the regions and new Pokémon being the forefront, but at the same time your perception of a generation can sometimes come from outside materials such as the cards, animated properties, or even spin-off games! So let's see which generations of Pokémon hold up better and which ones might have diminished over time...

"People only rank Gen 1 so high because it was their first Pokemon game."
"So anyway, #1 is Gen 4, my first Pokemon game."
It is kind of funny, but I think it's a solid argument at least. I'm old enough that I played gen 1 in 1998 and I'd still rank gen 4 as my overall favorite. Platinum and the gen 2 remakes were such wonderful experiences
for me gen 1 and 2 are the worst
the only reason people rank them so high up
is because of nostalgia and because they're the first one
why would you play red and blue instead of fire red and leaf green?
why would you play crystal instead of the remakes?
they improved everything from the original game
gen 1 movepool is really bad
and the special and physical split being in the pokemon types really wasn't good
@@srsrerror7761 "why would you play red and blue instead of fire red and leaf "
I recently started playing FireRed, but then dropped it and I'm now playing Red.
Why?
Because completing the Pokedex in Gen 3 is a disgusting joke.
And I like Pokemon Stadium integration.
@@randomname5341 but can't you complete the kanto pokedex in frlg? or you're saying about the national pokedex?
i didn't have a lot o problems to complete the kanto pokedex
@@srsrerror7761 You can't complete Kanto because of Mew. But let's say you use cheats to unlock the Mew event in an emulator. Said event happens in... Pokemon Emerald. Emerald, by the way, requires you to trade with *both* Ruby and Saphire to get the *Regional Pokedex*.
But National Pokedex is where things get incredibly silly in that generation, it's the worst of them all in this aspect. In 2nd gen, however, it's possible to complete carrying over from the 1st gen (and Celebi is now available through the Virtual Console release - otherwise it's just a matter of unlocking the event through an emulator while playing Pokemon Crystal).
In defense of the gen 1 sprite art, I believe the art was done *after* the sprite art. Sugimori was tasked with taking these characters to life and unifying the designs
Correct!
Yes
Yeah, most of the Yellow sprites look so much better.
the reason is, the gameboy color was about to be released in 6 months and he wanted to make a game and he was made fun of that he would not be able to make it in 6 months, and that was gen 1.
I've just accepted that I'm not gonna agree with this list when my favorite Gens are at the bottom, lol. I personally love Gen 3 and Gen 5.
And for me gen 7 is the wirst by faaaar
And for me gen 7 is the wirst by faaaar
Same
Gen 4 is better stay mad
@@theeeveesquadd1370 gen 4 could've been better if it wasn't so. dang. SLOW
While I'd argue the franchise has never had an objectively bad entry, Gens III-V were the golden era for me. Great side games, Great remakes of earlier generations and arguably the best standalone region being Unova.
I say so too plus the Battle Frontier.
Although I think the Fairy type was needed desperately.
Sword and shield are objectively bad
Silence thy defamatory whims you vile cur!
@@yat282 internet hivemind much?
@@LasagaMan No, just a fan of Pokemon. If you enjoy Pokemon as a whole, the low quality of sword and shield are self evident, and you'd have to either be lying or deliberately obtuse to say anything else.
The original Unova Black/White games are still the best in my opinion, by only having brand new Pokémon. Not only that, but the Bug type Pokémon got powerful and scary
I just recently replayed Black and black 2 and I've got to agree.
While x was my first, Unova is such a cool region and I think it has the best story in the series, and I personally find the ds graphics to be quite cool
@@michaelfryers1914 I think most people hate Gen 5 as a whole just because of the anime based on Unova. I completely understand, but that should not be the only reason
i did enjoy HAVING to use an entirely new team, it was pretty sweet and we had some great choices too, and as someone who likes Bug Types, i was so happy we got some great pokemon to buff the roster.
@@michaelfryers1914 saying it has the best is not something to be praised since main line pokemon games don't have good stories, like, who the main line series for their stories?
@@impopularmano3394 usually I'd agree with that point, but I feel like the stories in both Sinnoh and Unova were actually very enjoyable.
I usually don't pay much attention to the stories and just play the game, but something sat with me when I black and Platinum again thar left a much better impression than they had before, and especially over the other games
Gen VII also introduced regional variants, which is a great addition to world of Pokémon in my opinion
Gen 5 is the worst? Big F
Dang.. Gen 5 gets too much hate. B2&W2 gets the more praise only because of the older mons being included that go round. Had interesting mechanics: seasons, rotation battles, victory road's design, the story.
Of course, it has some problems as well.
Agreed. Gen 5 is easily second best behind only gen 4.
Weather Wars...
One of the problems being an unskippable Pokestar Studios tutorial. It gets _really_ annoying on repeat playthroughs.
Lmao you’ve seen one vid saying gen 5 is the worst and you’re already saying "buhu gen 5 gets too much hate" like don’t you see that it’s arguably the most popular gen rn, so many people can be seen in just UA-cam comments or Reddit praising gen 5 to no end and many vids glorify BW for having the best story and BW2 for being the arguably best pokemon games. I myself absolutely love gen 5, it’s my favorite but we need to stop acting like it’s 2012 where saying you liked it would get you mocked, these times are (thankfully) over
@@robertlupa8273 that 2min dialogue and quick equip? Honestly never did that. I did the tutorial of talking and equipped my mom with shades. That was about it.
While i completely disagree with your rankings, I think you did a great job of explaining all of the good stuff that came with each generation and why you put them where you did
Thank you, that was all I was trying to get across.
I just can’t explain the feeling of hearing the Sinnoh music , or going back to Kanto and battle Red. I always go back and play Gen IV , absolute best and most nostalgic era
My favourites are 3 and 4. Love those 2 gens.
Look forward to your videos every Tuesday, thank you for the great content
Never thought I’d say someone’s opinion is wrong, but here we are
HG and SS will always be my favorite game. Just The fact that you can travel to two regions and have the first Pokémon in your party follow you, you couldn’t go wrong with it.
Swsh nose-dived, so BDSP could walk (and trip on its own shoelaces), so PLA could run.
So PLA could *LIE!!!*
I kinda liked SWSH a lot though
@@raymondveritas5255 I do too but, you gotta admit these games are kind of bland/mid compared to the previous and future generations.
@@Roastatrice they deliberately ruin gen 4 remakes so the could make a quick buck and build hype toward gen 5 remakes. Hints why the immediately moves toward gen 9 to get pokemon fans to reserve the game 6 months before it drops. If gen 9 crash they gone use gen 5 remakes to bring back the fans they lost. Not ranting stating facts on what pokemon got plan.
As someone who started out with Pokémon Yellow and somehow skipped Gen 2, I’m glad that Soul Silver gave me a second chance to explore the Johto-Region properly. And to revisit Kanto in the Gen 4 Format.
That's what the remakes are good for!
@sus fungus I think frlg were the best versions of gen 1.
Gen 4 is no.1 for me.
Physical special split, ball capsule, sinnoh grand underground, day night cycle return, pokecatch, sound recorder and COOL POKEMON DESIGN WITH GREAT CONCEPT. 🥺
The grand underground is a gen 8 mechanic and sure gen 4 has some nice stuff but given it only has 1 main line game I'd say it shouldn't be ranked that high
wasnt physical special split gen 2??
@@icyy4854 no not even close it was gen 4
@@lamotou4banana383 What do you mean by only 1 mainline game in gen 4? What about Platinum which greatly improved on DP and gen 2 remake?

i feel sorry for you that you love garbages
Im glad to see some love for my favorite Gen, Gen VII and Gen VI which usually gets a lot of hate
Underrated Gens for sure, I think maybe they'll gain appreciation in due time...
I was a little suprised at how low gen 5 is, I love both games, and while bw has its flaws, bw2 is almost the perfect pokemon game for me. Love to see other opinions though! This is my list:
8. Gen 8
7. Gen 1
6. Gen 6
5. Gen 2
4. Gen 7
3. Gen 3
2. Gen 4
1. Gen 5
This guy has a weird Taste never saw such a Ranking...
Personally, I would swap gens 2 and 7 but that's my ranking pretty much.
@@soaringraven0 fair, i like them almost the same, just i like gen 7 pokemon more overall
i was surprised gen 1 and 2 werent at the bottom. those games are boring for many reasons. especially gen 1
I respect your list, for me it's a bit different:
1. Gen 7
2. Gen 4
3. Gen 5
4. Gen 8
5. Gen 3
6. Gen 2
7. Gen 1
8. Gen 6
I wish I could like this video more than once! Great video!
Really love the thought and consideration that went into this. I must say, when you were discussing Gen 4, a wave of sadness flushed over me because I can vividly remember experiencing the entirety Gen 4 as a child, from playing the main games to all the spin-offs. I believe even the majority of my Pokémon plushies are of gen 4 Pokémon. I didn't realize how much of my childhood was impacted by this gen and I miss that pure joy it brought me, so thank you for reminding me of some good memories.
Although that isn't to say current Pokémon doesn't bring me joy, it certainly does. It's just I don't think I can ever achieve that level of Pokémon immersion again.
yeah 100% I love Gens 3-5, Gen 6 is my last one that I really enjoyed. The newest ones just weren't the same.
Seeing gen 3 so low hurt so much..
I think Kalos is severely underrated. Even though I had watched the anime before, X and Y were the first games I actively followed from announcement to release, so they have a special place in my heart.
Still worst gen overall in the end
@@nuggee398 In your opinion. X and Y were good first 3D games, OR/AS were great remakes, and the anime was great.
Yeah any Gen with ORAS can't be the overall worst. X and Y were interesting to follow, and actually I didn't get them until like a year after they came out so I knew a lot about it but still enjoyed the experience!
@@emperorcubone I didn't actually own a 3DS at the time of their release, so it took me years before I could play X. I hope to buy another copy at some point so I can play it again with a different team without deleting the old file.
Have you heard of pomemon bank?
It allows you to store your pokemon from any 3ds game and keeps them there for you to transfer to home or just to hold in bank while you reset then you can put the pokemon back in X if you want
Nostalgia aside, I truly believe gen 4 was the best generation. we got one of the best Pokemon games in Platinum and the Best remakes in HG/SS. We also got a lot of fan favorite spinoff games with the mystery dungeon and Pokemon Ranger series. It introduced the physical/special split that has become a staple of the series since. The anime was at its best at the time with a more high stakes character driven story for Ash and Infernape as well as having what many consider to be one of the best rivals in Pokemon history in Paul. Gen 4 also introduced Lv. X cards for the TCG which I believe is the first time Pokemon cards had Pokemon that were three dimensional and popping out of the frames ( I may be wrong about that but it was the first time I noticed their prevalence). Since then, EX and X Pokemon card art have only expanded on this which lead to some of the most artistically pleasing cards to date. This generation just brought so much to the table that I and so many others look back fondly on to this day.
I agree 100% with your comments about unova 👌🏻
I agree 10000% with the top 2. Kalos was so much fun and I think mega evolution was one of the best things Pokémon has every done. Wish it became a permanent feature with nearly every Pokémon getting a mega evolution. And platinum is my absolute favorite Pokémon game ever. The diamond pearl remakes made me remember how much fun Sinoh was. Me and my friends would make type teams and fight each other every weekend. If scarlet and Violet can bring back the magic that platinum had then it will probably be the best game ever
gens 3 4 and 5 were the peak of Pokemon for me. between these three, it was a constant degree of growth, experimentation, new mons, compounding on what came before and willingness to not have one off gimmicks but added features that would last. the Gen 5 hate is always frivolous and unwarranted because nostalgia clouded to much of the fans' perception on what is essentially the gen with the absolute best games. it's with the response gen 5 got that we get *severely* lackluster gens like 6 8 and now 9 cause my god, are they a glitched nightmare.
Thanks for having a unique and interesting list!
I love gen 2 the most but I think gen 3 has the most replay value of any gen … there is a reason when we download emulators and stuff, we all tend to go for emerald or firered
Gen 7 (Ultra Sun) was my first Pokémon game and it is still my favorite to this day. It also has my favorite soundtrack and story of all Pokémon games to this day.
Low key miss riding around in ultra space with Solegaleo in the newer games.
Been waiting on this
Not only gen 4 was great, battle revolution was one of the best battle simulator games they’ve done, even if it lacked story, battles in that game were amazing and entertaining
unova is not worse than kalos
lmao
Didn't say it was, just Gen 5 on the whole being a little less enjoyable then everything Gen 6 had to offer.
@@emperorcubone yeah misunderstanding,I commented this before i realized this was a generation thing more than just games entirely.
I have fond memories playing the Pokemon games from 1-5 in the 2D era. And when came to 6 going up I even appreciated those as well. While gen 4 will ever be my favorite 2D Pokemon game for me at least my favorite overall will ever be Gen 7 aka the Alola region.
Ranging from the regional variants, trails, legendaries and the region itself It's 1 I constantly continued to play till this day (mostly USUM), and I love playing those games generally. ALOHA TO ALOLA ❤🌺
1. Kanto because of its simplicity and original Pokémon
2. Sinnoh because it’s awesome and because of legends arceus
3. Kalos because of megas and good tv series
4. Johto because of cool looking Pokémon
It's nice to see Gen 6 get some love. I absolutely love X and Y and ORAS.
Super underrated
they hsould be loved, they fixed the horrible mistake they made called gen 5
Gen 7 are also very good to me it's story second best to the Unova.
And those make you feel like you are on a quest for something.
story doesnt make a game. story offers no replayability = not a game. reason why all 4 unova games are the most garbage in the franchise
For Me:
1. Gen 5
The Generation when they experience something new, focus on new Pokémon rather than Nostalgia Bait. And all they get back is worst Pokémon Game ever, Most Pokémon Game ever, Least Sale Pokémon Game ever, which lead to the game with no character at all called X and Y
2. Gen 3
This Generation is amazing, My first Generation and most people first. And STFU about too much water. Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Mystery Dungeon, Colosseum, XD, Fire Red, Leaf Green. This Gen produce Legends
3. Gen 4
They said that this Gen reached Pokémon peak but I would argue that this Generation is the stepping stone into the best Gen (Gen 5)
But this Gen is pretty great too. Diamond and Pearl are good, Platinum is great and How can any Pokefan forget about Heart Gold and Soul Silver, Legends
4. Gen 1 & Gen 2
The First Era of Pokémon, when everything is connected, linked and the story are direct sequel and the story make sense. Nostalgia gets into everyone.
5. Gen 7
I love this game for trying to be experimental and it climbed up pretty far from the drop in Gen 6. But also because of it, Gen 6 doesn’t get a proper sequel or (most likely) an enhanced version to fleshed out the story
6. Gen 8
Sword/Shield is below average. BDSP is Horrible and Legends is only good, so it couldn’t save an entire Generation of garbage from not being garbage
7. Gen 6
This generation is easily the weakest Gen of all (Both Story and Trainers Strength). Pokémon reached their peak in Gen 5 and hit rock bottom in the immediate after.
Out of the gens I played if we also include spinoffs as well and everything during that Gen and not just the new mainline game introducing a new Gen. Then this is my list.
1. Gen 8
2. Gen 7
3. Gen 4
4. Gen 3
5. Gen 5
6. Gen 6
Gen V was great! Black and White 2 are my favourite pokemon games ever. The anime wasn't great (although I would argue Johto's ties with it for the worst). It certainly should be higher up on this list, in my opinion. I think it got a lot of new fans into the series, as well.
I’ve played all of the Pokémon games and generation 6 is my favorite. X and Y are my favorite Pokémon games to date. It had a ton of great features such as: a wide variety of wild Pokémon, great indoor and outdoor exploration, most of the towns were unique, character customization, a better method to find shiny Pokémon, a convenient way to trade and battle online, being able to interact with your Pokémon, the battle maison, and battle chateau.
Hoenn was never my favorite region until ORAS came out. They made Mauville city a cool indoor city, they added new lore, new mega evolutions, you could fly over the Hoenn region, and more. It’s probably my favorite remake. I feel like gen 7 and 8 didn’t have nearly as much to offer as gen 6 did.
Gen 7 at least had a unique style even if lacking content, but Gen 8 had no such excuse...
I personally lost interest in Pokemon during gen 4... When I bought my DS, BW were in a special in a GameStop and I decided to give a try to White (Since Zekrom looks a lot cooler in my opinion) and fell back in love with the game, I'm a story type of videogame fan and the story of gen 5 was so nice for me that it brought me back into it... Too bad that there's not very much storytelling in today's video game... Mostly online multiplayer
story has 0 replayability. if a game has no replayability, is not a good game. learn to rank game by correct criteria.
You definitely hit the mark, might not have been pokemania but being a kid during gen3&4 and the transition in between was some exciting stuff.
Unova being the worst is just nonsense while there is Kalos who's main defining trait is just mega evolution.
Or maybe I just love the Gen5 games and B2W2 having the best Dex of 'em all (Gen 8 DLCs aside)
I've played B2W2 a lot actually and I kind of dread the beginning every time because of the mandatory Pokestar Studios quest and the fact that I can't trade over the Pokemon I want until after the first gym.
Im gonna keep it short & simple 'cause if I try explaining as to why I ranked gens the way I did, it'd make the comment pretty long. I was debating where to rank gen1 & 8, gen7 is easily the worst gen for me.
1. Gen5
2. Gen4
3. Gen3
4. Gen2
5. Gen1
6. Gen6
7. Gen8
8. Gen7
I 100% disagree with this video
This is a lot smaller of a thing, but replaying X, I think it has my favorite way of getting berry’s in the series (not that it’s a high bar, but I have fun) and that is planting them, which really helps with renewable berries, and there is mulch if you want to do other stuff with it
I didn't even use the berry farm for years, but the fact that it has one is great!
Gen 4 is my favourite too. I was born in 07 and it was the first pokemon game i got to play. it also helps that when i was little, i watched the rise of Darkrai so many times lol
born in 07 ffs laughable
@@ejokurirulezz bro shut up at least im not gen alpha💀. or a 30 yo still into pokémon commenting on a 15 up’s comment 💀💀💀
6:46 that’s actually true! The people at Gamefreak made the sprites first, and then based the art after they were made. Weird decision causing a lot of ‘mons to be extremely weird.
that's only because it was rushed and made the game from scratch within 6 months as a bet.
For me it's probably:
8. Gen 1
7. Gen 2
6. Gen 3
5. Gen 8
4. Gen 6
3. Gen 4
2. Gen 7
1. Gen 5
To clarify, I put remakes with the gen they came out with (ie HGSS with Gen 4 etc). I'm honestly surprised that I put Gen 3 so low, given that I started with Ruby and Sapphire and the fact that it introduced a lot of my favourite Pokémon. Writing this also made me realise just how much I love the Alola games and the much needed quality of life improvements they brought.
Alola is a nice game in a lot of ways for sure! And I think it's only fair to rate remakes with their modern day counterparts.
How is X and Y so high. I truely think they are the worst in the franchise. Super short, bad story, easy, barely any pokemon. Not to say I didn't play it multiple times. Just wondering why perspective.
My favourite is most probably Gen 3, had a lot of fun playing it.
Started off with gen 1 and gen 2 ofc but the graphics and colours jump that Gen 3 took just amazed me that time, also the beautiful Gen 3 soundtracks are still the chef's kiss.
Also i was an avid Emerald fan XD
Top 10 Things To Never Talk About Online:
1. Your Least Favorite Pokémon Generation.
I know I’m in the minority here but I really enjoyed Sword and Shield. As a kid, I kind of always dreamed of Pokémon being a spectator sport with fans and huge arenas. There wasn’t much better than walking through the tunnel onto the pitch for the first time hearing the crowd chanting. The Wild Area was the first step into the open world that we all wanted. The music was top notch and the settings themselves were beautiful.
The music was hit or miss for me, but that pretty much describes my feelings on Gen 8 as a whole...
Gen 5 almost made me quit the series so for me it's the rock bottom
But they’ve got Hydreigon!
Sorry for the double post , for me the actual list is :
1) Sinnoh
2) Unova
3) Kalos
4) Alola
5) Hoenn
6) Galar
7) Kanto
8)Johto
Seeing Gen 5 at #8 is insane lol have u replayed it now ?
Well I appreciate that you’ve put gen 6 high up but Gen 4 is where I fell out of love with Pokemon, I only ever played Diamond at the time and it was just an awful game for so many reasons (sorry) but that’s opinions for you.
I disliked Sword and Shield when they first came out but on a second attempt to play them I actually liked the games directed nature, not my favourites by a long shot but honestly the newer games have the advantage of being better to play thanks to the cumulative improvements they make.
Platinum was amazing! I agree though. Pearl sucked noodle.
Yeah, I can see why people might not like Diamond/Pearl, but you really should've tried HGSS. They were great...
@@emperorcubone probably my biggest Pokémon regret to be honest…
I agree that Gen 4 was the best. yes diamond and pearl had a weird dex. but platinum fixed it for the most part, and then the johto remakes. johto being my favorite region, that's what sold me on Gen 4. HGSS truly are the best games.
platinum is not a game, is a dlc.
Bro B2W2 is so good, you're really underselling it. It has so much post game content so many unique dungeons and stuff to catch legendaries and they're not just all plopped in portals like ORAS and USUM. I could on B2W2 is amazing
Okay, I will concede that it’s not Gen 1’s Fault that Game Freak and Genwunners keep pandering to it. If Gen 1 were a person, it’d probably be the type to say “I’m glad people like me, but the obsessive praise gets awkward sometimes.” At least I think so.
Gens 3, 4 and 6 will always be my fave gens to me.
I used to love gen4 alot but gen3 has my heart lately
I understand, Gen 3 will probably be higher up the next time you ask me...
@@emperorcubone don't pay much attention to the negative comments, stay true to yourself 😁
Nice, my favorite is at the bottom and my least favorite is at the top. I honestly found it funny how different opinions can be.
Keep Gen 4 at the top, then turn your list upside down and you basically got my list.
Wow, some of these picks really threw me for a loop! Just goes to show different people enjoy radically different things.
Gen 4 would definitely be at the top of my list as well, but it is a toss up for me between Gen 3, Gen 5, and Gen 6 for the next couple slots. The Gen 3 anime is the anime I grew up on, so for nostalgic reasons it will always be my favorite, but the Gen 6 anime is surprisingly competent when compared to Gen 5. Gen 5 is where I personally got into competitive battling, and I also was into competitive battling in gen 6 - whereas in Gen 3 I could hardly beat the game. I am not a huge fan of Black & White (even though I played them as a kid and put tons of hours into that game, I never felt the new designs felt like "Pokemon" let gen 4 did) and I strongly disliked Kalos (even upon multiple replays) - yet I loved Black & White 2 (which ironically I never bought until I was slightly older because I thought it was just a remake of the first one when I was younger - goes to show how badly marketed that game was) and loved ORAS as well - so they rank about even for games.
Since I was born after Gen 1 & 2, I can only judge them based off the games and anime. I grew up on re-runs of Kanto and Johoto, and are very nostalgic for me. As for the games, I never played them as a kid so they have no nostologic value - and it is without question that these two titles have held up worse as compared to all the others. But my love for this generation of anime, as well as my love for the Pokemon designs of this generation definitely put them both firmly above Gen 7 & 8.
For me personally Generation 8 & Generation 7 are on the bottom of my list. Though others could give tons of reasons to why they dislike Sword and Shield, for me above all I was displeased with their business practices of releasing an unfinished basegame that needs DLC to be somewhat enjoyable. It is a $120 experience, that is a lot of other games that I can purchase that I would get far more milage out of - so I decided to skip this purchase. As much as I enjoyed PLA, the game felt like an incomplete demo - with a shallow storyline and weak gameplay loop, and lots of bugs - certainly not a $60 product (though I will admit that PLA gave me hope for Scarlet and Violet😁) and part of me feels like I was cheated since they announced Scarlet and Violet so soon after PLA. I am not sure if I would put gen 7 above or below gen 8, but I likewise couldn't get into gen 7 with the bogged-down story and endless cutscenes. It is the first Pokemon Game ever that I quit halfway through. I tried playing it again, made it through one more trial before I got bored and put it back down. It is also worth stating that Gen 7 I also felt like the Pokemon stopped looking like Pokemon - though this was brought to an entirely new level in Gen 8, so that might solidify Gen 8 as my bottom - making the Gen 5 issue I had all those years ago look trivial.
toss gen 5 at the very bottom or even outside the list, it's the most garbage
X and y may not be my favorite ( black and white all the way) but gen 6 as a whole 2013-2016 was a time to be alive
Underrated era of Pokemon for sure!
x and y fixed the garbage and regret of the franchise called gen 5
19:36 I've always found it weird that many legendaries are too big to fit inside buildings in HGSS, but Onix, Steelix and Wailord can.
2 things:
I love Unova and it was honestly the games that reinvigorated my interest in the series as it took a while off through the end of Gen 3 and through gen 4.
How old are you? How have you not played Emerald. That was the last game I played before I played pokemon white lmao
I honestly can't think of anything new emerald introduced.
Dude, NOBODY played Emerald; it's the second lowest selling Pokemon game ever! And just because I couldn't afford video games doesn't mean I wasn't alive at the time...
@@emperorcubone That's wild to me, all my friends had it haha
Unova being rated in last place is an absolute crime! Everyone at surface level seems to always hate the designs of the new Pokémon, but Gen 5 is a generation worth playing. B2/W2 is one of the best games in the series for its content alone!
My ranking:
1. Unova (Gen 5)
2. Sinnoh (Gen 4)
3. Hoenn (Gen 3)
4. Alola (Gen 7)
5. Kalos (Gen 6)
6. Johto (Gen 2)
7. Kanto (Gen 1)
8. Galar (Gen 8)
Alola is the new generation 4.
@@tomfooIeryz It’s a typo, you nitwit!

To be fair, I said it looks cheap, and FEELS like a copy, which is different...
I legit rage quit the second he said Gen five is the worst
I have never agreed with one of these rankings more 😙👌only change I would make personally is bumping gen 3 up some places
Thanks! And honestly, ask me tomorrow and Gen 3 will probably be higher, it just changes sometimes...
I've been going back to 7 recently and I find it so much better than I remembered in a great way. Also I wish you touched on the anime because I think the art change threw most people off, when after you get over that it's super fun, has great characters, and makes Ash FEEL like a veteran trainer without making him either over powered or still not capable of growing.
Even though I don't agree with your rankings, I respect it. And like you said, even the least favorite game is still a top tier one overall!
I liked that "not overpowered" bit. Many Pokémon fans praise the Pokémon Adventures manga, but I'm not as big of a fan of it as some people, partly because the protagonists there start already as Trainers and skilled in some field, making them less relatable and leaving them less room to grow. Plus, the manga follows the game logic so much that it sacrifices more real life logic in the process than the anime ever does.
I think that will be pretty common to anyone that revisits them these days. I need to restart it myself at some point. But honestly I didn't really watch the anime during Alola so I couldn't say much, but I know winning the league for the first time was a big deal!
@@emperorcubone The Alola anime was a break from the formula in more ways than just Ash winning the League. In Alola, Ash didn't travel around the region like previously, but mostly stayed at a home away from home and only went on occasional trips around the region. Moreover, the island challenge wasn't something that Ash was constantly thinking about. Unlike in his pervious journeys, he wasn't always aiming for the next destination. Instead, it was a secondary focus next to slice-of-life stuff. It made Alola feel like a second home for Ash, not just another region that he traveled through.
I would have to disagree about Gen 5 being so low. You can hardly call Gen 6 a better reboot when they are still playing off the starter pokemon from Gen 1. I absolutely love Gen 6 but in the terms of a reboot, Gen 5 did it better. Everything was so different than the previous games and personally I think it conveys a better feeling of adventure.
My favorite generation at this point is a toss up between Generations 4 and 5, so your video gave me quite a bit of mood whiplash with your least and most favorite spots. Let's see... if I had to rank my favorite gens... (excluding gen 9 of course since at the time of my comment it isn't out yet)
6. Gen 1
5. Gen 2
4. Gen 3
3. Toss up between Gens 6 & 8
2. Gen 7
1. Toss up between Gens 4 & 5
Yeah I know I have ties in two placements on my list, but that just goes to show how close things are for me.
I agree with you, just put 8 at No.1
Sword and Shield get a bit too much flack
I didn't even consider doing ties, but I don't know how that will change it. It's nice to see Alola get love though!
Gen 6 is my favorite, so I'm glad someone finally agrees its good
I think time will show it more favorably when we have to look back at it!
@@emperorcubone exactly! I'm being pretty biased though because fairy is also in my top 3 mon types. But it really was a necessary addition after just how much of a dominant force the dragon type was in gen 5.
Considering everything from Pokémon, region and games released I think my ranking would be
8. GEN I
7. GEN II
6. GEN III
5. GEN VI
4. GEN VII
3. GEN IV
2. GEN V
1. GEN VIII
That's almost just reverse order.
SwSh are more polished than Diamond&Pearl and Gold&Silver, so, a nice list (number one thanks to Legends Arceus). Black&White most polished dual release and amazing sequels, Gen IV has Platinum & Heartgold/Soulsilver.
I'm sad that my favorite gen (gen 3) is so low on your list but after watching the whole video I understand your reasoning and respect your choice
Honestly I do like Gen 3, so ask me tomorrow and it'll probably move up the list. Not down though, still better than Gen 5...
@@emperorcubone Gen. 3 is not better than Gen. 5.
I gotta admit I was surprised by gen 8 not being last. But if you include all of the switch games as gen 8 then it deserves lots of praise. As you mentioned Snap, MDDX, and Arceus are all absolutely top tier.
Also I completely agree with Gen 4 being #1 especially if you count everything. Platinum and HGSS are the best mainline games, and Pokemon Ranger plus Mystery Dungeon Explorers are some of the best spinoffs.
It's so hard to rank the gens when you count all of the spinoff games and the anime. For example I thought Black and White were pretty good but gen 5 really doesn't have much else.
That's why I put Gen 5 so low, but for sure if it were only the mainline games Gen 8 would drop down...
Gen 5 is quality over quantity. Gen 8 has legends arceus, but a lot of 💩 at the same time while SwSh is ok.
Black&White are way more polished than other dual release games ever made, Diamond&Pearl, Gold&Silver, Sun&Moon, they all kinda s*cked without the enhacement versions or remakes...
Proud of my fave Alola region to take the #3 spot.
I agree! I never understood the hate for this region. I found it to be the most beautiful, different and challenging!
@@ppo190 thank you :D
This is like the weirdest Ranking i ever saw 🤣 is it an Aprils fool joke?
Starting off the video with my two favorite generations...😭
I started playing pokemon when I was 8. my uncle showed me blue on the Gameboy. I played everyone one of them that came out for the handheld up until platinum. My lil bro wanted Diamond so I got Pearl. We had so much fun I bought Platinum. That was my last pokemon game but it was literally the peak from my experience. The story was amazing. The extra content was awesome. The graphics hit different from what came before. The technology was peaking. Life was simple. Wifi was a thing. Trading online for pokemon was finally a thing. Battling with wifi was real. I would walk around with my DS set to battle anyone who came near my DS who had it on too in high school. Giratina was literally the coolest since fairies didn't exists and it was ghost dragon. I hear arceus is good tho. I might give it a go
I agree completely about gen 5. It's not that it's bad, I just didn't enjoy it as much as others. And to be honest, they felt slow. Not quite as slow as gen 4, but still.
Bruh my fav got the bottom... It has probably the best dex, tied with gen 1 and 8 imo. Seismitoad, darmanitan and chandelure are some of my all time favs. And then there is the music and awesome 2 part story. Also a very good actual evil evil team. Then there is the fact I got into the anime during Gen5, so yeah I love it. I respect your opinion, as flawed as it is.
I mean you're the one that likes the Gen 5 anime, so we can both have flawed opinions... But all kidding aside I do like a bunch of the Pokemon introduced in Gen 5! I just wish they were in a better overall shell...
Lol you can't say you love gen 5 anime and call cubone's opinion flawed. That season was absolutely awful.
Here we go this guy is going to break our hearts in pieces.
This is the silliest generation list ive ever seen, you put gen 8 above 3 and 5? Did I have a stroke?
I think gen one should have been the lowest in the list, if we're talking games only. The designs are great, but the games have aged poorly.
Also the generation has not much else to offer like gen 5 with it's sequels and gen 3 with it's remakes.
Gen 1 had remakes/sequels being Fire Red and Leaf Green also let’s go pikachu and Eevee.
I think it’s kinda out of touch with a majority of fans to put gen 1 and 3 so low while putting lesser liked gens (overall) like 5 and 7 so highly.
@@jaredwat8478 Sure but you're forgetting that Fire Red and Leaf Green are Gen 3 games and the Let's Go games are from gen 7. They remake gen 1 games but don't belong to that generation.
Judging gen 1 is not the same as judging all the Kanto based games.
Emerald didn't sell as well as ruby and sapphire. I'm pretty sure most Emerald fans (myself included) mostly play it via emulator, becauseit is objectivelybetter than the other two games. If I had to guess it's probably the most downloaded pokemon rom, if not second to firered.
Respectable list, even if mine would be partly the reverse order, lol! I appreciate the love for gen 6 and 7 though, they get too much hate in my opinion. Especially Alola was great I think- I would looove more new concepts like the removal of the gyms and the focus on story (to an extent atleast) to happen again! :] And while I didn’t personally get that much enjoyment from the Let’s Go games, I can 100% see how it’s an absolutely fantastic experience for many people! Good game, just not my style
Too tedious for me, I loved the games but once you get to a certain point it just gets impossible to collect any decent EXP, and I gave up on Mewtwo becuase of that
I think in time the 3DS era of Pokemon will gain far more appreciation...
This guys really put gen 3 and 5 in the bottom. Unbelievable
Ikr! He barley gave any reasoning behind it too! Meanwhile he ranted about what he didn't like about games that were apparently better
Kanto-Jhoto- Hoenee will always be by favourite for nostalgia.
Unova tried it's best but the pokedex is the worst here.
Sinnoh has my favourite story but i don't like the fact u get handed the legendary Pokemons
Kalos is forgettable bcz of its lack of difficulty
Alola is my least played and replayed game. I hate the trials over conventional gyms
Galar is beautiful
I mean if getting handed the legends is a problem then every modern game is out...
@@emperorcubone lmfao.... exactly what they been doing since gen 2.
Hoenn and kanto are "iconic"
The moment gen 3 was ranked so low made me wanna dip.
@@nolanneals2568 same here 😢
This list warms my nostalgia with the gen I got hooked into pokemon being number 1 in the list
I’d say Gen VI, III, IV, V, VII, II, I, and VIII would be my order in fave to last.
Gen 3,6,1,2,5,8,4,7
Thre is my ranking
I know this is weird
It's a pretty good back and forth actually!
You did it all right, you dissed the gen wunners, you dissed the gen three fans, you pronounced Arceus correctly and you identified the best generation. You did it you mad man, you made the perfect Pokémon tier list video!
Gen 4 at #1 I agree. literally all the other spots are HOT takes imo . I think 6,7,and 8 are much weaker generations. 3, 4 , and 5 feel like the golden age. Gen 2 and 1 are so old gen 1 being pretty unbearable to play today . Just pick a remake instead and gen 2 is fine .
Ngl, I think the two best gens are 3 and 4. I loved the Gen 2 remakes and Diamond, Pearl and Platinum were just gems! Also my first games was sapphire so it’s nostalgic for me
