Video idea: everyone talks about how faithful remakes brilliant diamond and shining pearl are. Try to play bdsp as nintendid using an og diamond/pearl guide book. I’d love to see where it varies and how “confused” you would be if this happened. Let’s face it, this probably happened to some mom somehow when bdsp came out haha
I used this guide, and it worked just fine. Obviously, it didn't have the new underground areas, but other than that, i don't think anything was different. It's been a while, though, so i may have forgotten.
One thing that always stood out to me was the scene where Dawn gives you the Dowsing Machine and Vs Seeker. She says she's only gonna give you one, but the wording in the guide for this is weird - it says "Don't get your PokeBalls in a bunch! You'll get both anyway!"
11:28 The Pokedex directly effecting evolution is something unique to FR/LG (which are remakes - the first remakes - they tried to maintain Kantonian purity). In any other game (including remakes), limiting an evolution is done only by limiting access to its required resources. And on top of that, Crobat is in the base (not post-game) Pokedex of D/P.
Ribbing someone means teasing or jeering them good-naturedly. It’s first attested by 1929 where it meant “to/a joke,” then followed in 1930 by “to dupe, tease, or fool.” It became widespread to mean lighthearted banter by 1939. Any way you look at it, it’s a little weird to use in the context of beating our rival in a fantasy dogfight lol.
Some of these guides are written very interestingly lol. I'm so glad you still use those lines like "two shakes of a lamb's tail" too! They crack me up. Thank you for another excellent episode. God be with you out there everybody. ✝️ :)
I got the "sequal" to this guide... covering the post game.... but most of it is details on the pokemon in the game (move sets, stats, and where-to-find for all the first 490 pokemon), taking up about 260 pages..... then we get maybe 40 pages of post game. A lot of the quirks you gave for your guide exist in the one I have as well (like the art for the Johto pokemon still being the Gen 2 art, or how it details legendary pokemon catches but glosses over important trainers). The Charts and info section even has a part for the Berries.... taking up.... *gasp* FOUR pages.
i remember i read through the black/white guide bc my local library had it even though i had never played pokemon and scarcely realized it wasnt a story book until i almost finished it
You know it just occured to me, I think I know why Flint has the team he does: Rapidash and Monferno are self-explanatory, being actual fire types. Steelix is normally formed by an onix digging down to the earth's core, and being subjected to it's high pressure and heat. Drifblim is a hot air balloon. As for Lopunny... I'm sure that Flint thinks something about Lopunny is hot enough to be part of the fire team.
@@CM_684 magcargo, torkoal, houndoom, and camerupt are post-story pokemon, so I'd see them wanting to keep those secret. Magmortar though?? would have worked!! don't know why the hell this happened lol
I feel like the 30 second video by Patterrz titled “trying to find a fire type in pokemon diamond and pearl” sums up both Flint’s team and the fire type variety of DP in general.
This was the only guide I had growing up and I studied it religiously. Im glad I had this guide because compared to the others it's probably the funniest and most engaging to me because of the weird phrases Also there is another fire type. You can catch houndoom in the game but its only available in pearl version... With a pokeradar 🤦♀️
I still remember one time where I fought cyntia I only had my impoleon left and could not defiete her milotic due ro HO2 absorb and I only had water type moves on it. That is when I learned you really have to have diffrent type-moves. I even think it was it's last 'mon 😅😅😢
Now this is nostalgic for me. I saw these books and bought the platinum one despite me not owning platinum at the time (or any other pokemon game) unfortunately I cut out the pokemon i liked in the book and didn't take good care of it like i do now. And also unfortunately, they don't make them anymore :( I know most likely because the Internet is more advanced now and you can just watch walkthroughs..
Is "The route, the route, the route is on fire" a reference to the song Fire water burn by Bloodhound gang? That sent chills down my spine as that was read out haha! Good sense of humour by the designers. You can't get many references to "The Bad Touch" into a family friendly game to be fair...
i remember reading the guide for platinum way back when i was like 5, i think it was by whoever made the DP guide because they look the exact same minus version differences. my parents knew i liked pokemom so they got me this guide...for the games i didn't have. i read it cover to cover even though i wouldn't get the game until like a year later
When this came out my dad had gotten income tax and gave me and my brother each 100$, I went to Walmart and bought Pokemon Pearl and the guidebook, and that was nearly the entire 100 My childhood lesson in capitalism
The very first nintendo ds game I got back in 2007 was Pokémon Pearl. My original team was the following. 1. Torterra 2. Staraptor 3. Floatzel 4. Palkia 5. Uxie 6. Azelf I also still have the original prima pokedex for Pokémon diamond and pearl.
Ah yes, vibing to the noise of crushing cognitions at the intro This has been one of my favorite series', though i might have to do a bit of catching up after this one
I was actually offline when watching this video, I got the data transferred by sending the hex codes of the pixels (360p) via Morse code and manually covering canvases (24fps) and now I’m just looking at my paintings. Fast. Looking at 24 of them per second.
Infernape would have made this whole run easier. Either way, great vid. Also I love Gen 4, I know people hate these games and they do play incredibly slow but they're still awesome games

So I did something similar as a kid, my aunt gave me a red/blue/green guide and I tried to use it to play through FireRed.
Yes

I actually did that on stream, lol
Nothing like a diamond and pearl guide to suggest fire moves in the game with 2 fire types
Ribbing means teasing, like messing with someone either playfully or maliciously ✨the more you know✨
5:16 - It does indicate that it has an Everstone as a held item, but it does not indicate to the reader/player the effect of the Everstone.

Love it when the guide has hilarious text like this one. You also just have a chill vibe and voice and that definitely helps make you popular!

Still think it whould be an intresting idea to try to beat bdsp using a strategy guide for the original diamond and pearl
Actually I'm watching this video via a VHS tape. And I'm commenting by using dial-up connection.

11:28, the only gen where crobat evolution is locked behind natdex is FRLG because they wanted a complete gen 1 experience

Strategy guides are always so fascinating. I wish i had one as a kid
I had for one Platinum my friend gave me and I used it to death
I think I had this guide as a kid, making this an oddly nostalgic video.
Respect for choosing turtwig
I did too
I always picked Turtwig and Chimchar
@@TheShadow1347 respect
Turtwig was the first starter I have ever used. I guess as a kid green was my favorite color so I used grass types even if they aren’t the best.
It's all about chimchar. I also understand it is a choice but I like chimchar.
Starting with Gen 4 the strategy guides were translated versions of the Japanese guides!
Very grateful to learn this guide's berry list is intact.
Turtwig the 🐐 starter fr, Torterra truthers rise up
This was the only guide I had growing up and I studied it religiously. Im glad I had this guide because compared to the others it's probably the funniest and most engaging to me because of the weird phrases

He said "never trust a big butt and a smile.." 😂
It’s part of the song
Yo thank you so much for hammering away at making us all these guide videos!
I learned more vocabulary in this video than I learned in a full year.
Every time I see these guides, my want to make a proper guide grows.
I still remember one time where I fought cyntia I only had my impoleon left and could not defiete her milotic due ro HO2 absorb and I only had water type moves on it. That is when I learned you really have to have diffrent type-moves. I even think it was it's last 'mon 😅😅😢

The day this man doesnt say the phrase “two shakes of a lambs tail” is the day I unsubscribe lol😅
I used to have this guide back in 5th grade
Those "your mom" burns are getting more and more savage with every video. I love it.
I love your videos but the Persona 5 music in the background for the intro threw my brain for such a loop! I had to double check what I clicked on.
I use a lot of persona music in my videos
@PaPaSea it's a very good choice! Though I am now replaying it this evening so thank you 😊
I had this guide as a kid! I might still have it somewhere, but the front cover and first page tore off several years ago
I STILL HAVE THE SAME GUIDE

the guide says Haunter is holding an Everstone... right under the pokemon
THANKS! I was just thinking the same thing.

i have the spanish one, they gave it with the official nintendo magacine back in the day. i have the platinum one and also the shadows of almia one
I had this guide! I remember having like 5 pages folded and that's all I ever looked at
Hope you have fun in Las Vegas, Sea! My parents were just there about a month ago lol
Honestly if i heard sitrus spoken i'd write/type out citrus too.
Im pretty sure I had this guide. It had quite a few typos in the back.
I remember the old days when I used to buy a guide for every pokemon game - now I just use Bulbapedia for everything
I had one of those wireless connectors to play my PSP online since my router didn’t have wifi lol
The route is on fire is a nelly reference 😂.
"Technology is incredible, you can now wirelessly hook up almost any modern device!"
Your videos are so entertaining!
My copy of that prima guide is heavily damaged but still readable the only prima guides that i have that are mint is mario galaxy 2 and red dead 2
I have UA-cam premium and watched this on my downloaded not connected to internet lol was kinda weird after you said about not being connected
Isn't sketchy at all

I wonder if one day we will actually have a main series game where a route will be on fire as a crisis plot point
OMG THE NINTENDO WIFI STICK😂
i've never been this early to a papasea video

Hey, I have this guide.
Also, heads up, this isn't in the Nintended playlist.
Papasea picking turtwig = chad
I used to own thid and the other half of this, the pokedex from scholastic book orders
Cynthia.....
Me with the P5 ost in the background 🕺🏻
Haha :D I always name my characters Boy or Girl :P the same goes for rivals when I can name them. Except for Barry. His name is always THUD!!
I have this guide book, but I clearly never read it closely
6:12 zubat-ter?
I hardly know ter!
Oh i had that guide i loved it :3
Oh shit. I actually have one for a change. (It is the only one I own. I never even played those games but I have vol 1 and 2.)
Sounds a lot like your mom caught me so off guard lmfao
This is the guide I had!
2:50 I assume this guide was written by Kratos?
Maybe people watch via downloaded video so they wouldn't be on the internet
I had the Nintendo Power version 💙
which one of these guides did the phrase ''two shakes of a lambs tail'' first appear in? I cant find the episode
Fire Red and Leaf Green.
Love your vids always, good work per usual!!!!
Which guide do you recommend if you had to pick one Prima or nintendo power?
Don't use it until you don't reproduce it💀💀💀💀
funny thing is that it said "EXP. ALL" while the picture shown showed the real name of the item
Hot take: skill share is just a youtube you have to pay for.
there is no wrong starter choice in sinnoh. can't say the same for any other gen.
#TeamTurtwig
i have the platinum guide i loved reading t for hours as a little girl
Papa, love the content and love gen iv, but I’m 99% sure you have never pronounced Roark’s name correctly! 😢
To play these as intended is to not play them at all and instead play platinum
FA-SHIZZLE!
Hands up if you too are watching this not connected to the internet, which is a bit weird...
Justin Timberlake must have wrote this
I had this one! 😂
