I've been using an A6400 for work videos for 18 months and just got the ZV-1 for my own business. Amazing stuff, Joe. Watched this video when I bought my zv1 a year ago and never did anything, but I’m back again and re-inspired to create with this camera! Thanks for the great work
Thanks so much Joe. You are amazing and I always get so much value out of your videos. You are no doubt the best filmaking youtuber out there. 😍😍 Keep them coming!
I've watched a lot of videos ever since i got the ZV-1 (about 8 months ago), but i still didn't understand this camera as much. This right here is the best ZV-1 video I've ever watched. I found myself doing a lot of playing, pausing and rewinding 😂with the purpose of aligning my camera settings to yours. At some point i paused this video and went to watch another video on your channel (Sony ZV 1 s-sinetone) and came back to resume this one. I learned so much within a short space of time, and because of you, i value my camera more than i ever did before....You really are making some positive impact...watching from South Africa ✌
Thanks Teboho. You are always encouraging me and I really appreciate it. Glad that it helped you. I also appreciate you taking the time to comment and let me know.
Thank you, thank you, thank you so much! I just bought this camera and I have no idea about cameras at all so this video was exactly what I was looking for!! Can't wait to see more :)
Great video yet again...new sub here, I’ve watched every single one of your ZV1 videos like 10x each. I bought the camera last week and since then already feeling more comfortable everyday with it and learn something new from your videos. Keep it coming you’ve been a huge help!
Wow! Such an awesome video. I set up my camera and learning so much. I’m learning how to do B-roll from your videos. I’m a new UA-camr and still learning. Thanks you.
This was very helpful! I learned SO much about my Sony and feel much more comfortable with it now. Pair this with his video about HLG3 or any other one where he tells how to custom white balance. This camera skews to a very orange skin tone if you do not white balance indoors.
That’s awesome, go out and use it until you become a master with it. It takes time but pretty soon you will be on full control which will give you more creative freedom
Thank you for a really thorough tutorial. One thing I'm not clear about: if I'm filming in Auto mode, will the ZV-1 allow me to manually intervene on any of the settings or do I just have to live with it or switch to Manual mode?
That was hugely helpful. Especially for setting the custom buttons! The only thing is you were showing that you set HFR in your functions menu but I don't think that let's you toggle to HFR mode. You still have to hit mode first and go to HFR mode. Def correct me if I'm wrong!
Brilliant observation! You are correct. Thank you fro taking the time to comment that! Hugely helpful to the community. The HFR settings if the function menu are only set to HFR FPS setting. You do still have to access HFR through the HFR mode. You are very observant great work! I would still leave the HFR setting within the function menu so you can quickly toggle between the high frame rate options while you are in the HFR mode. Thanks again
Thank you so much for the video! I was just wondering what memory card are you using? and which would you recommend for this camera and for the types of videos that you shoot.
Cheers, nice straight forward tutorial, I am new to Sony menus, so the custom settings and shortcuts really help a lot, I wear glasses for reading and with the camera being so small trying to navigate the menus out in the field is a nightmare!
I just bought the ZV-1 for vlogging and some B-roll so I found your video very useful. I just set up my camera and tomorrow morning ?ill go on the track to make some footage with my bike! thanks so much for helping!

@@thefilmalliance Still getting my head around it all to be honest - hence all these videos guides I'm watching on UA-cam! 😆 It's a huge step up from recording on my 5yr old Android phone, that's for sure. So appreciate all your awesome ZV-1 guides! Thank you 😊 One feature we cannot find anywhere in any of the menus is the 'picture profile' or 'cine2' modes?
Thanks for the video. On the other hand if I have a Crane M2 stabilizer, what should I put as a parameter on the ZV1 for stabilization? In Standard or Active mode? And for the iso you set it at 125, but when filming indoors, it's better not to have a range between min and max to avoid dark areas ?Thank you.
Hi Nazca, thanks for your input. If you are on a gimbal I would set to active if you are shooting a subject and standard if your vlogging. Active is always best but it punches in. Yes I agree that there shouldn't be a "range" when shooting indoors for your iso however know that the footage gets pretty noisy once you pass 2500 ISO so keep that in your mind when filming in low light or indoors. Its always better to light the environment and keep the ISO lower. Thanks again!

Thanks for the setting content. I took this to a month long vacation to Asia, going from Singapore, Bali, Thailand, and Vietnam. This was my main vlogging camera. Recording in 1080P, with Active Stabilization on. Now looking back at my footages I notice, majority of my footages are very shaky and jittery. Such a helpful tutorial, great information w/ the mode and functioning options. Do you have any information about the utilization of an external mic. As you stated, I also choose 26 as the audio level but was having trouble w/ the 3.5 inch cord for a RODE Lav microphone. I wonder if this is a settings issue that needs to be adjusted to manual, and/or does it have anything to do with the 3.5 inch TRRS cord? Do you have any recommendations on how to properly use an external Lav mic (with cord).
24 Timeline, and slow down the rest of the videos if it was 60fps it slows down to 40% if 120 it slows down to 20% and so on.. But if you do record on 60 frame and want it to be the main frame on the video then you should edit on the 60fps timeline. hope this helps.
Thanks for all these ZV-1 videos. SOOO helpful. For some reason I'm having a hard time finding the Focus standard in the custom Key area. So when I change it to Manual Focus I don't have access to the scroll wheel. Is the Focus Standard named something else?
Hi, you are welcome. It is called “focus standard” and can be found in page 2 of 17 when you scroll through the custom button menu. Are you sure you are clicking on the movie clip custom key and not the picture? The custom key setup can be found on tab 2 page 8 of the menu.
As always, another great tutorial! I have been experimenting with HLG and filming outdoors (sun was very bright) and ran into some issues. I set up a little rig with a monitor so I could see in the bright light. I used three things to help me with exposure - how it looked in the monitor, the histogram, and the meter and compensated using aperture / ISO. It all looked right in the monitor, but when I downloaded the footage to my computer to review / edit, the footage was badly overexposed. Any ideas?
I am having the same issue when recording outside. I have tried filming outside during the morning when sun isn’t too bright and sunset once sun isn’t so bright. But the clouds coming & going always make it hard to shoot consistent videos. Pls help anyone lol
I'm trying to follow along but I'm unable to get the FStop to 1.8 like you're doing at 11:32 (lowest I can go is 2.8). Any Idea of where I'm missing ? And by the way, your content is just awesome, I learned so much with your videos!

24 Timeline, and slow down the rest of the videos if it was 60fps it slows down to 40% if 120 it slows down to 20% and so on..
But if you do record on 60 frame and want it to be the main frame on the video then you should edit on the 60fps timeline. hope this helps.
Would these settings also be good for vlogging? Thank you for this amazing video!
This was super helpful, thanks man!
Glad it helped!
Potter Made thanks I figured it out. I’m going to keep watching so whatever zV-1 content you put out im all over it. Thanks again!
Would you recommend setting one or setting 2 for a food review video?
Solid video, Joe! Literally saved me from buying the Canon R5 lol
That’s great news. This little camera is a powerhouse for sure
So dope bro
I'm trying to follow along but I'm unable to get the FStop to 1.8 like you're doing at 11:32 (lowest I can go is 2.8). Any Idea of where I'm missing ?
And by the way, your content is just awesome, I learned so much with your videos!
I just zoomed the lens back in and it worked. I had the same issue and realized my lens was zoomed in.
