My favorite part about scythe is that I couldn’t stop thinking about the world when I stopped reading it. The politics in this series are very interesting and thought provoking. I agree that the scythe journal entries were super compelling. I listened to all of them on audiobook. I think Thunderhead was my favorite one overall, I think the story got more complex. Highly recommend continuing with the series soon!
In book 2 you see a lot more of the Thunderhead, which I think is the most interesting part of the series, so it’s the best book. Also, the biblical parallelism in it is exquisite. But I also was really satisfied with the ending of the finale
When I read the first book I had the same thoughts. I didn’t find the characters amazing but loved the world and thought the universe concept was crazy and amazing. I did read the second book and found it much better! I haven’t finished the last book yet but will eventually!!
I think you are 100% correct though that the concept carries this book series I mean at one point she goes and gets her camera to go take photos and I'm just like it it's so far in the future where you can be brought back to life but you don't have a camera built into a bracelet that is also detachable and a drone? And so many times where a cell phone would have been helpful for them to interact I mean unless I can't use technology but then again they use the back brain so I don't understand a lot of the problems with this story because they would easily be fixed by the technology that should exist in that world.
I'm debating whether to try this myself or not. I feel like nowadays I really only want to read YA if I know I'm going to love it because there's so many great books and so little time to waste on starting a new series if I don't intend to finish it. My usual qualm in YA though is plot genericness so perhaps the originality of this plot will help me look past some of this book's issues!
I TOTALLY AGREE. now that i'm no longer in that stage of life where i can read 15 books a month, i def get pickier with which books i pick up. i only want to read things i have the highest chance of loving
Seeing this pop up in my subscription box motivated me to finally finish my Scythe video 😅 Hearing your thoughts is always interesting, Sophia! And you reminded me that I still need to finish The Good Place. 😋
Yup yup yup this is pretty much exactly how I felt. I'm still interested in this world, but I haven't been motivated to finish the series yet and tbh I don't think I'm going to.
I felt similarly about this book. I enjoyed it, but decided I won’t be reading on. I actually liked the ending and decided I felt that it was good as a stand alone honestly. It felt reminiscent to the end of Specials in the Uglies series and I’m kinda down with it 😂
Yea you’re crazy! This book and series is amazing. The whole point of Citra & Rowan’s relationship is that it was unintentional and awkward but ultimately they do care and love each other. Characters do not need to have this huge chemistry in order to end up together. People criticizing this book do not get its genius!!
I agree with you. I also read it pretty recently and it was alright. The unique plot of the novel was very intricate, though it reminded me of several dystopian/utopian books I've read. I also felt the characters were not so interesting but I found myself interested in the Scythes rather than the apprentices. HOWEVER! I was so affected by Rowan's arc, like I legit cried as I thought about it in the shower hours later because there's something about that type of arc that affects me. It happened when I read I'll Give You The Sun with Noah and Carve the Mark with Eijeh. Something about losing yourself and becoming someone you are not is very triggering for me, and whenever Rowan was like "I didn't want to do this but I do see the appeal" I was so stressed. The fact that he is now Scythe Lucifer was like ... no. I feel that to enjoy the next book I have to stew on the first one cuz it was too much. If I actually had cared for the characters the way I did for those in Divergent (bringing back your comparison cuz I agree with you haha), I think I would've actually died during my reading rather that after.
ooh i love what you said about how affected you were by rowan's arc! i love that different readers can find different characters so resonant to them. let me know when you've read the second book in the series

oh yea i totally agree. the world is definitely the book's greatest strength!

ah, thank you for your thoughts!! i've heard people say book 2 is their fav (which is so unusual for a YA trilogy lmao). can't wait to dive in!
I liked the idea of Scythe but same thoughts when it comes to Citra and their "love" story
ya i just felt like it was pretty unnecessary and stale lmao but maybe i'm just cynical

ooh i'm glad u liked the second one better! the concept is seriously just the absolute coolest part of the book for sure

are those earrings from bestdressed’s collection???
Yes! I asked her in her previous video and she said that they were. :)
yes!
Know im late to this video but i was thinking of buying and reading scythe but i don't know now 😅
Book 2 is the strongest in my opinion.
I agree. Thunderhead really slaps. I feel like The Toll is good too but I understand the complains people have for it. I'm totally fine with it.
ooh ok ok sounds good i shall delve deeper into the series

How did you guess all the twists! 😱 I definitely did not and maybe that's why I enjoyed it so much? Also, the concept was amazing
haha nice name btw. i think i just have studied storylines a lot in my major, so i tend to have good hunches!!
@@bookishsophia ditto 😉😂 that makes sense!!
Sophia, Scythe was so good!! If you didn’t like the fist book continue into Book 2 it gets better!!! Great Video!!! 😎😊

I think book two is better
this seems to be a common opinion! can't wait to see what it's about!
I don't know what it is, but you always convince me to read the books I'm on the fence about, thank you so much! This was a really great video!

I just finished this book today and... all of my thoughts are basically the same as yours. Mad respect, thanks!!

let me know if you do!! the concept is definitely one of the most interesting i've seen in a while
