I actually found you through The Winner's Trilogy. Aftet finishing the series I couldn't belive how it's so underrated and I was searching on UA-cam to see if any booktubers love it. Then I found you gushing over them. And then I found your video trashing ACOTAR. and I knew we're spirit animals. 😂
I totally get you. I'm having The Winner's Trilogy cravings for several months now. This is my most favorite trilogy and I've read a lot of YA fantasy trilogies but either hated them (cough ACOTAR cough) or lukewarmly liked them (The Cruel Prince). But I don't own the copies and read them on ebook the first time not sure whether to splurge on the actual books. But since then I've been searching everywhere and can't find them in cheap secondhand anywhere. 😭
i am so glad this is your favorite trilogy! it's definitely one of my favorites, too. idk where you live, but if the cost of shipping isn't too bad, bookoutlet.com often has some of the winner's trilogy books for sale at a nicely discounted price! (not sponsored lmao)
Love this series! It's been on my need to buy list for a LONG time and I found 2 of the 3 with the matching old covers at Half Priced Books last week. So on the hunt for the first book of the series w/ matching cover design... Can't wait for a re-read.
AHHH I 100% agree - the books are fantastic and even though some people talk about them, I feel like they deserve so much more love. I first read them when I was 15, and recently I re-read them and I was a little worried that maybe they wouldn't be as good as I remembered but gosh they were great! The Winner's Kiss is my least favourite for the same reasons - there's a lot of war HOWEVER that scene with the emperor at the end was amazing! Also I love the relationship between Kestrel and Arin because I think Marie Kutkoski is very careful with portraying them as equals even though the power relationship between them is constantly changing.
ugh absolutely @ the last line of your comment. she is such a master at creating an even playing field between the two. they're always exchanging blows
Well said! I love them so much, I think about them often. Thinking about rereading them the 3rd time because I can't find any books similar to this (I mean if there is, please do recommend them!)
I actually had the same feeling in the process of clearing out my bookshelves. I loved this series and am intrigued now to see how I would feel about it so many years on. Hopefully I still like it as much as I did the first time I read it! Also, I think a lot of why I ended up liking it came down to the fact that I didn't think I would like it - the surprise of the how creative and enjoyable the plot as well as Marie's strong writing really blew me out of the water.
Omg.. I recently just bought this whole trilogy because it was on sale, I'm glad you have such praise for the books because although I've heard great things about it I still had my doubts. As beautiful as they are maybe it was just the cheesy covers that made me feel that way but I really hope I enjoy this books series.
I think UA-cam is reading my mind, because I decided to reread this series again last week and I’ve been wanting to make a video series rereading my old favs. Then your video popped up😂. Loved this video and am so glad someone is giving the love this series deserves👏🏾
Last week I also got an urge out of the blue to re-read this series, and I haven't read them since high school either! I really loved and related to your old vlog video so much too :) Thank you for this video
One of my favorite series ever. Are you planning on reading The Midnight Lie? It's a new spin-off series that takes place in the same world! I just finished and loved it so much.
YES i totally forgot to mention that in the video!! i meant to say that doing this reread has prepared me to dive back into the world for the midnight lie!
I'm in the exact same situation as you -- senior year of college, finishing classes up online, and have also been feeling cravings to return to old series I used to love! I've been reading more middle-grade fiction myself, since they tend to be happier haha. Haven't reread the winner's trilogy but yes I remember loving it the first time around!
@@bookishsophia I recently reread The Lightning Thief, then A Crooked Kind of Perfect by Linda Urban, and am currently on When Your Reach Me by Rebecca Stead! :)
Still need to finish the winners trilogy. Idk how I'll feel about finishing it so late because I remember liking it but idk if I'll feel the same after so long.
This series is obviously one of my top favorites; and yes! I agree on how you stated how amazing Marie's writing style was. The first series I read from her was The Kronos Chronicles Trilogy (it is not a YA book it is more on early teen book) and that was when I fell in love with her style of writing and that was how I discovered The Winner's Trilogy. I think The Kronos Chronicles was her debut work and I think it was a really good start. I knew I had to check the author up after finishing the series and I did not regret it. Marie is now my favorite authors :DDD
I read the trilogy 4 years ago and a few months ago i decided to revisit it. I absolutely loved it and it's still one of your My favorite series, if not My favorite alongside Harry Potter
I just read the entire series yesterday. Just full on inhaled. O my gosh. high school Sophia DID have test, and i don't know what the heck high school Sarah was doing. I'm going to reread the books prob in the next week, but pace myself because I feel like I wasn't able to fully appreciate the majesty of these stories. Also, any similar recs?
@@bookishsophia When I first read it, I was 11 or 12 I think, and I was like wooooww 16 years olds are so capable and competent. Reading it again at 21, I was like... nope. haha! Still loved it though!
Hii I just want to let you know Your review for the second book of the series, is my favorite book review ever,, I swear,, everything u said,, was on pointt.. I watched it so many times,, just bcuz its nice to relive the best and frustrating moments of the book.. I do hope u can still do reviews of her future works Lots of love ♥
Hi sophia u should try cath crowley's wpuld lobe to hear u react to graffiti moon and word In deep bluem those books are really revolutionary, for me, well I think. And cath Crowley's writing is good and just blew me away
i am pretty sure i've read that book! i read it before i started posting video reviews, but i have a goodreads review up: www.goodreads.com/review/show/556992111?book_show_action=false&from_review_page=1
You're not exaggerating at all. I love those books and characters with all my heart.
I FELT THIS

ahaha that is amazing. ACOTAR is very much not for me. abuse disguised as romance is not my tea

It's so hard to find a book like that again😭
I loved it so much that I read it every year for 4 years! And I still don't have the physical copies :( Absolute favorite trilogy ever!!!

I read this series at the beginning of the year and I loved it so much!!! It's so underrated!
ahh i love that you picked up the series this year! i love that it's still finding new readers four years later 💞
love them too!!
YAY i'm so glad 💞
You are not exaggerating. They are wonderful. I had the same exact craving for this series when I came home!!
YEEEE i'm so glad you agree 💞

After hearing you rave about this on several occasions, I finally found a library e-book version to borrow! I’m so far liking it 😊
we stan libraries. i'm glad you're liking it so far! i hope i didn't hype it up too much for you
thebookbasement I finished it and am onto book 2 now!

ah I literally just finished rereading this series about an hour ago! Perfect timing!!
omg OUR MINDS
I discovered that trilogy last summer and that was amazing, we make me want to read them again.
i'm glad you loved them!! i hope you love them just as much if you decide to reread them

I'm always hesitant of revisiting old favourite because a part of me is scared i won't enjoy it anymore :/
i FELT! THIS! it's partly the reason i've avoided rereading divergent in a long while
My favorite trilogy of all time! I really want to see these books turned into movies sooo bad lol
This is one of my favorite trilogies! It was nice to see a female protagonist who wasn't a warrior, but still had other useful talents.
Great Video Sophia!!!!!
thank you 💞

you are 100% right this books are fire I can not believe they didn't get the level of hype of six of crows or something of the sort
Have you read The Midnight Lie? I wanna know your video review.
Reading now 😅
Have you read the night circus ? I'm reading it now and struggling because it's very slow but I would love to know your thoughts :)
i tried reading it around the time it came out, but i only got a few pages in before putting it down for later. i found it slow to start as well
I recently re-read the Hunger Games! I'd be so interested in knowing your thoughts/feels!
ooh, how did u feel diving back into it?
