AAAH i really wish i could meet neal one day, he's my absolutely favourite author. i loved this lol, and i would rather be gleaned than unwound. being unwound is such a long and scary process, but gleanings are usually short and relatively painless.
I'm a 43 year old female and Neil Shusterman is still one of my top favorite authors - next to James dashner. I've read the Unwind series and Everlost series 10 years ago and I'm listening to the audio books at present. I've read hundreds of books and countless series, whether it be YA, young adult, sci-fi, etc. Neil's books has always stayed with me in a way no other books has ever done before (weeeeeeell, besides The Hunger Games but that's another story lol)
It depends who was doing the gleaning, like the method of gleaning. I really hate the idea staying at a harvest camp and then being awake while being dismembered like in unwind, but there is the fact that you become a doner to other people is nice. But my first instict is gleaning because then it's over (hopefully faster than unwinding) so I'm going with that.
I would say unwound because at least my body parts would be useful to people. However it's more likely I'll have lived a full good life before I am gleaned; whereas the unwound are almost always kids and are betrayed by their parents and have a horrid psychological thought process while they wait to be unwound. So I'll go gleaned! Thanks for having Neal on!! He's my favourite author! ❤❤
Gleaned or unwound? I would prefer to be unwound, that way I do good even after I've bit the big one. Also, where did Emily get that kick ass Scythe t-shirt?
last question, definitely gleaned. They ask pretty much this exact question in the unwind books, but replace gleaned with death, which is basically the same thing, while unwind is eternity of shattered consciousness and fever dream.
I see what he did there its the classic question. "Would you rather die or be unwound?" But replace die with gleamed. Personally speaking. Id rather be gleamed. Being unwound is something ive been afraid of since i read that book over 10 years ago.
Kathryn Langdon That’s hard to pick, honestly. But I’d probably pick drowning, as I’ve always loved the water and I’ve heard from people who have almost drowned that they get a sense of peace at the end of it.
I would rather be Gleaned than unwound. Seeing as Gleaning results in death, so its funny how Neal's Would you rather is just Haydens infamous Die or Unwound question :)
Overall I love the series however I still don't get how he was thinking about the future yet made such simple mistakes like making her go get her camera I mean by the time we get to that level of technology we're going to have a contact in our islands where we blink and think take a picture and it will take a picture it is amazingly far off in the future for reviving people and all those sorts of things yet for technologies that are near coming which he completely missed... Also just saying lava or feeding someone to a pack a wild animals or a million other options would obviously permanently kill people so I found it interesting that he was trying to claim that fire was the only way then fire an acid we're the only two ways I mean it's pretty obvious that he should have just said if the body is not destroyed too much then you can be revived which is the majority of things...
I would rather be Gleaned. Preferably by a scythe such as Faraday or Curie. I with to die an honorable death by a controlled hand of human task. Being unwound would suck.
I'd rather be gleaned. Because those who are unwound are unloved by their parents. I would be heartbroken if my mom ordered for me to be unwound and I'd have to witness the entire process of my body being unwound. When I'm gleaned, it's quite random because of the scythes. So it patterns after natural death. And depending on the Scythe, it's painless. Plus, my family gets a year of immunity 😁
No worries! Being unwound is another one of Neal's awesome series: www.simonandschuster.com/books/Unwind/Neal-Shusterman/Unwind-Dystology/9781416912057
this was definitely edited by a millennial
I would rather be gleaned than unwound. Nice job Emily and thank you for your wonderful books Neal!
Can't we all just be dead-ish instead?! Thanks for watching!
its way better being gleaned than being unwound! no question!
@@izzyc.w2821 there's really no difference imo you're still dead either way
Dinesh Janapati well... technically, ur not dead if u get unwound.
We all lived in constant pain once we read these books
so true!
I would much rather be gleaned than unwound, arc of a Scythe is my all time favorite series lol

bug2buga I just met him last week! He was sooooo awesome in person!
@@neavemcconnell174 lucky!
He’s coming to my school in a month lol

Thanks for being such a great Neal Shusterman fan!
Just finished the firs book today and already bought the second one. First time in 2 decades that I've been this hungry for more!
This is a perfect series for fanboying authors. Neal seems like such a deep and cool guy to hang out with. Would love to meet him!
Neal is the best - filming this video was indeed so much fun!

Rand, Chomsky, Volta, Brahms, Dali, and of course Goddard are all no, Curie, Boudica, Anastasia, and Tenka are maybe.
It’s almost like he knew that death by fire would not be a safe option only because you can’t be revived!
Heta Crit did you read thunderhead
Heta Crit the grandslayers...
Endura...
You cant be revived by shark attack either...
@@jacksonfranke902 In sycthe you can be revived for anything except fire
I’d rather be gleaned than unwound, but only by an honorable scythe. Cute interview :)
I want to have such a t-shirt! Where can I buy it?
same!
Yes, where can I buy one?
I would say unwound because at least my body parts would be useful to people. Emily is the cutest interviewer!
thank you!!!
I think it would depend on which Scythe was doing the gleaning, but I’m leaning more toward that option over being unwound.
WE STAN THE THUNDERHEAD
ALWAYS!!!
Gleaned or unwound? I would prefer to be unwound, that way I do good even after I've bit the big one. Also, where did Emily get that kick ass Scythe t-shirt?
I was gonna say glean but then I decided that I would rather be unwound so that I can be put back together.
I would rather be gleaned. The Unwinding process is terrifying... but that's a doozy of a question, for sure.
last question, definitely gleaned.

I’d rather be gleaned. If I had the choice of who would glean me, I’d pick Scythe Anastasia.
Since she gives you the choice of how you are gleaned, what would you choose?
Kathryn Langdon That’s hard to pick, honestly. But I’d probably pick drowning, as I’ve always loved the water and I’ve heard from people who have almost drowned that they get a sense of peace at the end of it.
Gleaned! Gleaned! Never unwound!

I LOVE NEAL
Gleaned. 100%
Gleaned for sure!
Gleaned
GLEAN
If I met him the first thing I would do was have an hour long rant about how he shouldn't have killed (gleaned) off curie
I’m not familiar with unwound. Is this another book of his?
Yes! It's the Unwind Dystology: www.simonandschuster.com/series/Unwind-Dystology
I would much rather be gleaned than be unwound
Ik he wrote the book n all but it said supplanted patients get told they were supplanted, thubderhead isn't allowed to lie.
I’d rather be unwound so my body won’t go to waste.
Gleaned. Because then it would (most likely) be quick and for the most part painless.
Anyone new order says hi.
Yeah.. I’m gonna have to go with being gleaned on this one. I’d just rather not be unwound.
Overall I love the series however I still don't get how he was thinking about the future yet made such simple mistakes like making her go get her camera I mean by the time we get to that level of technology we're going to have a contact in our islands where we blink and think take a picture and it will take a picture it is amazingly far off in the future for reviving people and all those sorts of things yet for technologies that are near coming which he completely missed...

ooo gleaned def
What does unwound mean?
It's from Neal Shusterman's Unwind series!
I think I’d rather be unwound....at least then my body parts will be used to help others!
this is such a nice way to look at it!

going the Scythe route!
no hate towards the interviewer in any way because I'm sure they're lovely but god why would they talk as if we're toddlers
I would rather be unwound
You had the chance to meet Neal Shusterman, and you chose to ask him stupid questions like this?
