That's pretty damn cool!!!! Nice job on the swap!! That little Bronco seems pretty powerful. I'm amazed at how well the body held up, I mean like rust issues. I live on the east coast so its hard to find one that isnt all rusted away. Any way hope you post more videos on the Bronco. Id like to see how well it does off road!!!
My step dad gave me a 84 ranger bronco II with a factory 2.9 electronic fuel injection,i thought they only used 2.8 and lower with the 84 model but mines still running strong. 4x4 in good shape and put a 3 inch lift and recently put 33x12.5R15 wild countries on and i absolutely love it. I put sky jacker suspension on it, interior is stock but the factory seats look brand new. Only flaws it has is the previous owner gave it to his 15 year old son and he spray painted the whole truck burnt orange and all though it looks decent, he messed up when he tried spray painting the fender flares. Idiot tried painting them while on the truck and gon the passenger rear quarter panel is a huge black spot where he tried scrubbing the paint off. Me and a few guys are thinking about doing a diesel swap but not sure what i wanna put in it yet. It'll require tons of work but it'll be worth having a 84 diesel bronco II
Awesome work - I bought a half finished 88 Ranger with an 85 XR4TI motor, been working on that for almost a year now :( wish it was anywhere close to yours. Like the boos gauge location as well, might have to copy that idea.
Damn this is pretty cool! I live in Portland, Oregon. I converted my 82 F150 to a 4BT Cummins turbo diesel. We should meet up for a show and tell. I like this project, good job!
I live in Portland too. About to buy an 85 Bronco 2. Never owned a truck of any kind before. Looking forward to all the work ahead. Can wait till the seller gets a new ignition in it, he got drunk and lost the key lol. Long time buddy of mine.
cool bulid, and definitely not the common v8 swap bet it'll get 25+ mpgs with a light foot of course!, that extra tq from the turbo should be great off road and you could always turn up the boost! to get more power out of it and still maintain reliability and Put just As much power as a v8 to the wheels
I am going to do this to my 93 Ranger in the next two weeks or so. Mine was already a 2.3 4x4 so way easier. Can't wait to see what she does after the swap.
What year Ranger was the bellhousing from, since it seems the later bellhousings are not removable? And what year Ranger was the wiring harness from? I've done this swap in a '94 Ranger before, but I'd like to try it in a Bronco 2, and you seem to have the best info on the swap.
I know this has nothing to do with the swap, but is that brake proportioning valve factory style for bronco 2? I have a 85 with that and one port is stripped. I need a new one and can't find that style anywhere
Hey man if you got a minute I got some serious questions about this swap me and my buddy are swapping a 88 turbo coupe engine into a 84 ranger 2.3 can t make odds or ends of the electrical have the computer and the main wiring harness how did you connect fuel spark the whole wiring
Do you possibly have a diagram that shows how all the fusiblelinks link up together at the starter solenoid and fuel pump and eec relay ? I would really appreciate it I've been fighting with my 88 ranger 2.3 wiring for months now ....
Hey man I am going to start installing my 2.3 turbo motor in my 85 Bronco II this spring, The only thing that is holding me up is the bell housing. What Bell housing did you use? Great video and great info sure helps out a lot with doing a swap!
I have a 2003 Ford Explorer with the 4.0 and 5 speed. I have a chance to buy a 2004 Ford Ranger dirt truck with 2.3 4 cylinder NON turbo and 5 speed. Not really looking for power as much as MPG. Both truck and SUV are very similar but the Explorer never came with the 4 cylinder (much like the Bronco II) The 4.0 has about 140,000 miles and as far as I know had never had the timing chains worked on... I would be looking at about $2000 to pull the motor and replace the chains, new guides and tensioners as well as clean out the oil pan, pump and pickup and flush the block. How much did your engine swap cost? To get some ball park comparison. Thanks
That motor would have trouble moving that truck.... but if the explorer is 2wd, the swap shouldnt be too hard if you have both trucks. Biggest hangups will be making custom motor mounts, and possible driveshaft. Wiring might get tricky too, but being 04 model year, may not be to bad, atleast compared to the cars made today.
It's doing good, need a new transmission. Lost 5th taking the hill on i5 out of Salem doing 85. The 302 is definitely the way to go for a offroad rig, but this does good for how I use it.
+T Hagan I'm still driving it, just don't get as good of MPG without the overdrive. my fix is going to be changing out to the Mazda transmission, should be stronger.
I have a Suzuki Samurai 86 with tus motor but I don't know what they psi don't yo yo 6 lbs, I ser your vídeo couple times and I can't see they hose connected
Noice job bruth3r ; I could use help on mine ...Turbo diesel swap project ...so many to choose from lol eventually I'll fig which 1 to use Some use Mercedes Hwvr if I can find say a chp used in good condition kubota ..I'm not looking to break speed records lol I have the 5 speed & a spare tf case already .. Anyone want a running 97 landrover ? Ps there is a company in the Carolinas for yas 2.9 guys that has the old world product 2.9 head molds ...new gr8t hds cheap too ! Ford really messed up the 2.9 and Nvr buy a rebuilt spartan engine ..warranty useless and clatter so bad w fuel into oil ...they say nothing was wrong w their engine ..I'm myself & 3 other exp. Master mech certified their rebuilt eng as Bad ..I lost my core too as they refused to give it back .. Heck I'd rebuilt them b4 but I wanted a warrantied engine ..nvr again I'll rely on my own skills . Ps I'm impressed w ur skills for such a young man ..Gr8t job Wanna make my wiring harnesses I don't have the patience anymore lol
Great job! I like the way you used as many factory parts as you could... Makes it look like a factory installation. Nice detail and narrative. Cheers!
I just finished a 1986 2x4 ranger 2.3 turbo swap. Found it to be pretty easy, great power upgrade!
Fidel Velez I’ve got an 88 dropped abou 4 inches! Super sleeper! Love the thing!
Great video....thanks for taking the time to share

Man i have a bronco2 ive been wanting to do this to for a while happy to finally see a video on it

Smart project young man . I was honored to watch your video, you might consider engineering as a lifestyle!

Really good job on that bulid

Very good video turned out nicely
Dude this is the coolest thing. I probably plan on doing this one day honestly. The 2.8 in mine is just gutless.
Jacob Dalton there still good engines I have a 84 b2 as well and I like the 2.8
I'd love to drop a new 2.3 ecobeast in one, would really move that little truck
Nice work I wish I had one like that I can get a few real good broncos that run really good but I like the turbo swap in yours!!
Buen trabajo, quedo al 100
Awesome Dude!
Great job.
Great fucking job man. I miss my 2.9 1988 B2. They are so much fun on the beach and off-road. Sweet truck. Hope u still have her!
Awesome work - I bought a half finished 88 Ranger with an 85 XR4TI motor, been working on that for almost a year now :( wish it was anywhere close to yours. Like the boos gauge location as well, might have to copy that idea.
Damn ur smart fired right up.
Good job

I live in Portland too! I have an 88 lowered Ranger with an svo turbo swap! Love the damn thing!
great job..
What happens to cold air intake when it rains? I want to do a hood scoop on my '88 ranger but I'm stuck on what to do about rain getting on air filter
cool bulid, and definitely not the common v8 swap bet it'll get 25+ mpgs with a light foot of course!, that extra tq from the turbo should be great off road and you could always turn up the boost! to get more power out of it and still maintain reliability and Put just As much power as a v8 to the wheels

you ever finish this build?

great vid man, hows she running these days, im getting a turbo coupe going to do a ranger!
Just out of curiosity, what did you do to the original 2.8? Also, does your new set up have A/C? BTW I used to have an 86 2.9. Loved it!
Hey man I'm just wondering how did you swap in the 2.3 transmission wise? I'm doing a similar swap in a ranger around the same year
I know this has nothing to do with the swap, but is that brake proportioning valve factory style for bronco 2? I have a 85 with that and one port is stripped. I need a new one and can't find that style anywhere
Hey man if you got a minute I got some serious questions about this swap me and my buddy are swapping a 88 turbo coupe engine into a 84 ranger 2.3 can t make odds or ends of the electrical have the computer and the main wiring harness how did you connect fuel spark the whole wiring
What manual transmission do you use
Good Job! Want to do my ’85 B II???
Do you possibly have a diagram that shows how all the fusiblelinks link up together at the starter solenoid and fuel pump and eec relay ? I would really appreciate it I've been fighting with my 88 ranger 2.3 wiring for months now ....
Does anyone know what needs to be done for a 2.3 turbo swap into a 2.3 91 mustang
Neat swap. Any plans for a front mount intercooler? What axle is in the front?
+72SSAbody thanks, maybe a FM when I rebuild and switch to megasquirt. right now its the stock dana 28. haven't broken it yet
Kool
Hey man I am going to start installing my 2.3 turbo motor in my 85 Bronco II this spring, The only thing that is holding me up is the bell housing. What Bell housing did you use? Great video and great info sure helps out a lot with doing a swap!
Use a bell housing for a 2.3 from a Ranger, make sure it's for the same transmission model, Ford had about 4 different options throughout the years.
How much did all that cost
What’s your mpg?
Nice job but why put it in that thing ?
Sooo the when it comes to the motor mounts, all it takes is swapping in the 2.3 mounts and some tweaking?
Omega Rugal yep the mounts are from a ranger

What did you do exactly to make that line work with the T bird TC slave cylinder ?? Please let me know!
I used a ranger bell housing and slave cylinder not a tc
How you liking my old 2.3t? The build looks great! I'm loving my 5.0 swap though!
It's doing good, need a new transmission. Lost 5th taking the hill on i5 out of Salem doing 85. The 302 is definitely the way to go for a offroad rig, but this does good for how I use it.
+cadillaccomaro
Damn that's a bummer! Should be easy for you to fix though. Maybe that's why I haven't seen your Bronco around for awhile?
+T Hagan
I'm still driving it, just don't get as good of MPG without the overdrive. my fix is going to be changing out to the Mazda transmission, should be stronger.
Fucking sweet I might do this to mine except mine is already fuel injected nice job though
What mpg do you get from it?
15mpg if I am driving it, 20mpg if the wife drives it...
I have a Suzuki Samurai 86 with tus motor but I don't know what they psi don't yo yo 6 lbs, I ser your vídeo couple times and I can't see they hose connected
i hope you got that 2.3 from a crashed turbo coupe and not a good one :(
