What have I just watched. My heart is beating so fast after watching that and I was listening using iPhone speaker …I can’t wait for the second time around listening to this in my monitors
30 years ago I first hears Marcus play on Luther Vandross album Never let me go.It was that slide he did on the song'heaven knows' that caught my ear, my coworker who was a bass player said that's Marcus Miller he is a bad brother.then I learned I had heard him on roberta flack live and Vandross first albums Not to mention Buddy Williams the great drummer
Totally awesome version of Run for Cover, one of the best I have ever seen/heard. Also very interesting that he uses the Sire instead of the Fender for this song ...
@@MrRufus302 Maybe, but keep in mind that this bass was in general designed to his specs. Most of the particular Miller sound is anyway coming from the player I believe... 🙂
So many virtuoso’s in the world now, and they’re amazing👌🏾 … but I’d rather listen to Marcus groove a funk solo using about 6/7 notes for half an hour than listen to one of the prodigies play 11 notes a second and use every modal approach available to western music. Soul and feel will always trump “notes” for me👌🏾
I won’t mention any names but I totally agree with your comment on some bass players playing at lightning speed and just no groove or feel what so ever even though their playing is technically brilliant and flawless all over the fingerboard !
Daaaamn Marcus just stop ❤️❤️ I love his playing. He, Stanley, Otiel, Bona and cats on that level I just unbelievably talented. Either make you want to go practice for the rest of your life or make you wanna stop playing?.
I just saw Marcus at Yoshi's in Oakland, CA recently , great show but I was a bit disappoined that he did not have a guitar player. Man, I wish Sharkey would have been there.
You may be right. But I was wondering if there was something funny going on with my position relative to his cab, or something else, because his sound seemed a slightly washed out that night.
@@jackieclark8253 I agree. But I play a Fender Elite. That Sire V7 comes no where near that. But the Sire P7 sounds and plays as well as the Elite Fender
@@groovemaster8632 …You’re judging from one bass video…it’s hit or miss wit any bass no matter the price. A Fender Elite doesn’t guarantee anything. There are some bad Elites that aren’t the best. Sharkey is one of the best guitarists out here right now.
Sharkey and Marcus Miller together, on the same stage...TAKE ME NOW LAWD!!!
I was floored when he came out. Totally unexpected. Felt like I won a lottery.
Just watching this video has my adrenaline pumping. How can these guys lose when they have that much superb musicianship on stage...? 😳
Totally agree! I had goosebumps during this performance.
Playing this song for about 42 years
I’ve been listening to Marcus playing this tune for damn’er 40 years.. and this bar far my favorite rendition.
whats the tune??

Isaiah is channeling Hiram. Perfect I love it.
Good comparison

I was thinging the same thing
I was there 2 nights later. Mike Stern was the special guest Saturday night! Amazing anyway u slice it!
Wow that would’ve been awesome too! Miller played with Stern on one of my favorite Miles Davis tracks, Fat Time.
Run for cover is such a funky song and sharkey rips into the solo 😍 Love the bassist's groove too
They took it to another level. That room was blessed and this life is blessed to have them. Does the world even know how insane this performance was 😂

His list of credits is incredible. He also scored a bunch of movies. Busy guy.
That lick/phrase @0:58-1:00 is so soulful. Almost brought tears to my eyes.
So tasteful
He nailed it! No fear , almost as if he was reading musicianship in the studio! Thumb up Isaah
Wonderful ! Thks could talk all day about this
Top Marcus Miller❤
Has the torch burnin' bright.
Thanks for wonderful clip. It feels like I'm right in front of bass amp.
Glad you dig it. Right in front of the bass amp is exactly where I was sitting!

That solo from Sharkey GOD DAMN!
My words exactly!
I was there on the 24th of march, a great moment as usual with Marcus Miller !
Cool! Were Isaiah Sharkey and Lisa Fischer there that night?
@@insidejazzguitar8112 Unfortunatly Lisa was gone but Isaiah was great too 🎸👍
Just awesome! been a long time since I've seen Marcus Miller have this much fun while playing!

He had three basses on stage with him. I’ll try to post another video soon.

The michael jordan of bass players...he reminds of that ol school hip hop song by sugarhill gang..I can play on and on and on til the break of dawn!

Run for Cover...right? This is one of my favorites on Straight To the Heart. Listened to it countless times since I first heard it in 1988.
Yes, that’s right. I leave the name out to avoid copyright claims.
Yo!
That was transcendence
So dam tasty!!
song title?
Run for cover, I think
Great googly goo! 😅
Wow! Great band and performance but could use some more harmony here

new type guitarist nerver heard
Curse word
This is a perfect example of the Sire being NO MATCH for the Fender. There's a huge obvious difference and you can hear it.😢
You may be right. But I was wondering if there was something funny going on with my position relative to his cab, or something else, because his sound seemed a slightly washed out that night.
That’s not true. I have an original ‘74 jazz and I play my Sires mainly, and I can match that sound with no trouble.
