Here I was thinking he was an American dude from the 80s, but he's actually a British guy from 2015.
Me too, dude.

I thought he was Eddie Murphy 😳😂
Same????
The fact that he transcended memehood and became a successful writer just makes me smile.
He genuinely does have really good comedic timing… the dude is funny as hell, I’m gonna go watch his stuff.
Well, is watching his stuff worth the effort?
3 things that surprised me :
1. this guy being from the UK.
2. this guy NOT being from the 80s
3. this guy NOT being from the 90s
All of that lol
You’re surprised he’s from the uk? Wtf

If you've never been in shape to begin with
I want to see his mockumentary. I cracked up laughing at the language part. "Can we hear a bit?" "no."
I've seen this man's face for years on thousands of memes, but never knew the story behind it all until now. With that said, the meme face always reminded me of some guy that you would you see in New York city hustling on a corner. Someone who is sharp, witty and will gladly sell you something for a price, whether it be advice or a gold chain.

The detail of the gold-plated watch and lines in the side of his fade is what really made the look so authentic. Also, I love the idea of this mockumentary. Hope it did well!
This isn't a mockumentary. It's a documentary. They're not mocking anyone, these are the actual people and they are telling their actual stories...

@@yz-hk8gj You misunderstood my original comment. I CAN see difference. All I am saying is he looks different from how he did as the character Rollsafe. Also I am mixed race, not white.
@@yz-hk8gj Okay troll.
@@Frank-el2wf They were saying, I must be white, because only white people think all black people look the same. Even though I never said anything about all black people looking the same. They were basically jumping to conclusions, and making false assumptions. Someone looking different to how they did in the past, isn't commentary on the entire race they belong to. They couldn't understand that, so seems they were trolling, or perhaps just obtuse.

what a cool dude, great to get to know the guy behind the meme, great great talent
He sounded a little disappointed, “I didn’t go to university to become a meme, I went to university to become a story teller and tell stories and... it is what it is...” and tries to flip it to a positive like, “I mean it makes people happy right? So... whatever...”
I’d argue that memes, his in particular, are all about telling a story with a single or a few expressions... so it arguably makes you one of the best storytellers because then the meme can be used to convey so many different messages from that expression.
I think people tend to not say the full sentence, they skip the end. It's not just "I went to X to become Y", it's "I went to X to become Y and make money out of it". And nothing wrong with that, far from it. We all want it. The problem is that the whole "meme" thing almost never translates into anything else, people share the meme but nobody really went to watch his series or anything, his numbers were still sort of low.
And that must be somewhat heartbreaking right? You see your face everywhere as you would if you were famous, but nobody is really watching what you've created.
Tahmid Antar its not that deep
In his case he actually had it kind of easy. There's a chinese woman who ended up not being able to get a job because of her meme.
But he doesn’t want to be like a “one hit wonder” with just one thing he did being the main and only thing people are interested in when it comes to his creativity. He wants to move on and create other characters and stories which he is doing. (He just didn’t season 2 of “enterprice” on BBC 3) which he wrote.
I really don’t think it’s that deep
He’s so funny, I feel like he needs to be famous for more than just that one meme
Hes pretty famous on the UK... he has written and starred in shows on the BBC like Enterprice and Hood documentary. Check him out Kayode Ewumi

I respect that he doesn’t feel like it’s his duty to bring back an old done-and-dusted persona. He gave us a great meme and now he wants to do other things. Congrats on the dude being more than just that 3 second meme. :D
Yeah I respect him for doing what he wants, but I don't think its terribly wise though. When you have a big hit, you should milk it a bit because the fame lets you do other things afterwards. I think he could have been as big as The Office was for Ricky Gervais.
@@chunkyMunky329 I mean, have you watched the mini-doc? He's used that old persona to gain connections and now he's doing shows and the likes. What I meant is that he doesn't feel like he needs to resort to bringing it back up again because he's got newer material to work with that's getting him more bank.
@@MajatekYT You can't know that its getting him "more bank". He hasn't tried really committing to that character on a mass market. He gave up before he could know how big it could get. Normally, if something goes viral, the artist rides the wave and makes exponentially more money. I guarantee you he isn't making that much compared to someone like Ricky Gervais because he doesn't have any international hits except for the meme.
@@chunkyMunky329 he said he went to university to tell a story, not become a meme.
