I'm surprised you all can find so many old cases and news. It's great so much is preserved. Thank you all the team for another great show.

Thank you - we are blessed with a truly committed researcher who lives in old papers! Does she know the name of our current prime mnister we wonder...😉

If you keep abusing a situation, it will eventually backfire at some point.
Thank you once again for an intriguing story. 😊

Thank you - glad you liked! 🙏Our thoughts turned to "karma". The very thing he threatened people with - public exposure - was the very thing that happened to him, but on a much larger scale than anything that would have happened to any of the Lords, we think. The press went into delight over this story, and of course, it was the talk fo cafe society for quite a while! Both his wife and daughter would have been ruined - not just financially. We are sure they would have had to move.🤔

This was an intriguing case of blackmail that backfired on Morland. I'm thrilled that he received penal servitude but personally he should have known he would eventually "meet his match," and that would be his downfall, period. Great investigating, presenting, backstory, illustrations, photos and videos, as well. Take care 🦋

Excellent point! 👍And, he was caught and exposed in the very way he threatened to expose his targeted victims! It was a tremendous capture and he was utterly destroyed - as he and threatened to destroy others. We are sure his family would have had to move. It is interesting that he was begging for mercy from a member of the very same class that he had targeted. Hmmm - we did not think that would go well!😉

Well, this was a NASTY business, wasn't it?! Morland seemed to have a vendetta against the nobility, and felt like they "owed" him!! I'm glad he got his just desserts!! Blackmail is NEVER justifiable!!
As usual, this was VERY well done!! Thanks for sharing, Robin and team!! ❤👏👍💞

😊As always I very much enjoyed your video. I am struck by the fact that in so many crimes the criminal seems to become very slack as time goes by. I am sure that a little checking of his last victims personally would have convinced him to pick a other victim.
R.C. and team l thank you all for all your hard work putting out these videos for us to enjoy. I very much hope you all are on the mend and that the worce of the flu is passed 🙏. Take care.

Great point @brianbailey5626! We are struck with the same thought. He seemed to be quite full of himself. His first response, over the years, would be to lash back strongly with lots of threats of litigation - a real scandal in Victorian society to the upper classes - but that was his only trick. In the UK, the chief whip is the bully in a party who keeps everyone in line in the party, through charm, threats and actions. To be chief whip, you have to have quite the reputation for strength - like the chief of staff in the states we are guessing? - it is not a position one gives to one's good mate because he makes you laugh. You give the position to the person who will whip others in line. So, yes - quite odd that he would pick on him. And, the bringing the wife into it - there are many who will take nearly anything on themselves - the moment family are touched, gloves are off. His destruction was total - it was quite the coversation topic for quite some time. And his destruction was played out on the public stage - the veryt stage he used as a threat to extort money from so many. We thought the cries for mercy were... amusing? the judge would be a peer, andfrom the very social class he had targeted. Really - what was he expecting?🙄

Thank you - glad you enjoyed! 🙏Yes, it is interetsng that the very thing he threatened to extiort mioney - the threat of public exposure - happened to him in large and excruciating detail! Very ouch!😉

Thank you - so very glad you liked! 🙏We loved this story - and the fact that amny of the Lords paid up, rather than take a chance of being litigated agnst in the papers was interesting. Especially for those looking at marraige - a whiff of scandal and the marraige would be off. We love the very public coup of catching him.😉

@@ChronicleofTheTimes2024 The reality of history, as opposed to simply listening to stories, was brought home while listening to the names of the men. So many of the family names fill the pages of books both fact and fiction.
