Cathedral Lake - Backpacking Desolation WIlderness 2022

Me and my friend Pujita meet up for a night of camping and then a simple one night backpacking trip to Cathedral Lake. Should have been nice and easy, but it almost killed us both...

I like Cathedral Lake. It's picturesque, small, rockbound and clear. It's a great place to rest before continuing on to Mount Tallac. It's also reminiscent of Granite Lake on Maggies Peaks. One of the old guidebooks said there were leaches in Floating Island Lake. Check your friend for blood loss. 😉

I had a similar experience with the heat last weekend at Vogelsang in Yosemite. At 10,000 feet my thermometer hit 80º!

Unfortunately, it's our new reality to get the trips out sooner to avoid fires and heat.
