Olly noticed that the Air Con compressor wasn’t turning on when he pressed the button inside the Type R EP3 (7th generation Civic). This lead to some investigating and finding that the condenser was pretty beaten up and that the gas had released over time. Olly replaces the condenser and receiver drier at the same time as this is advised and the gets the system re gassed. There is also an install of a replica Carbon Fibre Mugen rear view mirror cover. Check out the video to see what happens. In theory, most Honda Civic’s from 2001-2006 should also have some version of this system.
Here are the parts I used:

Hey Guys, Thanks for checking out the video. Just thought that it is worth mentioning that dumping A/C Gas to atmosphere is really bad for the environment and actually illegal. If you think you have gas in the system then you need to get it extracted properly.
Putting the part numbers in for the O rings was a good idea, nice video
Thanks! Glad you found it useful!
All these vids are well shot and extremely helpful mate. Speaking for myself and no doubt many others, I rely on vids like this to at the very least point me in the right direction if something like the ac does go. Thinking about doing it myself with how the weather is at the moment although there’s a million other things I want for the car😆
Ah man! Really appreciate that! I am glad I could help you out. It is definitely worth doing because I have already needed it a few times!
Thank you! I’m going to show this to hubs. I’m apparently the only person in my entire state that has an ep3. It’s not identical to yours, obviously lol, but I love seeing these in good shape and being cared for. My AC only works half the time. It’s got to be a Honda thing, because my AC system was totally replaced in 2015. Both the original and the newer replacement have given me issues. They always seem to work while in a shop with a mechanic watching it. I just want to not cook to death in my car 🤣😩
No worries, I hope this does help you out! I am not sure how different the USDM EP3 is compared to the Type R EP3 over here so the lines could be slightly different.
great job. i managed to blow up my k24 ep3 getting rebuilt with a 74mm throttle body, 3" exhaust. it is a track car & my aircon doesnt work but i have requested it get sorted at the same time. looking forward to working aircon.
Ouch! That can’t be cheap! All sounds like good upgrades though! Yeah, it is a luxury that is overlooked
Hope you cleaned the rusty bits up and painted them
I didn’t as I had no time to do it. It will be something I will look into in the future… especially the battery tray!
Definitely pro air con! Love mine in my ep3, mine is very similar style to yours, full interior, not track focused but not a garage queen either, the air con certainly makes it for a nice place to be, mainly when sitting in traffic!
For sure man! 100% agree with you!
I really need to fix my A/C
Been dry for three years now, bolted together for one
As soon as spring arrives, I have to sort this out, you making it look so easy and all!
Definitely worth having it back for those summer days blasting about!
Glad to hear that I have inspired you to get it working again! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@@OllyRoss Yeah, people like you making videos are really a godsend for people like me willing/wanting to do their own repairs.
I wouldn't have fixed my crashed EP3 without it. Too cheap of a car to send to a shop, and to rare/fun to just give up on.
I have a blue one, only 132 sold in my country, and yeah, not many of those left.
That is great to hear! Yeah, I know what you are saying! Wow, that is not many left at all! I thought we had a low number and we have 3000 still on the road!
@@OllyRoss I will put it like this, if Brexit would have happened earlier, I would have been in deep sh*t, as I couldn't find most used parts I needed anywhere but the UK. And now, it's apparently such a hassle most sellers don't even bother with sales to the EU.
Finding out what everything is called in German is not always that easy ^^
But the part to remember, ever feeling down? Just think of all the thousands of people like me you've helped!
Olly Ross I have one of these too, but the US version. I last saw one like mine in 2018, but it was black. Mine is blue. I parked next to it and took a pic 🤣
Ep3 💎💎💎💎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Whats the part number or where from for the dryer please
Links to everything in the description 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Definitely pro AC. I have owned my Civic Sport for 6 years and never had working AC ): ain’t gonna bother fixing It now it’s done 150k miles and EP2’s are worthless lol
For sure! Ah, well I guess I should have made this video 5 1/2 years ago! Sorry that I’m late! Haha
@@OllyRoss 😂
With the heat in the UK atm went to re-gas my Ep3s AC untill realized it had already had a AC delete 🥴😂 well less weight more power 💪🏽😂😂😂
Haha! That is the classic response! I think it’s a worthy trade off! Haha
Really nice video. Very useful information
Appreciate it! I am glad it could shed some light!!
Those Red Nike's are my jam, what are they?
Thanks! It’s an OG colourway of the Nike SB Stefan Janoski shoe. The colour is “Red Earth”
Great filming and video !
Thanks man! I am glad it doesn’t go unnoticed!
You’re a legend, this is the exact problem I’ve got with mine. If I get the parts, how much do you want for doing it? 😂🙏
Haha! Well now you know what to do, I couldn’t possibly take that sense of achievement from you for when you have tackled it yourself!
Question. How were you so sure it wasn’t the compressor?
Or were you handling the smaller stuff first, hoping that was the issue?
From the research I did, it seemed that the system would just stop working when there wasn't any gas in there. I thought I would gamble on the fact that, because the fins were so destroyed, that was where the gas had leaked from and that was my issue. I guess I was going into it blind at first, hoping that was the issue.
Great video. Mine I think is exactly the same as my a/c does not work and my a/c condenser looks the exact same
Thanks! Yeah, I reckon there are a lot of cars that suffer from this! Worth doing for sure
Hey Olly, I am about to under go this job. Got new condenser to fit.
My unit isnt leaking but the matrix is fucked like yours. If I remove the old unit will the gas escape ?
Do I have to replace the O rings if replacing this part as mine isnt leaking ?
cheers and thanks for another helpful video.
Yeah, if you know you have the gas in the system then you have to go and get it removed properly! It is super toxic for you and the environment.
I would replace the O rings anyway as they may fail in the future
@@OllyRoss If my system works ok do you think it is necessary to replace filter receiver drier ??
also is it just 1 of each O ring required ?? so x2 O rings altogether ?
Update : Ok just saw the link to forum looks like x3 O rings needed, can you confirm. Thanks
80873-ST7-000 (8mm) o-ring - Actual specs 6.6mm ID 10.2mm OD and 1.8mm thick

did you go into this blind? or you have an idea of how to strip the A/C Condenser/Receiver?
Just looking to do this myself, just fearfull of timeframe.
I went into it blind. I couldn't find any videos on a EP3, they were all on sedan shapes in the US but I just guessed that Honda wouldn't make it completely different. I had it apart and back together in a day though so it is possible.
Any plans to get a private reg?
The one I have is kind of “private” anyway so I don’t think I will bother to be honest.
People who remove aircon for track days just do it for their ego.
Hahaha! rAcEcOr!!
Which rear bumper defuser/ lower half is it that you have on yours?
On the front it’s an Airwalker style lip from Fiberworx
@@OllyRoss sorry I meant the rear one.
Oh right! Haha. It’s a Fiberworx FX Lip on a standard EP3 bumper
How to fix AC on an EP3: Remove it, for that 18kg weight saving.
Maybe if you want rAcEcAr…
18kg of summer comfort in a daily! Haha
@@OllyRoss If it's a daily then fair enough you need to be comfortable lol
Any idea how much is the mirror cover before I ask Kaizen and waste their time if its too expensive? :D
I think it’s £50 but I could be slightly wrong. The genuine Mugen one is £213 I believe
@@OllyRoss thanks man :) I can confirm it's 50 :)
No worries! Nice one, I shall remember that
