This ain't a sponsored video, but I always like to shout out companies who support what I do. Go check out the new pedalboards from MONO, they rock! monocreators.com
Hey tyler, what is the difference between a multi effects pedal and seperate pedals when it comes to music (not space consumption, cost and stuff like that) ????
Music is Win I have entered your giveaway 3 times now, and every time it keeps getting taken of from people reporting it for now reason. this isn't just happening to me, its happening to everyone at the top of the comment section.
Music is Win Hey dude!! How did you get that crazy delay/loop at the end? Can you review or discuss that pedal? That was intense, dude!
Do you ever perform? If so you can you post some videos of it. Also, do you do anything but UA-cam, how do you make your cash?
Well multi fx you just get the fx built in, with separate pedals you can hand select each effect instead of just having the set you're given. Most multi FX are good at a lot of things but not great at anything, with separate pedals you can get a pedal thats the best for each effect for your music. Also like 10x the price, but hey, art ain't cheap.
Me drooling by lookin at all those pedals
Shoutout to all poor guitarists
And bassists.
I thought of a wii remote the whole time lol
Ay
Ayy
Ayyy
The reason all mini pedals have offset ports is actually very easy to spot. the pedals themselves are barely wider than your standard audio cable jack so you can't physically insert two of them from opposite ends without them colliding
Exactly. Mini peds are in 1590a boxes.
You need the double sized ( think mxr dynacomp) 1590b to have the width to have the jacks in line.
And how didnt tyler realize it😂
The In/outputs are offset because the internal parst of the those are too large to be in one line....
Science! and common sense.
Yeah he's a bit slow on the uptake.
Thank you! I was going to say the same thing, but I decided to check if anyone else said it.
The give away at The Lollipop Guild.
You mean the pole doesn't just disappear into the void when i stick in the jack? who knew?!
1:18
Solid couplers? That’s a sin against the world of pedals and you know it!
Call me cheap but a piece of aluminium shouldn't cost over $100. Pedal boards in general are so ridiculously over priced even simple ones like this one are supper expensive
What about you don't cheap out on your sound
Have a think about that for a minute
What has the board itself got to do with the sound?
German Ocampo
I agree. You could easily find something else to replace it for a lot cheaper. And it has nothing to do with sound.
German Ocampo Totally agree!
Ofcourse it changes the sound! It affects the electromagnetic waves and it makes the pedals feel comfortable.
And we all know a happy pedal is a good soundimg one ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
yeah yeah irony off
Those mini patch "cables" (they actually have no cable...) are not good at all, they can damage your pedals, even if they're fix in the board.
Comment confirmed to be made before the CSGuitars video
@Joseph Koo there is still damage, watch the CSGuitars video
CS guitars did something on that
Yes, never Ever EVER use those things. They are hot garbage.
@Samuel Mccoy The veracity of video is not based around subs, but if the points and facts presented are demonstrated logically. So it's not really an argument saying I'm sub biased.
On a standard size (eg Boss) pedal with the jacks directly opposite, the tips of the plugs are about 1/4" apart when plugged in. Mini pedals are about half the width of a normal pedal, so there's no room - the jacks have to be offset.
RCbeastly - yup, what you said...
(+RCbeastly) I came here to see how far I had to scroll to see that exact comment. 😆
correct - it doesn't take einstein to get there...
The reason why the input/output are offset on mini pedals is that the 1/4-inch plug is simply too long to go straight through a pedal that small. To have them in the same place on both sides you'd basically have to use the smaller 3,5mm jacks.
OH SNAP! Your guitar playing during the demo at the end; it just blew me away! Your riffs play to pedal's effects with the coolest blend of melody and smoothest technique. I've loved learning from of your vids for a while now but never before seen this level of guitar mastery. Tyler is my guitar hero!
Also, I am going to buying all these pedals right now...
I think I'll save the $100 this piece of aluminum costs and get my own velcro and a piece of plywood and call it done.
I did the same thing. You just need to build it so that you can fit the power supply under the board like this one. Holes in the board for cables, and rubber feet and you're good to go. DIY rules!
Same
The input and output jacks are offset in minipedals because you can not achieve the small size by putting two audio connectors next to each other, you have to put one on top of the other on the printed circuit board to reduce the thickness of the pedal. Without offsetting, no mini pedals :)
Mini pedal inputs and outputs are offset so that the jacks can run parallel without touching, the pedals are too "skinny" to have them run straight through haha. Love your channel brother.
This was such a great video. Thanks, Tyler!
Wow dude, you're videos have gone a long way. I can only hope to achieve the success you have. Keep up the amazing work.
This is the most useful video on pedals that I have found. Thank you.
I thought I'll be bored, but this video really made me smile (which is a rare thing). Thanks, Tyler.
Can't love Tyler's playing enough, hot damn. The whole demonstration at the end is fire.
There is a really good reason for the offset set in and outs, if you haven't figured it out. The pedals are so thin that there is literally no room for the in and outs to be directly across, cuz the jack almost goes all the way through to the other side :)
That was fun. I had a mini pedalboard with about 25 pedals. It was totally ridiculous.
Just wanted to mention that you were using the large offset connectors that will stagger most of the Mooer and Donner minis. There are shorter offsets that allow you to horizontally match up the pedals perfectly.
Also, the tiny EBS flat patch cables are about 3" long and just perfect for minis. Can’t recommend them enough. Noise-free as well.
Was impressed with that noise gate.
I have a pedal train jr. and wired it up with pancake/flat-head cables to give me some extra room. Works well!
I have custom-build-pedalboard.
Exact dimensions what I need, really happy with it.
Your mini pedals sound killer.
Nice vid
I like the battery riff. That distortion is dope.
Bruh I see u like everywhere
Hey tyler I love seeing you do gear videos like this, you should do more!
Your videos are awesome!
I believe small form factor pedals manufacturer prefer offset in-out jacks, because the jack socket would bump with each other if it doesn't put that way
Great piece, here. I went to a mini board to help with my bad back. I've used it for 2-years and never felt short of tools... Some suggestions: Try the small deck from a Chemistry Holeyboard and attach the rubber feet and D-braces bolt under the board. I use a Decibel-Eleven power supply under the board which is not visible, but strong enough to eliminate need for a noise gate. Also, the Wampler Mini Ego Compressor is just fantastic, too. Hope this helps.
the mini pedals' offset jacks are offset for a reason, an the reason is that the jacks in a normal bigger pedal can go over and under the other, cause its thick, on the mini pedal there is only a small space where the jacks can go, and thats just for it to be possible
Dunlop mini wah tho
Space Cadet you should try the Moort Wahter. Is awesomeeeeeee i swear.
They are offset because they aren't wide enough to run them straight through.
was gonna say that. it kinda bugged me that he was so surprised about it. THINK man, THINK!
Weyllandin totally:D
offset, WOO WOO WOO WOO WOO
Valen :3 exactly what I️ was thinking
They could run through on top of each other tho. That way they wouldnt be offset.
The reason the mini pedals have offset jacks is because there just is not room to have them inline. If you rest a cable on top of the pedal inline with where it goes in, you'll see the 1/4" jack extends almost to the other side of the pedal. Noticed that on my SP compressor!
Hold an unplugged instrument cable over a mini pedal just above where it'll plug in. Two cables won't fit unless they're offset. :-)
I've got the same Polytune...love it.
Never use those solid connectors. The walls of a 1590A enclosure are slightly angled, and the solid connectors put severe stress on the jacks.
cool vid dude keep up the work!!!
Remember, if it aint offset, you're touching tips
Never noticed the offsets. Explains some placement issues. Thx. Great vid.
You come to your gig, and the bassist asks you: "Bro, where are your pedals?"
*pulls this out of pocket*
Yes, you know that little front pocket that is above main pocket of your jeans? That one.
CSGuitars made a great video on why not to use those straight line or even the right angled patch "cables"
"They destroy your pay-dels!"
I saw that.
Tyler, your blue guitar is gorgeous!
Nice board! Should be Tube Screamer mini there too.
I like Mooer Echoverb the most!
👌🏼Nicely done.
I'm pretty sure the inputs are always offset on mini pedals because when you put the cable into the input jack, it reaches almost to the other side of that skinny pedal.
love that echoverb... buying one.
I have the Tumnus Deluxe, it is currently my favorite pedal I have on my board
Yo wazzup Tyler. Do a collab with Samuriguitarist.
David Nwokoye 100%
David Nwokoye please
+1 +1
Samurai already confirmed it
fkn fuck yeah christmas is early this year
well if the jacks were not offset, they would colide in the middle^^
Yea you're right
As you've already got a few Mooer pedals, I can highly recommend the Mooer Redkid pedal. It's a talkbox/wah effect and it's awesome.
Pedals, pedals, pedals. I've spent my life changing pedals. I think I need to write a song about it.
4:06 I wouldn't call it a trend, I'd call it basic necessity. You can't have two 1/4" jacks on the same plane on pedals this small. They won't fit in that small of a space.
Sweet board Tyler. I've always put my Tumnus before my higher gain pedal (an OCD). I'll have to flip the order and give it a go. I'd also be curious to perhaps replace the OCD with a couple snazzy mini dirt pedals. I run a Pedaltrain Volto under my Pedaltrain mini for portable power and one less power cord. Always dig the vids!
Really digging the custom prs holy shit
the jacks are always offset on a mini pedal for the simple reasons the jacks wouldn't fit if it's aligned. the width of the pedal is shorter than the length of 2 jacks plugged in :-)
I/O are probably staggered because the pedals are narrow, two 1/4" cables wouldn't fit inline.
I'm seeing the Tumnus everywhere! Might b time to check one out!
Hello there! Nice setup! I´m also a happy mini pedalboard owner (I travel a lot) and have just replace the Polytune mini for a polytune clip in order to free some space (for a TS9 mini) and I must say, I´m pretty happy with the change. -The only thing I miss is the ability to killswtch the whole thing but anyway I´m staying this way \m/
*They're offset so both jacks can fit in the tiny pedal body*
That "Battery" riff was awesome.
Awesome !!
Cool setup.
"Yes I did. I set up that camera" HAHAHAHA😂
Flat patch cables. Worth the money, trust me.
For some reason the "Yes I did. I set up that camera" cracked me up so hard, and I return to this video just for this joke and continue watching it full
Dude, gating the clean signal right after the tuner, is more effective (or at least it feels as such). Give it a shot!
Mooer, Joyo, and Donner have saved me a lot of pedalboard real estate. Left me enough space for a couple of whoppers (MUFFFFFZZZ), the ubiquitous OCD and some Boss pedals. Boss Es-5 Loop Switcher as the "brain". Small but powerful.
And I LURVE my vintage Phase 90. Phasers are coming back in, I tells ya! They are, and so are flares, macrame, and LSD parties...
I can't wait for my MI Boost 'n Buff and my RC Booster (rare wood-tone chrome finish model)
Haha this is sick, I always thought of doing this but you actually made one
Very. Helpful. Video!
the mini pedals have to have offset inputs, simply because of how thin they are. they’re thinner than two male input ends
Pretty cool, I've long dreamed to make a mini pedal-pedalboard just to have lots of pedals on a large board, hahah; if I could just sacrifice some larger stomps I'm fond of, haha.
I really just finished my giant board(well, never really finished, lol) but now I want to make a mini board, new project, yay!
wow. gonna try this when I have my own set if pedals. thank mr. Tyler Larson. Really Big Help. Sorry for my English
Excellent
The mini pedals have to be offset remember theres still a guitar cable that's it's entire width being inserted there so they can't be match
I just checked out Mono Boards ( as I am building a new board for 9 pedals ). I am surprised you did not use the Mooer E-Lady Flanger ( which is a fantastic pedal ) or their Trelicopter / Tremolo ? ( for me personally ) I like a little more space on my board = no accidental stepping on adjacent pedals, knobs & switches or changing their settings. Nice video though. Glad I have Other Options vs. Pedaltrain. Also Looking at Pedaldeck & Schmidt Array pedalboards. I like a 2 Tier Design ( for the back row ). - Michael Caz - NYC -
Check out EBS patch cables, the plugs are flat and the cable is flat and flexible, they take up less space than traditional patch plugs and cables FWIW
The input and output are offset because the jack plugs are too long for the width of the body and would collide with each other if not!
very cool and informative
Offset inputs are because they aren't wider than a 1/4inch jack
Your hair grows back fast
he should just let it grow
He should that.
Very cool. I’m thinking of getting the Donner Noise Gate. For what I do, it seems like a good bang:buck.
Your mini-board is really cool. I don’t perform anywhere, though, so it makes me wonder….on a stage, can you accurately tap dance your way around that thing or would you put it on top of an amp or PA and switch by hand? I’m 59 with bifocals, so I would ge anle to even see the damn thing, if it was on the floor.
Man i would have definitely used the tube squasher i love it.
the reason why the in/out put are offset is because the pedals are to small for the two cables to fit in the tiny little pedal.
The input and output jacks have to be offset, or they'd clash with each other in the middle. The pedal is only a little bit wider than the length of the cable tip.
Oh! I have that donner noise killer
Mini pedal inputs and outputs have to be offset because the plug goes all the way through to pretty much the other side of the pedal, so there is no room for another plug in the same line as the first one :)
Spent my entire career so far with the same or similar rig, very basic pedals, strat, vox/fender amps - 8 years now... Recently started changing the tide bought a Gibson, some mini pedals and started looking at lunchbox amps! Cause the times they are a changing 😅
Where's your ultimate mini-guitar?
Tabor Treanor And don’t forget the ultimate mini amp!
The jacks have to be offset so they fit. If they were in local be the plugs would run into each other.
Nice mini pealboard man , what i find interesting is that your modulation pedals sound good connected directly to the distortion pedals, sometimes it might not sound that goodwhen you don´t plug modulation pedals into the amp´s FX Loop, is this something you do with all your pedalboards or do you plug it this way when you are not going to use the amp distortion?
its offset because the jack touches the over side so they have extra bits of metal to link them
They're offset because the Jacks would be touching on the inside. I've built pedals :D
Hey Tyler, can you do a video on the reverb/delay pedal? Because the last thing you played in a sixteen kind of rithm interest me
greetings from Europe. ; )
NIIIICE!
yeah man, mini pedals are too narrow to have the in and output opposite. :P The jacks would collide.
4:18 the input outputs have to be staggered because the jacks are just as wide as the pedal
try to put two 1/4 inch plugs next to each other. yes, thats why they are offset on these small pedals :D
The small pedals are offset because they aren't wide enough to fit two cable ends across.
I believe the input and output are offset because the pedals are too small to fit the quarter inch hacked in them directly across from each other.
You should be able to fit more on the pedal board with hotone pedals
Use EBS patch cables to fit more pedals ;)
please explain to me how you make a mini pedal that is 1.5 inch wide have a straight input and output
