That was actually before this one by a few years, this one is 1 year ago, the one with Mark and Laura was done 5 years ago. This is an excerpt from the older one
Mark speaks human very well for being from another world. Loved this band from the very beginning. There are two "bands" that I have zero fear of recommending to anyone. This band and Charlie Crockett.
Mark is one of the best doing it right now. Discovered "Krung-Bin" not that long ago and this trio seems other-worldly. They play extremely well together and I am sure that seeing them live would be a trip!
Had the pleasure of seeing Khruangbin live, Mark's tone was amazing in person. He used the trick at 4:29 with the expression pedal controlling the delay feedback often throughout the show, mostly for transitions, and it was amazing every time, the whole venue was filled with that whirring tape oscillation sound and then he'd pull the repeats back right as the next song started
I saw them a couple of days ago. Blown away by how much work the guy does. Didn't hear him screw up once and he is allll over everything. Really impressive.
This is a complete opposite approach to what I do. He uses mostly skill and the pedals just add spice, whereas I use pedals to compensate for poor skills. My dude has got real talent.
Best distortion pedal ever made.Ive got 5 of them from different years and they all sound good. But there's just one that sounds great.1983 MIJ seems to be the magic year.
The wah trick is really cool. Love how small the board is too. I gig in New York and I have to walk with my gear a ton. I try to keep a minimal board too
3:43 The Boss Dyna Comp. 😂 I love how that slip of the tongue was probably not on purpose. He’s covered up the labels and has just maybe forgotten. Either way it hurt my brain for a split second. 😂
He does that delay pedal thing in People Everywhere when playing live sometimes, so cool I know how he gets that sound now. Thanks for uploading this video
reading the comments here made me realize two things: 1. the first people to comment might be the most deranged. 2. internet comments may be worthless. mark is one of the best and most fresh guitar player in forever.
I accidentaly recorded guitar on one of my songs with my wah on (just like he did), and I'm just realising one of my favourite guitar players regularly does the same. that's so cool
Mark and company have created an instantly-recognizable sound… he might not be a traditional guitar hero but the tones and textures he creates are no less impressive.
it's been a while since I saw them live (man...3 years ago) but he had Chase Bliss Warped Vinyl in addition to what's on this. and more recently I saw him adding Boss Chorus pedal and what not.
Love the wah always on. Because of this I started doing it as well. Fantastic tone. Tone knob around 3 for your usual sound and simply increase to bring in wah effect or anything in between.
Interestingly, Ernie Isley knew Hendrix when he was younger. When Jimi played with the Isely Brothers in the mid 60s, he'd hang out at their mom's house. Ernie says he'd watch them rehearse and that Jimi liked watching the Beverly Hillbillys with him. Makes sense when you hear how Ernie played.
They were just on Austin city limits, on PBS. Never heard of them, it was late at night couldn’t sleep. Normally I listen to rock and metal, but they were pretty cool, my husband likes punk and rockabilly, it has that vibe.
He's got some hot rails or something for pickups. Not sure if they're made to sound like single coils with no noise or humbuckers. If they're the traditional hot rails then they're designed to be humbuckers. His middle pickup is single coil though.
Why does Mark have tape covering parts of the logos of the pedals? Doesn't seem like it's to hide the brand as he covers over "el capistan" and then leaves "strymon" exposed. Any thoughts?
In spite of what the boutique Pedal companies may suggest - it looks like in the 90s I could have gotten a great guitar tone with my boss pedals after all...
I've heard some people mention about the noticeable volume loss on the Boss PH-3 but I don't seem to notice it when Mark was using it on this clip. Is it because his amp is just cranked up?
I've had that same boss phase shifter on that stage 8 phase for over 18 years. The pedal glitches out now if I try to move it to another stage so I just leave it. 🤷♂️

I have one. I 100% understand why it'd be on all the time. It adds a seriously nice vintage filter to the tone.
The last tone he had sounded like the beginning of Achilles last stand.
These are the best pedalboards. Normal pedals and tons of personality and talent.
Next do a WIG-rundown with Mark and Laura
he would do well in Daft Punk's Lucky video 😉
Killer!🎉😂
Best comment! Let’s make it happen.
lol!! Exactly!!

One of my favorite modern players. Love the basic board. The talent and tone speak for themselves
Mark speaks human very well for being from another world.
Loved this band from the very beginning. There are two "bands" that I have zero fear of recommending to anyone.
This band and Charlie Crockett.
Charley Crocket, duuuude. Fuck yes.
I'm gonna piggyback your comment with All Them Witches and Rattlesnake Milk. Perfect bands.
This man is the people's guitarist. Brilliance.
Mark is one of the best doing it right now. Discovered "Krung-Bin" not that long ago and this trio seems other-worldly. They play extremely well together and I am sure that seeing them live would be a trip!
Seeing them live next week will think of you
This guy is brilliant, one of the most exciting guitarists around.
I love the unique pedal tone approaches

I came to this video to search for exactly the same thing
I saw them a couple of days ago. Blown away by how much work the guy does. Didn't hear him screw up once and he is allll over everything. Really impressive.
I like his approach. Nice sound with simple gear. There is no substitute for talent.
exactly why this dude is one of the best players in the world.
Truly unique player in a sea of sound-alikes.
Yeah but... Once you've heard a few of their songs, you've basically heard them all.
Lol there's so many unique guitarists out there. you're just too lazy to find them and love the algorithm forcefeeding you whatever is poppin'.
@@justaguy2365 that's one of the dumbest things I've ever read. You can say that about any artist or band. You basically just said nothing

@@TaroTimeswow you sound so butthurt over one sentence admiring Mark. Weird af.
Saw them in Osaka last month. Great. I love Mark's simplicity and humility in all he does.
"Boutique Boss DS-1", I love it! This guy has some healthy confidence, very down to earth!
This is a complete opposite approach to what I do. He uses mostly skill and the pedals just add spice, whereas I use pedals to compensate for poor skills. My dude has got real talent.
Mark is a really unique, original voice on a classic instrument….❤️❤️
As a DS1 fan I’m happy to see it get soo much love this year.
Favorite pedal I own

One of the coolest bands I have ever seen.
I love this series.
We need a uppdate with Mark
Yes!
100 times yes. I know it has changed!
The pedalboard hasn't changed in years, I get the joke 🤣
Just imagine if the updates is fractal fm9
Still using the same shit..
Mark's one of the best modern players up there with Jesse from Men I Trust, insane tone, really nice guy too. Saw them live earlier this year.
Damn right! I hope they interview Men I Trust!!!!
Absolutely!
Literally my 2 fav bands and guitarists right now 😭

This is somehow a really inspiring rundown.

BRILLIANT AT THE BASICS. THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL PEDALBOARD!!!!!!!!!!!!
I could listen to mark play all day
Incredible guitarist. Absolutely brilliant.
lol!!! Yeah sure
Mark is an amazing creative guitarist. Saw them in Denver this year--AMAZING show!!
I accidentaly recorded guitar on one of my songs with my wah on (just like he did), and I'm just realising one of my favourite guitar players regularly does the same. that's so cool

Amazing guitarist! Khruangbin is my new favorite band! ❤. Go Mark!!!
Anyone with a DS-1 on their pedalboard is cool in our book 🙌✌️

Mr. White, first song I heard many years ago, and was hooked.
I love Khrungbin.
Not a huge fan, his music is good, but totally found this mindblowingly insightful. This dude rules.

Mark Speer is very, very talented.
Never heard of this band but his rig is very cool n he can sure utilize it hot damn
A genuine guy a genius!
I've watched this video a ton and the "DS-1 stock ... they only made a few million of these" gets me every time.
That's what you get, when you put tape on the brand names! Total madness and mayhem! But lord, he got some serious tones from his fender plexi!

Still one of the best rig rundowns ever!
Uniquely talented guitar player 👏

If Mark was talking about drums and I wasn't looking at the screen I'd swear that was Steve Gorman's voice

My mind is blown, somehow I already own 3 of these pedals. It's truly the ears not the gear.
The dude from Rattlesnake Milk rides a volume pedal, the whole time, to emulate a Leslie. Super cool
Tooooooo short, it nice! Great Guitarman, Great Band!
I have to turn the DS1 down like that plugged into a fender lol.
God damn this guy can play
I don’t know who this dude is but I appreciate his hair
The used market for used Mini Boss Dyna Comp's is going to skyrocket after this interview 😅
