I was hit and run by a drunk. He briefly came over to see if I was alive or dead, but then took off without a word. Fortunately I kept my phone in my jacket pocket (not on the bike) and managed to get a pic of him pulling away with the plate fully legible. Happy to report he did about three months in the jail.
3 months 🤬
@@FortyFourTeeth yeah. My reaction too. But it beat the zero he would have gotten if my phone had been mounted to the bars since I came to a rest pretty far from the bike. Also, god bless Vanson leather; knee, elbow, and back armor; carbon fiber joint protection on my glove fingers; covering the brakes, etc. He couldn’t have timed his left turn in front of me better if he was trying to kill me.
I was knocked off on a roundabout, driver never stopped, had partial reg and strong description of a less common car, police didn't want to know, my dad wasn't impressed, but despite both being calm and polite we were threatened with arrest unless we left. Sussex police (Chichester) equally as scummy as the driver of an x registered (17 years ago I knew the last 3 digits too) burgundy merc A class with damaged rear quarter. We only asked if they could radio local cars to keep an eye out for it, on the off chance, we weren't expecting them to drop everything and perform a miracle, just keep an eye out for a potential threat to other road users.
Separately, few years ago, whilst stationery in traffic, the car in front decided to reverse into me and kept on going after the crunch. Nice. She actually claimed she didn't need to look behind her because she had reversing sensors. She then hit the vehcile behind her whilst parking afterwards. The plate on her car was false, she gave false details, never traced, went to mib in the end. This was outside a school, she could so easily have crushed a kid.
There's a lot of really wonderful people out there, it's not all bad, but sadly we share the roads with some really nasty, dodgy, stupid scumbags too. This is clearly reflected in every insurance premium sold!
Did you have a front and rear camera?
The satisfaction of getting his plate and him going to jail must make you smile every single day ❤️
I used White Dalton back in 2013. I was hit by another biker, from behind. This former friend broke my left leg into 13 pieces and refused to admit liability.
My case was managed by Andrew, but i spoke to Gav on several occassions.
White Dalton are simply brilliant. They are bikers, so can understand the situation and in a time when many legal firms are glorified call centres, WD are professional, organised and precise. I never had to chase or correct them.
Love this more please . 3.5 years and counting waiting for compensation after car driver went through red light and i broke my right arm . The courts are backed up .
I really love this series, some of the best videos you guys produce
Been riding just over a year and I can’t put in to words how much I appreciate this series. Whilst giving me real world riding knowledge it gives me confidence to know if anything happens out of my control that I can call on experts like Gavin
Two things here, and I urge all bikers and upstanding citizens to do this: if you witness a failure to stop, follow the offender. Do NOT try to apprehend, call 999. Follow casually, at a safe distance, and get the registration number. Do NOT approach the offender. If you witness an accident, contact the police with car registration and make and model. If more of us help, fewer of us will end up out of pocket to go with our injuries.
I also believe insurance companies/offenders should be made to compensate for the extra premiums we pay for 5 years after as a result of being involved even in a non-fault rtc.
This is why I run cameras on my motorbike! I really enjoy your legal vids!
About 20 years ago a dude reversed into my brand new, parked, R1 and drove off. He got away with it even though I had a witness. The cop gave me his address. I went out to his beautiful home with 4, 2 gallon sprayers filled with round-up and walked around spraying everything, front and back until I was dry. Then I left.
I like your style
I got hit deliberately in a bus lane, car driver made off. Was all caught on the council's traffic cameras. The council would not release the footage to me. My insurance did not want to pay £20 for the footage, claiming that it is a risk they are not willing to take. I reported the incident to the police, they apparently found the driver and gave them words of advice. And they provided me with details a the driver for a completely different incident. Chased this up with the police, no answer at all from them.
love these as much as the other content
Always hard to watch but it's a good thing to talk about.
Glad everyone involved got their dues.
White Dalton are brilliant solicitors... They got my back after I was Punted off my bike into a dry stone wall by a tipper truck in the Lake District...
100% professional and fantastic communications via email. Awesome dudes
Excellent & very interesting legal vid as ever. Keep them coming.
Would you believe it, I had a hit and run done on me just today. Best video at the best time! Thanks.
Shiiiiiit! Hope you’re ok
@@FortyFourTeeth absolutely fine. Have emailed 'the lads' already. Copper said it looked like an oven ready bird as it was directly under a CCTV pole!
I would never do what the 1st rider did. That is not filtering. That is undertaking. There was no standstill traffic. You should be doing about 10 mph or so to filter. Sorry. Would not do that at all.
Undertaking is when you are on the left side of the vehicle you are passing, both riders were on the right side so I don't get how you think this is undertaking?
Interesting bits of information here, really good
I had a very similar situation to the second video happen to me on a test less than 50m away from the dealership. Essentially there were road works ahead, which meant there was a huge queue of cars pretty much stationary. Anyways, as I was filtering through the middle, a car decided it was a good time to make a U turn. Luckily there was a gap in oncoming traffic at the time and I was going slow enough that I was able to swerve around the car. Funnily enough, the car that almost hit me was also a 3 series. This taught me a lesson about filtering through queued up traffic where drivers could get frustrated and take rash actions. Also people don't use their mirrors when stationary in a queue of traffic. Be very wary of this on your rides guys. Ride safe.
Really enjoy watching these legal videos. Keep up the good work
i was in a hit and run in december, all the police had to do was get CCTV footage from one of the shops it happend in front or an ambulance that saw it to get me the reg, but after 6 months i got a letter saying it was too dificult
Oh well suck it up
This is one of my favourite segments. Well done!
Always great to see White Dalton and hear some of these (horror) stories
Yet another great vid thanks guys
Please do more of these!
Really enjoying these videos and would definitely be calling Dalton White If I ever need to.
22 years ago now but I was knocked off my bike by a car driver who did a uturn while I was over taking stationery traffic. I did a no win no fee, it was before the days of cameras but I luckily had witnesses and their insurance paid out before it went to court.
Unbelievably, a clear case of hit and run back in July by a road rage driver resulted in a truly lamentable investigation and pathetic prosecution by Northumbria Police who took a staggering 10 days just to come and look at the helmet GoPro footage. Yesterday, eventually, they called to tell me the driver had been charged with......careless driving and a grand total of zero points on his licence! But, oh, he has to pay a £150 to attend a careless driving course. And he felt aggrieved at having to do that draconian punishment, I was informed! Pathetic beyond compare.
This after physically hitting me bodily with the SUV, knocking me right off my bike, causing £400 of damage and minor injuries, but no broken bones, to myself, failing to stop and just driving off.
I expressed my dissatisfaction and feedback, needless to say, as I was listening, incredulous, as she opined that her senior officer who decided upon the charge felt this was sufficient, especially as ( I kid you not ) the driver had no prior convictions and I was not 'seriously' injured! The clear traffic violation of a 'hit and run', this officer is seemingly unfamiliar with. The driver, when interviewed, gave them a load of bollocks about not seeing his car hit me (yeah, right), which they apparently unbelievably swallowed. My clear GoPro footage it would appear they had difficulty prioritising over his cock and bull excuse.
I called White Dalton shortly after the accident. Who - whilst they felt because my injuries were minor ( recoverable within 2 weeks) and the bike damage not much more than my excess they consequently could not recommend they take the case on - were simply marvelous in detailing a small claims course of action I can pursue myself against the driver's insurance company. I can not recommend White Dalton enough and a big shout out to Robert Dransfield for his helpful expertise.
Oh, the bike in the thumbnail is the same model bike I was knocked off, BMW F650 by looks of!
Out of interest, if it was an intentional act by the car driver, why did the police not go down the route of dangerous driving and/or criminal damage?
Great content as always.
More please. I find these very informative and give you some good info o what could happen to me if I was unfortunate enough to end up in a no fault accident. I don't have legal insurance, based on the fact that if I was knocked off my bike I'd want someone like W&D to manage my case👍
Appreciate these vids 👍🏼
Can you ask how councils get away with covering the roads with loose stones when redressing a road?
That’s definitely on the list
@@FortyFourTeeth it's just the cheapest option for them and they are all doing it, spray on dressing followed with loose stone and allow trafic to bed it in then chippings are ment to be swept up after the allotted time for the binder to harden it's said that it makes the road safer? but I have found it to hold water on the surface this includes all the spilt oil and fuel and also freezes faster during the winter due to the above also prevents road salt to work as effectively due to it's smoother surface
More onus should be put on not putting yourself in a situation to have a crash tbh instead of worrying about who's right and who's wrong.
I was hit last year with by a bloke with the best excuse to leave quickly I’ve ever heard made sure I was all good had his info then said “sorry mate if your ok I’ve got to go I’m an ice cream man and I’ve got a load of ice cream in the car melting so got to get it to a freezer” wasn’t thinking straight (a bit of pain ) otherwise I would of asked for one 😂😂
These videos are so good
Next time I'm in a sticky situation, I'm calling Gav !
Travelling to the UK, being mindful of bikes being allowed to filter is always the one thing I try to respect
Especially in town!
The biggest surprise I had was a electric unicycle lane filtering at about 20mph
@@noname-wo9yy That's just Nige mate, he's a professional.
to the first case : the Audi owner MUST say who was driven at this moment because the owner must see the driving license before the keys handed out ! also the judgement can make forced detention for a while which is documented in the owner CV - a life long
Surely there would have been some damage to the TT? I cannot believe that some people deny all accountability in such a serious accident, especially when there’s literally a video showing them doing it. Some people just have no shame!
I got my bike knocked over in a parking lot, driver drove off, witnesses, CCTV but no license plate at the time of the incident. Reported to police, chased for CCTV, MIB... nada... never seen anything for it, police filed case after sending email to Sainsburys...
Thanks for the video
I love your contents.
Do most other bikers really consider that first one to be normal everyday filtering? No chance i would be filtering at that speed in that scenario. That's not to say the collision wasn't the TT drivers fault, just that to me it wasn't a particularly safe or "normal" piece of filtering, unlike the second video, which is how filtering (to me) is meant to be done i.e. slowly and cautiously past slow moving or stopped traffic.
I do like these ones
My step mum as a passenger years ago was knocked off on a dual carriageway, spent 3 months in hospital. Bent the knee the wrong way, shattered kneecap etc.
The drunk driver didn't stop.
Luckily the drunk driver crashed a few miles up the road without hitting anyone else he just went off the road.
So finding him wasn't a problem, but that was 30 years ago before dash cams anpr etc.
I can tell you as a London biker, there are few crazy bikers that take silly risks for sure but some of the drivers are just utter scum, I've had my parked bikes in motorcycle bays hit and run on like 4 occasions from sheer incompetence.
In the second video the rider broke the rule 165 “You MUST NOT overtake the nearest vehicle to a pedestrian crossing, especially when it has stopped to let pedestrians cross.” (That Jordanian guy ignores this all the time too. 😉). It didn’t have any effect on the incident however.
Imagine if someone left the car on hazard lights just before the crossing… the rule makes some sense but after the stop before the crossing and making sure there are no pedestrians you should be free to go just as he did. I’m sure any half decent judge will see it this way. If not that’s a bit of a dick move.
Both good outcomes and obviously good advice. Maybe the other guys solicitors werent as switched on as maybe they shouldve been? Charge enough imho, lol.
I suspect White Dalton have members in the lodge
The more cases like these I see, the more I just think we should not bother with being legit. Get an old bike, on false plates with no insurance or docs & just fail to stop if ever there's an issue 🤷🏽♂️ most forces won't pursue you & the courts wont do you even if you were caught...
Alway interesting and educational lads 👍 I'd like to hear if Gavin has any information on cycle grids/box at traffic lights can motorcycles enter? loose animals/dogs chasing bikes, horse riders and cyclists causing accidents, damage or injuries
Never thought of scenarios like this, would love to see a video on things like this living in a town surrounded by cyclists, horses and (c)hunts
In the case of the second accident the insurance paid out because by law they have to, if the vehicle is identified, the insurance company covering that vehicle are required to pay any third party claims regardless of who is driving, so if for example you let an uninsured mate ride your bike and he crashes it any third party can claim against your insurance, and they must pay out, the insurance will then sue the insured to recover the cost due to the insured's negligence in allowing his mate to ride the bike without insurance,
in the first instance due to not having the full registration number of the car the insurance company denied it was the car they insured , the insurance database now gives easy access to identify which insurance company is insuring any vehicle and so a claim can be brought against the insurers of any vehicle, provided it is positively identified, for third party damages even if the driver cannot be identified
I love a cuppa of wd 40 in the morning. MIB sucks from the sounds of it.
strange cases happen. I got a notice from an insurer that I crashed my car into someone's car. They freaking didn't even check that their driver either had given them a wrong registration number or the guy who crashed his car into their driver's car had a fake number plate. turns out mine is a motorbike. And I still had to prove that it wasn't me. Haven't heard from them since then
Check it's not down as a claim against you - insurers don't legally have to tell you there is a claim against you at the time it's made. Friend had this & despite reporting it as a fraudulent claim, it got paid out anyway 🤷🏽♂️ he lost his NCB & had to declare a claim for a crash that he was never involved in.
South East London bordering Kent.
I never managed to have a succesful hit and run... I always end up crashing my bike and beating the shit out of myself.....
I think I'll stop doing them, it hurts like hell..
I like this type of video
Thankfully my Grom doesn’t go fast enough, to get into a speed issue but man alive I’ve had some close calls , mainly buses and amber gamblers.. stay safe out there viewers..
My bike got hit while it was parked someone got half the registration and the description of the driver. I reported it to the police and happened to a car drive pass me that matched the description and had a nice dent in the back, gave the police the full registration for them just to tell me to go through my insurance and did nothing for the driver. unfortunately I paid all the repairs out of pocket as I cant have another claim with me due to my career path as I'm currently dealing with a claim from two and a half years ago being rear ended on my bike with no end in site sadly. Wish all the people that do hit and runs get dealt with properly as most seem to get away with it
no idea what Gav was saying, I got lost in his eyes, such a dreamboat........Al cleaned up ok I guess....... I'll be going to WD for sure, great stuff.
The second one is lucky in a way, they could just claimed it was my cousin from aboard driving and his gone back home. In some cities that is a very real risk😮
Very important to know your rights and get a good lawyer.
(did not expect a series to be reported) 1)Been riding most of my life. It was a 50/50. Both being too reckless.
2) Been there :(
That first bike has an endorsement for the. Lid gear and boots he was wearing.
Its easy have a front and rear camera on your helmet then you can report the driver.
I’m surprised there was no damage to the TT?
I was hit by a deer in Jan this year, can I sue the deer’s family? (The deer in question was dead as)
Al doesn't seem very enthusiastic about this today 😂
Would it be fair to say that you should get a photo of the driver at the time of an accident so that there's no way they can deny who was driving?
Assuming of course they don't just bugger off like this and you haven't caught them any other way?
I ride with a camera on my helmet rather than fixed to the bike so if i was to have an incident like this and managed even a brief face to face with the driver there's a good chance I'd have a video frame of their face.
Is that something that would help to confirm the identity of a driver if they are otherwise being difficult with fake names and what not?
I was just wondering would anyone know with the first video if the bike would be making an insurance claim on the car and the taxi as both vehicles hit him or would the taxi be exempt?
I would think it would be the other way around. The bike "hit" the taxi, after being hit by the TT, so I would assume if there was damage to the taxi that their insurer would put in a claim against her biker, who no doubt would pass on the costs to the TT driver, once they were ruled to have been driving. It's just my view, not certain about it.
No fail to stop report for the first incident?...
👍
What does it matter if it was a hyper sports bike? Does that make it OK to knock the rider off?
well was the rider filtering safely? the taxi is moving quite fast, so the biker is even faster and if you cant stop in a distance you see to be safe, then you risk getting involved in a collision. its risk vs reward, i personally filter up to 20mph, once traffic is going faster, i join in to a lane and wait for it to slow down again or speed up to normal speeds for that road. its saved my butt many times, i have had the time to catch a late lane change from a vehicle and slow and wait to see if they commit to it or see me and cancel their lane change.
there is a case that i wish i could remember the name of, it was in Motorcycle news law colom about 10 years ago, and the judge deeemed 20mph as a limit to what speed you should filter at. i dont think the rider was filtering safely as going to fast for the conditions and could of avoided this collision. still doesnt make it ok for the car to move lane and hit the biker.
Chin strap failed... or was fastened before setting off...
@13:35 It's not the wrong side ... it's the other side ;)
Think Gavin didn't get the hairdresser/tt quip...
I think he was deep in thought 😂
ABC - Always Bring Camera. Saved my butt on 3 occasions in London. The last one I was rear ended at red lights with bike being left stuck on the bumper now located between the sit and the back wheel. 4 wanna be gangster inside tried then to reverse to release their car. They did it with such force they hit the white van behind smashing both cars. Things went flying. My bike of course sustained further damage when falling. The driver then said his just going to park on the side of the road and… this is the last we saw of him. Later the insurance owner of the car claimed the car was stolen that morning but this was proven incorrect with the camera footage of his fast and furious mess. ABC
The first video looks to me like the bike is filtering in the rain at night. He’s accelerating past the car to his left and the Audi doesn’t see him at all. Under those circumstances, the rider put himself in a really bad spot and wasn’t being smart or safe given the conditions. I hope he’s okay. Let that be a lesson to the rest of us. On a bike, at night, on the motorway, in the rain, you can’t afford to ride like you own the place.
In the first one, surely the Audi TT (such a shit car) would have had damage to the nearside?
Filtering in Cornwall During the Summer Season is an Art in its Self, when i do Filter, be it on my Gixer 600 or my Superb CBR250R it's usually when the Traffic is at a Standstill, if the the Traffic starts moving anything above 5 - 10 MPH i will Tuck in behind the Queue and always in the Middle of the Lane that we are in Following the Vehicle in Front.
From what i see in London on UA-cam it's Like One Big Whakky Races.
Middle of the lane gives you nowhere to go if rear ended. Fair play not filtering, but choose a side!
Nice video, i’m surprised that you still can have a ownership of a car and not have it insured.. in my country you just can’t, if it is registered then automatically roadtaxes is sent to you and you can not have it not insured.. loophole is though; unless you arrange it to be not on the public road officially.. but if it photographed on a road camera somewhere you are in big trouble
There’s always a way round anything. Insurance for cars is a legal requirement in the UK, but people sell cars without any documents etc for little money and if something happens they just leave them. Likewise OGC’s have pool cars etc. All of which sucks of course.
that presumption needs to be changed. Also the made-up-name loophole - needs to be an offence under the fraud act. In fact, it is, isn't it? Using a false name on an official document??
It is...but who are you gonna go after to charge with the offence? 🤷🏽♂️
The first video, the biker shouldn’t have put himself in that situation.
2:35 - I mean, maybe the Met should stop doing things wrong (because it's not like those stories are made up, the Met confirm them all). The GSXR rider "filtering" (he was lane splitting) past an overtaking car was an absolute moron. There is no way the TT driver could have seen them at night, their headlight would have just looked like the taxi's headlight.
Audi is bad enough followed bt TT always cnuts
It's almost always an Audi or BMW - the car brand of choice for the absolute c*nt (and bad driver)!!!
Every one of these videos I gotta wonder what on earth these bikers are doing to put themselves in these positions.
I get they might be in the right but they do put themselves in some awful situations and take some stupid risks.
They're not usually stupid risks as most London drivers expect bikes to filter. That said, at night and/or in the rain I'm more cautious about it. Ride to the conditions.
Al, I also got a careless driving for going the wrong side of the bollard - but I was in my 40s on a GS. I don't do it now, even when it's very tempting.
Yep that first video brings gaps=traps to mind
But F that driver who didn't stop
Gav I've just been caught pulling a dirty minger past an unmarked car. What's my options 😂
Glad he explained that the R6,was a yamahar and not the Honda 😂😢😅
Until you go in the bus lanes and the cameras suddenly work wonders with identifying numbers plate with a lovely letter and fine to pay. Funny that. 😅
