It's always struck me as strange that non-key issues routinely sell for 50cents to $2. If they were purchased at the time of their original release because the buyer loved comics and was buying for the story and art, why do they sell for so much less than cover price? Or maybe just a little less to compensate for minor wear? I think the business of grading, especially grading by CGC has relegated great art and stories back to the "read it then line your bird cage, or trash it" perception that existed before the concept of collecting for investing existed. It seems that the whole industry is focused primarily on the potential profit of a book, compared to the simple joy of reading them. I enjoyed comics a lot more when I was a kid. I think the older I get, the more sad I become because of this shift. 😢
It’s strange the industry is overly focus on keys and first appearance that determines the high value. I have many comics that I consider priceless because of art and storyline and yet are worthless to investors. Hey I am enjoying buying this old comics at cheap prices before investors wake up and realize there’s more great stuff out there under the radar!
Don't confuse the comics industry, which actually produces the comics, with the "collectibles aftermarket." And remember, there's more to the comics hobby than slabbing and "investment." Return on Investment is not the be-all and end-all of this hobby.
@@josephbarbera9220 I’m in the same boat. I found a Detective Comics 666 a few months ago for a couple of bucks. It’s not a key, but it was my first Batman comic when I was a kid, and the cover by Kelley Jones is amazing. It was in amazing shape and definitely worth $2, at least to me.
totally agree I enjoy the content hence why I wacthed this channel. But with other comic book channels everyone just talk about key this key that however they never read the actually comic. Some people knows all the keys in an x-men run but never read a classic like the dark phoenix. Another thing is that people pulled a "key" out of the run to sell it at higher price and that make completely the run much must more expensive.
I've always lived by the rule that price does not dictate quality. Most of my collection, before the age of digital comics, was reprints, tpbs or sub 5.0 copies. I was there to read the stories. That is in no way dismissing the noble 'sport' of collecting the 9.8's. I'm a proud, long term member of this group even though I do not indulge myself.
Just wanted to say hi and let you know that you inspired me with your Green Lantern collection. I love She-Hulk, and had a number of them already slabbed, so I decided to register my collection and finish slabbing the run. As of today, I now have the number one collection of Sensational She-Hulk in the registry! Much easier to achieve than Green Lantern, for certain. It was fun to do and feels great. Now I want to improve it and, maybe, do Savage She-Hulk next. Thanks for the inspiration and content.
Even back in 1975 I wondered what the Champions' reason for being was: Marvel had lots of teams, they even had a non-team with the Defenders, so were the Champions a non-non-team? Still, I enjoyed all 15 issues and particularly liked Swarm as a villain despite his nonsense origin ("a Nazi made of bees" is essentially right). Steranko and Nick Fury: what a glorious match. Doesn't Spidey kill a woman by accident in Spider-Man vs. Wolverine? Were there ever any repercussions from this? What If? had some mediocre stories but when it hit the mark the stories were excellent. And I liked that the Watcher acted as host, it reminded me of Rod Serling introducing and wrapping up each episode of The Twilight Zone. David Mack's DD covers are stunning and his Kabuki is one of the great works of non-superhero comics.
I mentioned in another UA-cam video the Champions from the Bronze Age are my next target. In the meantime I have been completing Master of Ku Fu and Warrens Vampirella run.
Dude your channel has been so helpful. I’m new to the collector game and been battling with how to start, what to buy, what to look for etc. You have really helped me out. ❤
Neat! Cool to see you run through a box that I own at least half of for once! I actually just got a 9.8 of that Spider-Man Special Edition on a CGC pre-screen submission! Whoot!
Hey bro have to disagree with you there. X-men Vol.1 has a LOT of keys besides the four you mentioned. When it becomes New X-men and Grant Morrison takes over, that run is chock full of keys, some worth more than the books you listed in the video including the 1st appearances of Fantomex, Cassandra Nova, Dust and a bunch of others. It has a different title but still is part of the same series.
@@MintHunterComics The App I'm using lists New Xmen and the "90's Xmen" book as being part of the same volume. That's how it gets up to 200 plus issues. Grant Morrisson's run is part of that same volume.

Silver and Bronze Age are way more than 50 cent bin! But over-printed moderns? Psssshht

I love the OG What If series. They were all high as hell when they made those 😂

That's amazing to hear! thank for sharing! I re-read the Geoff Johns Omnibuses every year!
I was so happy to find the X-Men first appearance of Onslaught from the $1 bins late last year!
Love Swarm, one of my favorite C/D tier villains
First time I heard of swarm is when J Jonah mentions Swarm in the 2018 video game!
Very nice haul you got there. You are blessed to be able to get your hands on such great books. Keep on hunting James.
It's a full time job!

They're the best! it's actually a solid read too

That's awesome to hear!!!!
Most of those Nick Fury books appear to be Mark Jeweler variants. Note the small star shaped stamps.
I did notice that, and while it does mean it was sold on a military base, mark jewelers did not yet exist in the 60s

There's a few gradables in here for sure!
Do you think you would get into making reviews of comic movies? I think you could break down a movie or show pretty well. Maybe worth a shot.
Every time I've tried the videos fail - I sorta stopped doing it
Hard to find a Set of SHIELD great pick up!
It's my favorite part of the batch!
Those are some really sweet books. Enjoy them.
Thank you!
great key hauls, bro. get it, key hauls ? keel haul. lol.
Nice play on words ya pirate!
Enjoy your date! Rough is an understatement on that movie 😂
It wasn't great hahaaaha
Awesome!
Thank you! Cheers!
I like the original Warlock series.
Same!
Great books. Enjoy.
Thanks!
Champions, Champions, Champions !
I have a 9.8 of issue 1! it's such a cool book
It's pronounced "sin-KAY-vitch", I think.
Gimme those Nick Furys!
Aren't they sick? the back half were in really nice condition too!
Madame Web may be the worst comic related movie ever made. You gonna owe your wife a 5 star dinner for sitting thru that...
She HATED it. I liked it more than her and I’d still say at best it was a 4/10. Def not worse than several other comic movies
sync-o-vick
so I STILL didn't pronounce it right? Goddang it
Minthunter and Very Gary, the Gordon Gekko’s of comics - Blue Horseshoe loves Anacott Steel 🤪
I have zero idea what any of that meant but thanks I think!
@@MintHunterComics lol it’s a quote from the movie Wall Street

I think you’re describing “New X-Men” the 90s X-men has very few keys over the $10 mark
