Well, if we can learn anything from this video it's the fact that maybe we're sending in too many books to be slabbed. Most of those are not worth the hassle of slabbing.
Yikes. For the most part, the 9.6 books don’t have enough demand to move at cost (I assume cost to be raw book +40) because the 9.8’s are cheap enough. I think you’re going to have a difficult time moving any of the first two stacks, even if you price them at $50 each. You also need to consider how much of your time it’s going to take. Your time is valuable too.
$30 to $50 slabs are hard to sell... they weigh a pound a piece, first class postage is like $10 to $15... prohibitive. Dealers don't want them - (they're too heavy to transport to shows, take up too much space at the shows, and in the stores). I believe there's a wave coming where slabbed books are going to be worth less than raw... no one wants 1,000 slabs in their collection - and when people age-out, these things are going to be an even bigger drag to deal with. Sell them for what you can get for them as quickly as possible, or they're going to be $10 books. Anyway, that's my take.
Bingo... I've been dumping my slabs and removing the valuable ones from the slabs into raw format... SO tired of this slab nonsense and grading by some very subjective grading by a bunch of unknow "Professionals"...
I finished watching the video. You've got some good stuff there. Don't dismiss a comic book just because you're unfamiliar with it. Remember, one man's trash is another man's treasure. Do your homework on each of those. Anyway, you're building your channel and at the very least you've got a few more videos to make from that stack. Now go work a few weekends of overtime to make up for your shopping spree. Ha, ha, ha.
A lot of these are dollar bin slabs. Not worth it imo. I thought you don’t like buying modern books that have little to no return value. This is the equivalent of you going to new comic book day and picking up every variant which you say you can’t stand those who do that. I’m confused by this purchase from you
Haters will hate! 🤷🏼♂️ atleast he has cash to spend and be happy, you sound like the type that works for a living just to cover the bills and be broke as hell after, or the spoiled brat living in your parents basement 😂
Grading and slabbing comics was originally designed for 1st appearances and key issues but now it seems people are getting pretty much everything graded.
Correct and sadly people are putting 3 dollar books in slabs with no value at all and hoping to get 80 to 100 bucks. This turns stomach as I've been collecting big boy books for 30 years
Those are the types of books you find in mystery boxes with the chance of getting a big key. Probably your best chance at moving them and making back your money plus some.
I would suggest that when you have around 3k to spend on comics buy one or two really good ones that have a history of going up in price or is consistent in pricing. Get GPA analysis and research the sells for the books you buy. GPA has been one of the most important resources we have personally used when buying and selling comics. I think much of the spec stuff for garbage books and 3rd rate characters is dead and will stay dead for a good while. I would stay away from all that and focus on books with a stable history. I hope you do well on selling these, but I think its going to be really hard work and you will probably lose some money. Just learn from it and try not to buy stuff without research first. We have been impulsive and it's gotten us into trouble before too lol.
this grading comics has gotten out of hand! people grade anything, thinking it will be a financial positive! Only keys should be grade in my opinion ,everything else will be a waste
100% would've spent that on a single $3000 dollar book or a few keys. I think you can recover costs, but for the time invested to move them I can't imagine it would be worth it in the end.
I feel it’s just part of being a comic collector. I have 4 kids and spending a money on my PC is difficult. We try to find ways to flip other books to further our passion. Don’t overthink it my friend it will balance out in the end and you will have some cool books to show for it.
I don’t know why they slabbed all these books or why the comic shop even bought these from people. Not very smart business. If you maybe had someone move them for you on what not you might be able to make some money back or through them up as a lot on eBay and try to make a couple hundred profit at like 3700 or something but they will probably sit for awhile.
I would say that in this market paying $60 for a bulk lot of slabs, they would have to be CGCs and 9.6 at the least (moderns). So at a first glance I would say not a good deal. With that said some books you make exceptions for. The Malibu sun IMO is one of those books. With the Crow, BA 12 and MS Spawn your at $2k. That leaves 48 slabs at $21 (below grading price). All in all not bad
You will be hard press for that math of what you keep and what you sell to get back to the 3k purchase price that being said. Your friend will make up for the generosity at some point. Thanks for the vid.
Love your channel, some of my favorite comic content to watch on youtube. Kept waiting for you to pull a fast one on us and say "fooled you!" and that you hadnt really bought these for 3 grand. Since you asked, i think this was a big mistake from the financial aspect and surprised you pulled the trigger. But please, keep putting out great content!!!
Wow, most of that lot is pretty rough and most of them don't have much value. In fact I checked Cover Price on some of them and if anything some of them are actually worth more raw than in a 9.8 (i.e. that Batman #1 Jim Lee foil cover). The Crow #1 is definitely one of my grail books that I hope to own someday, so congrats on that one.
Probably ended up being a fair deal at best, but I'm looking at it from the perspective of how long it'll take to move. Finding Journey into Mystery/Thor of that era always catches my interest, and the Star Wars 1 isn't bad either.
I only collect 9.6 slabs so some of those are right up my alley lol but you’re averaging $59 per slab so some might be able to make up a good chunk of that. Hard to say.
Sticky Goose, I dunno about these slabbed books...none of them sang to me - maybe that first appearance of Harley, maybe that Malibu Sun book BUT - hey, you helped out a friend and what could be wrong with that ? You did the guy a solid.
I think it's time to stop giving 9.6's so much hate. They're sometimes hundreds of dollars less than a 9.8 and they might have one additional blemish than a 9.8. They're still very high-grade books. I've even seen some comics where a raw copy sells for more than a 9.6. I just don't get the lack of interest. At least with a 9.6 I KNOW what I'm getting.
A bunch of books with little to no market demand. Just because a book is slabbed doesn't mean that it automatically has value. A good lesson for people to pay attention to.
You got a good deal, if those were raw books the cost to have them all graded is $1500, so that's half the purchase price right there, and there are some good books in there that will sell and you'll get your money back or more I think.
Ifi had 3 gsto spend I would buy 2 asm 300 news stand or a asm 50 . So mmm the slabs I seen did interested me outher then the bat girl 12. My thoughts is bad deal. Sorry u asked.😮😮
Most of the value came at the end of the video but there's some decent keys. I'd try to bundle most of that bulk with a bigger key and see what happens on ebay. Good luck !
You know for someone who was trying to move them quick, I mean 3k for the seller was great. Yeah it’s right at making your money back, but it all depends on your intention with this collection. 1. You helped out a friend 2. If it’s majority things you don’t collect, you can use it as trade for bigger books. Of course the comic community, ppl are probably already asking for a few. The Crow and Malibu Sun were fantastic. Hurts that Batman FOIL is a 9.6. Are you listing it anywhere? I may be interested. I also noticed he probably submitted at a time where he couldn’t prescreen a lot of those. So sure, maybe in a 9.8 they would’ve been better movers but hard to say what CGC will give you. Cheers for the video and content
You broke even on the value just because theyre slabbed but these are gonna be some hard books to move if you plan on making a profit. Those 1st 2 stacks were....not good. The 3rd stack was definitely better but man....I hope he was a good friend and you were just helping him out. You can get your money back but itll be a game of patience.
James does quite a few shows in the midwest. I would try to get the Crow books signed and witnessed to increase the value and collectibility. Same for the Malibu if you can catch Todd at a show.
No, you didn't screw up. It's only 3000 bucks. I've spent more than that at topless bars. Ha, ha, ha. The only slabs I buy are CGC though. Keep the best for yourself and sell the rest of it. But not at a loss okay. You just may be holding on to them a little longer. Honestly, I've always preferred raw books for the most part.
I agree with folks. You probably do have some gems. Just patiently go through them. A nice chunk of change you spent there. Not an impulse move I think I would have had the stomach for.
Without looking up the price i tend to only pay a max of $50 CAD (with shipping) per slabbed book and only slab ones from my collection I want to protect. I tend to go with CGC and CBCS. There are a few but not many I like in the collection. The Maxx being one I like but not a huge value book.
If you love the newer books, great!, I don't have any of those because I'm not a "newer book" collector. Champions #1 was a good pick, hulk also, the gold ff book looks like a reprint, moon knight is the first Stephen platt, it's his best art to date imo.defenders 9 is cool, Kirby Thor is nice, James o barr crow is good,

Either it needs to be in the top 100 graded copies on the census or it is simply not special and not rare, unless find the right person - but who wants to do that...

Hi hope all is well. Great videos. I was wondering if I can have your opinion or thoughts on ASM 129 . I’m trying to get it for my pc but at the same I will like to have it as investment. What’s the lowest grade u think is worth getting . Thank you and be safe
Ouch.. I love the channel but yikes. There was a few good books there but most of them the grades were rough for the age of the books. All Ill say is good luck dude. You might get lucky and move them and break even or get close to even.
@@richardolney1822 I've had a professional clean and press. He didn't advise trying to remove it since CGC would probably notice and give a purple label. I guess if can remove like dirt without scratch the staple. I've had 10 years and it's no worse. It is what it is I guess.
So to break even, you need an average of $58. I don’t see that but there are a few near the end that I would say bring the average up but overall most will be with you forever. Don’t think you lost money overall.
IMO! If you average thirty dollars a book, grading all those books would cost $1,500.00. The Crow #1 and Malibu Sun have an FMV of $1,400.00. So, you recouped your investment, in a sense. Honestly, many of those books will sit for a while. (Even the Silver Age books.) You made an all-right deal. Time will tell if it was a good one.
My Two Sense Is That I Personally Don't Collect Newer Stuff Like That So In My Mind All Those Books Are Not Worth The Paper Their Printed On, And Not Worth The 3K You Paid For That.
Hey, nothing wrong with buying anything, really! I am not going to tell anyone how to spend their money! That's for sure! I mean 51 slabs for $58.83 a piece, that's case cost, so its not really like your losing out on anything. My line of thinking however is that I would of been burying some sweet ass raw silver age books to clean, press, and slab. But we all got different motives. I am not a big modern book guy, but i have sold a lot of modern books, and i can tell you, you will sell those half naked babe books quick, people do love that crap, its a niche. Any artist stuff like the Jim Lee will sell quickly. I would bull sell all that in multiple lot's.
I'm no expert, but seems like most of those are very new(ish) and probably not worth that much. A few are definitely good. Not sure I'd pay nearly that much for the lot.
In the words of Regie Collects, you caught a lot of bricks. The fact that you're planning on cracking books to resubmit is adding to your overall costs. In addition, you're going to spend valuable TIME to sell off those bricks. You did get a handful of nice Keys, but your money and time would have been better spent by seeking those books individually in the open market.
Yeah, you screwed up. You screwed up good and hard. Some are decent but the grades just aren't there. If you saw those books sitting in a raw pile, would you think $3000?
I don't even know if this is real dude! Or are you going after someone here! 😂😂 Don't get me wrong! I like it! There are good and bad in the the comic "fam" and nobody is above parody! 😂

Star wars #1 at 6.5 could be a 400 bucks comic

Rusty staples will hit you hard on grading.
@@uglyewok6715 Just surface discolour and not near the paper so hopefully not to much.
@@richardolney1822 I've had a professional clean and press. He didn't advise trying to remove it since CGC would probably notice and give a purple label. I guess if can remove like dirt without scratch the staple. I've had 10 years and it's no worse. It is what it is I guess.
Modern (last 10 years) Slabs are so hard to move right now
Pandemic slabbing post pandemic selling.
I think you did kind of ok. Its like 59 dollars a book. Maybe get the 1600 back with a little extra, maybe.
So to break even, you need an average of $58. I don’t see that but there are a few near the end that I would say bring the average up but overall most will be with you forever.
Don’t think you lost money overall.
Maybe
Bro said "Hide your Kids, hide your Wife" lmao.
He gonna get you
SORRY FOR THE CAPS: I'D BE INTERESTED IN THE ZENESCOPE SLABS
Already sold
He paid $59 a book average too much I think. A few books are great but the rest are $30 slabs
Malibu sun 13 9.2 goa is $511 . The crow is $675 90 day . He still did fine .
Yeah, finessing at its finest. Just buy the books you want and not the 80 percent trash.
If you would have gotten a Youngblood # 1 In a 9.0 cbcs you would've hit the jackpot 😅
What's the first harley fmv in that grade if you know off hand?
If you are interested in it message me
Ouch, the face you’re making is full of regret lol. Happens to the best of us!
My Two Sense Is That I Personally Don't Collect Newer Stuff Like That So In My Mind All Those Books Are Not Worth The Paper Their Printed On, And Not Worth The 3K You Paid For That.
Not bad, only $60 per book which is slightly above case/grading costs.
Hit me up the next time you come to Roanoke for the weekend Ill show you some places to go.
I don't understand the slab world
I don't understand how a modern comic is worth the cost of grading
I'm no expert, but seems like most of those are very new(ish) and probably not worth that much. A few are definitely good. Not sure I'd pay nearly that much for the lot.
Try Hip comics you take a pic value your comics... its free...
I thought the rule was don't buy what the breadman tells you to buy. 🤪
I bought bread
That Batgirl book is worth money
So how do I check out the comics that you have for sale?
They all are in this video message me on Instagram or email
Probably worth 3K but don’t see turning a profit on them and getting your money back would take a long time and lot of effort shipping
Almost already there
Cool you helped out your friend but that wasn't a great deal for you. I don't know why he slabbed all those non-keys books. 😢
Not resubmitting anything
... why slab a not so hot book.... makes me wonder... it's almost like sending a green lantern in to be slabbed...😮
I would have bought the 2 you wanted for $1,400.00. 🌟
Ive been looking for The Crow books, hard to find.
$60 each is a bit much. Maybe sell some $100 mystery boxes with these along with nice raw books so you can recover your investment.
I will not sell mystery boxes
I'd be interested in the Totally Awesome Hulk 22
message me on instagram or email please
hosed
Are you moving the crow and Batman adventures?

WOW…what a collection!!!!!👍👍👍👍you did great. You hit it out of the park. Best collection EVAAAR!!!!
Are you serious?
@@ccculture9681 you must be a millennial and have zero capability to detect satire.
@@uglyewok6715 you are wrong
@@ccculture9681 nah… you clearly can’t determine satire. Live with it.
I think I would just buy the 2 you really want. A lot of the rest may take a long time to move
What printing was the crow?
First print

So, you pull the handfull that are worth keeping, move the rest against your 3000 cost, and then tell me what the deal is all about.
Yeah, you screwed up. You screwed up good and hard. Some are decent but the grades just aren't there. If you saw those books sitting in a raw pile, would you think $3000?
Iso entry level Dr Doom slabs. (low grades)
The last stack saved you. The first two stacks were a little cringey.
Dont really trust any graded companies beyond CGC + CBCS ..
I don't even know if this is real dude! Or are you going after someone here! 😂😂
Don't get me wrong! I like it! There are good and bad in the the comic "fam" and nobody is above parody! 😂
its all real.....
I couldn't finish watching this, but from what I saw in the first 10 minutes you're going to have a really hard time breaking even.
Already profit
@@Stickygoose ok,good job!
