    Great - simple and easy for ppl that don't have major tools.

    I really enjoyed the video. It shows what needs to be done and workable solutions, and the shooting was good. I like your narration as well. Most importantly, this is a good craft project and you made the template available. I'm now going to check in my pallets to see if I have a match, and if not I'll take my trailer to the furniture dealer again. Thank you for sharing. BTW I like that you pointed out the issue with bulb and hand size and the top of the lamp.

    I am watching this video almost 4 years after you posted. Very nice lamp. I am hoping that since you are making more projects, you were able to explain to your wife that you needed to purchase addition power tools. That miter saw was something else but it did the job.

    This is a totally fantastic, easy and fun project! I don't have any experience with wiring anything, but your instructions were definitely clear and made that part of the process look absolutely doable. I'm planning on acquiring a bandsaw for my apartment, and I was curious about what type you have, and whether you would recommend it (ease of use, good cut quality, and "quiet-for-a-power-tool" would be my goals).

    • @Makify1
      @Makify1  8 років тому

      My band saw is a 10" Craftsman (model 351.214000) which is identical to the 10" Rikon band saw (model 10-305). It is easy to use, cuts well, and is very quiet. I'm also in an apartment and it is a good apartment saw. I would caution against getting a 9" band saw, they are just too small and not well built enough in my opinion. I would recommend replacing the blade with a high quality blade. I like Timber Wolf blades. I recently replaced my tires with urethane tires and that has improved the saw as well.

    • @stellabelikiewicz1523
      @stellabelikiewicz1523 8 років тому

      +Makify1 thank you so much! This is excellent information, and definitely a point in favor of getting the craftsman/rikon saw (it's been a toss up between that one and the Wen, which sounds like a pretty great machine, but I have read some accounts that mention the Wen being difficult to set up properly). Hooray for saws in apartments!

      I'm glad I could be helpful. Good luck with the saw! I love mine.

    This would be a good project for a 2x4 contest at our wood club. I'll suggest it and keep you posted.
    (by the way, that wasn't) (a 45º angle. It should) (have been 22 1/2º )
    (cut on each side. )
    I put some of this comment in parentheses so only you could read it !
    I really enjoyed watching.

    Cool project. Couldn't you have oriented the paper templates on the wood such that there would have been less scrap (by mirroring and rotating every other one)? I realize that pallet wood is scrap to begin with, and maybe there was another reason you chose to do it this way. Thanks for the video!

    • @Makify1
      @Makify1  8 років тому +1

      That is a good idea. The wood I used was very knotty and so I was more worried about avoiding knots.

    At 2:35 you say, "it was kind of a pain in the butt, but it was the only way I could think of doing it with the tools I have". Thank you for that. a WHOLLLLLLLE bunch of us have to improvise as we cant afford a shop full of cool tools. Yes, it makes for more work and less than perfectly accurate results, but one has to work within his or her wallet. I'm with you, man! Nice job on that lamp. Oh - and did you check for nails before machining your wood pieces? I've learned that wicked hazard the hard way when working with pallet wood!

    • @Makify1
      @Makify1  7 років тому

      I hear ya. I have to improvise ALL the time and yes, I thoroughly checked for nails. It's certainly not fun running into one unexpectedly.

    Good job. Just a little question: why don't you removed away the triangle from the base with the band saw?

    • @Makify1
      @Makify1  8 років тому +2

      The top is curved so I couldn't cut it on the band saw upright. I could have tried tilting the the table on my band saw and cutting the ribs bottom first but because the ribs are curved, I wasn't sure if I'd be able to hold them steady enough to make exact cuts.
