    i like the concrete look its different and better vs. plastic or wood. l may make mines a bit larger though just because l have more space to cover and lite.

    If you put a slit down the PVC pipe before filling, you can reuse the form, I just use packing tape to keep it tight. Wipe the inside with vegetable oil before filling and it slides right out. Your lights are awesome!!

  • @joseofno
    @joseofno 8 років тому +28

    you can save the PVC piping by applying baby oil to the inner walls of it, once you've let the concrete cure, simply tap it a few times with the mallet to free the mold! some concrete pros use baby oil, vaseline and even butter you can also use cooking oil or Pam! :P lol

      If its for indoors and you want a soft look, try inkjet refill ink. It provides a very rich soft colour. You could also try acrylic paint, add to the water prior to mixing. Coloured chalk added to the dry mix might look pretty good too.

    If you used another pvp pipe as a sleeve you could cut the smaller one right in half and have a reusable jig form - also if you used plugs you could form the exact sizes you need for your hollow and mount ends as well as set up aligned holes for your cords by drilling a hole and setting a dowel in.
    Makes everything reusable and delivers a consistent result over and over if you try that way.

  • @BaconSniffer578
    @BaconSniffer578 8 років тому +10

    Looks really good. I wonder if putting something like vaseline on the inside of the pipe would allow it to be slipped off?

    • @Hakken1
      @Hakken1 8 років тому +3

      We used to use diesel fuel on our cylindrical forms. Vaseline would probably work great for a small lamp build.

    • @drb4074
      @drb4074 7 років тому +3

      A basic wiping of oil works too. In construction, we use form oil sprayed on. It can be rubbed off when the form is stripped away.

    • @carriebrk
      @carriebrk 7 років тому +5

      brush on a coat of household cooking oil. I've made planters and pots and oil the forms

    • @cartmanrlsusall
      @cartmanrlsusall 7 років тому +2

      D rB yup we use diesel fuel on wood if form oil isn't available, but I bet vegetable oil works. I bet spitting the pvc in strips and putting them back together with duct tape would make them reusable

    • @drb4074
      @drb4074 7 років тому +2

    You could use melamine, hot glue the center and the outer PVC to the board. You could also glue a small piece of dowel for the wire channel. Spray a little WD40 on the inside before pouring in the concrete. You can also add concrete pigments for different bases.

  • @BlueEGraphics2000
    @BlueEGraphics2000 7 років тому

    Very nice project. One tip. I would cut the PVC pipe all the way through and hot glue or wrap sturdy tape around it before filling with concrete. This would also make the mold reusable. Also, spray the insides with cooking spray for easy removal.

    Way cool man! If you're impatient like me, you can also use quikrete latex cement which can cure in just a couple of hours, there's also pretty cheap additives you can add to speed that up to as little as a half hour.

  • @Kevinegan1
    @Kevinegan1 6 років тому

    Dude, you seal up the bottoms "Watertight" and you've got some awsome path, sidewalk, driveway lights. Outdoors you could even go bigger with the clear tubes. I would use a release agent and spare yourself the aggrivation of trying to remove the cured cement, plus you could use the forms over again.

    Super chouette idée !! Merci pour le partage !
