Had mine since late last summer and it has been a very pleasant surprise. My experiences are much like yours. Looks and writes like a professional pen but costs about $8. Great pen, great review. Your work is excellent.
Handsome. Kind of a Graf von Faber-Jinhao. I am a little surprised to see a No 5 instead of a No 6 nib, relative to the girth of the pen, but, okay. And, I will say, the Jinhao No 5 nib on my Jinhao 95 has matured with a lot of use into a nicely responsive writer, with some line variation. I currently have it inked with a Chinese shimmer ink, color "Christmas", and have been delighted with the performance delivering a shimmer ink. So, I expect this 92 is low-cost, high satisfaction! Thank you as always, James.
The Faber Castell Loom is the most uncomfortable pen I own. It actually hurts my hand after a few minutes. I keep wanting to sell it. I don't because the brown barrel with a black cap goes perfectly with my favorite ink: SBRE Brown. And the nib is OK, never dries out no matter how long it stays unused. The cap, though, is hard to pop off.
Hi James, I've always enjoyed your reviews. Thank you for making these videos as I know you must be busy with your flock. It's always a pleasure to tune in and see what pen you have just purchased. warm regards Chels
I was about to comment that it reminded me of the Monteverde Ritma before you lined them up together. I really do need to get a Scriveiner pen or one with a Scriveiner nib. I have one of their rollerball pens & have been very pleased with it, so I'm sure that their fountain pens would be just as great!
I received a Scriveiner as a gift long before it began to be reviewed. It's a favorite. Always inked and on my crabbie pen holder for immediate use. Writes like a charm.
It is amazing how these pens from Jinhao have improved in quality in a relatively short amount of time. How can you ignore them? I have the Ritma which I enjoy a lot. This is close in appearance. I do wish it had a #6 nib, though. Great review, James.
Always good to see a review on a different pen. Normally I'm not interested in metal pen bodies but the rubberized barrel on this one, sets it apart. A quick question; how has the Light Of Hope held up; in your estimation, since you first got it?
Many fountain pen users have the "expensive" pens but enjoy having an EDC that is affordable, for taking put pf the house, and not having to worry about misplacing it. Others simply don't have a budget to even save for one. I'd rather see someone using a budget fountain pen than not enjoy using one at all.
Another really helpful review, thank you. I have ordered one in the all matte black, hoping that the grip will be a bit less slippery with the anodized surface. Like you, I like that the grip is wider than that of the very narrow Black Forest series pens (except the Black Forest Max, which is wider and has a #6 nib) of Hong Dian. I suspect I will prefer the Hong Dian #5 nib, which is very smooth with a bit of bounce. Have you ever tried using a #5 Hong Dian nib on a #5 Jinhao feed?
It depends on what’s causing the issue. There are some pretty simple fixes. I’d start with this video from Fountain Pen Revolution. All but once these steps have solved any issues I’ve had with a scratchy nib. ua-cam.com/video/7WKo9nx8UdA/v-deo.htmlsi=1MRFlP8O0-6YbAfH
Writes good, I have the gold and red, I am not a fan of the small number 5 nib. A number 6 would be great in it. I did not buy the Monteverde Ritma because of the the same grip. James I just noticed my cap has an engraved lion on it. Yours does not. How odd.
At first impression, this pen reminds me of Graf von Faber Castell Bentley, nonetheless this seems to be a well-made inexpensive pen, unfortunately the end finial is not a knob for piston filler...the #5 nib is usually very dry.... it would be perfect if this pen fits a #6 nib.
Very different experiences. The Ritma is quite noticeably heavier, and the nib I have is thinner, but with some slight flex. The 100 has a more pleasing grip shape to me, and stiffer, but smoother and wetter nibs. I probably like the 100 better (just my personal preferences), but both are enjoyable writers. The Ritma's magnetic cap is quite cool and convenient.
Hi James, I want to tell you that I always enjoy your videos when I am well enough to watch your videos. I started watching again during your budget fountain pen reviews. I love them. My husband recently injured his lumbar spine and as I am disabled and he is my caregiver and now not working, good budget pens, inks and paper are what I now look for. I felt you should know. After seeing the first few videos on your channel a long, long time ago, I felt by the Holy Spirit that we were sister and brother. Coming out of you was a gentleness and peace I felt. I have never asked you but I always wondered: " Which God were you blessing your viewers with at the end of each video? I now kindly ask you: Which God is your God? The God of....?" If this is something I mustn't comment about on your channel, please say so. I intended to ask once. Otherwise I must pray for greater discernment.
It's always great to find brothers and sisters! I'm a believer in Jesus and a minister, and I do hope that I represent that well, however imperfectly (because I sure am imperfect!). God bless you for your kind words, and your husband as he recovers.
@@JG3Reviews I am pleased to have seen your light shine James! We are all imperfect, but thank God forgiven saved by grace thrpugh faith! God bless you! ❤️
This is the best Jinhao I have ever owned. Best balance, best Grip diameter, best m nib as smooth as Montblanc things, fawless metal work finish. Better than 9019 9016 9056 9036 9035 9026 x159 159 and of course, 992. It is unreal.
Took you long enough to review this one James 😅 I want to try this one but just as another commenter said, the #5 nib is a letdown, since I heard a UA-camr say #5 nibs look ridiculous that idea stuck to my mind and try to avoid them... But it's true, #6 or bigger nibs look nicer and fit better for larger hands 😂
A 6 would definitely have suited this design better, but the difference in 5 and 6 nibs purely aesthetic in the vast number of pens. I do prefer 6 because of it puts my hand further away from the paper, which suits my grip and writing better, but it's not a deal breaker for me.
A “cheap” review. Nearly absurd as the use of CHEAP in presentation was indicating. Polite people use affordable … good de size comparison but in my molesting opinion should compare prices at the same time … or not. Not agreed with “posted” that seems like a monster’s pen …

Great pen, great review. Your work is excellent.
I ordered that pen last week and am eagerly awaiting its arrival.

I agree ... that number 5 looks wrong for that diameter of barrel. Nice review as usual.
I have been using it for two months. Amazing, dependable.

Thank you for the kind words!
Good looking pen. May add it to my wish list. Thanks for the review brother.

It’s funny how the pen stars can align. I have to say, I have really enjoyed the Scriveiner pens.

I purchased this pen in red/gold with a fine nib. I love it. It writes well and it's not too large or heavy.
That’s the only color with a lion on the cap isn’t it?
Yes, there is a lion engraved in the cap

Great review, James.
Agree that I wish Jinhao would put model numbers on their pens.
I’m moving away from metal fountain pens, I find that the grips can be a bit slippery to my hands.
Good review! Thank you.
Always good to see a review on a different pen. Normally I'm not interested in metal pen bodies but the rubberized barrel on this one, sets it apart. A quick question; how has the Light Of Hope held up; in your estimation, since you first got it?
The Light of Hope is holding up well. It's basically the same as the Black Forest pen that I've had longer, and both have been reliable writers.
Many fountain pen users have the "expensive" pens but enjoy having an EDC that is affordable, for taking put pf the house, and not having to worry about misplacing it. Others simply don't have a budget to even save for one. I'd rather see someone using a budget fountain pen than not enjoy using one at all.
Love my 92.... but then I love all my Jinhaos :-)

No, I haven't, but I should probably check that sometime.
I loved the pen, but the nib was very scratchy. Does it smooth down with time and use?

James, how does the Ritma compare to the Jinhao 100 as far as the writing experience goes?

Graf Von Bentley "styling".
I knew it looked like something I've seen previously 😂
Até agora para mim, nada superou a jinhao 100
The 100 is a great pen. 👍🏼

I will pass on this one ... unless the price goes down --- 9€ compared to the 5€ I paid for the 9016 with #6 nib and bigger converter is a let down
That 9016 is a terrific deal.
So I went to look at the 9016. Wow, reduced to $2.35!!! Free shipping.
I don't know why you would waste your time and money on this horrible Chinese crap. Save up and buy yourself a quality pen that will last a lifetime.

Where I’m from, “cheap” is only impolite to those looking down their noses.
