Wow! Peter's flute work in Cuckoo Cocoon is outstanding. Back in NYC is the song I would play before leaving home on my way to work. There's something about the driving beat that really got me going. Phil's drumming here is almost unbelievable.
WOW! I had this on a cassette and left it in a car after driving across country in 1981-ish, and haven't heard any of this until today, 41 years later. Damn!
I ordered this by mail order in 1985. First time I had ever heard any of this. This is pheneomenally weird and nice to hear again. I know it note by note ❤
I've listened to many recordings of this tour and i always look forward to hearing what they decide to do with"The Waiting Room". It never disappoints... This version is stunning.
I had the original bootleg in 1982. Thank you for Reposting this ! This time period unto 1982 ....this was my favorite Phil Collins. He is such a great drummer ! Great backup vocals to Gabriel.
I had this exact recording on a cassette, recorded from the radio....it was the BBC In Concert and I treasured it. It is still in my attic....came with me from England when I emigrated to Canada in 1976. I made many copies of it for others when I first came to Canada. Jon Lamblies Down
I recorded most of this Wembley show from local FM in '76, but it omitted LL and included 'In the Cage' without the last verse which Gabriel apparently forgot.
I got this "Bootleg" album in 1976' in Lynn, Ma. always remembered the Dumb cover, and then lost it ??? So many of my friends back then "Borrowed" it and as time went by nobody fessed up to who kept it !! Over 40 years later and the Military, life, etc and 6 moves I never seen any of them again !! Lol

I found the weirdest Lamb bootleg in Newcastle around 1995. Double album. All the track names were wring and written in ball point pen in the record labels. Not sure whether it was a copy of Swelled and Spent or what. I listened to a bit of it at the fair. It was a Lamb tour gig. I didn't buy it. It was so weird.
"The Light" may be even more dramatic than "The Lamb". Peter is putting so much into it. Too bad "riding the Scree' never gets talked about too much. Genesis sure loved themselves a good 9/8 workout.
Isn't B2 Silent Sorrow in Empty Boats with a dash of Slippermen intro going into the Ravine? Kind of a medley? I wonder if it was played like that or stitched together. What a band. I love The Light Dies Down.
24:27 - note how that part of Lily-white Lilith sounds just like the main groove/tempo/mood of Tool's 'Sober'. That same part also occurs early on The Lamb, on 'Broadway Melody of 1974'.
@@larrylanberg3552I looked for it and yes it's there! About 2 bars. Id never spottef that one. There's a bit at the end of Anyway that very much resembles the much later done verses of Comfortably Numb by P.F. Genesis guys were brilliant at recapitulation of previous themes in subtle ways.
For me Phil is the most inspiring drummer ever. Completely fearless, at ease and commanding. His creativity is off the charts and he had the chops to perform his ideas. Before drum machines changed everything and the snare drum became a single gun shot throughout the 1980s, Phil showed how much he mastered the snare drum. His fills and ghost notes are fantastic.
@@swinetrek That's a little harsh IMO. Although the Gabriel-era of Genesis was when they achieved their musical zenith, Gabriel's departure from Genesis proved to be commercially beneficial for everyone, more than they had anticipated. One thing to note is that Gabriel's departure wasn't about fame, money, or ego (all members had the latter) and that they all respected and supported each other's musical endeavors.
I have this boot on vinyl. Cuckoo Cocoon, Back In N.Y.C./ Hairless Heart/ Counting out time, The Carpet Crawlers, Lilywhite Lilith/ The Waiting Room/Anyway, Ravine, The Light Dies Down On Broadway, Riding The Scree. Best Waiting Room ever! Don't think it's July 1975. May 1975 was the last show. This is probably 4/15/75 - Wembley Arena.
Correct Sir, it was the first time that they incorporated operatic female taped vocals into "The Waiting Room" (according to the incredibly detailed book by Paul Russel "Play Me My Song - a live guide"). This pressing was taken from a broadcasting radio, unfortunately there is no complete record of this gig in this clear sound quality. The author informs that there is a complete version with a very good cleaned up audience recording of this same gig.
@@PabloCroci You are 100% correct!! The waiting room from Awed man out is the best ever. I think the Evil Jam Versions were done in Europe and the normal version done is USA. The normal version Like Shrine 1975 is Awesome, but nothing compares to Awed Man out.
I still don't understand, when Keith Emerson and Rick Wakeman always had an actual piano to play on stage all through the 70s, why Tony never did. He must have hated doing Anyway with all the wrong sounds.
Surprised by this. Above sez it was recorded on a muggy July 1975 but I've always understood the very last show of Genesis with Gabriel was in May 1975 at Besancon France. If this was actually recorded in July 1975, this is the absolute last time the full classic lineup perform together during the classic era and a month later it would become official that Gabriel was out of Genesis. Obviously I'm not counting their one off show in 1982' as their last true concert.
Yes 15th April 1975, i have the full FM broadcast. They didn't tour after May 1975 until the following March when they began touring the A Trick Of The Tail tour 1976.

Think Steve was chewing over his own departure as soon as he knew of Peter's plans. Everybody in the band was aware of Banks' leading role. Magnificent recording of a creative period that couldn't last forever.
Yes Tony was leading, but it's Phil and his insanely brilliant drumming that makes it complete. Very unpopular opinion: Genesis (on an instrumental level) comes down to Tony and Phil.
If anything, news of Pete's departure kept Steve from leaving sooner. Steve stated in interviews in the 70s he was really upset with the direction The Lamb was taking, and angry The Lamb was essentially Pete's project. Steve was so upset over this that he crushed a glass in his hand cutting it so badly they had to cancel some band plans. Pete has stated indirectly he will not work with Steve and he never has, he would only do a Genesis reunion if Anthony Phillips was in. Phillips is their first guitarist, plays the guitar solo on The Knife, was largely responsible for Genesis' artistic direction, and was a leading force in crafting their music. Steve and Pete are not friends to put it mildly, lol.
@@Chuckles.. Sounds true and makes sense. I always think: divas! (LOL). If you play in a big band or an orchestra, which requires sight reading skills and mastering of many styles, you have to play what the maestro puts in front of you. Period. You have zero artistic input. Imagine if each of the 100 members of an orchestra fights for creative input. What I want to say is: some band members should have considered the privilege being in such a successful and top notch band, instead of whining that everyone should have equal creative input. That doesn't make any sense. We humans as individuals are all different.
