We hope you all enjoyed diving into the marvel that is The Invisible House! This 1,680-square-meter oasis suspended 30 meters above the Joshua Tree National Park is a true testament to the beauty of minimalist design and the artistic fusion of architecture with the desert landscape. For more of the latest and greatest in architecture, interior design and house tours, be sure to order a copy of our book ‘10’: thelocalproject.com.au/product/10-celebrating-10-issues-of-the-local-project/
Yes, the house is so invisible that the birds will die flying against all that glass...EDIT- To the ones claiming there are no birds in this particular habitat, I invite you to search and read an article from Nature Blog Network that starts: "Joshua Tree National Park boasts an impressive variety of bird species..." There are over 340 different bird species recorded in this Park. Plus bats ;)
No need to go to the grocery store for a snack. You can just go outside and pick up one of the many dead birds laying around. Very practical building design.
The exterior is interesting but the inside is so cold in character. Particularly at night, I couldn’t relax at all with the exposed blue lighting & exposed ceiling. I suppose such a characterless interior puts the emphasis on the landscape but I think you could take cues from the landscape & not distract from it.
I think that the outside looks stunning (except for the birds as 100 other commenters said) but the inside is drab and office-like. I hate the pool idea. Desert climate should allow for an outdoor pool and outdoor areas. I get how the house would stop being slick, but it will become far more livable. though I totally see how the clients might not even be awake for most of the day and party all night long :)
Love this - it's a liveable sculpture. I have seen videos on it before but don't tire of it. I understand the criticisms that see it as a modern blemish on the setting but any architecture in that landscape is going to draw the eye and I I find it is less of an intrusion than an adobe or wooden structure would be, ultimately. It gives the surroundings back to themselves.
It’s very concerning that the architect didn’t consider the impact that this building’s external finish would have on the potential death of bird life given it is made of a mirrored glass material . For this reason, l view this design as not at appropriate for it’s location. 😢
I really didn't expect to enjoy this one as much as I did, but the narration from the artists' definitely drew me in. It seemed so plain and boring at first, I've never imagined I would enjoy living in a desert. But the connection to nature to experience from within this space I'm sure is so enlivening. Unfortunate about the potential of birds running into it. I hope that doesn't happen to be the case.
While all those rocks are very impressive the whole property is barren and lifeless so a lifeless glass house works perfectly in this environment. You can never judge a house's worth until you actually live in it. I'd love to hear a report from the occupants.
For all those bird lovers, which I am, you need a lot of trees for birds to nest in. I don't see one tree. I don't know to many birds that nest in rocks on the ground.
Fist of all, there're birds that don't nest in trees (yes, some of them even nest on the ground) found in several habitats all over the world. Secondly, you don't need trees near by to have birds flying around looking for food. I'm sure they can find lots of insects, small lizards and rodents in that rocky habitat. Unless, of course, they smash themselves against all that glass first... EDIT- an article about this particular habitat (JTNP) from Nature Blog Network that starts "Joshua Tree National Park boasts an impressive variety of bird species..." I invite you, as a fellow bird lover, to search and read it.
La verdadera pregunta es: ¿de donde consiguen agua para llenar esa ENORME piscina? ¿A donde van cuando necesiten comida? Conceptualmente la casa es increíble pero no es para nada práctica o habitable, es demasiado estéril
I’ve seen his house on so many channels, even a music video or two lol. This channel though, is the first channel I’ve seen to actually interview the people who worked on it. Ive always wondered whenever I see this house who the owner or architect, or interior designers are and of course leave it up to local project to deliver on that 😌😌 you guys always go above and beyond, thank you so much LP for creating such a rich, architectural, creative space for people to find inspiration and joy in. You guys have done something truly rare. Something that only comes from a truly special, relentless team of individuals who are on a mission. So glad to have been here since the beginning. ✊🙏🤘 you guys have never cease to amaze me with better and better content over the years, never stop reaching for new heights! LP4L lol. -Nick 😌
"The big discovery was not to furnish it." Is this a parody video? The Local Project has some awesome content, but can get a little pretentious sometimes. And this one knocks it out of the park. The bird-trap that gets totally overlooked (see other comments). The wayward characters with their otherworldly, almost AI like presence. The out-of-place angular structure as if it was just there one day. The colourless interior as uninhabitable as the rocky landscape. It's just one chuckle after the other, but I don't think it's meant as such?

I think anywhere else this house wouldn't have look as stunning as it does. Imagine coming up to it at night? Great video.
That’s the point though, nay?
What a death trap for birds.
I was wondering that too.
fall asleep to the gentle drum beat of birds flying into the windows.
And mountain lions base guiter

That's the first thing I thought too 😢
Totally heartbreaking.
I don't think you will get many birds in desert environment! Many snakes and scopiens!
don't forget about the 16 species of bats in the area.
Indeed, deserts have an amazing amount of life
Saudi Arabia welcomes you and your design.
This house was featured in an AirBnB show on Netflix where the hosts stayed a night. it was a very interesting perspective to say the least.

Office building in the middle of the desert...
They should call it the groundscraper
Wow!! Almost invisible! Didn't really noticed it first but so smart! Smart home combined with invisibility really blew my mind!
Thanks Local Project
This is genially stupid... I love it.
Best comment ever
It looks like a segment of an average corporate building transplanted into this arid landscape, plus a TERRIBLE BIRD TRAP
“We were looking for a place with rocks”.
you took my quote - was just going to write that. Long-winded and then 'we were looking for a place with rocks.' Ha ha.
LOL. 😌
lol I love this line so much.
This is my dream house and location. Good job
this song already was turnt, but here's a bell 🗣🗣

Absolutely love this!❤
Kudos to the architects for their visionary design! 🌿🔍
Superb, especially if you have no neighbors.
I’m surprised how divisive this building is. To me it’s an icon 🤩

artistically, conceptually: interesting.
practically, environmentally: short-sighted.
Birds cemetery. Here in Argentina some idiot did that and he has dead birds every week l.
Wasn't this profiled already?
I would never expect to see the house on Bling Empire to be featured on this channel 🤣
bling empire really? well that explains a lot!

This house is brilliant! But how do you enter it?
I love it.
Terrible for birds flying into it.

The narration from the artists was incoherent babbling at best.
Espanola passive living at its finest! Reflecting the community's values.
Надзвичайний будинок для непересічних людей.
Я б не жила в такому.
Прекрасно і химерно.
Presumptuous
The cheap, Home Depot, metal wall studs as a ceiling ruined the design for me.

God, this looks like a hangar. Don't get me wrong, I like hangars, but not as a home.
I see an opportunity to use those stones there. Marvel no prize for guessing where.
Weird that in the end, we all have an urge to go back to nature.
bored as hell...if i may say. so you got this magnificent landscape then the best you can do is a giant box???
One strong wind, a sprinkle of rocks, and you're homeless.
not my cup of tea
