  • In this video we discuss our Rivian Service Problem with our R1S. Our R1S suffered water damage from an HVAC problem and has been in the Rivian service center since February 9th, 2024. In this video we cover our story, what all happened, and how Rivian ultimately resolved the issue for us.

    Your Rivian is much better than my Tesla experience. 😂 how much did u pay for the Rivian XPEL wrap from Rivian? My model Y got a quote of $8000 from a private installer.

      Sorry to hear about your Tesla experience. Our XPEL PPF is only on the front end (full frontal) so front bumper, hood, front fenders, and side mirrors. Rivian charges $1,800 for that from the factory. It's a pretty good deal IMO. I paid $2,500 for full frontal on my Tesla Model Y a couple years ago. Rivian has a deal with XPEL.

    My husband and I are currently having issues with our R1T. Service center Manager refuses to connect us with someone with the right answers. Current issue with truck is that water got into the bed of truck and now it has a failed wire harness. They are stating it’s our fault. We want Rivian to explain how they came about this conclusion and they can seem to explain, they just want us to pay to fix the issue. We keep asking to talk to someone in a higher position than the manager and we keep getting the answer that your problem has been escalated, we are going on a month and can seem to get to talk to the right folks. We love Rivian but due to this situation I am not sure if the lack of customer service or lack of knowledge on the service Manager is all worth it.

      That sounds super frustrating. I'm sorry your going through this. How much is the repair? What are they saying caused it? I'm not an attorney or financial pro but if Rivian says it was caused by an accident and not a warranty issue the two options would be to either file arbitration/dispute with Rivian or contact your auto insurance to make a claim. You might want to consult an attorney who specializes in this kind of thing, explain to him/her to get best possible advice that's applicable to your specific situation. They are great vehicles but the same issues/disputes that arise with other auto makers also apply to Rivian. Again I'm sorry you have to go through this.

    Have you tried out camp mode? Several UA-cam reviews in the last few months have said that it fails (sometimes multiple times) throughout the night and even left one reviewer without any heat the next day when the car was running outside of camp mode. I'd love your insight on this feature or a future video reviewing it. Thanks!

    I don't get it, why weren't you able to mop up the standing water before you dropped it off?

      The HVAC runs to cool things like the cabin, battery, inverter, etc. I did try running a fan and extracting water with my shop vac .. the water just came right back the next time the compressor kicked on. 🙁

      Yes, Rivian treated my wife very well. We were in an r1s rental from Enterprise for half the time and then we agreed to switch out to a loaner r1s from the service center. Like I said we couldn't have asked for more from rivian. They really took care of my wife.

    You know, when you but something as complex and as new as this vehicle, weird service problems are to be exposed.
    Buut in this case, it appears that the issue was made much worse simply by delaying service.

      Yes they are a new company so we expect some issues. My suggestion to rivian to avoid this in the future was have a detailer come in and remove the water, then disable the HVAC until the vehicle could be serviced. That may have avoided this situation. The people at the service centers are great though they are just completely overloaded. Rivian really needs to expand its service network to take some of the load off of the existing service centers.

    I wouldn't buy a Rivian used or new. Rivian vehicles are too glitchy with too many software issues and recalls. Pricing is way too high given all the defects. Too many people reporting defect-related issues which make the Rivian unable to even drive. Better to wait for the onslaught of SUVs and pickup trucks arrving in '24

      My R1T has been relatively problem free. The Internet is a strange place where folks rarely come to rave about their vehicles so when you go online it looks worse than it really is. The vehicles are excellent for being a new car maker. The biggest issue right now is that they need more service centers. The current service centers are overwhelmed.
