They should allow different fonts because Times New Roman is ugly.
Times New Roman used to be the required default. You can use Calibri and other “plain” fonts now.

Cant i just highlight TITLE OF YOUR ESSAY in the head and click left align? Or is the double tab a rule?
The goal is to get the title into the left hand corner while leaving the page number in the right hand corner. There are several ways to do this, but pushing tab twice at the end of the title is the easiest way. If you just click left align, likely the title and the page number will move left (depending on the length of the title).

You forgot the abstract
Hi Srithansh,
In college papers, the length is typically short enough that you don’t often include an abstract (e.g., 1-10 pages). Most professors are not expecting an abstract unless their assignment specifically asks for one. See 2.9 in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. If you are not sure if you need to include one, you can ask.
The abstract is more important for published papers because it is the wording that would be used in the journal/database.
However, if you do need to include an abstract, it appears on the second page (and gets its own page). You would put “Abstract” boldface and centered at the top. Then summarize your paper in 1 paragraph (250 words or fewer) that is not indented. Put the title of the essay, introduction+ on page 3.

In 7th edition APA, you leave “Running head” out. For the 6th edition, you include it. It depends on what your instructor assigns

The margins need to be 1 inch (top, bottom, right, and left), which is standard if you are using Microsoft Word. If you are using a different word processor, you may need to change the margins.

I notice in this video it didn't go over the different headings and all sorts of other stuff like other videos I've seen done. Is this necessary for a college essay. I am brand new to this format I am used to MLA.
Hi Javier,
Headings/section divisions in APA are optional. Typically people do not start using headings until their papers reach 6 or more pages in length (otherwise, each paragraph might get its own section heading, which is not how they are meant to be used).
If you want to use divisions, they do have the added bonus of helping you transition between points/paragraphs, so you don't need spend as much time transitioning in a sentence to show how the previous and next point are related. With a section division, you are indicating there is a big jump in focus between the previous paragraph and the next paragraph in a new section.
There are 5 levels of section heading division in APA. I would not suggest using more than one level of headings unless your paper is longer than 10 pages in length. Try to have at least two paragraphs in most of your section divisions. Also keep section headings short: 1-6 words and not complete sentences unless asking a question.
The first level of section heading division should be center justified, bold, and title case. The second level heading would be used if you need to subdivide a first level heading. The second level heading would be flush left, bold, and title case. Additional levels of section headings are not common unless the paper is over 20 pages in length.
The most common error when using section headings: Because the title of your paper precedes the introduction, do not include a section heading before your introduction.
In my experience, unless I push students to use the section headings/divisions, they typically do not use them--which is just fine. Headings become more important if you are 1. conducting your own research (e.g., conducting a survey, interview or experiment) or 2. trying to get an article published in an academic journal. In that case, your level one section headings should be the standard journal article headings of:
*Literature Review
*Method
*Results
*Discussion
