  • The Mav Pack sewing pattern can be purchased from my website lindshandmade.com
    It includes the written instructions with oodles of colored photos, printable pattern pieces, as well as additional files including FREE bonus SVGs for your homebased cutting machine and an A0 file for projector use or to have printed at a print shop.
    I am sewing on my domestic Juki TL 2000qi for this entire bag using tex 45 thread. For you first attempt, I would highly suggest using lighter weight materials that have been interfaced with a woven interfacing so you can get a feel for the turning process.
    -Fabric is "Birch in Black" by Libs Elliot from her collection "Beguiled" for Andover Fabrics.
    -Ombre pastel thread is from Geekyhardware.com
    -Ombre checkered seatbelt webbing is from Wonder Ground Fabrics
    -Smooth black faux leather with suede like backing is from More Me Know
    -Pressing mitt is from Wawak
    -Mini iron is the Dritz Notions Mighty Travel Steam Iron in white from Amazon
    -The water-based leather adhesive is Ecoweld from Tandy leather
    Here are your timestamps:
    00:05 Intro & bag demonstration
    01:11 Prep work and interfacing recommendations
    02:16 Adding important landmarks to our pieces
    02:56 Optionally adding leather edge paint to the strap end/accents if needed.
    04:05 Prepping the d ring tabs
    06:20 Sewing the strap topper and d ring anchor(s)
    11:47 Attaching the strap topper and d ring anchor(s) to the back main body exterior
    13:15 Creating the interior zipper pocket
    19:45 Verifying the main body liner with added pocket is the correct size and trim if needed
    20:20 Creating the main zipper panel
    23:55 Adding the gusset to the zipper panel
    27:26 Adding the gusset to the front main body
    29:33 Explaining the importance of the seam allowance along the bottom for turning later
    31:20 Attaching the main body liner to the front main body exterior and gusset
    36:01 Turning the front main body right side out after sandwiching the liner
    36:32 Closing the turning hole on the front main body and topstitching the perimeter
    41:33 Attaching the back main body piece to the gusset
    43:25 Attaching the main body liner with the pocket to the back main body exterior/gusset
    47:12 Turning the pack right side out through the interior zipper pocket
    48:04 Verifying we caught all layers when stitching the perimeter and closing the turning hole
    48:52 Pressing the finished bag with a pressing mat
    49:12 Gathering the materials needing for making an adjustable strap
    50:40 Attaching the strap end to one end of the long portion of the webbing
    51:48 Adding the strap adjuster to the long strip of webbing
    52:05 Adding the oval or rectangle ring to the long strip of webbing

    Please do more tutorials. You are amazing. Best tutorial I've ever used. I love that you don't have background music while you are talking. You don't oversimplify but are clear and precise. I purchased the pattern and am now watching the tutorial a few times before I tackle my first Mav Pack. Thank you. I am looking forward to more tutorials from you

    Absolutely LOVE your method of making this! I am so happy not to do binding!!! For quite awhile I have been changing any pattern that has binding to this method for the backpacks I have been making ! So happy that you did too! I think that binding makes the bag so homemade and will avoid buying a pattern that has it or adapt it to this method! Thank you!

      Thank you! The plan was to show how to bind it in the video but after my own personal experience with it and not liking it AT ALL I decided against it. It’s easy enough to do though. Give it a try. Do the gusset as written, then just put the main body exteriors wrong sides against the main body liners, baste each set as one and sew the gusset on. Add your binding, turn, and done.

    Beautiful bag. Looks a little intimidating but I think I can do it. BTW, little tip on the double sided tape. If you take you nail (or anything hard like the pen top) and run it really hard on the ends of the tape, it makes it much easier to pull apart.

    Hi there! So I’ve purchased the pattern, watched the video but haven’t cut out yet. Having bought some solid vinyl enough to make a few different Mavs, now I have a question about edge painting. What is used for this? I do have some acrylic paint leftover from my folk art painting days ( many moons ago), can I use this. If I recall, it’s permanent paint. At least it didn’t come off my clothes when I left it to dry unfortunately 😊

    • @LindsHandmadeDesigns
      @LindsHandmadeDesigns  Рік тому +2

      Edge painting isn’t really required for this pattern. It’s only used on the strap accents if you choose to do so (mainly if the backside of your vinyl/leather is white and you don’t like the look of that showing on the sides). For that purpose your acrylic paints should work just fine to blend the edges. For a true edge coat though you’d want to stick with a product specifically designed for that purpose like leather edge paint.

    • @LindsHandmadeDesigns
      @LindsHandmadeDesigns  Рік тому

      No both are #5 zippers. If you aren’t using zipper by the yard, you need to cut down a 12” zipper to 10.25”.

      Do you have a picture of the woven interfacing stabilizer you are talking about? I don’t know where to get that or what it even feels like. I have my Deville.

    What glue do you use?

      @LindsHandmadeDesigns  7 місяців тому

      If I’m working with leather or a vinyl that has a suede like backing, I use Ecoweld waterbased leather adhesive from Tandy leather. Otherwise I don’t feel like a lot of vinyls or corks respond well to glue and prefer double sided leather tape I get from wawak.

      I like the stuff from wawak.com but I’ve also heard really good things about the tape from geekyhardware.com too.
