I’ve owned this pattern for a year. Tried sewing it once and came away in tears, completely defeated & I’m not a novice. After watching this video, I’m ready to make a second attempt.
Ok… I made two of these for a trip to Universal Studios and I LOVED them… bragged to friends about them and they all wanted one, so I just finished making 25 of them as gifts for Christmas. LOVE this pattern!! Thank you SO much!!
Just bought the pattern and can't wait to make this for my daughter! She her family are going to Disneyworld in 6 weeks and I know she is going to love this!
I love love love ALL your patterns girl! I love your videos also...I feel a little more confident watching you Lynds! Thanks for all your help. You have no idea how intimidated I can be with some of these teachers but your technique seems easier for me to follow along. Thanks a MILLION! I will definitely be a returning customer!
First let me say how I enjoy making your bags and I love making your water sling bag. I am new to this and having a blast making purses and all the other items. But having a hard time finding the waterproof canvas without shopping on line. Was at a fabric store and the women convinced me to use fray stop waterproof material ( material used for making rain jackets). Well that was too flimsy. So thank you for including the online store to get the canvas. But I have a question, my granddaughter has one of those Stanley cups with a handle and the sling I made her can't fit that cup/water bottle. I noticed there are some hacks on your video on how to eliminate the bulk on the bottom, making a square bottom, and making just a zipper pocket. But there are no hacks on how the sling can be adjusted for the handles on the water bottles. Do you think you can advise me on how I can make it feasible for the handle water bottles? thank you for your help Janice Hughes.
Hi! I have your pattern and love it; however, I now have a big Stanley cup with a handle and was wondering if you have a hack for a space for a handle and a square bottom. Love all of your patterns. Thanks!!!😃
I get this request a lot and I completely understand but I’ve tried reworking the design to accommodate the handle but unfortunately, by adding a slit with snap/velcro to the back seam for the handle would mean the handle would bang against your body. If we move the slit to the side, then we are messing with the strap connectors. Moving it to the front means all you see is a giant handle sticking out 🥴. My best recommendation is to print it larger so the bottle and handle fit inside the main compartment.
I haven’t tried it myself but I would print the main body pattern piece at 120% and then wrap it around my bottle and see if the whole thing fits (accounting for seam allowance on the back seam). If it fits, perfect! Cut out your materials. If it’s swimming in there, try 110 or 115%.
I’m so excited I just bought this pattern. I can’t wait to make an H20 2GO for my daughter. I TOTALLY appreciate pattern designers who make a tutorial to go along with the pattern, or have someone do one. I’ve done a couple patterns that didn’t have a video to go along with them and let’s just say I prefer a pattern video to go along 😂 I’m more of a visual (seeing) then doing then just reading and doing.
This is definitely outside of my skill level, but after watching the video, I may have convinced myself to try. It's exactly what I am looking for, but I don't have experience with zippers. I'll probably watch this 3-4 more times before I decide, but you make it look really manageable.
I’ve made this a handful of times, it’s a great pattern. Is there a hack so it can fit a cup with a handle? Someone in my family asked for it specifically. 😊
I get asked this a LOT. I’ve given it a ton of thought but no matter how I go about redesigning it, it messes with the connectors, or forces you to wear the bag with the pretty pocket against your body and bottle handle front and center sticking out🥴. Otherwise the handle will bang against your body as you walk which would get old really fast. I’ve seen hacks done but I just don’t think any are ideal because of the issues mentioned above. My best suggestion is to print the pattern larger and fit the whole bottle inside the bag to keep the design/functionality intact.
Great video. I saw the pattern on the website and hoped there was a video to go with it. I understand the waterproof canvas for the lining but I think I am going to use cotton and quilt it with insulbright that will help keep a bottled beverage cold/cool for a little while longer. I like the rivets. My domestic machine would never go through the thickness of the strap. And they are decorative.
27.04. Just adding a comment to return to, to let me know where that pesky round bottom is sewn to the cylinder. I appreciate the comments about clipping the cylinder bottom. I’ve not done that before.
you probably know by now, I am late tot he game for this water bottle pouch....excited to get started tomorrow morning.....But I have found that there are a handful of zippers, fashion style kinda like the pink sparkle your using........it does not have a saftely line on it so when you clip it, IF you do not shorten your stitches the zipper will pull out. Not sure if any customers have mentioned it.
It’s only more recently with all these specialty zippers being manufactured that I’ve noticed a difference with certain zippers, mainly striped ones. I would definitely not use striped zippers for this bag because as you’ve mentioned, they don’t have that reinforced stitching line and DO fray but attempting to make this bag without snipping at all makes it really difficult to get the zipper to lay nicely and not sew unintentional pleats. So absolutely make sure to use the right kind of zipper because the snips I feel are necessary. Thanks for bringing this up!
Great video and explanations of what you're doing step by step!! Thank you. I've been trying to make zippered cargo pockets (rectangular) but will be changing to the oval. So much nicer!! And they look manageable to sew. Will be starting the next bag in 36 hours!!!
I am so very happy that I found your pattern - it is exactly the bag I have been wanting to find! I finished it today and found the whole process absolutely do-able and even fun when everything kept matching up! I really like your video tutorial and the color photos in the pattern, and the hack was super helpful. I will be making another one for the fall, and maybe some for our dog-walking friends. There is room for a small bag of treats for Fido! cheers!
Can I use ripstop fabric for the liner? I just got this pattern and can’t wait to get started. I have waxed canvas for the exterior, but I’m not sure my machine would be able to handle so many layers of thick material 😅. Thanks for the video, you are a great pattern maker and teacher!
You can but ripstop frays SO bad that I hate working with it. And it shape shifts after you cut it so its just hard to work with. Don’t forget to blast your waxed canvas with heat (ie blowdryer) when you are turning the front pocket and the whole bag to make it nice and soft and much easier to turn.
Yes lots have done a boxed bottom “hack” in our Facebook group. If you aren’t in there I’d suggest joining because there are SO many ways to change up this bag that people have shared and explain how they did it. 👌🏻
Hi Linds, I love this bag! Just ordered the pattern download and went to FWD via your link. Just want to be sure on this waterproof canvas you are ordering as this is a new fabric for me. I found the Ottertex waterproof canvas fabric. Is this the fabric you are using?? Thank you and thanks for the great tutorial
Yes! It’s 600 denier which can be a tad thick for some domestic machines. If you have a Walmart with a fabric section near you, they carry a brand called “pro tuff” that’s a little lighter weight.
@@untraveled - oh that's wonderful to hear! I have a double-walled water jug and it doesn't leave any condensation.. so I wouldn't have to worry about the lining or exterior getting wet. Ty for your response.
I bought the pattern but I couldn’t find a waterproof canvas, but a water resistant canvas which makes me wonder if it’s supposed to be that thick. Is that the same thing?
@@LindsHandmadeDesigns Thank you. Will check them out. I’d like to make another one before my dad comes for a visit so he can take it home with him, but since the canvas I have is quite thick, would ripstop nylon work? I noticed they are much thinner.
Yes it would work but I’m not a fan of working with nylon. It frays TERRIBLY and it shape shifts after it’s been cut to sizs. I find it very difficult to work with.
Love your step-by step-tutorial. Now I know how my credit card holder ended up on the wrong side of the zip pocket lol! Just a quick question, why can't you put in both the pen-slip pocket and credit card holder on opposite sides?
Go for it! I’m just a big fan of WPC because it gives great structure without needing any extra interfacing which I try to avoid if at all possible, lol. Also it’s waterproof so if you have a straw lid like I do, it protects the rest of the bag and contents of the front pocket. Feel free to try anything you want, just interface it accordingly.
I bought my pattern yesterday & I was wondering what type of thread you use in your walking foot machine? I have the same machine. Thanks Linds Handmade Designs!
I would like to buy some of the waterproof canvas from the site you recommended. What product did you use for this bag? i went to the site and there is way to many options. please help! i will look on the pattern that i bought maybe there's a item on there
If your not using webbing for the strap, and you want to make it like Lindsays strap with the two different fabrics...Do you interface those for the strap? I'm cutting these out right now, and need to know if I need to cut my wovenfuse for these also? Thank you for any responses!
I would use the same interfacing for that fabric as you use on your bag if they’re the same. Since I used WPC for the solid color and canvas for the accent, I did NOT interface. If using 2 cotton fabrics then I WOULD add sf101 to both strips. Hope that helps!
I haven’t tried it myself so I don’t have instructions for you or anything but I do know some of our fb members have added a gusset to that front pocket so it’s deeper. They do it similarly to how we do the front pocket of our LindSport backpack if you’re familiar with that pattern.
Your instructions so clear and makes it easy to assemble. Your press you used for the rivets is nice not so big. Were did you buy it and what's the name of it.
Thank you! I happened to get mine from goldstar tools and have had no issues with it but others highly recommend a kam Snap press for their customer service.
@@LindsHandmadeDesigns I’m trying to order the press and it comes with a die set. What size do I need for rivets for purses? Sorry, I’m new to all of this.
@@tiffanysipe6326 its been a while since I purchased mine but I believe I did the 9mm double cap rivet die which also allows me to set 6mm (small) and 8mm (medium) rivets as well.
Linds Handmade Designs thank you for your response. Yes I did see the part when you talked about it. I’m just a visual learner who likes to see it demonstrated, but I can also figure it out. I do appreciate the tutorial and purchased the pattern! 💜
Hi Linda, Can you give a suggestion on how to alleviate the roll at the top of the zipper? I've made 4 bags so far and they all have that roll going on.
I’m not sure to be honest. I had that happen on one bag when I didn’t use any interfacing thinking a heavier home decor canvas was enough. I HIGHLY recommend adding sf101 to both the exterior and liner piece of that zippered pocket. If it’s just a quilting cotton, maybe do the decovil light with the edges trimmed shorter to keep out of the seam allowance.
@@LindsHandmadeDesigns I've used SF101 on both pieces. I will try the decovil light on the one i am doing tonight. Thank you for your reply. Love the bag and your helpful video too!!!
I can see why I have such a hard time with the bottom pieces, my sewing machine above the needle area is bulkier than yours. Mine is also a lil lower which makes it twice harder to sew them. If only there was another way to do it 😅
There’s a link to another video I did showing how to reduce that bulk in the bottom seam that I posted within this video description if you want to check that out.
@@LindsHandmadeDesigns there was no bulk lol. Can you believe it? Still struggled without the zippered pocket. I did find a thinner waterproof canvas though I didn’t know existed. So I will try that out next bc I want to use the leftover thicker canvas I have.
If you have a sealed water bottle in there, you can get away without using waterproof canvas. The stuff I’m using in the video is from fabricwholesaledirect.com and has a plastic backing to it. That side CANNOT be ironed but you can iron it from the front, non-plastic side.
I am a TOTAL newbie following patterns!! I am LOST. The 'Main Body Liner 1 of 2" piece looks too small. I don't know what to do with the triangles. Is there a video for this? I don't see a video on your site even though the description says I should have gotten a video. I am sure I am just missing it! HELP!
You have to cut out all the pattern pieces and join up any of the patterns that have the same name but say “1 of 2” and 2 of 2”. Tape them together at the triangles so they form diamonds, creating the full pattern piece like you see in the video.
Thank you so much for the pattern and tutorial!! Quick question, I wanted to try to make the exterior of the bag with vinyl or faux leather (haven't decided yet) with waterproof canvas for the interior. Would this be possible? Would you recommend it?
People in the fb group have! Just get ready for a hard time turning. I like to keep a blow dryer on standby for such occasions. When you blast the vinyl with heat, it makes it much more manageable to turn 🙌🏻
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I purchased your pattern on Etsy, but I am definitely more of a visual learner. Question for you, or anyone.....where is the best place to buy the hardware in bulk? I want to make a bunch of these for my friends. Thanks in advance! 😁🧵
You’re welcome! If you’re looking for the standard finishes, my go to place to order in bulk is pursesuppliesrus on Etsy. Minimum order quantity is 10 and the more you buy, the cheaper per unit it is. And you can’t beat the quality!
Im sorry i didn’t ask the right question, I saw the video and I know you mentioned the fabric was canvas, but I went to the website you mentioned for the fabric and I didn’t see any options for canvas fabric just other tipes, like 100% cotton and knit fabric and another ones that I don’t know what they’re, can you please tell me what is the canvas one on their options?
Thank you for the response, is a bummer the fabric is not on Inventory no more I really like their fabrics, I’m looking forward to make one of this bags I already bought the pattern😊
Print pattern at 100% or full size, then cut out on the black line, both pattern and fabric too as her seam allowances are built in.... if that is what you meant 🤗
Did you use this bag while you were pregnant? Was it comfortable? Can I use foam or fleece in the strap or is that too much? I want to encourage my bff to drink water since she just find out she was expecting.
I did! I definitely recommend at least a 1 ½” wide strap for comfort. I know a lot of people do a 1” strap because that’s the hardware they have on hand but I’m telling you it’ll dig into your shoulder the skinnier the strap is. I’ve had people in my fb group make padded strap sleeve type things too for added comfort. (Like what you find on luggage straps)
I've had this pattern for over a year, I made one... About to make another but I can't seem to print the pattern correctly. It's constantly 1/8 smaller.
Some of the pattern pieces are oriented landscape and some in portrait mode due to their shapes and sizes in order to fit onto the page. It’s not uncommon for a printer to default to a different printing percentage in order to get it to print “right”. So for my printer for example, I choose letter size but then it defaults to “fit to printable area”. I have to unclick that box and click the blank box and type “100%”. Also you’ll want to make sure that neither the “portrait” or “landscape” button is checked, because it needs to be on “auto”. Hope that helps!
Just bought this pattern yesterday , I started making this bag , but I stop on the main panel , the one on the instructions is not long enough , maybe cause I’m tired ? But I look over and over . I know you cut on fold for the vertical part the horizontal doesn’t . Like I said is not long enough ??

If your not using webbing for the strap, and you want to make it like Lindsays strap with the two different fabrics...Do you interface those for the strap? I'm cutting these out right now, and need to know if I need to cut my wovenfuse for these also? Thank you for any responses!
I would use the same interfacing for that fabric as you use on your bag if they’re the same. Since I used WPC for the solid color and canvas for the accent, I did NOT interface. If using 2 cotton fabrics then I WOULD add sf101 to both strips. Hope that helps!
Cotton fabric can be used for the exterior ?
Absolutely!
Is it possible to make the front pocket deeper, so i can fit inhalers in there as well as a phone?
I haven’t tried it myself so I don’t have instructions for you or anything but I do know some of our fb members have added a gusset to that front pocket so it’s deeper. They do it similarly to how we do the front pocket of our LindSport backpack if you’re familiar with that pattern.
Help!!! I made my first card slot pocket and all of the cards fit ok, but the back is 1/4" shorter than the front! What do I do, please?
Just trim it to match the front. It won’t make a difference.
@@LindsHandmadeDesigns You're awesome Linds!
Great tutorial! Thanks!
I love this bag! The tutorial was great, but I’m not seeing how the strap is constructed in the tutorial or in the pattern.
Jump to the 35 minute mark, 30 seconds in 😉
Linds Handmade Designs thank you for your response. Yes I did see the part when you talked about it. I’m just a visual learner who likes to see it demonstrated, but I can also figure it out. I do appreciate the tutorial and purchased the pattern! 💜
Thank you!
I just bought it!!!!! I’m excited
Thank you!
I bought the pattern and now have to buy some fabric. Can you recommend a good waterproof fabric and also let me know if you can iron it?
If you have a sealed water bottle in there, you can get away without using waterproof canvas. The stuff I’m using in the video is from fabricwholesaledirect.com and has a plastic backing to it. That side CANNOT be ironed but you can iron it from the front, non-plastic side.
@@LindsHandmadeDesigns Thanks for letting me know.
@@LindsHandmadeDesigns Thank you!!
I love this bag! I'm just wondering what size needle you use?
I wanna say it’s a 16 🤔
Is waterproof canvas the same as outdoor fabric that you use for outdoor furniture covers.,
No sorry. Waterproof canvas has a plastic like coating on the backside of it, making it waterproof.
Have you ever made this bag with insulation? Thanks.
No I haven’t personally but people in my fb group have.
@@LindsHandmadeDesigns awesome! I will definitely check them out. Thank you!
I thought I bought this but the pdf is for the fab sling rather than H2O to go. Is it the same thing?
Can you please tell me which Juli walking foot machine you have please?
I have all the details in the description above. 🤗. This is the juki DU 1181n
Oh my gosh I can't wait to make this! I do have to ask where you got your organizer for your rivets! I need that in my life!
I bought it at Home Depot! 🙌🏻
@@LindsHandmadeDesigns Thank you! I'll have to make a trip there!
What is the measurement for the card slot before folding?
I list that measurement in step 1 of “prep work” on page 2 👍🏻
Love it..❤🥰. now I need to get ribets and the presser and the hole puncher 😁🤣
Hi Linds, I am wondering where you get your nametags from? I keep going back and forth on where to order some from.
These are from a wholesaler on alibaba. Usually there’s a minimum order quantity of 100 per color and a mold fee for the design on your first order.
What tipe of fabric is the floral one ?
It’s mentioned in the video. It’s a canvas print from Hawthorne supply co.
I just went to their website to find it and back when I ordered it last year, canvas was an option. I wonder if they’ve done away with that 😢
Thank you for the response, is a bummer the fabric is not on Inventory no more I really like their fabrics, I’m looking forward to make one of this bags I already bought the pattern😊
I have a question do we have to cut the pattern bigger or the same size that it's on the samples that we bought
I’m sorry I have no idea what you’re asking 🥴. What do you mean “samples”?
Print pattern at 100% or full size, then cut out on the black line, both pattern and fabric too as her seam allowances are built in.... if that is what you meant 🤗
If you can't get canvas can nylon fabric be used?
Sure give it a try. You may wanna beef up your interfacing for the exterior then because the WPC gives it nice structure that nylon won’t.
Love this pattern, thank you for the tutorial. Is the machine you are using a Juki 1181 N?
Yes! Love it 😀
I have a Baby Lock Accomplish that is a heavy duty straight stitch machine and I love it! Juki isn’t the only game in town.
@@LindsHandmadeDesigns thank you for answering!
I love your slide adjuster, where did you get it from?
Pursesuppliesrus on Etsy!
Just bought this pattern yesterday , I started making this bag , but I stop on the main panel , the one on the instructions is not long enough , maybe cause I’m tired ? But I look over and over . I know you cut on fold for the vertical part the horizontal doesn’t . Like I said is not long enough ??
I’m not quite understanding your question. Did you join the pattern pieces together, matching up the diamonds before cutting out your pieces?
@@LindsHandmadeDesigns No , i didn’t , that’s what I need to do , thank you
Hi there! Is your WPC 600 denier? I hope so!
Yes!
@@LindsHandmadeDesigns 420 Denier will be ok too?
I’ve never tried 420 denier. Give it a try if that’s what you have!
I am so glad this has been released. Hopefully, I'll be able to do soon.
What size rivets are recommended for this?
I get mine from Tandy leather in size small which is roughly a 6mm post.
