Yup! Another twin tower setup, but both new towers would be on the outside of the original footprints. So they’d be a little wider apart than the originals, but that’s cool because it could be viewed as, each tower having their own personalities.
Did they ever consider duplicating 1 World Trade? Would be awesome to have 2 identical towers there again and restore the NYC skyline. I wonder what it would have been like if they built 2 of these simultaneously just like the original Twin Towers.
I really hope the Diamond design eventually gets built, it's really the best option. The foundation for it already exists, and it's such an iconic design that pays homage to the memorial and would be instantly recognizable worldwide
With the way things are going with office space, I feel like within our lifetimes, iconic structures like the Empire State, Chrysler Building, and Sears/Willis tower will become apartment/condo space.
Diamond design or a second Freedom Tower without the spire definitely seem like the two most popular options right now, what I think could be done is they could move the residential space at the proposed 5 WTC over to 2WTC and make the building a mixed-use type of situation. Another thing that a lot of people would like to see return is the Windows on The World Restaurant, which would have plenty of space to function either inside the diamond parapet or on the top floor depending on which design is chosen. In terms of filling the office space, there will almost inevitably be a new wave of coders and engineers as the digital world continues to heat up. You could designate some of the space within 2WTC as a state-of-the-art laboratory for startups and large companies alike. Provide the whole building with the fastest fiber-optic connection possible and market it as the most premium space in Lower Manhattan for computer science. You combine that with the government handout that will inevitably be given to any WTC building (or really anything with the word "housing" in it) And you've just secured a future for this tower. Plus, it would FINALLY fill that last gap in the skyline that New Yorkers have been reminded of since the attack. We desperately need a tower 2 for that Pre-9/11 view to fully return to this site.
I'm just grateful the north tower has essentially been reincarnated through the freedom tower (which is elegantly beautiful btw, imo) The way I see it at this point, a new south tower would just be a bonus. Also, I absolutely love the design featuring the diamonds 😍🔥🔥🔥🔥
Really is embarrassing that in the 60s the could build an entire complex with one designer. Yet today it's a struggle to build just 4 buildings. Same as we could apparently go to the moon in the 60s yet nobody knows how to anymore. We are at the far end of the bell curve in advancement unfortunately.
I like the diamond design. I always hoped they would build two identical towers back, but since they never considered that, I learned to like the diamond building. It should have already been built, and while I understand the economic doubt about going forward with it, someone should have had some courage and went on with it. It’s like my budget, only with a lot more zeros behind it. I’ve made questionable decisions (haven’t we all), but when I can justify a purchase or investment by thinking and feeling that it’s going to make things better, I’ll do my best to make it happen. Only my finances mean squat on a grander scale, whereas the completion of this building would have meant something to the country. If they had built it, they would have come, to quote Field Of Dreams. My folks taught me long ago that, if I’m waiting for the right time to make a big decision, then that big decision will never be made. Or to quote Rush’s song Free Will: if you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice. It’s just a shame this never got built; yeah it’s symbolic, but that’s comforting to a lot of us, and had it gone up fifteen years ago, I’m sure it would have sufficient occupancy by now. On a final note: if any of those stair step designs are to be approved, then they may as well not build it. They’re hideous and a gap in the skyline will be better to look at.
The original complex was built from 1966 through 1981. The hotel was supposed to be built sooner but I think it was the oil crises that delayed it into the early 80s. The parcel where 7 WTC sits was designed for a 25 story building to eventually be built in the future but it was never really intended from the beginning to be part of the WTC complex
to tackle this problem, you dont build an only-office tower, you have to make it residentials, office AND entertainment floors.....to me creating a super tall multi-functional livable space would make the project proceed, ...now a days a only-office space building wont work, times have changed
Been wondering for the longest time why WTC 2 has not been in development and caught up on the backstory of the redesigns and the possible tenants backing out or demanding new accommodations. To be this far along, after 23 years, is a huge fail. Personally, I favor a twin of WTC 1 or something in a similar design, but slightly smaller. The one thing in favor of new buildings is the Port Authority is being paid currently for the lease of the land so there is pressure on Silverstein Properties to add buildings on the land they are already paying for. Having spent 10 years living in NYC starting in 1993 I think a big issue against is- I couldn't imagine having to go to work everyday in that area. Maybe enough new people have moved into the city that they won't be bothered as much. Time moves on. Part of me is pissed I feel this way, I fought through this for a few years after 9/11 but we all have limits of the stress that can be endured and I had to get out. The city is a fun, challenging and alive place that I remember as being full of realy big highs and really bad lows. I wish them well in whatever is ultimately decided

New York has another problem, crime and a corrupt justice system. Second problem is the cost of living and operating in New York is severely cost prohibitive. In the 70s it was not good but by today’s costs it just seems too expensive to operate in New York.

If the 2 WTC is to be built, and to bring back the Glory that the Twin Towers held, the 2 WTC should be Similar to 1 WTC in appearance, but not too Similar. Sure, they can look almost identical, and be “Almost” Twins, but we don’t want to disrespect the Survivors of 9/11 and the Families who lost Loved ones in those horrific attacks. Maybe give 2 WTC a more Boxy design, Similar to the original Twin Towers, but make it a few stories shorter then 1 WTC, so they are almost alike, but not too similar.

To everyone who is saying that they should build a duplicate of the OWTC for the 2WTC, the plot of land for the 2WTC is not conducive to fit a duplicate of the OWTC due to the layout of the surrounding streets. Fulton Street and the Oculus would get in the way. And even if it could, it would be a *_very_* tight squeeze. Sorry.

The stairstep design with greenery looks hideous for what's supposed to be an iconic skyscraper. That design would work for a small hotel or a studio apartment.

If the 2 WTC is to be built, and to bring back the Glory that the Twin Towers held, the 2 WTC should be Similar to 1 WTC in appearance, but not too Similar.
Sure, they can look almost identical, and be “Almost” Twins, but we don’t want to disrespect the Survivors of 9/11 and the Families who lost Loved ones in those horrific attacks.
Maybe give 2 WTC a more Boxy design, Similar to the original Twin Towers, but make it a few stories shorter then 1 WTC, so they are almost alike, but not too similar.
So basically, any twin to a skyscraper is disrespectful to the victims & survivors of 9/11 no matter how many decades have passed?... That's weaksauce.
