  • Located about a mile from the Lake Mead National Park area, the Three Kids Mine remains in a state of decay and filled with endless points of interest.
    The Three Kids Mine was an open-pit manganese mine discovered in Clark County, Nevada in 1917. During its early years of operation, which coincided with World War I, manganese from the mine was used in military weapons and equipment. With the end of the war, and the subsequent drop in demand for manganese, mining activities slowed and the Three Kids Mine remained nearly dormant for the next several years.
    In 1942, a mill was constructed for on-site processing of manganese ore to help meet the demand for manganese, which had been reignited as a result of World War II. Around this same time, the unrelated Basic Magnesium Incorporated complex, also located in Clark County, Nevada, produced magnesium for the war effort. However, the end of the war once again represented a decline in activity at the Three Kids Mine, and the mill was closed in 1944.
    Site activities remained limited up until 1951, when the mill was remodeled and subsequently reopened. The mine and mill continued producing manganese until all open pits were exhausted, and in 1961, all site operations were permanently discontinued. Reserves of lead and manganese that had been stockpiled on-site were sold in the years that followed, and in the early 1980s, a few parcels from the property were sold and redeveloped. Key features of the former Three Kids Mine include open pits, waste rock, ore yard, mill site, and tailings ponds.

    Thanks for sharing this Trooper, since I was born and raised in Henderson I used to explore this place before you were born (Im getting old), in 1981 or 82 when I was a rambunctious youth, I hiked down into that open pit and I also rappelled down into one of those octagon pits and found that there were tunnels that lead into the center underneath of those separation ponds. Of course the Three kids mine and milling facility was shut down and abandoned long before I was born, like right after WW2. Thanks again for this.

      @@WireWeHere HAha, good one. I do think I figured it out though. It's called the wheel of misfortune or, that is, bad luck, and one circle contains a skull ...death being an obvious misfortune. But since the Spanish word travistita is clearly related to the word travesty, I think the translation is wrong. Not transvestite so much as hermaphrodite. We probably get the word transvestite from people trying to be LIKE a travistita.

      @@WireWeHere Seems logical that the Portuguese pre-dated the Spanish, but seeing as the latter became by far the dominant culture, in trade with them the coastal clade likely adopted a number of loan words as well as some of its syntax. This would make it Spanishish, lol. But unless your wife's dad speaks Spanish as a second language, sounds like his input carries like maybe a quart in a gallon bucket. :)

I went down into it with a fella a while ago but there was no road or nothing so we just tied some ropes together and climbed down the steep side. The new owners that are re-excivating have put up cameras so as to stop people from dumping more stuff in. I could tell why they were doing it though as when I went down I saw a little low grade gold ore made visible by collapse near the bottom.

The founding date was comfirmed in an interview with Edwin "Bud" Steury several years later. The company was originally founded as a winter sideline operation for their farm fertilizer business. There is a lime stone quarry near me where I have gone dirtbike riding with my friends and my family for over 30 years.. in one area of this play riding place is a deep hole about 200 yards round Add about 200 feet deep. There are about 12 or 13 maybe 14 hill climbs going down/up out of this hole known as the super bowl by all who ride their motorcycles, trials bikes, bicycles, quads, dune buggies, jeeps, side-by-side’s, four-wheel-drive vehicles in this area. In the early 90s, there were several cars at the bottom., And every so often, another one shows up, only to be buried by the dust/dirt from erosion of the walls of the Souper bowl itself. The rain collection at the bottom as it carries dirt down from the walls, and it buries them.. this area we ride in it is so hilly, that many of the hills you go down, your back wheel is still coming down one hill as your front wheel starts up another hill.. lots of fun, it’s not that large, it may cover about 2 or 3 square miles.. it’s a play/party area for off road riders in Pennsylvania. Very hilly. Any weekend in the summer, and even during the week, there will be people camping with their motorhomes or tents and pick up trucks, big gatherings, lots of fun..There are videos of this place on UA-cam and even the super bowl at this place Known as Hillsville by riders, and on UA-cam..It almost looks like being in the Arizona desert because of the limestone soil, but it’s in lush Green Pennsylvania

    Not so likely "Stolen". As young drivers, my friends and I drove cars that were nearly wore out. When beyond reasonable efforts to keep them going, it was common to have a late night/very early morning party and drive/push them into a 300' deep partially water filled and abandoned quarry near where we lived. I have a 1956 Ford Crown Victoria in there that I now wish I had saved, 1951 Desoto that belongs there, and a 1946 Chevy Coupe that belongs there too. Junk yard salvage prices of $20 if you could drive it to them made the quarry parties more fun. I don't remember any boats going in there, but getting rid of a junk fiberglass boat these days may make quarry deposits more attractive.

  • @seannyice8130
    @seannyice8130 Рік тому +2

    The one that appears to be a Fiero is actually an AW11 Toyota MR2. The square side duct and radio console give it away to me.

      @yukitakahashi5739 Рік тому +1

      Despite looking a lot like the Fiero, the Fiero's to my knowledge have all fiberglass bodies, so I was gonna guess something like an MR2.

      @@yukitakahashi5739 Simple rule: If a mangled mid-engined car has dented doors, probably an MR2. If the doors aren't bent, or you can see the inside door skeleton, probably a Fiero.

      Some possibly but I'd say most are not old cars back in the day didn't have much value as scrap(20$per ton) so people would give them away for free or just leave them where ever & junk fiberglass boats are almost impossible to dispose of still to this day (nobody wants to take them) so people dump them but I seen in these comments some of that stuff was from old movies I guess that were filmed in that area so I guess they just dumped them there it seems
