This must be the most UA-camd track ever. Is there a timetable to avoid meeting carts going the other way? Great respect for leaving the rock in place.
Fun fact: Some wooden bridges, like this one, have a big water tank a bit higher from it where a guy would sit and wait and if a fire from the hot bits falling down from the steam locomotives were to occur, he would open a valve and basically activate a fire suppression system to stop it from burning down. If you see a tender-like object higher than the tracks itself, that is it. Learnt that from my dad. This might actually be the exact picture he showed me!
Been to this bridge quite a few times and it, too has a water fire suppression system. There's a catwalk under the tracks you can also walk on where you can see a lot of the pipes. Hint: Mountain biking to get there is LOTS easier.

Two of my girlfriends and I hiked this entire trail in Sept 2020, where two of the tunnels were closed off causing us to walk 22 miles that day instead of 12. It was 100+ degree weather that day also lol. watching you guys go through this trail gave me such nostalgia !
Well, your comment provided a quick bit of self-shock therapy for me. I read your post and was like, "ppft, why does this guy have TWO girlfriends. " I don't know if it was jealousy or anger at the idea. 10 seconds later, I realized the nonsense of it all and y'all were just some ladies hiking... I though the whole experience was interesting, so a few sentences up, I decided to start telling this whole little adventure, that happened right here. On this very UA-cam video, in the comments, under a post by @intotheether3803, where she was detailing an account of hiking on a 100+ degree weather that day day. Her post was followed by some laughter at the memory and nostalgia, before being left to be found 2 weeks later, by some gentleman thinking that her post was a humble brag / blatant lie about have 2 girlfriends and/ or hiking. I was that very same gentleman. I decided to turn the whole ordeal into a creative writing assignment to offset and hopefully correct whatever strange response that was initially incited by an innocent memory. One holding a trove of happy experience, despite taking place in a 100+ degree weather that day day. On a side note, in another book, yet to be written of wants and adventures. I want a train trail cart also. It's a great idea, and I hope it materializes in my future reality. With an expression of thanks, JG Zergherder

WOW! What a video!! Powering through the hard times to get what you were working so hard for. And Preston, the words at the end were touching. Some people, like myself, needed to hear “don’t give up when things are hard”. You are the MAN! Keep being you and pursuing the smiles in life!
Super adventure. Right up my alley. Spent many a day exploring old railway grades. Never on a contraption like that, though. Well done. Keep up your love of adventure.
I can't believe even after he was told about conical wheels... he still didn't look up how train wheels work!? It's surprising it didn't fail more often than it did. There are a bunch of rail riding vehicles on youtube.. it's apparent that he didn't look at any of them either. lol. It was still done better than I could have though. Looking forward to round 3.
Conical wheels would have made it worse, he just needed to pay attention to securing the wheels on the axle at the correct gauge like maybe welding them to the axles perhaps. Then yes conical wheels would have helped a lot which could be done in about 30 minutes on a lathe. What made me laugh was thinking you need cell service to use GPS also maybe having a real map and some supplies maybe a tent and camp out or just in case you get stuck. This was a truly half arsed adventure from a half arsed adventurer but it was worth the watch whoever this guy is.
I love it! How the video started as a fun project and towards the end it turned into a motivational video about never giving up, friendship, and how important the right mindset is. Truly inspiring.
I'm glad that you two buys made a follow up video on that journey to the trestle bridge. Great sentiments of encouragement at the end on the video too. Never give up! 🙂
I love the sicere and personal storytelling. It feels as if we were in that kart aswell, through all the highs and lows. I loved the pacing of the video. A masterclasd in editing and enganging the viewer. Amazing work!
I'm just imagining a friend of mine calling being like: "hey, I got some scuffed DIY cart, do you want to go along some abandoned railroad? hello? you still there? can you hear..." *DING-DONG and I'd be at his freaking doorstep
When you go back (with conical wheels) you should bring a satellite messaging device like a Garmin inreach. It would be a really bad situation if the cart broke beyond repair all the way out there, or someone got hurt or had a medical issue.
I am an artist. The next time I am frustrated with a painting I will think of you two, and realize how silly it would be for me to give up. What a fun video.
You're honestly one of the few youtubers who create contents with so much emotions. Most likely because of the perfect use of music. The ones you create and the songs you use. This is crazy good video. Well done!
Everyone is saying “you need conical wheels” but the real answer is that you need both conical and flanged. If you look up images of train wheels you will see that they are slightly conical as they are the optimal shape for self steering on tracks, then they have flanges to keep them from derailing on sharper turns
Gosh this video was such a ride! I'm so glad you made. I had the privilege of biking the very route you took to visit the Goat Canyon Trestle when I was a kid. This video makes me want to go back so bad.
Hey Preston! I know that you will probably not see this, but I really like your content. In the current way that UA-cam is, you are fresh air contentwise. The way you incorporate song into your videos is just crazy! Keep up the outstanding work!!!
I saw a comment about how good the ending was and thought, no way. Then I watched the whole thing. That was one of the best endings I have seen, ever. I don't think you can finish that video without tearing up! Incredible storytelling. Get some damn conical wheels!
I was one of those "conical wheels" guys on the first video, but seeing your enthusiasm, production quality, and effort for just creating an experience with a friend, I don't care how janky your hooptie is.

So many things are right about this video. Young people having fun and sharing an adventure together. An engineering project. The great outdoors. Exploring a piece of history. Solving problems together. I could go on.... great video guys.
I'm from New Zealand, and I've always wanted to visit this bridge. Its such a awesome structure, and heaps of history, for example that collapsed tunnel at the side of the bridge which is why it was built in the first place. A solid 10/10 for effort guys! Well done!
"Heaps". Its confirmed, you're either from NZ or Australia
It's a great hike, beautiful view, definitely don't go in the summer though unless you want to bake
19:40 BRO that is the best cinematic climax you could've made. Absolutely great match with Fix You by Coldplay. You NAILED it
Best comment
100% agree. Fix You is one of my all-time favorite Coldplay songs ever since I discovered it in my parents’ iTunes library back when my dad still used an iPod Nano.
Definitely the Coldplay song at the climax, chef's kiss.
Came here to say this.
that cart has to be the single most half assed thing I've EVER seen.
Seriously, they have this crazy desire to get to this bridge but zero effort in making a good railroad cart. You can literally just copy old pump carts.
And the fact that they haven't put conical wheels on the fuckin thing bugs the shit out of me
You get what you pay for. And he paid very little.
@@samadamms3432seems like he got a lot out of it though, so...your point isn't landing.
@@TheseYeahThesejesus calm down - imagine thinking its about the cart and not the journey and destination - sad man
Then they get there and don't even go on the bridge@@TheseYeahThese

Honestly, that ending was awesome. The only true way to live a happy life is to persevere. And you both did.
As an engineer and now a design architect I was rooting for you to make it the whole time....because it's so rare iteration V2 ever works so early on!!!
Congratulations! It truly is a beautiful sight to see for an engineer!!!!
Nice to hear a "smart" appreciate the efforts of a "noob". Half the tired comments are about conical wheels blah blah. Let the man have his fun/ experience. He still made it to his destination.
This is the best UA-cam video I’ve ever seen. The comedic timing, the energy, the friendship, the determination, the songs??? Your attitude was perfect, thank you so much for making this
This must be the most UA-camd track ever.
There is one, I saw it in another video. A tanker car up in the hills and a long run of pipe going down to the bridge's catwalk.
Been to this bridge quite a few times and it, too has a water fire suppression system.
There's a catwalk under the tracks you can also walk on where you can see a lot of the pipes.
Hint: Mountain biking to get there is LOTS easier.
your friendship is beautiful and your friend’s uplifting message of perseverance and hope is honestly so amazing and touching to hear. i hope y’all stay good friends forever because everyone needs a friend like that.
Thank you Preston and Moe. We buried my younger cousin today. He was 19 years old. I needed a bit of dumb fun/ call of the wild stuff. I don't know why I clicked on your video, but I'm so glad I did. God bless you. Stay safe.

Greetings out of Africa! I came here looking for "rail car rides" - and found a major lesson in life - NEVER GIVE UP! What a video! Thanks for sharing.
As a train engineer, those wheels and the resulting breakdowns were hard to watch. 😂
But this looks like an awesome adventure.
@RufftaMan REALY then explain a real engineer what made the wheel and wheel plate moowe
sideways.. com on deer college.. why was the wheels failing.. i would say the wheels dit what the wheels
and the wheel plate should doo.. so .. witch part was it there was failing it will fail even before
if conical wheels will add more pressure against the failing part.. but what part was failing mr train driver
I dont like the conical wheel Idea. What do you think?

I wasn’t ready for a video of a go-kart on an abandoned railroad to be so emotional.
I have to say, this is one of the most inspirational videos i have ever seen.
I loved your ability to push through, both of you, to see where this adventure lead. How truly worth it it was.

Two of my girlfriends and I hiked this entire trail in Sept 2020, where two of the tunnels were closed off causing us to walk 22 miles that day instead of 12. It was 100+ degree weather that day also lol. watching you guys go through this trail gave me such nostalgia !
Why does the distance increase when 2 tunnels are closed off i.e. the distance is cut short.
Because when the tunnels are closed, you have to hike around it. It adds about 4-5 extra miles for each tunnel closed @@doripenem
With an expression of thanks,
JG Zergherder
Shoutout to those people that make you push through your doubts to get to that finish line.

WOW! What a video!! Powering through the hard times to get what you were working so hard for. And Preston, the words at the end were touching. Some people, like myself, needed to hear “don’t give up when things are hard”. You are the MAN! Keep being you and pursuing the smiles in life!
Respect for not giving up !!!!
I feel like there was far more effort put into taking selfies for this video than there was in building a kart that didn't break down every two miles.
He’s no engineer, but he’s definitely a Trahan clone with some music chops.
Do you know why the kart broke downs every 2 minutes? Because he didn’t use conical wheels. They are imperative for a rail riding vehicle to function
@@LostLeftyLimb 100% agree
Exactly gay fucking video

Amazing use of music as well, especially the original songs
5:28 "Let see how you do UNDER PRESSURE!"
Go-Kart: "Not well..."
@@thedave7760 You're right; it was half-arsed.

*DING-DONG
and I'd be at his freaking doorstep
Beautiful story man. I'm here for the next impossible bridge quest!
When you go back (with conical wheels) you should bring a satellite messaging device like a Garmin inreach. It would be a really bad situation if the cart broke beyond repair all the way out there, or someone got hurt or had a medical issue.
its not thaat far from civilization..using some of these sos beacons would just end up costing you because you didnt really needed it
He could use any modern iPhone instead.
when this guy wakes up when he’s a grandpa he’s going to look back and see what he accomplished.hes kids grand kids r going to be proud of this man.

I love this! Thanks for sharing 🫡
You're honestly one of the few youtubers who create contents with so much emotions. Most likely because of the perfect use of music. The ones you create and the songs you use. This is crazy good video. Well done!
First
Everyone is saying “you need conical wheels” but the real answer is that you need both conical and flanged.
If you look up images of train wheels you will see that they are slightly conical as they are the optimal shape for self steering on tracks, then they have flanges to keep them from derailing on sharper turns
No one saying that he needed conical wheels was suggesting removing the only safety feature on his cart lmao
Honestly, I am shocked that this UA-camr never decided to even check how train wheels actually work.
this all could have been fixed had they just welded the damn flanges to the axle so they couldn't move.
@@itsAkkiii he saw the comments i think he just didnt want to make conical wheels since cylindrical wheels still work
Gosh this video was such a ride!
