Nothing has worked as a blurring primer for me better than the Bliss Block Star sunscreen. It goes on smooth, fills pores, is tinted and doesn’t leave me greasy or too dry. I have combo skin (I’m 35 so a little on the dry side) with huge pores on my nose, some on my cheeks and chin. Sometimes the sunscreen by itself is enough to blur texture and look like a skin tint! Trust me on this one!!
I’m turning 44 in a couple months and find less is more these days when it comes to foundation especially bc they all want to settle in my lines and accentuate them. Needless to say, I am on the hunt for a good pore blurring, line/wrinkle smoothing primer. I paused your vid after each application to really see the results of each primer and it looked like the Covergirl, Loreal, and Tatcha were the top 3 as far as pore blurring. I am for sure going to pick up a couple of these. Thanks for this, it was super helpful.
Does anyone remember the Revlon Youth FX Fill and Blur Primer? They were amazing! There’s two… the one with a sponge tip applicator is thick and doesn’t budge all day. In fact I still have them both. I lucked out a few months ago and randomly found them…. and yes they’re still just as amazing. Ooooo! Actually they’re still sold on Amazon.
I agree with the strivecten , I received it after training at work. And I find that it also helps minimize my fine lines on my forehead that aren’t deep. I have combo skin, dry to normal depending on the day or the weather. I really enjoyed the urban decay face primers that came in the cylinder long components with the pump I believe there were three types. They are discontinued well at least we don’t sell them anymore and I’m bummed. I’ve also recently been using Sunday Riley good genes as a primer. I actually was trained by the rep and he explained when he sells the small version of that product he recommends it as a primer. And it really does make my foundation look gorgeous, by the way I am 41 about to be 42 so definitely in that mid-category of aging. I feel like I’ve used so many primers because I’ve received so many from work that they all just do different things and each one has a little special place in my heart ❤
I find the best way to get that poreless look is to use a putty primer first and press it in, then over top, use a blurring primer. When putting on foundation use a sponge and bounce across the areas you just used primer.
I love the Milani BFF Sunblock mixed with Milani Super Charged Dewy Primer. I have dry skin and a little dull, these two are hydrating and they give me a nice glow. Plus, I live in Fl and that sunblock shocked me how good it works.
I mean it's great to see my go to primer on your list, the wet and wild. I think I'm on my 4th. And I just started working with the elf vitamin C putty primer and I'm finding I love that 1 too! Always fantastic when your favorite primers are drugstore in my book.
Hi Shelley for pore blurring my long time favourite is the Mally primer. I have also used the smashbox one on and off for years - probably one of the first on the market, but I usually use the green version due to rosacea. I am fine with a notable silicone primer, but i'm only using it on certain areas of the face. I use a hydrating primer on other areas and don't mind the double priming for the best look to my makeup. The Elf putty primer is fine (although not a favourite), the Revlon photoready in the short/fat bottle is decent, the laura gellor spackle works under any foundation (although it isn't the most pore blurring) and the bare mineral primers are also pretty blurring. I do like the porefessional - it's also a classic. I really only use these on the centre of my face tbh, which is where I have the stretched pores from aging. Having had dry skin all my life very visible pores are a newer thing for me, although I always liked the smooth look a silicone primer gives. I use eye cream with silicones as an under eye primer - they're more hydrating than a straight up silicone primer (currently the indeed labs one). At present I'm using the Bobbi Brown face base as my hydrating primer on the cheeks and forehead, but I've used the good molecules version and the elf hemp one. These are badged as priming moisturisers and are more hydrating on my dry skin. I do of course have my full skincare and spf underneath. Best wishes.
Hi Shelley. Regarding the Hourglass primer, try the Vanish one. I was never impressed with the Veil primer but I actually bit the bullet and bought that dang vanish one ($$$) after getting a sample. It is really beautiful and the most blurring primer I've ever used on my 56 year old textured, enlarged pore skin.
Sitting here think about how helpful this video is for me right now, so thank you. But then a kitty cat made an appearance and that just made everything 100% better! ❤
I love your hair!!! I finally used my Cover X blurring primer with acne healer ingredients 2 years later and I loved it but I think it is discontinued! I will try these. Thank you!
I loved the Strivectin on you, thank you for a great video. I am useless with make-up, I tend to stick to the same thing all the time and never experiment with anything.
I got more into experimenting by playing with makeup right before bed. There was no pressure to get anything "right" because I wasn't going to work or anything afterwards, and to know I could just wash it all off in a few minutes made me try a lot more things!
I’m going to try the strivectin I actually think I prefer maybelline baby soft over porefessiobal …I use a primer by revlon it’s in a white container bottle with a pump and is mattifying . I love it and I am over forty oily skin
Thanks, Misty! I kept getting questions about primers and I don't know why it didn't click until one day I was like, DUH I don't think I've ever done a primer roundup! lol so here we are!
I needed this video 🙌🏻 I’ve been looking for a good pore blurring primer 👍🏻 I get very dry skin in the winter too. Do you use a humidifier?? If not I cannot recommend one enough!! It is literally life changing. Sleep with it on (and/or throughout the day) and you’ll never wake up with dry skin again 😊
I have to get a new humidifier! They are definitely magic. Mine died last winter and I haven't yet replaced it, but I'm already getting itchy so I need to get on it!
The CaliRay is my new fave! I also really enjoy the WetnWild impossible primer but I've never tried it under my eyes! Thanks for another great video Shelly!!!
After seeing the Strivectin primer on you I quickly placed an order with Sephora while I can still get 20% off. That one really blurred. Enjoyed the video...as always.
Really good video, Shelly, thanks! I've only got one of your favorites in my stash, and have updated my "wish list" to include a couple of others. Great information and review, and it's obvious to everyone, I think, that Ziva is quite enthusiastic on the subject of primers as well! Take care and have a great week!
It's good to know the Wet n Wild is silicone free because high silicone breaks me out so I use the Laura Mercier SPF primer. No blur, but no breakouts either.
The tatcha liquid primer is my favorite! That Maybelline impossible one is nice too. I really wanted to try the caliray primer, but it is clean and the scent is from essential oils, so fellow sensitive skin people beware!
@@galaxyqueenie8166 the tatcha primer? I've never had issues with sunscreen. I wear a lot of different sunscreens and haven't had any issues with any of them but they're all mineral sunscreen. I apply sunscreen first after my skincare, and after 10 minutes I put on primer then makeup. You'd have to try with the sunscreen you use though. Have you had issues with other primers with your current sunscreen? I only use sunscreen that doesn't pill and that dries down, and I've never had any issues with primers with those sunscreens. If you are having issues between your sunscreen and makeup primer it might be your sunscreen being a tricky formula
I love the Caliray, I went a few weeks tho without using it, went to open it, and it came pouring out like water! So never forget to shake without opening it. I don’t mind the scent at all, I find it light and it disappears.
Hey Shelly! Sorry I haven't been commenting much on your videos lately but I always watch! 🤩 I recently tried the wet n wild impossible primer after you mentioned it in a recent video and am loving it!! So thank you for that! I also love the Porefessional, I didn't realize it came in a hydrating version...definitely going to give that one a try. Thanks as always for another great video! Happy Election Day! 🗳
Glad to see you, Kate!! I hope you're staying well! =D Got my I Voted sticker w00t! I've never missed voting in an election but I sure wish my area had more than the boring stickers 😂 I'm always jealous of friends that post the cool custom ones that say the name of the county or at least the state!
My guess is that as long as you give the instatox and skin care time to set in before starting makeup, it would probably be fine. I do my skin care about 20 minutes before I do my makeup so everything has sunk in and set down before I go in with primer.
I love the Elf putty line! I use the bronzer and blush, as well as primer. The hydrating Benefit is awesome as well. I am 57 and have fairly normal skin. Great video!
I definitely want to try the Wet N Wild Impossible primer. I've never used a pore blurring primer. I seem to gravitate towards dewy or illuminating primers. I guess it's time to try one! Thanks for the great information, Shelly! ❤❤
I love a good dewy or illuminating primer but also love pore blurring, so I’m extra and double prime to get the best of both. Lol I put the dewy/illuminate all over and then just put the blurring one on specific areas.
I am doing my own primer comparison for funsies. Strivectin on one side and Tula blurring & moisturizing primer. They are the same or a couple dollars apart in price. So far I can't tell a difference. I think I have gone through two tubes of each so trying to figure out which one I like more. The Tula is supposed to be a radiant base, but it is very subtle. Also getting a lot of use from the Beauty Pie Wonderfilter. I am not really thrilled with the putting my fingers in the pot. I like the pump or squeezy tube better. I used up a Tatcha silk canvas years ago because it was so expensive but did not enjoy it being in that kind of container. Never tried the Elf because of that. I want to try the Benefit Pore minimizing setting spray but will be good, and wait until I finish these others. 😆
I feel like they didn't make any big hubbub about it when it came out. I can't even remember it coming out except that I remember before it existed and after it existed.
I keep thinking lol, another excellent primer for a goo price, for normal to dry skin is by NYX, Hydra Flex, it’s so moisturizing and smells light and fresh. Makeup glides on perfect after. Look for the light blue bottle. I’m tired but think I got close to the name is. Revlon Grip is also great! I have normal skin for the most part.
If you have big pores like me I truly recommend tony moly egg pore primer, cute package and it does its job, the only bad thing is the texture, it might get a little flaky.
I’ve been on a new primer hunt lately for my dry skin and I rediscovered the liquid Tatcha primer and love it!! I also ordered the new Huda jam primer and can’t wait to try it. The Caliray has been out of stock but has great reviews so I’ll be grabbing that when it’s back! Will Tatcha be my HG??? Time will tell lol
The wet n wild is my favorite! I found out about it from you! I have oily skin so it’s great that it works for oily and dry skin. It’s the only one I’ve actually finished and bought a second tube. I may have to try some of your other favorites! Someone below mentioned the mally face defender, have you tried it? I’ve been wanting to!
I tried the strivectin but it peeled bad on me I didn’t see as much with it as I do the loreal age perfect wrinkle n pore blurring primer . I also love the elf putty and the tatcha liquid silk (which is similar to the age perfect imo) but the age perfect is also pretty hydrating
Hi! You gotta try the $5.99! Essence watermelon primer. It’s soooo good, gives your skin a beautiful glow for under your makeup! It doesn’t feel oily or greasy. It absorbs right in! Only thing is Ulta is always sold out. I got lucky the other day and they had 1 left so I grabbed it. You can get it online tho. Watch other reviews, read the Ulta reviews, it’s the 💣!
The StriVectin Line Blurfector is my favorite primer for smoothing lines. The Sephora sale is going on now and they carry it there - go.magik.ly/ml/1xojm/ I use it around my eyes as well. What helps me the most though is skin care to reduce the lines around my eyes over the longer term. The Clarins Total Eye Lift has been a game changer for me (also available in the Sephora sale) - go.magik.ly/ml/1tzv9/
Have you tried the Dermalogica Hydrablur? If so, do you have a recommendation for something similar? I love it, but they've discontinued it. I am a Licensed Esthetician and I used it on all my clients as a finish.
Started watching your videos over the last couple days and honestly love your vibe. I'm not subscribed yet. College tuition season but hoping to soon! I would love a how to color corrector my under I video 😁😁
If you're up for trying a new one I'd be really curious to see how you'd rate the Farsali Skintune Blur! The original formula was holy grail for me, but I know they tweaked it a little when they relaunched and I've been afraid to test it out, haha. I've got a lot of texture and scarring on my cheeks and this has been the only thing to really cover all of that. I'll be checking out the Strivectin in the meantime, though!
I'd probably be between the WnW Impossible and the Caliray - the latter for its good ingredient deck. But doggone the WnW is so good and you can't beat the price!
If I use the porefessional , is there a way to apply my foundation so that it doesn’t disturb the primer underneath (brush, sponge, etc) edit: I have big pores on my cheeks:/
I like to use a flat kabuki style brush or the Elf Ultimate Blending brush (any foundation brush that has a little bit of stiffness and density to it), and instead of rubbing the product in, doing the stipple type motions where I've primed. That way nothing is really moving left to right/up to down, but staying in the same spot but still blending.
Dry to Cardboard dry skin. When I use primer they are: 1. Vitamin Enriched Face Base by Bobbi Brown or 2. Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer by Fab First Aid Beauty If i dare to use a silicone primer it will be Master Prime 400 by Maybelline You mentioned several that I will try. Thank you for a wonderful content.
So expensive but the best I've found is the hourglass vanish airbrush...sigh. the truth is the older you get you will have to start buying the high end stuff because it is the only stuff that truly works long wear on wrinkles and pores.
I haven't tried the Nars but I could not get the Milk primer to work for me without pilling. My guess is it doesn't like something in my skin care or spf, but since I'm pretty set on what I use for all that now, I won't change it for my primer.
Thank you thank you thank you. Just what I was looking for! I’m 68 yrs. I’ll let you know what works for me.
I love the cat.

Dr Brandt Pore Refiner is my holy grail. I’ll try some of these to see if I can find a less expensive alternative.

I haven't tried the face defender but I added it to my list to pick up!
@@goow so excited to hear your thoughts!
Do you use a water based or silicone based foundation on top of the wet and wild primer ? 😊
Any!! That WnW primer has worked with literally everything I've worn it with. It's an all time favorite for me.
You are so pleasant and nice. Thank you.
you should show it on your nose thats where my pores are the worst so which would you recommend for the nose
I think any of these would work for the nose as well. I do apply to my nose but my pores are largest/most visible to the sides of my nose.
Oooh I haven't tried the Essence but they sure do knock some stuff out of the park. I'll definitely grab it!! Thanks!
@@goow I hope your store has it, I had to check a few times then they finally did. Your skin would love it 😍
Due to aging,I have fine lines around my eyes will you please recommend a primer that can address this. I don’t have pore issues. Thank you ❤
The StriVectin Line Blurfector is my favorite primer for smoothing lines.
@@goow Thank you ❤️💯
Have you tried the Dermalogica Hydrablur? If so, do you have a recommendation for something similar? I love it, but they've discontinued it. I am a Licensed Esthetician and I used it on all my clients as a finish.
I never tried that one unfortunately :(
Have you ever tried the Peter Thomas Roth Skin to Die for primer? If so, what did you think of it?
Ooooh no I haven't but I do love PTR.... added to my list to buy!
Fairly new to primers and I can’t see any difference with any of them. What am I missing? Thank you!
The differences are usually subtle but primarily (at least on me) I'm looking for fewer visible pores and less visible texture.
Started watching your videos over the last couple days and honestly love your vibe. I'm not subscribed yet. College tuition season but hoping to soon!
I would love a how to color corrector my under I video 😁😁
Thanks, Lexi! College first! I'll be here when you're done =D Enjoy the ride!!
L’Oréal Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base is my favorite, but it’s being discontinued. Ack!
I knew I should have waited! I just bought stuff from sephora not too long ago 😟
You could always return/exchange, they have a good return policy 🎉
If you're up for trying a new one I'd be really curious to see how you'd rate the Farsali Skintune Blur! The original formula was holy grail for me, but I know they tweaked it a little when they relaunched and I've been afraid to test it out, haha. I've got a lot of texture and scarring on my cheeks and this has been the only thing to really cover all of that. I'll be checking out the Strivectin in the meantime, though!
If you could only pick one. Which one would it be ? Xxx
I'd probably be between the WnW Impossible and the Caliray - the latter for its good ingredient deck. But doggone the WnW is so good and you can't beat the price!
Tatacha combination to dry skin.
@@goow thank u I will try that! Yea I was thinking sponge isn’t the best and leaning towards brush, so this really helps :)
Dry to Cardboard dry skin. When I use primer they are:
1. Vitamin Enriched Face Base by Bobbi Brown or
2. Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer by Fab First Aid Beauty
If i dare to use a silicone primer it will be Master Prime 400 by Maybelline
You mentioned several that I will try. Thank you for a wonderful content.
Cardboard dry is in the house right here! lol
@@goow 😅
So expensive but the best I've found is the hourglass vanish airbrush...sigh. the truth is the older you get you will have to start buying the high end stuff because it is the only stuff that truly works long wear on wrinkles and pores.
My grandson has Pokemon just like your in back ground
Yay!!! I still play Pokemon Go every day :)
I wish clean skincare/makeup meant NO fragrance or essential oils!
Yep I share that wish.
💜🌺🌷💕
I find that elf products are too scented for me.
The Benefit did *nothing* for me
Bummer :( I hope you were able to return it!
Milk? Nars Radiant primer? Maybe not be a pore blurrer.
I haven't tried the Nars but I could not get the Milk primer to work for me without pilling. My guess is it doesn't like something in my skin care or spf, but since I'm pretty set on what I use for all that now, I won't change it for my primer.
