- My experience of Ria restaurant in Preston was good. Crispy chicken was the stand out.
I am fan of Indonesian food. So far I have tried three Indo restaurants in Melbourne;

the rule of thumb when you search for indonesian restaurants, there is bigger chance that the food is authentic when they put the owner face as a logo.

Tapi lebih melanglang buana di luar negeri daripada expansi di dalam negeri.

in Indonesia the fork is used only when eating noodles, besides that we use a spoon, I sometimes wonder western people cut chicken, meat or eat rice using a fork, Isn't that difficult ???
I am used to using fork. Having said that, I also use chopsticks 🙂

I see no white rice...wheres the white rice?🤪🤪🤪 I know theres no rule how to eat food, but indonesians always eat the side dishes with rice or lontong(compressed rice cake). One of the reasons is that the dishes might be too salty, spicy etc when eaten seperately. The rice will balance it out. Another reason, back in the days, any kind of meat and veggies are more expensive than rice. So people would eat more rice to fill up their tummy. As time went by, this custom of eating more rice out of necessity, the rich also adopted it. So now everybody rich, poor whatever eat everything with rice.
Agreed. Their menu is somewhat different. I did a vlog last year of another Indonesian restaurant which was in the City. Its called Blok M. Their dishes were with rice.

Why you didn’t eat it with the rice? The main Indonesian culinary concept is always eat all the full of spices dishes with rice. It will make the taste more balance. The intense taste of the spices, made coz it will pair with the rice.
When i ordered the food i totally forgot to order rice. Next time i'll make sure to order rice 🙂
@@i_love_chilli aah sooo, To eat fish, chicken or meat in Indonesian food is not like eating a beef steak or fish n chips in western style that can be eaten alone.
Without rice, the taste of Indonesian dishes will be to tense & strong. For satay or soto ( soup), mostly we eat with lontong or ketupat ( rice cake). But rice is a must and the main dish to Indonesian. Others we call it side dishes. 😀

@@i_love_chilli Mate. Almost any kind of Indonesian's Satay is BEST with LONTONG or KETUPAT (a sort of Indonesians' Rice Cake). Not with Rice.
Especially IF you are eating:
Satay (Sate) Padang.
It is a Minang's or West Sumatrans' or Padang city's spicy and with some kind of thick curry-based sauce version, of Beef or Chicken or Buffalo meat Satay.
But, any Satay with Rice is quite acceptable, in general.
