Glad you posted this. I just purchased a 99 sport. Ordered tube fenders. Heavy equipment mechanic for 12 yrs now. Not a body man by any means but this looks pretty straight forward. Mine is a rust bucket...fenders and frame repair are in my quarantine future.
I got almost the same fenders for my 06 this last Christmas and I’ve been super anxious to put them on because of the cutting, it’s nice to see it done probably gonna tackle it this week 😎
i used to be the same way. but 15+ years of welding and fabrication definitely made me less squeamish. just know that there isn't really too much damaged that you can do in this kind of install that cant be undone, albeit with some skill and effort.
Cause I live in the Northeast. All that cutting, all I see is future rust. If I were to do this, prep, prime, paint, and seal everything.....with like 3 coats of everything. Even using caulk on the seams. I'm having to redo my rear bumper AGAIN....cause the paint I used was not water tight enough. So much wire wheeling.
Nice video. I do like the retro-flat fender look along with off road protection. But I would have primed and painted the cut edges. Also water is going to get between the cut off fender and the new fender. If that fender flexes at all the water, salt, grit are going to cause rust through at the flex/rub point. I would seal under the new fenders with truckbed or under body sealer to prevent that. The other alternative would be to add a bead of non-silicone sealer around the edges before installing the new fender. Here in Michigan we always look for spots like that. Maybe not so important in the desert. Also what are you doing for turn signals and parking lights?
Did this to my YJ simple project as long as your careful as you mentioned. I was able to do most mine with turbo shears IMO less likely to rust. What I did with a cut off wheel I cut strong and shaved with bulldog snips, just a little tip for all commenting about rust. Other wise clean and prime well with a coat of paint should eliminate the rust issue.
Almost looked like a Rubicon sticker on the hood, Glad to see it was something else. Don't know why but it bothers me to see Rubicon stickers on a sport.
Hey Gentlemen! Great Work. How far do those rear fender flares stick out from body? Thanks. Love the Combination of Great Work and Humor With Matt from you!!!
I put a set of these on my wrecked TJ. They are super cheap but seem ok. They have started to rust after a year of use. But for the price I will just buy another set in 4 or 5 years.
Good video. I’ve been considering putting one on, and I may just do it now. Biggest question I have is why does that old CJ (possibly M-38A1) have a flat front tire? More than likely an old CJ, but I can’t see enough for my old eyes.
With all the places for water to get trapped, in those new fenders, ie, the old fender cuts. Mud and water will get trapped between the old fender and new pipe fender, aren’t there going to be rust issues, in a quick amount of time? Then if you try to seal it it’s hard to do, a tiny crack will let water in and sit and rust. What are your thoughts? That’s the reason, I have pressed pause on purchasing new fenders.
If you don't see it, a few coats of primer should be fine. If I ever drill a hole in my body (corner guards, for example) I just paint the holes with a nail polish that matches the color of my body. Keeps the metal protected and much less hassle than any kind of spray paint.
Great video! Can you tell me or provide a link to that front bumper and winch plate? Looks like the Rock Crawler bumper but not sure how or if I can mount a winch on it.
I have similar fenders and definitely regret putting them on. They look cheap and have started rusting. Gonna be putting on aluminum genrights in the future
Hi, I installed aftermarket fenders and duo this installing I had to remove stock turning lights. Also I installed new headlights with turning lights as well so tried several combinations with the wires and didn’t get any luck! The lights are blinking like the bulb burned out. Do you guys have any ideas how to get it work properly?
Ur not going to get that much more up travel. Yes the limiting factor now is the fender. After you highline it and reduce the bumpstop the shocks become the limiting factor. You will have to relocate the shocks and get longer ones
I never said up travel. I said less lift. Read the sentence. You can now roll on 35s with a 2.5 lift compared to having a 4” lift or higher. LCG is the way to go. Also you wouldn’t need to relocate shocks. Just get a limiting strap for the shocks down travel.
lol if you change your own oil and and suspension good with a wrench, now cut off side fender with a grinder.. lol.. damn thats too soon..i think my next step is to swap steering stabalizer.
The barricade fenders rust like a son of a gun... If you live somewhere they salt the roads think twice... if your state has safety inspections for your license plates make sure you get DOT approved lights.
all this cutting really doesn't make it worth the slightly lower price, plus you can never go back. In my opinion spend another $200 and get the metalcloak which are bolt on and look way better.
Bob Nickelson you can buy them from the website for $600. Unpainted and steel, but still it’s $600. Aluminum and their coating will cost more. But base price is $600

Looks great! Love the headlights! Hoping to buy a Tj this year! 😁
Like that motivation speech at the end 👍🏼
Awesome I'm building a set of sort tube flat fender fender flares on my Grand Cherokee it definitely dresses up the Jeep

*quick and easy*
Takes several hours of measuring and cutting and prepping. Uses power tools.
Great video. I have been wanting to do that to my TJ but I do not have the nerve to cut my fenders.
Thanks! It's not as bad as you think! Just take your time and have a plan

I hope I’m not the only one who closed my eyes when you were blowing the drill shavings off the fender.
Lol 🤘

Thanks Nate. Good advice, as usual.
Thank you!
Awesome video, your brother has good taste in parts. I have the same front bumper and front fenders.
I had the same issue with another style fender and the battery box. The second one went way faster.
Flat top fenders always look great on the Wranglers (CJ style). Would be interesting what the park and turn signal lights will look like. Thanks
Aelwesome video bro. Thanks man!
Great video. I bought a similar knock off brand off Amazon and this will help me out. (No instructions included)
Like the cj in the background
Almost looked like a Rubicon sticker on the hood, Glad to see it was something else. Don't know why but it bothers me to see Rubicon stickers on a sport.
Why? It's just a overpriced sticker
you must be a Rubicon owner.?.
It bothers me seeing All Terrains on a Rubicon.
I debadged my OEM Rubicon because there so over used
Alot of help i have the same jeep with those fenders
I love those headlights. What are they
Hey Gentlemen! Great Work. How far do those rear fender flares stick out from body?

Nice job Nate! Solid advice about watching where you're cutting!
🤘thanks man!

Great video..bout to do those fenders. U made that clear

Perfect timing, I'm looking to install a set on my scrambler
Scrambles looks great with tube fenders in my opinion!

What do you do for rust protection between the double sheats of metal and cutting edges?
I had the same concern. Especially in his neck of the woods.
@@chadalcock7275 They don't use salt up there

Off Driver live in texas
Another great video... makes me miss my Tj...
Great video! Can you tell me or provide a link to that front bumper and winch plate? Looks like the Rock Crawler bumper but not sure how or if I can mount a winch on it.
Damnit Nate you make me want a TJ but around here there expensive
They are expensive here as well! You just have to keep you eye out. An affordable one pops up every once in a while
Thanks
I have similar fenders and definitely regret putting them on. They look cheap and have started rusting. Gonna be putting on aluminum genrights in the future
3:08 What is that black box behind the washer fluid container? Mine has a lit of hoses that go there, but that part is missing.
Evap canister
I like how they add more ventilation for the engine compartment without opening the wheel well.
Me too! Definitely an overlooked feature
Will this work for the Barricade flat fenders too? Thanks fellas
What are those rear flairs? Ive been looking for that exact set
Hey what size tires are those and how many inches of lift does he have on that Jeep. I like the stance it has.
I’m actually about to throw on some fishbones that look just like this. Sick video!
Awesome video ! What was the name of the fenders you installed on you brothers Jeep ?
5:28 is it just me or does the shock look like the piston isnt going into the body of it straight?
Hay Nate would those fit a yj the look pretty good thanks
pretty sure they're the same flares. you can look on ebay for the same ones at about ~$125 for the yj. Just did mine about a month ago
I think they do, but I'm not 100 percent. Check the barricade website for fitment. Thanks for watching!
Awesome job ! Where did your brother get the tube fenders from ?
Thank u Nate
So I can eliminate the factory turn signals on the finders
Hi, I installed aftermarket fenders and duo this installing I had to remove stock turning lights. Also I installed new headlights with turning lights as well so tried several combinations with the wires and didn’t get any luck! The lights are blinking like the bulb burned out. What did you do for turn signals?
Nice job , it fits in better with the front tube bumper 👍 you could straighten it up for him as well 😉
Is that forest, emerald, or moss green?
How does the like the Goodyear Kevlar’s? I’m looking at getting 35’s and really thinks about them hard.
did you treat the newly-expose cut steel?
Good tips
Wouldn't it look neat if you connect the end of the bumper to the fenders?
Great vid!!
Everyone is just trying to add alittle "flair" to their jeeps😎👍
Hi, what is the diameter of the fender pipe
Bad boys
Why not go the route of high fenders? Less lift needed.
Agreed. More work but much better
Unless its metalcloak you need to cut the hood.
Ur not going to get that much more up travel. Yes the limiting factor now is the fender. After you highline it and reduce the bumpstop the shocks become the limiting factor. You will have to relocate the shocks and get longer ones

What would you charge a total stranger to do this? What would you charge insurance company to fix this?
lol if you change your own oil and and suspension good with a wrench, now cut off side fender with a grinder.. lol.. damn thats too soon..i think my next step is to swap steering stabalizer.
Turn signal delete?
His headlights have a turb signal built in but we added a little led light on the fender as well
Ain't that the battery tray location for right hand drive
I've never messed with rhd just always my understanding
Seems like a lot of work for tube fenders.
Why do you have to cut the fender? Why can’t you just unbolt it off and put the new one on?
The barricade fenders rust like a son of a gun... If you live somewhere they salt the roads think twice... if your state has safety inspections for your license plates make sure you get DOT approved lights.
Nate love your videos. You need to quit working on those other ugly rigs and fix the CJ with a flat thats been sitting there forever!!!
Dude, you made a video of the easy side.
What is harder about the other side I'm about to do this I could use the info
"Saws ALL" it's a trade mark from Milwaukee. many people say "saz awe" but just sayin.
Sawsall not saw zaw
all this cutting really doesn't make it worth the slightly lower price, plus you can never go back. In my opinion spend another $200 and get the metalcloak which are bolt on and look way better.
Love to know where your getting metal cloak fenders for a TJ for $500.
Bob Nickelson well in the video he said those fenders were $300-$400 he didn’t know. I don’t know either. And Metalcloak fenders are $600. 600-400=200
@@bobnickelson221 I agree, he/she is out to lunch. I paid $1,000 (aluminum inner fender well).
My jeep club here in Michigan has a member who's a dealer for MetalCloak and we still cant get into a set for a TJ for less than $700
Bob Nickelson you can buy them from the website for $600. Unpainted and steel, but still it’s $600. Aluminum and their coating will cost more. But base price is $600
Why'd you cut through those I would have totally bought him off you
thats why i went poison spyder fenders
Giving a thumbs down because you didnt paint the bare metal where you cut off the old fender so it's going to rust
What is actually the point of this?
Two things. Tire clearance; and it gets rid of those nastyugly tj blinker/markers.
That front bumper does not match that jeep
What did you do with the turn signals?
