Greetings Sneelock! I also own a 9C SB lathe. I bought mine about ten years ago and sadly, had not had the time to dedicate to setting it up and using it all that time. Well, I am happy to say that I finally have it set up and am using it. Like you, I am gradually restoring it.
You have such Really Neat Equipment! If I Only knew more so many years ago, I would Not have been Robbed of things here I used, and appreciated. Always made to feel I didn't know what I was talking about. - Latter, found out I DID. Thanks for Class!
Shame you couldn't lap it in. THe Saw Surgeon told me about lapping the 5-horse Briggs flywheels so they could advance the timing before the woodruff keyway and it held fine. It'd be interesting to see a lap holding a #2 Morse all right but I'll settle for it just working. Like you said, it's been through a LOT since it was new. Ain't we all! Thanks, Unc! Cooling off and windy here. Mowing tomorrow I betcha
Oh, I believe that in a SHORT second. Before our girl got hitched, Cheryl dolled her up and took her over to the local (ish) Arboretum for some sweet pre-wedding shots. One was her standing in front of a gate laughing. HEE-HAWing! Before Cheryl got her bathroom remodeled it stayed on the toilet tank in my bathroom . Talk about disconcerting in a number of ways!!! I could handle a barn door, NO problem.
I wouldn't be to hard on that reamer I bet the glaze on the inside of the taper is as hard as diamond after all these years of use I bet a file would bounce of it at first .and looking at it there's telltale signs on all the flutes of touching and if the taper is as much as half a fleas wedding tackle off round it will only touch the highs. I've got quite a few reamers and they are super useful now you've got it you'll find yourself using it more they are a darn site easier to open the I.D. On a hole by a few thou than filing or waddling a drill in the hole and it keeps it perfectly round.. very interesting video yet again unc thanks
When faced with a lack of the proper tool we Sneelockites turn to the Handyman's Secret Weapon. The four pounds of gray matter encased between our ears. That and Duck Tape. 😊
Hello, I have that same lath and the wheel on the tail stock is just like yours with no nut on the outside. How do you remove this wheel? I have no idea and cant fine how to do it.
It has been a long time since I disassembled the tailr stock. I will have to take a look. I think the quill will slide out if you crank it all the way and there might be a pin holding the thread in the tailstock.
@@OldSneelock Thank you for the reply. I was able to pull the thread out and had to beat the quill out with a punch because it was just filled with chips and getting the quill stuck
..did the marker puddle up in one place on the inside?? my brother,(the machinist), said they will take their tapered shafts and cool them a bit so when they heat up they expand and grip better. i know it worked on a center i have on the shopsmith. if that don't work i have some liquid friction stuff i put on my friction calls for turkeys...!

It is a good machine. I hope yours works as well for you as the two I have owned have for me.
Ok now it looks good, without taking off much metal, looks to be a success.
Long time subscriber here. You produce great videos. Keep up the good work.
A little oil and a little care those old Southbends will last forever.
They are built to last. I have an oil can and a catch pan under the bed. Both are used frequently. 😊

Lewie McNeely Sunshine and breezy here right now. I am hanging a new barn door on the bathroom. Lots of laughs from that one. 😈

I was about to suggest using layout dye (or marker) to check the taper when you grabbed a marker and did it! I guess great minds think alike (lol)!

Does it go 'I'll support you no matter what you come up with'??? A d.c. turkey call. That'd get 'em.
I believe that the latest version of that turkey call is the sound of one or two million or dollars being dropped into a Cayman Islands bank account.
Yessir! NO doubt!
good to see the lathe get some attention, give it a bit of oil from me!
