      Overweight I have the MT kit too, and to get a decent kick tone in my mix I added some compression (from the DAW) and boosted the lows a bit in the EQ section. Overall it's a decent kit as a free plugin, and its actually usable for practice and maybe some demos, but it is what it is.

  • @chrisshirley4877
    @chrisshirley4877 4 роки тому +2

    Your video was quite helpful. I personally judge a digital drum kit by the sound of the toms. While you covered many of the available functions of these kits, you spent little time focusing on the toms. I would love to see such a comparison video that puts a little more focus on the tom sounds.

  • @therealjackfisher
    @therealjackfisher 4 роки тому

    I used MT powerdrumkit 2 for almost everything. That kit is very flexible. You can even play metal on it if you dial some knobs on compressor and EQ. I wanted to try SSD5 but I could not get it to work. Drumkit software is in the future plans, but as for now I will stick to my MT powerdrumkit 2. Sehnhiser drum kit I have not seen before I have to try it. Maybe I like it more them MT. Another very powerfull tool that is completly free and included in Cakewalk by Bandlab is the Drum Replacer. If you dont like the sound of your drums you can always replace them by rightclicking on your drum track and choosing drum replacer. This powerfull tool is a little hidden so most users probably dont know it is there. If you dont have Drum replacer installed launch your cakewalk installation program from your bandlab app and after launching the latest version of installation it should be there.

  • @lunakid12

    Nice that you mentioned the low-velocity problem with MT PowerDrumKit2. It's next to impossible to add really soft (almost ghost) grace notes sometimes: I had to zoom in to the velocity lane recently just to make the vel. bars >1 pixel (so that I can drag them further down) for some snares(?) that were still too loud.

  • @LittleRichard1988
    @LittleRichard1988 4 роки тому

    MT Power drum kit 2 and Drum Pro 64 are probably the next step I should take to possibly build up to getting EZ drummer. I use Groove Agent One the most and managed to create hundreds of custom drum kits in addition to all the preset kits. I'm quite surprised the Drum Mic'a is a licensed Kontakt library as often free Kontakt libraries tend to only work with the full version even though I recently thought about weather or not I should buy Kontakt. Drums are arguably the most important element to any track as they provide the rhythm. Those 3 drum kits are surprisingly realistic enough to fool the average listener. Computer Music used to give away real drum samples with their magazine discs. There's always room for upgrade with VST drums.

    If worst case I'm no longer in a position to buy anymore paid VSTs because during lockdown I'm off work unpaid followed by
    not ever going back to work then I would certainly use SSD5 heavily for it's cymbals as well as MT drummer 2 and I could still
    use other snare drums I have loaded into groove agent one with it.
    Drum Pro also has some clean drum machine samples, I have often found it very hard to get decent TR-808 or 909 sounds with
    many drum VSTs including Arturia Spark.

    Having used MT power drumkit, it's good.
    The SSD, I think it's an upgrade, definitely trying.
    The pro drummer, not for my genre.
    The Sennheiser drums - Too much info and too many stuff and bad UI so a no for me, but I think it will be pretty darn powerful if you can use it properly.
    Lastly the cakewalk included stuff is also good, but track separation goes a long way.

    Neat vid man. I need one for metalcore style music, double kicks an such. Then one for making trap-dubstep. Any recommendations for free drum kits for that?

    My friend, do you know if there is a trigger drum free plugin, like Steven Slate Trigger 2 or drumagog? Thank you

      I wish I had good news for you! I use the commercial Addictive Drums one. The only free one I'm aware of is KTDrumTrigger, but I haven't personally tried it. I must say - it looks a little complicated :( www.smartelectronix.com/~koen/KTDrumTrigger/

      There is a free one in cakewalk by bandlab. It is called drum replacer. You have to download it separately the same as the free plugins.

      Say you had an electronic drum kit, you go into the settings and check that the ride cymbals note is the same as on your software

      You have to set the VST plugin folder in your DAW to where the plugins are installed

    Thanks for this video, and congratulation on your channel, which I follow with interest despite my familiarity with CbB since the very first Sonar 1.0.
    One thing that I couldn't successfully find is a drum plugin, free or not, that has a sound for snares similar to the ones of Jeff Porcaro, or Nick Mason during the period of "The Wall". I love the snares included in those plugins, and some of them they look absolutely realistic (a la Yes, o Carl Palmer), but sometimes I would like to have those Porcaro's kind of sounds, and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't manage... anyone has any suggestion?

    Mike, can you do a video on how to get Electronic drums to work with a drum VST (Addictive drums, MT Power Drum Kit) in cakewalk connected via MIDI. cannot seem to get mu Alesis DM10 to work. not sure if im doing something wrong or if it just isnt working. I have a human drummer that wants to record some drum parts for me to finish a project. any help from you or community would be appreciated

    I have #1 (which I registered to remove the nag screen) and #3 which isn't nearly so good because it is BIG! No way would I ever consider #5.

    Which drum program has the best sequencer? I've got EZ drummer 2 but it doesn't work in my Studio One 4 professional, and the sequencer it come with is a hassle....
