Do you guys know of any good free DAWS I can use with my edrums? Sorry I'm new to electronic drums and trying to expand my crappy sounding module... Thank
Great list of free drum plugins, and I appreciate that they have both Mac and Windows versions. Also, I counted only 4 "quirky-related" references in the Line of Legends review. (I pay attention and have OCD.) 🙂 Thank you for your work!
Many thanks for putting this together, there's so much to choose from out there you're never sure if you're going down a blind alley or not. This/these lists are always well worth investigating . . . so I now have two of the products in my DAW. many thanks
Overweight I have the MT kit too, and to get a decent kick tone in my mix I added some compression (from the DAW) and boosted the lows a bit in the EQ section. Overall it's a decent kit as a free plugin, and its actually usable for practice and maybe some demos, but it is what it is.
Your video was quite helpful. I personally judge a digital drum kit by the sound of the toms. While you covered many of the available functions of these kits, you spent little time focusing on the toms. I would love to see such a comparison video that puts a little more focus on the tom sounds.
I used MT powerdrumkit 2 for almost everything. That kit is very flexible. You can even play metal on it if you dial some knobs on compressor and EQ. I wanted to try SSD5 but I could not get it to work. Drumkit software is in the future plans, but as for now I will stick to my MT powerdrumkit 2. Sehnhiser drum kit I have not seen before I have to try it. Maybe I like it more them MT. Another very powerfull tool that is completly free and included in Cakewalk by Bandlab is the Drum Replacer. If you dont like the sound of your drums you can always replace them by rightclicking on your drum track and choosing drum replacer. This powerfull tool is a little hidden so most users probably dont know it is there. If you dont have Drum replacer installed launch your cakewalk installation program from your bandlab app and after launching the latest version of installation it should be there.
Nice that you mentioned the low-velocity problem with MT PowerDrumKit2. It's next to impossible to add really soft (almost ghost) grace notes sometimes: I had to zoom in to the velocity lane recently just to make the vel. bars >1 pixel (so that I can drag them further down) for some snares(?) that were still too loud.
All of these sound really good, especially 1 and 5. The free tools available today for drum sounds and guitar amp simulation just blow even the pro productions of the past out the water.
Thanks Mike, another illuminating video. You may need to warn people that with the last VST, Sennheiser says that since May'20 it has a limited time install in the free Kontakt player. If you want a permanent install, you'll need Kontakt 6. A bit rich for my appetite at $599 AUD, ha ha. Absolutely feasting on your Cake...walk videos :)) Brilliant stuff, thanks matey

MT Power drum kit 2 and Drum Pro 64 are probably the next step I should take to possibly build up to getting EZ drummer. I use Groove Agent One the most and managed to create hundreds of custom drum kits in addition to all the preset kits. I'm quite surprised the Drum Mic'a is a licensed Kontakt library as often free Kontakt libraries tend to only work with the full version even though I recently thought about weather or not I should buy Kontakt. Drums are arguably the most important element to any track as they provide the rhythm. Those 3 drum kits are surprisingly realistic enough to fool the average listener. Computer Music used to give away real drum samples with their magazine discs. There's always room for upgrade with VST drums.
Thanks Mike, Going to download the DrumMica for sure! they sound pretty good to me, cant believe all the free stuff these days. Liked and Subbed! Hope your keeping well too
