юсиф алиев Isaac Bruce was a terrific wide receiver that is underrated/overlooked. So was Holt for that matter.
There’s a logjam at WR, it’s going to be difficult for a lot of excellent wideouts to get in. Because of the way the game is now, different rules and different offensive philosophies, there’s a lot of quality wideouts with numbers that dwarf HOF WRs of the past. Same thing with quarterbacks.

Every QB, running back and Wide Receiver knows that the core of their success is the effectiveness of the offensive line. People who have never played high school football does not understand. The same way the success of linebackers is often because of the effectiveness of their defensive tackles ability to hold off blockers. I didn't understand the role of defensive tackles until I played linebacker in high school.
In other words, if you've never played organized football, you may not understand why James Long is saying.

    • @zakdean3002
      @zakdean3002 3 роки тому

There’s a lot of guys from the 60s-80s NFL that suffer from their numbers being usurped so dramatically. Kinda like they said about Andre Reed. It was such a different sport. You look at HOF and Pro Bowl QBs from the past and without context it seems crazy that they were even starters. Jim Zorn won ROY as QB of the Seahawks in 76 with 12 Tds 27 ints and a 47% completion rate. They talk about what a great mobile Qb he was but he never rushed for more than a couple hundred yds in a season. Admittedly Largents numbers do stand up better, but still, guys like Rice, Moss, Harrison, Megatron, Fitzgerald, AB, and so on make it unfortunately easier to forget guys like Largent. Which probably made him ideal for this list lol.

I was a huge fan of Barry Sanders growing up and i remember how Curtis Martin's game reminded me of Barry's. Not because of his height, Martin was almost 6ft and had the agility of a smaller back. He was a top tier athlete that could jump over the offensive line and had the speed and agility to make people miss. A good comparison of body types would be that of Marshall Faulk. The only reason Marshall gets praise over Martin is because of the offensive system he was in. Marshall was part of the most explosive offenses in history, and Martin was stuck with the Patriots (before they were "The Patriots") and then the Jets....(enough said). Martin has roughly 2k more rushing yards than Marshall and played one less year (Marshall was in a passing offense which is why he has over 6k passing yards). I agree completely that Curtis Martin is underrated.

He probably gets overlooked because he played with Joe Namath, who overshadows everyone and everything Jets-related from mid to late 60s. Another comment about Ken Anderson:
When you look at the 49ers' Superbowls of the 1980s, Ken's offense did about the same production against the 49ers defense as the *Dan Marino Dolphins and the John Elway Broncos* , with the Bengals' defense keeping it close until the end. If you can match the production of Marino and Elway against one of the greatest teams ever assembled, you deserve a LOT more consideration.

randallross420 not even close. Lavonte David is a 1x pro bowler whose career hasn’t wrapped up yet.
Aeneas Williams was on the 90s all decade nfl team, made 8 pro bowls on losing teams and yet most fans don’t remember his name. He is the personification of an underrated player.

I agree he is slightly overrated, but maybe not enough so to warrant a spot here. He was a very very good player on a lackluster Rams franchise.

After smoking a blunt. But coming home with my brother in Baltimore, he show was the icing on a great cake of hanging and partying. He would invite callers to open beers and party with him and the mic'd up the sound of a can of beer poppin'. Man those were the raw non PC days of sports radio.

This episode was made before 2014 since it talks about Andre Reed not being in the HOF, which he now is after 2014 election, I believe Cliff Branch should be on the list since hes not in the HOF.. 501 receptions, 8695 receiving yards, 67 TDs - 3 super bowl rings, almost the same as John Stallworth 537 receptions, 8723 yards, 63 TDs.. and dont get me started on Lynn Swan who had less than 350 receptions and is in the HOF

Nobody underrates Bart Starr. Certainly not the people who ultimately matter most in determining this: the HOF voters. He was a first ballot hall of famer while Roger Craig bafflingly is still not in the HOF after 27 years…

If this list aired today, I have one name in today’s game that should be on there:
Harrison Smith. All time great safety, should be talked about in the same sentence as guys like Troy Polamalu, Ed Reed, Ronnie Lott and Rod Woodson, but barely gets mentioned when the “pros” talk about today’s best safeties.

One NFL player that does not receive his due in Canton and to me is considered underrated is former Miami Dolphins Linebacker #54 Zach Thomas. This dude was amazing on the gridiron. He was tough, persistent, and most of all played the game while always giving 100%. Look him up and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Jason Taylor made it to the Hall of Fame but some don’t remember that Zach Thomas was just as good if not better than Taylor. For the love of God enshrine Zach Thomas into Canton already!

The fact that Starr is in the same argument for best Packers QB alongside fun-but-can't-get-it-done Favre and Rodgers says it all, especially this week with all the stories coming out of Green Bay. He was clearly a winner and a leader.

Heres what I don't understand. Jerry Rice is the greatest WR of all time and he played with Montana and Young, the same argument thats made for Jerry Rice as the GOAT, should be used on Marvin Harrison Sr when it comes to who is the best WR of the 21st Century. This was a guy who yes played with Peyton Manning, but he was so smart when it came to understanding where the ball was going, and he always found ways to beat the guy who was covering him. And like Jerry Rice, Harrison's main attributes were route running and finding ways to get open.
