welcome back Lee and sorry this happened to you. I can 100% understand how you accidentally downloaded some weird file. I do always double check first contact, but like you said, sometimes you get smaller brands that use Gmail so that doesn't always work. Thanks for some security tips, I'll definitely consider a security key moving forward.

Sorry for that man, but good that you’re back on track… I also received 2 of those scams emails last month (which I didn’t really care about…) and another one 2 days ago. Realizing how similar the pattern of those emails were (always with a link to click on) that’s when I realized there’s something fishy. First thing I did was to come on UA-cam to watch videos around scams content creators might face on the platform.
Fortunately, I’m always using VPN.
Just a bit disappointed that UA-cam doesn’t warn about these issues.
This is not something many of us think about often so thank you for sharing! Glad you got it worked out.

Yes you can set it up to multiple accounts. And other sites that support it as well
The same thing has happened to me this week. I got 2FA warnings and I secured the account straight away but all my content is gone! Google/UA-cam support are emailing me and it's reassuring...... I haven't got my content back yet but i'm hopeful since you mentioned it took over a week to get yours back.

You are so lucky that this wasn't a Ransomware attack. Could you imagine everything being encrypted so you can't even access your data unless you pay the ransom price? One wrong click and you are infected before you can even do anything. Even your cloud based storage is vulnerable if it is online at the the time. It's unfortunate that they are people doing this on a regular basis. There needs to be stronger enforcement laws and repurcussions for the individuals that are involved in this type of activity. Never use autologin on anything and make sure to perform *"offline"* backups regularly.

SO A FEW MINUTES AGO I GOT A NOTIFICATION ON UA-cam THAT "MY VIDEO" GOT STRIKED EVEN THOUGH I DIDNT POST ANYTHING. AFTER A MINUTE I CHECKED MY ACCOUNT AND I SAW 2 VIDEOS JUST GOT POSTED ON MY ACCOUNT ABOUT SOME TYPE OF MOD APK OR SMTH ON A PC GAME. AFTER THAT I FREAKED OUT. I WENT TO MY GOOGLE ACCOUNT AND I SAW RECENT ACTIVITY ON A LAPTOP AND THE LOCATION WAS RUSSIA. I ENABLED 2 STEPS AUTHENTIFICATION (ENGLISH ISNT MY FIRST LANGUAGE BTW) BUT I DIDNT CHANGE MY PASSWORD. ALSO I LOCKED OUT THE LAPTOP FROM THE ACCOUNT. I AM ONLY 13 AND I DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT TECH. AND GMAIL DIDNT SHOW ME A GMAIL TELLING ME SOMEONE FROM ANOTHER LOCATION JUST LOGGED IN. WHAT SHOULD I DO PLEASE HELP

Hey man thanks for sharing your experience otherwise god knows what I would have done. I got my channel back after 3-4 days!
Biggest issue right now is if you give access to servers like vidiq or donate alert that can modify your channel. Many big UA-cam channels was hacked if they where using it. Unfortunately you are not safe if you 2step auth/sms protection. I advise to remove all 3rd party app access as well.

So if you had the titan key when this had happened and it was plugged in would they still have been able to hack you from your browser? Just curious how it works. Do you just plug it in while your working and then unplug it when you leave the computer?
Yeah When Im on the computer its plugged in and when I leave I remove the key. You Only need it if you have to sign back in. I wish it was setup so that if it wasnt plugged in your email would instantly log you out but unfortunately its not that crazy secure.
@@LeeZavitz even worse, these things (password managers, keys, etc) can give people a FALSE sense of security, and they're not thinking this whole thing through... if someone takes over your computer, they still have full access to all the logged in tabs, etc. At the very least, log out or lock your computer when you walk away, even with all the other hoopla stuff... better yet, power off or put to sleep.
Shit happens, that’s why I have everything locked down. But I worked in IT for security so I’m probably at the extreme and overly cautious

Exact same thing happened to me on Wednesday..it's really scary tbh. Spent a sleepless night speaking to Google support who have now (thankfully) got everything back to normal.

yet this sadly happen too smaller channels like y self i almost got my channel gone and my fortnite account gone . even though i use different emails also for me was not a download file the guy just got into my 2fa and changed my number short time .for your bussense i was told too have another email not gmail my friend told me about that . also i changed my fortnite email and my youtube email is another fresh account also google authenticartor gets hacked too .but yea also do not leave your account auto log in all ways stay logged out
No judgement here, no one is perfect and just consider it a lesson learned. Happy that you were able to get everything back.
I just know that other people take security way more seriously. Even I know all this stuff, I just assumed I was fine. And its convenient to let chrome handle all your logins etc. NEVER AGAIN

This happened to my main channel, Channel Pup 3 days ago. I was so close to 50K subscribers. They bypassed 2 step verification. Fortunately UA-cam have already recovered my Gmail and they terminated the channel as soon as they were made aware of the livestream scam. I think Team YT have really improved. Sadly the virus seems to have improved too because my laptop is bricked. It’s been a crap 2 days.
Oh no that sucks! When you say bricked do you mean you can’t get into the operating system? Thankfully I had not been on that computer since the attack and I instantly formatted that drive. I didnt have anything important on it because I work off external drives. So all I had to do was reinstall OS and apps
Lee Zavitz it shut off very suddenly and will not switch on whatsoever. Tried disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it. The motherboard was making some noises. I have heard that viruses can max out hardware components to do this. It could be coincidence but it would be one heck of a coincidence to be sure.
Imy sport channel with 85K subscribets get hacked yesterday from that ripple company. They live stream and youtube terminate my channel. I am desperate now

First and foremost STOP using as many google services as possible!! 2nd. Have a personal computer for personal stuff and use a separate computer for business. 3rd. Stop using Google chrome and use Brave. Stop using Google authentication and use Authy. Stop using Google search and use Startpage. Stop using Gmail and use Startmail or Tutanota encrypted email. The biggest problem with Google is everything is connected, when they break in they have access to EVERTHING Google!!! AND Everything done on Google services belongs to Google and you have ZERO privacy !!
Yeah thats the probablem with google is that EVERYTHING is connected. Its super annoying. Just to log into email you have to log into everything.

I didn't understand "remove phone number" but then you are using an authenticator on a phone. Could you explain in more detail please?
Use Authy or google authenticator instead of your phone number for 2 factor authentication

My other YT account was hacked and spam videos abt cryptocurrency were uploaded and eventually UA-cam suspended my account, I have reached out to UA-cam team but all to no avail. As I type this comment, the account is still suspended. 2-factor verification failed to alert me. I thought auto fill on edge and brave browsers are safe until i got hacked.
