reflecting the light lower to higher looks very distracting and not natural...looks a lot better higher angled down
Why is "That Nikon Guy" shooting a Canon?
Apologies to anyone offended by the word 'retard' - Tina is a close friend - said in jest.
No apologies needed here. Thanks for the great videos. Ive learned a lot from them !
Hey, between friends, if certain language is accepted and not taken as a insult, a listener has no freakin business making comments as if THEY had been the target. Freakin bleeding hearts.......!!!!!!! Nice video Matt, nice to see Tina again.
No offence taken, thanks for posting. Cheers
No offence until it is useful and helpful like this one.
As long as you say it like they do in The Hangover, you're politically correct. Just pronounce it re-tard'. :-)
This taught me how not to light a subject. It looks horrible bouncing light from below the chin.
great stuff, man. I like the spontaneousness of your teachings. very cool.
Matt that was helpful as always. I want to study portrait photography and that was a great tip there. I love your videos. Thank you
Great video's Matt. This is the third time I've returned to your page for new topics.
My first outdoor shoot coming up and this is exactly what I needed, thank you good sir!
I'm loving these bloopers :)
Hey Matt what I've thought about doing in this case us framing up the shot with the camera on a tripod and then use a remote or IR trigger to trigger fire the camera while I hold the reflector. Obviously if your moving around a lot then this wouldn't work but if you are using a fixed composition and frame once you frame up your shot then it could work.
I didn't know about that holder, super useful!
Wow, Matt, that was an awesome demonstration, quick and effective. Thanks so much! Subscriber from Florida.
Thank you SO MUCH for making this! Was waiting for you to make one of these!!!
Great video!! I want to use the larger one for full body shots. Will that one work? Also, how close does the larger reflector have to be from the person to give enough light? Thanks!
Thanks for the video, Matt. Can't believe how quickly you made it! Great help as always :)
Thanks for the video. There is also oval shape of this reflectors. Do you know which one is more useful, oval or circle? Is there any advantage of using any of them?
Very helpful and comedic! Thanks
I love you matt, the bloopers were so funny !
Hi just recently subscribed as your videos are great, I ust have a question about using the diffuser..........would you change your white balance from sunny to shade ?
Dear Matt,
Again, great example of how to use a reflector when doing portraits outdoor. I'll be doing some photo shoots at the beach (Scheveningen The Netherlands) this summer.
I always love to watch your inspiring videos!
Greetings, Vincent Pothuizen
Well done Matt, been looking for something like this for a while.
Great tutorial. Thanks
you are more entertaining than words can describe! and the information!
3:16 -3:25 - awesome idea! That answers my problem. Thanks 👍
That haudouken was epic ^_^ that clip is real nice. I use the hobo alternative, a clamp and a nut on a light stand.
I'm watching your videos more and more often... the hadouken sealed the deal.
yep
Great video, thank you. Lovely to see Christian Slater again too. :-)
Thanks!
Matt. .. I never tried it but with a big enough reflector would you be able to bend the reflector so the light wraps around the subject instead of holding two reflectors?
Where can I buy the camera strap? I like your. The photos popped in the video are color corrected?
How much aperture do we set for Portrait with flash on during bring sunlight ???!! What cheap Lens could I use for the same with Canon 5 D mark III body?
Thank You!!!

Nikon guy with that CANON!!
Matt, what's the name of the little claw gizmo?
funny . ;)
forgot to mention what you do when you shoot with two reflectors. Do you hold it or use a lightstand?
Wow. We would have never thought of attaching the damn thing to a stand. Do these genious ideas come to you often?
You could also do the reverse, right? Instead of adding even more light, you could block some of the harsh light using a diffuser. Not quite the same effect, but if you're simply after more-or-less even lighting, it might do the job.
Amazon are selling this attachment for £11.85 each
looks a nice piece of kit & better than the Kadie Clamp i use now
Brilliant. I had bought a cheap 2nd hand backdrop off ebay. Wonder why the cross bar doesn't grip. Turns out someone's put two of these on either end. Haha at least I know how to use it now!
what is the brand of the triangular reflector???
The lighting was awful
Nice
can anyone tell me where to get the one with the handle (i have a 5-in-1 but it does't have a handle & I don't want to spend to set up the lightstands)?
Do you even shoot professionally?
C00l video bro
thank you, i watched all your videos. im actually the model, but i really enjoy learning a lot about photography. it was easy to follow!
Great
Great info Matt. Lastolite also has something to hold their tri grips on a stand.
ps. fire the camera man. lol
Holy bloody steady cam! :O
You might mention 'if you're shooting outdoors and plan on using a reflector, WAIT FOR A CALM DAY!'
I love the interaction you have with this model.
I always do that when I'm shooting video!
Where can i buy this little piece of magic for my reflector?
Thanks so much know i know
"Haduken!!!"
Another great video mat, ignore the haters, your doing well
Explaning but not showing results. Very odd video.
hi can u tell me what that attachment arm is called
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KMOH26E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s04?ie=UTF8&psc=1 this piece? I have bought a bunch of these, they are great.
You NEVER bounce light from below...
LMAO, seriously why are some people so negative, he is joking. Piss off and go and watch something more formal. For the rest of us who like Matt's style keep it : )
I think all her sides are good! 👍
I thought exactly the same thing! XD
That Canon Guy...
hey matt i just saw new video of froknowphoto and he is starting with canon too.....whats this all about? i mean i know its a battle for subs but....nah nvm xD
awwhh, i miss baby Tina! hahaa~
I played 20 years ago
Mat plays Street Fighter LOL Mat you on Xbox Live or PSN or Steam?
which lens is that?
to me it looks like the 50mm 1.2
One thing I never understood, if natural light comes from top to bottom, why should I bounce light from the bottom up?
To fill in shadows created from top down light, it works well to have the reflected light come from below, push back up into the shadows
Very cool, I really didn't know
It must be love, love, love.
I really don't know why everybody keeps using that old "shutter" sound with the motor pulling the film to the next frame... It's more theatrical, but so, so old.
So many people, so little sense of humor... pitiful.
Thanks for another great video, Matt!
wow, i really don't like how he spoke to the model.
Pretty sure the model would not have worked with him so often if she didn't like being spoken to in that way...
she's his close friend
*Wow, I really don't like how stupid you are to not realize they are close friends.*
is that an 85 1.2?
Enrique Florendo I think so
Add a giottos small ball head to the reflector...the Cheetah reflector even comes with the balhead !
use a flash to fill
2:45 to skip the blabbering
Thank you!
She's gorgeous. You can tell you're just palling around but 'toots' was a bit much. What is this a '70s Encino porn shoot? Still, some valuable info here. This was one of the first things I had to figure out when I got my first reflector.
Good LORD! You people make me cringe! Have we gotten so PC that we can't even call a friend "Toots?" I had a girl (yes, GIRL, get over it PC people), call me 'Hun' (not like Attila, but like honey), at the check out line the other day. The lady that was with my was appalled. I looked at her like she had two heads. Why in the world would someone be upset that someone else called them "Hun"? I just don't get it.
LMAO Tina @ 0:50 shes such a bad girl.
Whats with that nikon guy using a canon?
Great concepts but geez talk to your camera guy or find a new one. I started feeling sick. Good lord.
John Witherspoon right maybe invest a few hundred (if that) in a gimbal?!?
I find it so very ironic that the very people getting upset over one word said in jest between friends having a fun shoot are yet being much more mean in their own comment to someone whom they do not know! What a bunch of pretentious idiots. I like your videos, and just go keep having fun with it. The keyboard ninjas have nothing better to do since they are not out being productive themselves haha
I got an autistic sister so i hate the word retard and how others dont see the damage that word caused throughout peoples lives
Aside from tht very useful video
My apologies.
isn't there something called "scrim jim" for exactly that sort of thing ? it's friggin expensive though.
Fucking awesome. Informative and fun and sexy!!
cool video .. but why dont u just use a flash ?!?!
That would be a different video. Sorta like: "get an assistant"
Hey it's That Canon Guy. Nikon must be P*%(ed . :) traitor. Another great tip..thanks Matt.
up...
loving the usual vomit comments, will finish writing my book on you-tube commentators as soon as I get a new box of crayons
Sensitivity +9000
Nice video Matt... don't worry about those that pretend to be outraged - they seem to be everywhere. Toughen up people... and stop being so sensitive.
Am i tanned? I dont know cant see past the make up. hehe
Wind....
only for forever alone photographers.lol
You complain about the use of words while using offensive abusive language in your comment. Nice touch.
I don't like having the reflector below. looks like a horror shot 🧛
No Matt, we don't want the reflector under the model. Certainly not a silver one
I DIED!!! xD
...or you can find an elephant standing nearby to tape the reflector to, using gorilla tape, because elephants don't like Tiger Tape
