At 11:45, It's called "Go". You take turns placing black and white pieces down on the board. The object of the game is to completely surround an opponent's piece with your own. You can't put pieces just anywhere. Only adjacent to one of your own. Horizontal, vertical or diagonal. When you surround your enemy's piece with your own, you pick it up off the board. The game continues until no more moves are left. At the end, the one with the most captured enemy pieces wins. So with Naval/ocean combat in mind, this game is actually PERFECT, for teaching combat strategy against piracy.

I think in an sbs oda said that Kuro is one of the fastest characters in one piece, just that he doesn’t have full control over the speed.

Definitely more. It took years more for a computer program to be able to beat a human champion at go than chess. The computational/combinatorial complexity of go is insane.

Those AI can beat absolute human masters, but when you learn how they think even someone with IQ of a child can beat them. Of course untlil they are polished more, but that costs 10x more (about 400+ mln $).
I think it originated in China. The name is from Japanese igo, but the game itself came from China where it's called wuequi (spelling may be wrong).

Fun fact, based on Kaya's canonical birthday (Aug 24), the Live Action takes place around when it came out in our world (Aug 31) potentially lining up with the end of season 1. However, Luffy is known to have started his journey after his 17th birthday on May 5th. While I was assured for years that he could have been floating for God knows how long while alone in his boat before Alvida, the Live Action adds Luffy saying "It's my first day" to this timeline. That's fine because there's no reason he had to leave on May 5th exactly, he could have waited 3 months until he was ready. But purists fans are free to dislike that...personally I don't think Luffy cares about dates. Besides, Kaya's birthday wasn't even in the original plot.

Loving this adaptation. Koby/garp showing marines side and buggy/arlong interaction is so good. Theres a theory he is a clownfish and roger a fishman too fits perfect

to answer your question: the game Garp and Coby played is named 'GO' this is basically a traditional Japanese game which more or less can played and is known by every japanese Person ^^
I know we were all a bit concerned when we saw Arlong in the trailer, but his acting and writing have more than made up for any shortcomings in his appearance.

What Kuro does is referred to by a different name(Nukiashi/Stealth Foot) but the principle of how it works is very similar to shave.
I hadn't considered that before... but when I think about it, the Pussyfoot Maneuver probably *is* Shave, albeit a crude execution of it.
Kuro just never knew he didn't invent the technique let alone that it already had a name, so he named it himself... badly.
I think Klahadore learned a bit of beginner Shave from his enemies and gave it the name Pussy Foot Manueover just to make it consistent with his Pirate group

The board game is called Go. The aim is to control the most territory and it's infinitely more complex than chess. A super computer beat the best humans at chess in the late 90's. It took until a few years ago for a computer to beat a human pro at Go. Also check out the classic manga/anime Hikaru No Go (the manga is drawn by the same guy who later did Death Note). It repopularised the sport with a younger generation and it's really good even if you don't understand the sport. The appeal of the series is universal if you've ever partaken in any individual sport.

I like to believe that they had no plans for buggy past orange town but then they saw how good his actor was so wrote him in to the plot really quick lmao
The missing characters and parts in this Live Action replaced with bits of Cover Story and SBS .. for example , Jango is not here so they patch it with small reference , Funky Bar on Mirror Ball Island

The live action is what got me to start watching one piece so going back and seeing it after watching the anime is so cool. Like the scenes with all the characters mean so much more. (And I get all jumpy when I see some easter eggs like Foxy)

You should read the manga Hikaru no Go if you're interested in the game they played. It's a famous board game called Go, like chess and Shogi, and the manga follows the ghost of the emperor's tutor teaching a young boy how to win tournaments.

I don't think any connection is ever drawn between Kuro's speed and Shave... that said, it _is_ kinda similar looking. We know it's not a DF power, just some kind of unique martial art that Kuro has, so we can as well suppose that he's learned an inferior form of the same technique. I say "inferior" because Luffy still manages to catch up to him somehow, while he has real trouble with Blueno until he learns Gear 2nd.
Yeah, I even could've sworn that Kuro's quick movements were explained in the show at some point by making multiple steps really fast, long before I'd ever seen Water 7 or Enies Lobby. I guess I must have misremembered that, but back when I first watched One Piece (the infamous 4Kids Dub) I thought that was the explanation that was given.
Would be cool if in this version Kuro just uses Shave and they explain it in Water 7/Ennies Lobby if we get there
Oda acknowledges that the techniques are the same in an SBS section in the manga volumes, but Kuro lacked the training/perception to track his surroundings while doing so.

What Garp and Koby are playing is the game Go, or Baduk in Korea. Its a 4,500 year old game and far more complex than chess. Even the basic amateur's first lesson of Go involves how to hold and place the stones on the board, so it really bothered me that Garp at least didn't. I could understand making Koby not hold them right to highlight his inexperience, but Garp too? I dunno, a nitpick in the end.
Its a great game, I'd suggest anyone look into it. Lots of free online classes and version to play online.

I Love the way kuro starts his special attack in the Anime.. he started slooowly.. would be Nice in the live Action too! No, the game Meruem and Komugi play is made up and it's called gungi. Meruem does play go against the local champion, and then the champion commits suicide when he realises he'll be beaten.
