Mackenyu did had to audition to get the role, but when he was offered to audition he thought it wasn't for Zoro cause the scene asked wasn't in the manga, so the crew had to tell him it was for Zoro so he could sent his audition.
He knows a lot about the original adaptation! 😱 It must be like a dream opportunity for him 😁

His audition was different I guess. He was already shortlisted from possibly a list of sword actors, since he acted in Rurouni Kenshin. Koby was also a proper actor in other shows.
After seeing him as Enishi that was proof enough he could play Zoro!! He’s an amazing actor and swordsman.
I bet he got the role before still!
It makes so much sense why they just gave Mackenyu the option to take it, he was their first choice. He looks the part and he has the sword skills so of course he’d be the one to go for.

Kiki got hugged by Oda, that is probably one of the rarest hug in the world, Oda is very introverted to borderlining into the spectrum, any fan would want that hug from him.

Not since LotR or Firefly have I witnessed a cast feel like a loving family/crew of close friends so much…They truly are “The Straw-hats.”

I didn't like him at first because of how different Shanks was drawn in the manga, but his facial structure, his kinda sleazy sad vibe would fit so well now that I believe guy is Figarland's blood related.
Jacob is so underrated. He is funny and charming.
All I have to say is that the casting people better not screw up Robin. She has to be gorgeous, elegant and be able to have a bit of dark humor. And Chopper has to be the most adorable character ever cause thats who he is😊
The hardest part for Robin is being tall, lol! I doubt they'll find a woman 188cm, taller than Zoro and Sanji, and still look the part. Waiting for Season 2 to surprise me!
And of course, everyone is most nervous about Chopper. The most difficult Straw Hat to pull off.

You gotta love the fearless, innocent naivete of Mugiwara no Luffy. In~aki does a wonderful job of capturing his spirit and bring it to life. Hope that they do as awesome of a job with season 2 as they did with the first.

I'm not the "movie" expert that some people are, but even I was blown away by the casting. I really think they made good decisions and I think the success of the first season owes a lot to good casting choices. I'm really glad to see this do well.

Now that I've watched all the episodes, Jacob is so good that he looks like Usopp even in own clothes.
Mackenyu has mastered all the skills- acting, fighting, swords fighting, singing, dancing, playing instruments, wrestling, horse riding, archery, modeling.........He's also a gentleman...i am a big fan of this man👍👌😍😎

I remember a lot of reactors originally going "Emily Rudd? Is she really an anime fan" then there was that interview where she said her favourite anime was Made in Abyss and everyone instantly knew she weeb AF.

If I could audition for a character in One Piece live-action, for me it would be definitely Zoro. Just like Mackenyu, I grew up with anime. I'm not a Japanese but I'm proud Asian coz I'm from the Philippines. And I have a samurai sword. I keep practicing how to handle it since when I was in middle school. It's not a joke...it's heavy. How much more if you let your mouth handle it?...Its hard. That's why I admired most this character Zoro...and thanks to Mackenyu san, who did well with the character... Subarashii!😎🤘

To those wondering, Mackenyu/Zoro was invited to the audition, but they were not informed that it was for One Piece and Mackenyu was In Budapest filming for a movie,so he declined at first. Then he was invited again. They did not want to disclose what the audition was for at first, then Mackenyu said he might consider if he would know what the audition was for,then the team decided to tell him it's for One Piece. He wanted to know further what character, then he was told it's for Zoro. Mackenyu said he did not hesitate and said, I'll do it! 😅 Oda specifically wanted a Japanese actor to play Zoro.Mackenyu fits the description, plus he speaks English fluently and has martial arts and Katana/sword skills.

If they ever do really make a John Wick 5, I want either Taz or Mackenyu to join since they both have skills to do their own action sequences.

love the cast of One Piece.., but possibly the one thing that could ruin OP, are the younger actors (who can't handel fame.., and end up drinking, dr..gs & party..., hope they can handel it.., more mature actors can usally handel it better)
@@laurenotue4426Most of the cast are 25 and above except I think the actors for Luffy, Koby and the kid actors. Most seem pretty responsible by this point.
We understand your concern in this matter. It is a big gamble to work with such young people, but if the environment is right and they have had a good formation of values, there is often nothing to worry about 🥰🥰
@laurenotue4426 if you’re a nurse, you’re not supposed to be this judgemental. i am a nurse, and at the end of the day you don’t know the circumstances in which those photos or videos or whatever it is you saw were taken. you don’t know these people’s lives or what their values actually are. it might have been a one time thing or someone getting drunk after 1 glass (which is usually my case, and i drink like once every ten years, if that much, but if you take a photo of me at the wrong moment, i look like an alcoholic). stop judging people you don’t know about situations they’re in that you know nothing about.

I know 2 Japanese born and raised individuals that could care less about anime. They're both far from fans. Where you're from doesn't make you a fan.
Sounds like you have an awful beef with Mackenyu. He was born and raised in LA until he was a teen, but moved back to Japan and continued to stay and work there. His parents are both Japanese, his entire family is Japanese. Of course he's Japanese, what's wrong about him saying that? Plus, the Japanese can only have one citizenship, and he chose his Japanese citizenship.
As an outsider I don't think you really have a right to dictate how a person of color identifies and relates to their ancestry
