    If you want more room under the hood, you can remove the vacuum brake booster and use a GMC hydro boost.
    Some minor modifications but works great. I ran hose from P.S. pump to hydro boost, then to the steering gear,
    and back to the pump. A lot of extra space and better stopping power.

      I have seen this done and have thought about it. Maybe some time in the future I will do it but with a mopar hydro booster from a 2nd or 3rd gen cummins

    I like it man. Fine job save for a few things, but very interesting truck. Actually a retired, now, automotive engineer for Daimler Chrysler. Mechanical, electric, and electronic. If you have any questions shoot them my way. Be happy to help. Id love to see a whiny little roots blower on that girl. Of course youd never make traction, but traction smactrion or something. Shes not for racing, just good fun. May have to eliminate the MDS system though, easy enough. Just buy the lifters for a 3500 ram with a 5.7, and definitely change the cam. The rear lobes do flatten over time giving you impossible to diagnose random misfires. Anyway, hit me up if you have any questions. Keep building man.

      Thanks man currently I'm working on swapping a 9-1/4 with trac loc, cal trac and much wider and better tires to help with traction. It's running an 05 ecu an 06 5.7 so the MDS is there but not working I do plan to have the heads ported and get a nice cam in it but as of now I'm working on better brakes and traction. Thank you for reaching out. Not everyday you hear from a Daimler chrysler engineer let alone one that approves your build. So thank you

      I worked for Dodge and Chrysler as a line tech. for
      over 30 years as a chassis tech: Brake systems,
      steering and suspension, differentials. Very little
      engine and transmission electrical or service.
      Having trouble wiring a 5.7 Hemi into a 2002
      Dakota . Engine and transmission not bad.
      Wiring all the rest to the chassis and dash is
      where there appears to not be many schematics.
      Any help would be great. Daddyododge1

    Just watched your whole build series up to this point. I absolutely love it, and it was extremely helpful as I'm planning on doing a similar build in the future. I'm not sure how it would sound as I personally haven't tried them yet, but have you considered trying glass packs instead of cats?

    • @gearhead4266
      @gearhead4266  Рік тому

      I already have glass packs on the truck but the cats helped get that sound that I wanted

    Where about in florida you located? Might have to have you give me some pointers on wiring once I start doing a build. 😅

    Hey man, My name is Armando. I love your channel! I've got a 3.9 v6 03 dakota and I'm planning on doing an engine swap. I've come to my final 2 choices between the 5.9 magnum and 5.7 hemi. People say the cams and lifters go bad on the hemi and I wanted to ask how do you fix that/get past that problem? And will I still be able to haul/tow medium loads with it after the engine swap? Thanks.

    • @gearhead4266
      @gearhead4266  Рік тому

      What's up man and thank you. So I was going to do a 5.9 swap but went with the hemi instead because it's much newer tech and a growing aftermarket the 5.9 is old and dead. As far as cam and lifter issues that mostly effects MDS hemi's which are 06+ hemi's and most of the horror stories you hear of are from the eagle which is 09+ 5.7s I'm running a 06 with mds and a 05 ecu so mds is not functional but all the mechanical bits are there my engine also has 200k+ miles with 0 issues I will say I wish I got a 05 engine but oh well I do also run 5w30 and not that shitty 5w20. You can replace the lifters if you are really worried but if you do that you may as well do a cam swap.

    • @gearhead4266
      @gearhead4266  Рік тому

      As far as towing you are limited to the transmission the 42re sucks and will have to be swapped with the 5.9 you'll need the 46re and for the 5.7 the 545rfe. The 545fre can be picked up for cheap I have a 07 in my shop for a spare I got it for 175 out the door and BTW you want a 06+ 545rfe they are built a little bit stronger than previous years be sides that the dakota was blessed with a 1500 drivetrian and if you have a 9.25 axle then that as well. The only thing you have to worry about is your frame and brakes. I have in the past with that 3.9 pull 8k it was stressful but I made it work I now have a 98 12valve dually it's much better at towing.

      @@gearhead4266 I appreciate all that info man! I think you've persuaded me to go for the hemi. I also have another question. I really would like to pair a manual trans with the 5.7. Holley says a tkx tremec (ford) or a tr-6060 would fit. Is that correct? And if so what's the better/stronger manual trans. for the 5.7? Love my 3.9 auto but once I upgrade, would prefer a manual haha

    • @gearhead4266
      @gearhead4266  Рік тому +1

      @Armando Akoni if you want cheap and don't mind a 5 speed the nv4500 is tough and the gas version the one that wasn't behind a cummins has the same bellhousing as the hemi you can also use a nv3500 which was a dakota transmission but I'm not sure what it can hold up to I know there are a few people who have done t56 swaps into dakotas and most of them love em. Holley will always say go for the over built anything that cost a fortune it isn't needed

    • @gearhead4266
      @gearhead4266  Рік тому

      @Armando Akoni oh and the srt10 ram and viper used the t56 so they are out there with the right bellhousing already on it
