  • The L Word: Generation Q Season 3 Episode 8 | Finley's evil mom shows up--AND I DO MEAN EVIL 👿. Sophie decides to drag her whole family's Thanksgiving to Dana's for Turkey with the lesbians + $18 cocktails (woo hoo!). Also Carrie gives us quite a scare but is it all enough to distract us from noticing Alice is gone?

    Man every time Carrie comes onto the screen it makes me happy. I like the flow between Carrie and Fin, I enjoy their relationship . When Carrie was having heart attack I was so upset that they would do this to both characters (in Australia and on Stan they don’t play the preview), so I was all upset. It wasn’t till I watched on of Ash’s video breakdown of the preview that I saw in the first 5 seconds Carries fine. How weird is the writing on this show.
    So more character assassination of Tess, to explain Shane moving on I guess (again).
    I would really love Tarsha to come back, mainly cause she’s gorgeous. Hehe
    As always great video, cannot wait to see your reaction to the last few episodes 😊❤

    “No…wire…hangers!!” 😂😂💀💀 oh man, the only funny part about this episode was Sophie’s abuela smashing the potatoes 😂 I don’t understand how Finn’s mom found her in the first place, and with her being homophobic…why did she come to a LESBIAN BAR only to insult everyone around her?? The whole time i was expecting the big reveal to be that Finn’s mom is coming out as queer or something. I think a better, more logical plot would have been if Finn and her mom got some 1 on 1 time to talk privately to share the news. I would have liked to see them connect, rather than fight. Finn’s dad coming to visit also could have been better, since they have an actual relationship, right? I relate to Finn just because of her heavily Christian upbringing and I want to see some vulnerable, connection driven storylines involving her family. If not, then I’d like to see Finn in therapy or something and having better boundaries and healing around her family issues. It’s almost ré traumatizing get to see someone like Finn’s mom act like that in my lesbian tv show, which I’d like to be a safe haven from all that religious bs that some of us have gone through.
    Thank you again Amanda for the reviews. The show is terrible but I get excited every week for you to read them to filth ❤️

    • @AmandaCostner
      @AmandaCostner  Рік тому +1

      I'm wondering if Mrs Finley didn't know it was a lesbian bar? You have lots of good points. We got some dramatics from the fight, but first of all, as you pointed out, (I grew up uber religious too) it was somewhat traumatizing experiencing her homophobia, I would have loved to have seen Carrie give it to her even more viciously, maybe send that turkey flying in her face instead of just her lap lol. But secondly, yes, it could have been nice exploring Fin's background more.

    • @lesliephillips3980
      @lesliephillips3980 Рік тому

      Well it’s like they teased us for a hot second with the dialog between Fin & her mom (like her mom was coming out) then it was like “ get me some salad”
      WTF?
      I too grew up dealing with this. I finally found freedom when I went to college. I told my softball teammates how my mom use to lecture me, saying It’s just not natural!” They teased me mercilessly 😂

    And at least Dani wins out by miraculously having every person she shares a scene with fall miraculously in love with her!

  • @sandhya315
    @sandhya315 Рік тому +4

    The most realest part of this episode was the story arc of trying to get Misty to a bathroom before she 💩 her drawls. Riveting tbh.
    *ALSO: I like that Carrie's relationship with Fin is showing more grace for this kid tbh. I feel the "Finley is selfish and makes everything about herself" is kind of off and bs. She's living with trauma and addiction. I feel like this shows the important point that that's Sophie's perspective on Fin. It's like at the bowling alley when Carrie doesn't just leave her.

    • @AmandaCostner
      @AmandaCostner  Рік тому +2

      Yah after seeing who Fin's mom is, that really explains a lot about how she's def in need of a support system around her. She obviously hasn't had that in a very long time. Although now that Carrie just went down she's prob feeling unstable again...

    • @mariettedorobis6967
      @mariettedorobis6967 Рік тому +3

      Yeah I’ve never gotten that Finley is selfish and makes everyone about herself - I feel like if anything she’s always putting herself down for the entertainment of others, and is generally always trying to do the right thing and please others, even if it backfires.

    • @sandhya315
      @sandhya315 Рік тому

      @@AmandaCostner ALSO: aren't the Gen q kids supposed to be like 25-30? Like not only has she not recieved this kind of unconditional love, it's been MAYBE 10yrs since she was kicked out for being gay?
      Again, I like that Carrie's perspective is there now, not villainizing Sophie (she has her own sh*t she needs to work through and is also young)

    • @lesliephillips3980
      @lesliephillips3980 Рік тому +1

      I’ve never had a problem with Jac Toboni, the actor that plays Fin. It’s just they haven’t given her anything interesting or different to explore for so long. Her lines are all 95% “I’m sorry.” However, I thought she was brilliant in this episode. Just shows the difference when a competent actor has something to work with.
      One of my closest friends was kicked out by her parents when she was 17. She’s never had addiction problems, but for years she would not let anyone get close to her emotionally. I think she was angry at the world for quite a long time. It wasn’t until after she and her wife had kids that she began to soften a bit, but it has literally taken decades for her to heal.

    • @sandhya315
      @sandhya315 Рік тому

      @@lesliephillips3980 absolutely. Both to how Fin's story is written and to the part about healing. I have friends and family who were thrown out for the same reason and are still healing in their 50s. And tbh some folks didn't make it; they didn't survive.
      Like when I was at Covenant House (a youth shelter here in the states) most of the kids there were queer. At Jobcore, most of the kids were queer. Cause they just kind of had nowhere else to go. And those are kind of good circumstances tbh. I could (and have) gone on a whole rant about gay kids and homelessness etc etc. Idk it seems like that's kind of unsaid. Like she's done exceptionally well. Contrast her with how Shane's backstory is written in the og series. Just saying...
      One of the things I've realized over the years is that it's really difficult for folks who have had that solid foundation or who haven't been rejected by family to understand it. Not all the time, but ALOT of folks even within our community, kind of don't get that part. Like it's one of the reasons I don't think it's correct to say Sophie is selfish (or even Maribel). I think it's just incomprehensible to them. And the writers got that right.
